CareWell Urgent Care - My home for the past hour and 25 minutes - Urgent Care Near Me - Somerville, Massachusetts

I called to see if i could wait in my car since i have a fever and feel like shit under the sun. The women on the phone was extremely rude. She said they'd have some one come take names in a bit but that people calling in about the wait wasn't helping. I asked for an estimated time and she just said when they can. The reason why people call is because we are sick and sitting in the hot sun not feeling the greatest. No one would be calling if we knew what was going on or if we had an estimated time. The guy behind me said he went the day before but the clinic closed at 3pm instead of 8pm like the door says. There were about 20 people in front of me and the only reason the line moved was because people left. Honestly they should fire the lady that answers the phone and put some one more patient. People are sick and we are looking for help, not some asshole. She could have literally just handed out a sheet of paper for the people to add their name and number. Just left Carewell in Somerville. Waited for an hour and a half and they literally forgot about us in a room. Legitimately, entered no one in the waiting room for an easy prick test for Covid for nothing. After attempting to talk to the front desk he responded "oh you guys are still waiting?" Improperly turned away after waiting in line for almost an hour. Went to CareWell this morning with strep throat symptoms. A gentleman came out once we were next in line to go into the facility - unfortunately I didn't get his name but his title was "rad technician" - he said that they were only doing asymptomatic COVID tests and that we would have to come back after 2pm. I told him there was nothing on the website to indicate they were not seeing urgent care patients and he walked away and mumbled something about "not being in charge of the website." When we got back to the car we called the CareWell corporate line and they confirmed they *are* seeing urgent care patients from 8 to 8 and there is no restriction that would have prevented us from being seen. They also called the facility to verify and told us we could go right in. However, we were concerned that going back to the line would draw the ire of the "rad tech" (who had turned more people away while we were on the phone with corporate) and decided it would be better for us to go to another UC facility. read more

Not a good scene when the receptionist gives you a three hour window--for a simple two-minute CDL test!!--then tells you that you MUST wait inside in a crowded waiting room DURING THE COVID CRISIS (!) and then smugly says that if I opt to stand outside right next to the front door that she can't promise she or any other employee will be able to notify me that my time has come to be tested. WTF?!! Meanwhile, on their sign-in form they ask if you would prefer a TEXT MESSAGE to let you know that you are next up. Another instance of an individual--in this case, the receptionist--making up arbitrary rules (you cannot leave the waiting room, we have to keep your license, etc.) so that they don't have to get up off their lazy butt to actually deliver kind and simple and standard customer service--at a health CARE facility!!! read more

I came here at the recommendation of my PCP for a rapid COVID test as the PCR based tests take several days to get results, and that's not ideal for those of us who are currently working. Before I went, it took me 3 attempts to even talk to a person on the phone to find out wait times because each center doesn't have their own phone number; there is only a general company number. When I finally got in touch with a person, I was informed the wait was 2-3 hours. When I arrived, there was a line of about 30 people, all masked up and socially distanced (thanks to everyone there for following rules). After 20 minutes, the line moved up by 2 or 3 people. 10 minutes after, a nurse came out to talk to patients to see what they were coming in for. I was informed that I had to come back at 3 pm for testing as I may have had symptoms. I returned early to avoid a long line again, to be greeted by another patient who said there was a sign on the door saying they were not taking new patients. I went inside and told them my situation, at which point they told me I could get tested at 3, but I was not allowed to wait in the waiting room. Awesome, but why do they hang up a sign that says they're not accepting more patients for the day? After lining up shortly before 3, it took me about 25 minutes to be brought inside and to a private waiting room, where I sat for another 40 minutes. The woman who brought me in told me I would be tested for strep throat, and if that was negative, then I would receive a Covid test. I wasn't happy with that because I was only there for Covid testing, but okay whatever. The nurse on call called me on my phone and when she learned I wasn't currently experiencing symptoms, I was informed I was going to be charged. Okay fine by me, and I guess they did say on the phone when I called in the morning that it would be up to them to decide if I was considered symptomatic. The test was performed quickly and I got my results online within 15 minutes. (No they didn't end up testing me for strep) I understand how difficult it is right now for healthcare professionals, but there is just really no management at all of this facility. They had only 3 staff there, two of whom were working the reception desk. There is no good way to try to contact this place via phone and honestly, their preventative measures should be better. The front desk staff should have a plexiglass shield installed and they should be wearing gloves. I am not sure how frequently they clean individual rooms and how often the nurse on call sanitizes herself between patients. It's really unclear if they have designated positive patient rooms. Also, the signage up front about no new patients is confusing and misleading when there's another sign saying 3-6 pm is for urgent care patients. Overall, I was able to get tested but I wasted a whole day driving back and forth and waiting for a test that took less than a minute to administer. This facility is severely understaffed and needs to do a better job communicating with patients about their capacity and take better preventative measures. read more

