They had the car one day and diagnosed the problems and I can pick it up early the next morning. It is worth it to do business with a trusted mechanic. Low price is not always the best answer. Our daughter is an out of state student at ISU and needed an oil change last week so she went to a quick-change commercial franchise in the area which proceeded to tell her after the oil change that her brakes were in such bad shape she shouldn't be driving and they all needed replacing. I read the excellent reviews of Pro Tire and called to see if we could get a second opinion and they squeezed her in to make an assessment. The owner told my daughter that she had a good 10k miles left on the brakes and that none of them needed replacing. They will be her "go-to" mechanic for servicing her vehicle while she is in Normal. For coming up on 10 years I have taken multiple of my vehicles to Pro Tire & Auto, I have never once even had the smallest of problems, because they truly know what it is to show appreciation to their customers. I have a brand new car, which I purchased the Extended Service Package Plan for and 7 times they have missed Large Issues, or told me I was wrong where I would take it to these professionals who could find each issue within 30mins. NEVER go here! They padded the bill by doing $400 of extra things that we did not approve! We took our van in to get a leak fixed and they also changed plugs/wires, tune-up, "battery maintenance", etc!! I paid because I thought for some reason my hubby must have approved the extras. But when hubby got home and I asked him, we found out we had been taken. Been trying to get our money back but no response from them. Guess it might be time to get the BBB or an attorney involved. Great all around auto shop that you can get expected results from without the stealership rates. They're competitive on tires, service and give honest advice. I'm fairly mechanically savvy, so it's uncommon for someone to upsell me on crap like some places might do. In my dealings with Pro Tire, they're upfront on what needs done and estimates reflect accurately what work needs to be done. I'm sure there might be a surprise or two for someone when in complex engine/transmission issues - but so far I've had none and seen none while waiting at the counter and listening in on conversations. I've had my Jeep Wrangler, GMC truck and Honda van all serviced there with good results They're a shop of "car guys" with the latest equipment who work on your car, not sales people who just work from a menu on a computer screen. Only downside is that even oil changes typically require an appointment - they're a "schedule your auto service" type shop, not a a drive thru quick lube shop. If you're looking for comprehensive auto work, I suggest bypassing the quick lube shops :) read more

This place earns your Trust. It's hard to say that about a car repair shop, and I went here twice before I felt I could write this review. This place is honest, they have integrity, they are professional, and kind. But above all, they literally EARN your trust. Here's how they earned mine.. I moved here last summer and was afraid of where to take my car when my headlights started giving out. Went to a different shop first and they simply replaced the headlamps but could not understand why it was fading and going out. Finally, when both my headlights stopped working with new bulbs, I decided to try Pro Tire & Auto Repair (because of the reviews on this site!). I was amazed when they called me and said it was FREE and RESOLVED. I didn't get it. The gentleman explained they would not be charging me because nothing was wrong -- it was just a loose connection he said. After they plugged it back in all the way, the lights immediately came on and continued to work consistently. I was amazed they did not charge me a penny and wondered if this was normal (the honesty and not trying to deceive you for more $ part). This was a while back and I chose not to review them given my "limited" experience with their service and the easy fix (again, I was tempted to solely because they proved they were honest). Then more recently, this week, my car started to overheat and I was stressed over it. I was very concerned that this would be a high cost affair to repair. I immediately worried about the "trust" issue at car repair shops and was afraid I would be charged a ton of money for work I would not understand. And because I thought overheating was a "major" repair need, I assumed a "tire shop" could not help me. However because they were the only shop I knew I could TRUST, I called and asked if they did this type of repair work. They said of course, let us check it out. Hmm I thought, why not let them try first...I am so glad I did! Again -- my total cost for repair was a surprise to me - well under $200 while I was planning for WAY MORE than that! They simply replaced the actual part, a thermostat, replaced fluids, and charged me a fair price for parts and labor. And the problem was fixed. I actually drove away expecting it to overheat because I doubted the repair at that cost. I am so relieved right now. Honestly. I am just amazed and impressed with this place. They are good people, and I feel very comfortable giving them the 5 stars they EARNED. read more

I recently made an appointment to have routine maintenance done on my vehicle; oil change and tire rotation. Coming from out of town, I drove directly from work to my appointment at 4:30pm. Upon my arrival, none of the front office lights were on, and the door was locked. I proceeded to call the business to let them know I was there. As the phone was ringing, I watched two employees stare at me through the window and completely ignore me. I returned to my vehicle and continued calling in an attempt to see if someone would actually pick up. As I'm doing so, a vehicle hauling a couple atv's pulled up outside of the bay doors. The gentleman who stared at me prior quickly came out to speak to what I assume were friends. They proceeded to unload one of the atv's as I exited my car to approach the employee and let him know I have an appointment for an oil change and tire rotation. His response was we are actually closed, the boss isn't here right now. He had some personal things come up. In response, I said "So you're not keeping previously made appoinments that are on the books?" I got a no, sorry. If this was the case, why weren't the people who had made appoinments contacted and informed they needed to reschedule? Absolutely Ludacris customer service. Im still processing. read more

