Shorpo (lamb, potato and pepper soup)
    Richard U.

Simple and hearty food! Uzbek Cuisine is becoming one of my favorites! Quality ingredients cooked low and slow. Everything here tastes like it was made in someone's kitchen. I went with the shorva shorpa which is a lamb potato and pepper soup. Clean tasting broth and generous chunks of lamb. So good on a cold day! Also tried the Kazan Kebab, stewed lamb with potatoes and veg (also delicious) which I could not finish and brought half of it home. The side of garlicky pickle vinegar does wonders to add a nice contrast to all that lamb goodness!

Interesting Uzbek restaurant. In a residential area and with just 5 tables. Place was packed when I arrived at 530. Sadly were out of lamb kabob but got lamb on rice and lamb noodles. Both were the same dish just different starch. Flavors were mild but tasty. Noodles were excellent. Skip the bread next time

First time trying Uzbek cuisine and man I love how they're loud and proud of their heritage in there. You feel like you're walking into a different country when you enter and I love a spot like that. Parking isn't too bad, I found a lot of street parking on a Tuesday around noon. The inside can seat maybe 20 with a few tables? There is a paper menu book but some items I think are only on the TVs above the counter too so make sure to check both. I wanted to order the beefstek which was a combo plate with a beef patty and fried egg, pasta, mashed potatoes, some kind of couscous-like grains, sliced carrots, with a savory sauce on top. They didn't have it but I got the goulash instead which was the same dish but with goulash meat cubes. I also got the beef dumplings and ginger black tea. Oh man...the tea might have been the highlight even though all the food was great too. Really reminded me of Chinese-Muslim-Russian fusion cultures like Uyghur with a lot of the experience and how they make tea like no ones business. Perfectly balanced and lots of it, I can't believe it wasn't even on the menu and I got it on a whim when the cashier told me they had it. The fun part is too, all the drinks come in cups! I found it way easier to drink like that anyway, but make sure not to fill your bowl too full of hot tea or it'll be hard to hold. Luckily I've had my experience with piping hot gaiwans. The cuisine was very slavic in nature, the beef dumplings had a rich but simple beef filling, fresh dill on the top, and a sour creamy sauce on the side to add. These tasted unbelievably fresh, juicy, and were huge to boot. This was kind of the theme with everything in general as the goulash was great too, a huge assortment of fresh home-style food that'll fill you up and keep you happy. Comfort food of a kind I've never had before but can connect to the warm nostalgia of it somehow. Will say the goulash meat was a tad tough but not enough to detract from the enjoyment of everything much and the sauce/mashed taters helped offset it. More than anything this is such a unique experience for the area I can't recommend it enough (especially if you want some halal food)!

I had stopped in twice before back in March 2021 when it was Fitchi House. Fitchi House has transitioned into Caravan Restaurant in Seattle's Wallingford neighborhood, proximate to I-5. The Homie and I had just checked out happy hour at a nearby pub and decided to check out Caravan Restaurant's Central Asian unique menu items (10/3/25). Central Asian cuisine is from Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan. We chose to dine onsite, there's limited seating, but noted that takeout was a very popular option. Walking in - the aromatic scents from the kitchen was enticing. The Homie ordered Oromo-Honim that was garnished with cucumber and tomato slices. The flavor was further elevated with added garlic vinegar condiment found at our table. This was a hearty serving of steamed meat roll or Kyrgyzstan dumplings. He also enjoyed a refreshing beverage, Salaam Cola. I had an order of Pelmeni - Chuchvara which was served with a side of sour cream. Amazing flavorful soup, especially dill and carroway, with generous tender pelmeni. This is a traditional Uzbek soup. I look forward to exploring the menu further. Definitely recommended!