This lady who was at the desk is on her cellphone talking to someone and she held up her finger when I tried to say hi then walked into the back. I haven't even checked in yet. The phone has been ringing this entire time and they're ignoring that too. Five people in the waiting room just to give you an accurate idea of the volume and they just told someone it would be a 3 hour wait and they suggested them to come back tomorrow or go to another location. read more

I was so impressed with my experience receiving a Covid test at CareWell. On Friday, I called to schedule a test and was able to be seen on Sunday at 3:00. A few hours prior to my appointment, CareWell contacted me by telephone to complete the registration process, reducing the amount of time I needed to spend in the facility. When I arrived, I was grateful to see that CareWell had free parking available. At exactly 3:00 on the dot, I was admitted for my appointment and promptly brought back to an exam room. The attending PA, Jessica Johnston, was so kind and professional. This must be the absolute most stressful time to be a healthcare worker, and I was amazed by her sunny disposition. In the end, I was in and out the door within 3 minutes, and received my results less than an hour later via the CareWell patient portal. Obviously, no one relishes having a Covid test, but my experience here made the whole process relatively painless. read more

At 12:46 pm my husband and I made a 1:50 appointment at Urgent Care. We arrived 5 minutes early and the woman at the front desk wasn't listening to my husband when he told her that he had previously been there and he had made an online appointment. After 20 minutes she asked him to register, I then asked how long the wait was for someone who made an appointment. She denied that anything came in, but luckily he saved his text response. Just like any other apathetic employee she just looked at him said she didn't know how long it would take. And, I heard her tell another patient that she needed his credit card, but didn't know how much she was going to charge when he asked her. We've been here for over an hour and still haven't seen anyone. I've been here in the past and the service at best has always been mediocre. read more