I have always cringed at the thought of car trouble for fear of being taken advantage of. I first went to Pro Tire because I had heard nothing but good things about it from friends and I'm glad that I began going to them. They seem to be the ideal car maintenance shop; they never try to up sell or assume that you will want additional work done that you didn't come in for. I have to be brutally honest. Is have used ProTire a few times and they have been very professional in the work that they do and the prices are excellent. I bought tires, had a brake job and other stuff done here. But, the one time that I went in to get only an oil change, they opened up the date book and told me it would be 2 weeks before they could get me in. That pissed me off. I thought, ok if I was going to to a tune up and an oil change they probably would have gotten me right in. They do good work but this one incident pissed me off so I have not gone back since. If you won't help me with the little things, why would I use you for the higher ticket items. Also, the hours are not customer friendly. No evening hours and no weekend hours. read more

I had built up trust with this shop after our prior mechanic retired. After a few repairs (I drive an older car), I began noticing sloppiness like small items left inside my car (like a fuse or socket that did not belong to my car). Then I began having a new problem arise every time I had a repair from them. I have had a brake sound ever since they replaced my brakes; I don't think it's right. And with my latest problems, I am having doubts on their honesty. I had a groaning sound when turning the wheel left, even when sitting still. They had replaced the struts months ago, and I thought maybe they were not properly lubricated. I took it in and their diagnosis was that it needed new CV joints. They said one of the boots was torn and spewing grease. Google CV joints - every article says you will hear a popping or clicking from bad CV joints. Not a groaning noise, and not when you're sitting still. I took it to another shop and they said it was not CV joints at all. And, the boots on the struts were fine. This was when I learned it needed new strut mounts. That was fixed and the noise went away. At the age of the car, the strut mounts should have been replaced when the car was taken apart for the new struts. My most recent problem is with the air conditioning. They replaced the compressor 2 years ago. Last year I had to go get the coolant recharged. It didn't seem to me that you should have to do that when it's only a year old. I just tried the air for the first time this year, and it didn't work. Didn't get cold at all. I took it in to my new shop, and there was metal in my system. Whatever shot the last compressor has now shot my whole system. To correctly repair it is costing $2300. Ouch! They should have properly diagnosed it a couple years ago, rather than putting in a new compressor. I've now paid twice for my last 2 problems, so I won't be going back to ProTire for my future needs. read more

These guys are great - very professional and in my two experiences with them, very fair. On my repair job they quoted me a price that included a part that they said they might not need - and then they didn't need it so I wasn't charged! Crazy, right? I just mean they are honest and don't overcharge on stuff that's not needed. They also do used car inspections very reasonably - well worth the cost to get things checked out. Do not go to this garage, especially if you are a woman. I would give this place negative stars if that was an option. They seem polite and kind at first, but it's all an act to make you trust them enough to accept the bullshit lies about what's wrong with your car. I brought my car to get a diagnosis on a rough idle. The manager stood there with a concerned look on his face as I described the intermittent idle problem and assured me they'd do their best to fix it for me. Two hours later the manager calls back and tells me that I need to replace the upper AND lower intake gaskets along with the spark plug wires for a total of $1300. I was suspicious of this since I had already discussed the possible problems with my father (who has been working on cars in his spare time since he was 16 years old). And, that price is after the so-called student discount on parts. When I voiced my disapproval of this price, the manager then tried to sell me a line of credit to pay for the costs. Then I was almost sure it was a scam, so I took my car to a nearby dealer's service department. Not surprisingly, they diagnosed a completely different problem within a few minutes (the air intake sensor needed replacing) for a total of $250 for parts and labor. That's a difference of $1050! There's no way that an experienced mechanic would accidentally misdiagnose the car that badly considering all he needed to do attach a code reader to the car's computer to get the code. They misdiagnosed it on purpose to try to scam me because I'm a young female and they assumed I didn't know what to do. read more

Steve Wilson is the best owner of a small business you can get! While traveling from Texas to Normal my check engine light came on. I scheduled a repair at the local Subaru dealership and was scheduled for service at 1:30 PM on Thursday, April 12th,2019. This dealership cancelled 1 hour before the appointment as they were too busy and didn't have time for my car's repair. Needless to say I was panicky. I called Pro Tire and they told me to bring the car to them. Thank God! They diagnosed my car's problem and did not charge me for the service. We left for Texas on Saturday April 13th and made it back home with no problem. Steve and his team showed amazing customer service. I took my car in to have the tires rotated, oil changed and aligned. I got a call back from Pro Tire a short while later saying that the ball joints were bad as well as several other things. I appreciate the fact that they are upfront and honest with the quotes and what needs to be BEFORE doing the work. They did not charge me to look at the vehicle or for the advice. To all ISU students, this is where you want to go with any car issues. My daughter is a Nursing student there and when her engine light activated, we were very concerned. She must use her car quite a bit to get to the hospital and home for the next few weekends in a row. Pro Tire had high remarks and so I had my daughter go here rather than the closer Goodyear that had less than great remarks. I called Steve prior to my daughter driving and he set my mind at ease right away...the man must have daughters. Fast forward to the end game, it simply turned out to be mis-inflated tires that caused an exhaust stitch to trigger the engine light. He inflated the tires and sent her home without a charge. Well done and certainly the only place I'll have her go from here on out. Further, I assure you my daughter will share their information with any students in need.