Let's get one thing straight, Caravan isn't the flashiest spot in Seattle. It's not competing with the city's best places in terms of ambience or food. But this restaurant holds a gem-like status for one simple reason: It's the only Central Asian restaurant in Seattle. A exclusive culinary genre you will fall in love. And trust me, they're not just filling a gap. They're doing it perfectly. Whether you're already a Central Asian food lover or just someone who thrives on culinary adventures, Caravan should be on your list. Rarely do I walk into a restaurant and fall in love with every single dish. This was one of those rare occasions. What I Ordered & Loved: Samsa -- Think of this as the Central Asian cousin of the samosa, but bigger, flakier, and meatier. House-made crispy pastry stuffed with minced beef and onions, baked till golden brown. It's hands down the best Samsa I've had in the U.S. Rating: 5/5 Uzbek Dumplings (Manti) -- It's practically a crime to leave a Central Asian restaurant without trying manti -- and Caravan serves some of the best I've had. These steamed dumplings are made just right: thin, delicate dough wrapped around finely chopped seasoned meat. Juicy, tender, and bursting with flavor. One bite and--boom--flavor explosion. Rating: 4.5/5 Uzbek Plov -- The crown jewel of Uzbek cuisine. A one-pot rice dish made with slow-cooked lamb, sweet carrots, and onions, served with a boiled egg. Aromatic, comforting, and incredibly flavorful. Loved it. Rating: 4.25/5 Obi Non (Uzbek Bread) -- If you've seen travel vlogs from Uzbekistan, you've definitely seen this iconic bread. I never thought i will find it in seattle! Made fresh daily, it has a golden crust, soft chewy center, and a tang from natural fermentation. Topped with sesame or nigella seeds. Perfect with soup or yogurt, or just by itself. Suzma (Yogurt Dip) -- Traditional strained yogurt that's cool, creamy, lightly salted, and gently herbed. I got addicted -- I can't describe how good it is. It pairs perfectly with warm Uzbek bread or grilled meats. A must-order side. 5/5 Kazan Kebab -- This isn't your typical kebab. Juicy, bone-in lamb cuts pan-seared and then slow-cooked with potatoes and onions in a cast-iron kazan. The potatoes soak up all the flavor. A dream dish for lamb lovers. 4.75/5 Mastava (Hearty Rice & Beef Soup) -- A warm hug in a bowl. Fragrant lamb broth with rice, lamb chunks, potatoes, carrots, and herbs. Comfort food, Central Asian-style. 4/5 Carrot Salad (Morkovcha) -- A deceptively simple dish. Shredded carrots tossed in olive oil, vinegar, and dill, light, crunchy, refreshing. This one has a backstory involving Korean roots, but let's save that for another day. 4/5 Laghman -- Central Asian and Uyghur Classic Noodle Dish. Chewy, hand-pulled noodles stir-fried with veggies and thinly sliced beef. Balanced, bold, and hearty. Rating 4.25/5 A Little Backstory: This spot has a legacy. It's taken a few forms in the last four years -- once called Fitchi House, then run by a Turkmen owner who served Turkmen and Italian dishes, followed by a Kyrgyz woman who made it feel like dining in a Central Asian home. Now, they told me it's in the hands of a new owner from Chicago, who is already running a central Asian restaurant there-- and he brought his professional chef all the way from there. The result? The food has reached a whole new level. It's a humble space with just 15 seats, casual and unpretentious. But every bite tells a story. If you try it based on this post, thank me later. * They don't serve any chicken. Lamb and Beef is zabiha Halal.

This was supposed to seared lamb on screws.

Uzbek plov was missing dolma pieces shown on pictures, meat was super dry. Seared kebab ended up being stewed lamb shank. Very disappointing, I was looking forward to find authentic Uzbek food, since I was born in Azerbaijan and we have similar type of ethnic food. This was a huge disappointment!

Caravan is a cozy little spot with only three tables, giving it the feel of eating in someone's home kitchen. Food is ordered at the kitchen window. The food matches the vibe: wholesome, simple, and comforting. The Goulash was the star, rich and hearty enough that my Mongolian partner said it tasted just like her childhood. The Stir Fry Boso Lagman had great earthy flavor from the veggies, but barely any lamb (just three slices), which was disappointing. Still, for authentic home cooking in a tiny, intimate setting, Caravan is worth a visit.