Do not go here. I had the worst experience and ended up having to go to the emergency room anyways because they couldn't help me so it was a complete waste of time. The staff was rude and unprofessional. One woman was maskless eating a slim Jim and gossiping as I was getting checked in. The other woman was extremely rude to me when I was trying to figure out my insurance information. She treated me like I was bothering her and that all she cared about was how they would get paid. Look I get it. Medicine is a for profit industry in this country unfortunately, but you can at least try to be caring as you tell people your policies. Oh boy where do I start? My review is for the Inman square site. I was having some symptoms and while I am fully vaccinated I decided to be overzealous and go get tested. I made an appointment online. Also, btw, you can make an appointment online, but not cancel or edit it. You have to call and hope to find a human who will cancel it for you and then you can start over online. But I digress. The place was chaotic. I had completed all the forms online, so technically not much needed to be done in terms of check in. Yet this gentleman kept my insurance cards for what felt like an eternity. Post-its with people's emails, ids etc were just left there on the shelf, not sure how confidentiality-friendly that is. A lady was literally unplugging and plugging back in a desktop computer. Nobody seemed to know what they were doing. A TV with a sappy show about long lost twins was on. Everything was just terrible. After about 45 minutes of wait, a nurse comes out and screams/announces that they only have one provider, so the wait is *at least* 1 hour. A couple of us ask whether appointments mean anything, or if this applies to both appointments and walk ins. The question falls into the void. Now it's about one hour after my appointment and I ask whether I should just go home. Then the unfriendly nurse decides I can go into a room. The room has another loud TV with another terrible TV show. A sign says you CANNOT TURN OFF the TV. Why? Is this a new form of torture? A scientific experiment? You are allowed, says the sign, to change the channel or adjust the volume. Problem is, the remote does not work. No mute, no volume, no channel. You are stuck, unless you decide to be a rebel and push the off button. 10 more minutes pass by in which I am just alone in the room with the TV from hell. I snoop outside just to see if they have forgotten about me and a lady behind a desk immediately reprimands me. I go back inside. Another 10 minutes pass, and finally a nurse comes in. They do a COVID rapid test. Now I would love to just go home. I can't, have to wait for the results. 25 minutes later another nurse/doctor/NP enters and tells me well, my test is positive. She takes another swab for the confirmatory PCR and explains all the isolation procedures etc. She is very nice and understanding of my surprise and confusion. That woman is the reason why this review has 2 stars instead of 1. I go home and sadly lock myself in a room. Purchase boxes of Lysol, arrange for husband to take care of baby, enroll family members for help, do a lot of Uber Eats and exit said room only for bathroom visits, making sure I disinfect every surface I touch. I wonder about the PCR but nobody calls me. I wait patiently, remembering the signs in the wait room saying that a PCR with them might take 2 to 8 (EIGHT?) days to come back. The next day, I call the general Carewell line to inquire about results. A rude lady tells me to go on the patient portal. I make an account. Patient portal is absolutely bare and empty. I keep refreshing. It takes 2 days for the PCR to come back. PCR is negative. No provider gives me a call, sends me a message or anything. I'm on my own. I try to message Carewell to ask what I should do at this point. I get a cryptic message from a NP saying "you should get a PCR", to which I respond "Isn't that what I just got??". No response. Try to call them, and after the multiple "press number 2 to speak with representative", I just get an empty line where nobody picks up. Attempted 3 times in the past 6 or so hours, then gave up and just called my PCP. read more

Had to travel out of state needed a covid test so we didn't have to quarantine, desperately sought out a quick test location. Thought we were ok when we got an appt, but nope. Charged us $160 bc my husband didn't have symptoms, although the insurance was also charged therefore they are due to refund us the money, another hassle. Why couldn't they bill the insurance??? I told them I spoke the insurance and they would cover his test... but they wanted the money up front. Anyways, I don't think they are ready to treat ppl safely. There is no pixie glass btw the receptionist and the patients, no hepa filters in the rooms, ( perhaps not a requirement, but would feel safer) those who have symptoms are not separated from those who don't. No Covid room vs non covid rooms. I would think twice before getting any health care needs at this location. read more

Zero star. I had a terrible experience most especially with the horrible rude receptionist name Candy, she was the worst ever and very bad asset of the company. I came in and I was about to say my purpose of visit but she stopped me and never let me speak and said, are you in Line? I have not said anything else, the rude tone of her voice had determined how not she should be in that job, she hates her job I guess as she has no customer service skills. I went in for a sore throat and wanted to also have to have my STD testing done while I was there because it's been a while. The nurse practitioner was completely ignorant of the process for gay men. I explained it to her-- all the places that needed to be swabbed and tested and all that -- and she insisted that it could all be done with a urine sample. That is simply not the case. Our health professionals are just not trained to deal with LGBT patients like they should be. It's a sad state of affairs. read more

I wish I could leave this place zero stars, because it doesn't deserve even one! Okay I get it's covid & things are a little different, but I came here to get some pre screening testing done for work. They don't having any clear and concise signs anywhere telling you where to go. Everyone was just hanging around the front door then finally someone comes out & says where the line. So I got in line, took maybe 30 mins to get checked in and told to go wait in my car- almost 2 hrs later I get called in. Great! I go in, get my stuff done then leave. I was told by the front desk that when I came back to get my TB test read, I wouldn't have to wait so long to let the front desk know when I came that I just needed the test read, which literally takes 1 min to do. Okay, great. So I return to get my test read, I get in line thinking and there were about 4 people in front of me so I didn't mind waiting.... well fast forward to almost an hr later and absolutely NO movement of the line or any staff member coming out to let people know what was happening, I called the front desk & explained why I was there and asked what was going on. The person I spoke with on the phone was so rude and basically said oh well you'll have to wait you can't skip the line and the reason the wait was so long is because people keep calling "slowing down registration." First all, people wouldn't call if they let people standing outside in the cold in a line that's not going anywhere and only getting longer by the minute! Second, the first time I went there all they did was take my ID & have me scan some QR code and go wait in my car and fill out the registration online so I really still don't understand what was happening. So many people just ended up leaving who were standing in line waiting. I would never go back to this place again. read more

I went to this place a few times and my experience was in general good. Especially they have a radiation room on site so it's convenient if you twisted your ankle and just want to know you don't have a broken bone. Make sure to make an appointment online first. I don't know for sure but possibly that shortens waiting time. Most doctors and nurses saw me at this place were pretty professional and respectful. BUT also be aware you could run into inexperienced and arrogant providers. Yesterday I went in because of sore throat and my provider thought the obviously infected white areas on my tonsils were tonsil stones (sorry guys I know it's gross). Sister, did you ever finished your internship? It was such a low level mistake I would have laughed if I hadn't been having a high fever. Still amusing when I think about it today. read more

Horrible experience with blasting tv in the exam room. The medical care was ok, not great, but would have been fine. The reason for my bad review is the mandatory tv in the exam rooms. My small daughter had to be exposed to a violent tv show, that was on, because I couldn't figure out fast enough how to operate their tv system. I asked for help, but no immediate help was provided, while my daughters had to sit 3 feet from the tv. When the nurse finally came in yelled at me that I was rude asking for help with the tv and I was not supposed to turn it off as she pointed to a piece of paper on the wall. There is a sign with warning that the tv could not be muted or turned off. This is just ridiculous, that you have to talk to the nurse and provider while the tv is blasting in the background. Whoever thought about this stupid idea should be reprehended for this. This a totally atrocious assault on the patients' freedom. What is it 1984? After an hour sitting there I got a headache and it was so distracting talking to the provider. I could barely hear them through the mask over the tv. read more

I was nervous because of all the negative reviews but as along as you have a car to wait in the 1.5hrs isnt bad for a rapid test that's close by. I have no symptoms but planning on seeing my elderly relatives for a bit, so this was quick and convenient. I'm sure many have seen in the medal the unethical care that Carewell in Somerville has provided innocent patients who got the first COVID Vaccine with a scheduled date for a second. Now Carewell is not honoring the 2nd vaccine and sending patients in to a panic looking for second doses. Besides failing their patients they are failing their poor staff who are taking such abuse from reasonable upset patients. This administration needs to take responsibility instead of letting front desk staff take it all. I suggest writing a letter that staff can give irate patients with a customer service phone number so the people responsible answer. BTW, I'm from Cambridge not SF. read more

I waited in a room for an hour and half and still counting after they called me to come in. During this waiting time, an assistant was in briefly for 3 minutes. She sounded confused and asked me a bunch of question and ended with "what do you want me to do today?". I mean, I don't know what to say, I am really sick, I was hoping to see the doctor and get treated?. I should have read all this reviews before coming in. Went there to get prescreen for my job, made three appointments so they can tell me that it's still a two to three hour wait, so today was my final day going there, I came in for my 1030 appointment to have KATY (practice manager) informs me that I have scan a QR code in which I refused because I did all my paperwork online, she said that I had to without looking in the computer and then tells me to have a seat and that there is ten people in front of me, we stopped receiving patients, there is one person drawing labs and that they are short staff with her unusual demeanor, more of an attitude. So as I was asking her a question she walks out of the reception area, here I'm thinking, I'm a nurse manager and this is the attitude from another manger I get, you wonder why there's no staffing, maybe the "practice manager" needs to change her attitude or get rid of her so they can hire someone more positive. It's start hire up. So count on me never returning. There are plenty of urgent cares around, the one in Medford was extremely nice. I feel sorry for the elderly patients or people with no phone that are not able to Scan QR codes and she gives them an attitude. read more