Go here before it's on every "best of Seattle" list. There might still be a short line or a wait, but it'll be better than when everyone finds out about this gem. The food is nothing short of spectacular. Deep, layered, distinct flavors in every dish. Everything is made from scratch. We had to wait on the samsa and lagman because they had run out at 7:30 PM and were in the process of getting new batches ready. We also had the oromo-hanim, plov, and achik gusht. All of it was fantastic and worth the wait. It's small, probably ideal for takeout only, but if you're willing to cram into one of the few tables they do have, have your meal there. The warmth provided by Hatam Beig (I might be butchering the Cyrillic spelling) is an incredible host and will make you feel welcome and at home in the cozy environs.

We've visited Caravan twice and had great experiences. The food is tasty, portions are big, reasonably priced and the service is always fast. There is parking in the neighborhood. We tried manty, appreciated that they chop meat for the filling, instead of using minced meat. Thank you for bringing your national cuisine to Seattle, we loved trying new dishes.

We went for the beef tartare, Chinese scallion pancake, smoked tofu, kimchi trio, spicy rice cake, Chinese broccoli, "that" short rib steak, Kalbi burger, and the kombu cured mackerel. We started with a dozen of the shucked oysters, which were perfectly prepared and not overly briny. From there we tried the Bò Lá Lốt and is instantly my new go-to dish whenever I come back. I'd never had it before and now I'm already craving it again. For mains, we ordered the Lemongrass Clay Pot Chicken and the Drunken Chicken. The Lemongrass Chicken had incredible flavor, especially the broth, which was so good it's worth taking home if you don't finish it. The only downside was navigating all the bones. The Drunken Chicken ended up being my favorite main dish. It reminded me of sweet-and-sour chicken, but without the overwhelming sweetness that usually takes over the dish. A quick heads up: definitely make a reservation if you can because this place gets BUSY. We lucked out and snagged the last four seats at the bar. Even with the crowd, the service was friendly, attentive, and the food came out surprisingly fast. I ordered the catfish claypot, which came highly recommended, and it truly delivered. The flavor was rich, savory, and comforting with a beautiful presentation. My one note: order a small side of jasmine rice. The dish does not come with it, and while the claypot stands strong on its own, the sauce deserves something to soak it up. You will want every last bite. The location is charming, tucked into a quaint neighborhood across from a cozy coffee shop and bookstore. The restaurant itself is spacious with a well stocked bar. One side feels ideal for families and larger groups, while the other side leans more date night or casual drinks. It strikes a nice balance. Pricing runs on the higher side, especially since entrees do not include rice or sides and portions are not particularly large. It is something to keep in mind when ordering. Service was decent and attentive, though I would have appreciated stronger menu knowledge. Simple questions like whether a dish is gluten free or whether it includes rice or vegetables should be easy to answer. A bit more confidence and familiarity would elevate the experience. I also would have appreciated seeing Vietnamese representation at the front of house, given the cuisine. Would I return? Yes. The food is good and the space is inviting. I am just not in a huge rush, as the overall experience did not fully match the quality of the dish itself.

The menu and experience differ between lunch and dinner, and this is my lunch review. Simply put, lunch is much more casual and affordable than dinner (You order lunch scanning the QR code at the table). If you're on a budget, you can eat lunch here for less than $20. I went here for lunch twice during my business trip last month and here's what I ordered: - Seafood Tofu Soup - $17.50 - A seafood soondoobu (순두부) with a generous helping of soft tofu, shrimp, mussels and clam, served with rice. Delicious, refreshing and not spicy-I bet they could make it spicy if you asked. I enjoyed the texture from the cabbage bits. - Seolleongtang (설렁탕) - $15.50 - Oxtail bone broth served with potato starch noodles and brisket, comes with salt and green onion already added(typically doesn't at other Korean restaurants). High-quality ingredients and flavor, a great comfort food with a generous serving of brisket. - Shaved ice dessert (빙수) - $9.00 - A great combination of cinnamon, ginger cream and fried rice puffs. Delicious and different than other Korean shaved ice desserts I've had that typically have red bean and overly sweet ingredients. If you're on the fence about coming here, maybe try out lunch first. The squash ones seemed almost dessert-y, because baked squash is not far off baked pumpkin, which the typical American (like me) thinks of as dessert pie in the autumn. The others were all unmistakably savory entrée pies. The great thing about these is how light, flaky, and un-greasy the dough is on every one.