NP Glaviano was very good. Went there with a hand injury and turns out I fractured my hand. Urgent care always has some wait time but this was better than I had experienced before. Got right in, had an x Ray and confirmed I fractured my hand which I never would have thought. After pain meds and splinting he referred me to a hand specialist, which I thought was overkill but turns out the right move. I am getting a CT scan because the fracture is at the joint, and may need surgery. They pushed so hard for me to go to the specialist I did it. Turns out I might need surgery for a minor fracture. But if I want full function back in my hand it's worth it. Long story short, NP glavioano was professional and thorough. They wouldn't let me leave until I promised them I would make the specialist appointment. Shows they really care. I dont know if they have rotating doctors but he is the best. read more

When a place sucks so much, you actually feel obligated to write a review. Awful, clueless staff, incorrect information, misleading information. Had a call ahead and showed up being told I couldn't be seen. Then when I told them I called ahead with the exact address listed, they actually suggested that it was my own fault at first, before telling me that the calling center wasn't updated until recently. So thanks. For not updating the calling center and wasting my commute out here for no reason to be told to come back tomorrow. And what will happen then? Will it magically be down then too? I went in there for a drug test because it was for a new job and i ended up waiting there for like over an 1 hour ... they make you believe it's walk in and you will get to do what you need and get out But it not what it seems because you wait longer and the staff seem to hate they job it's staff shortage every where people need to pay they employees more. read more

Are you a fan of waiting 40 minutes in an empty waiting room to be called in for an exam? Yes? Then, this is the place. And, get comfortable. Because from there, if your experience was like mine, your visit will take over 2 1/2 hours, not much shorter than just going to the ER. I mean, heck, Cambridge Hospital is boasting 5 minute wait times in their ER. But, nooooo, why bother when you can sit around for 2 1/2 at CareWell??! And, the doctor? Do you like being belittled? Yes? Well, you're in luck because your doctor will display plenty of paternalistic arrogance. He knows everything, no matter what. He won't let you forget that. Wuddaguy. Visit bonuses include surly front desk staff and creepy guys popping in and out for pee tests. The receptionist could not give an email address. I had to repeat six times the email. The first few times she did not give the correct address ndazila and the sixth time it was ndavila. Then she added uc on to the email. Very confusing and frustrating that a receptionist could not give out a correct email address. I will go else where. read more

horrible experience. I will disregard waiting 2 hours even with an appointment. I can not disregard the fact that they charged me a $30 copay, followed by an additional $220 claiming there was no insurance. Then they filed a claim and got paid by insurance. They have not credited me anything. They do not return any phone calls or emails. I filed a complaint with my credit card, but they also can not reach carewell to verify. This is insurance fraud and I will report them if this goes beyond one month. read more

After seeing the reviews on Yelp I had concerns, but my I knew my sinus infection/ear infection was looming and I would need antibiotics. I made an appointment online, walked to the clinic, and waited. The wait was a bit longer than I expected, but it was a weekend, and the clinic was probably less staffed than usual. Dr. Mayfield was excellent, and kind. She listened to my concerns, and asked what my PCP usually prescribes, since I do have a handful of allergies. All in all, from walking in the doors of the office to prescription in hand from the Walgreens next door took about an hour and a half. I would recommend CareWell if it's not an emergency, and if you're in a pinch on a weekend! read more

You accept appointments online yet when one shows up for their appointment, they're told that the they cannot be seen because you don't have any staff that day. WHAT ON EARTH!?!? I have gone to this location several times. This last visit was the last straw. After going in and essentially not getting treated, they billed me incorrectly because they accidentally created two accounts with my name in the system due to a technical error. They billed the account with no insurance attached. Fine, I was able to call and correct the error and mistakes happen. Today, I received a lab bill (a month later) and the bill reflects that though they wrote down something, they wrote my insurance number incorrectly so my insurance wasn't billed. My bill came without insurance so I am once again rectifying their error and working to make sure my insurance is actually applied to the bill. I do not understand what's going on, but unless you want the headache of multiple follow up calls I cannot recommend. I'm really disappointed in these avoidable errors and truly an confused how this happened (again!!!) P.s. they also put my birthday in wrong, both times, which added an additional headache. TLDR, the attention to detail is really poor and makes what was supposed to be a prompt process really complicated.
