Nestled between 7-11 and a day night corner store off Desoto Road and Lockwood - 3250 Desoto Road. I came across this place. I decided I wasn't in the area much so made a u-turn to check it out. Hours showed one thing and was informed 12-7 pm, Wednesday through Saturday. I usually get Jamaican food from a spot near the airport but figured why not. I ordered the pulled pork with Cuban rice and ribs with red beans and rice. They both came out aromatic. The Cuban rice had no flavor my spouse said having tried it for the first time. The ribs were about a 6-7 rating, as a lot of bone and I couldn't let my toddler eat them without pulling each piece apart. The red beans were sparse on top of the rice and nothing to get too excited about. The pulled pork was good and the little one enjoyed it. I would give this place another try, if I'm out that way and would get something different. I will say the food truck did look very clean. read more

Hands down my favorite food truck around. The Jamaican jerk chicken is perfectly smoked for a tender bite. the spicy sauce on top adds so much flavor. Add a hearty portion of rice and beans. I bet you can't eat whole thing, and it's only $8! The ribs are also pretty good. Smoky and tender. The dinner portion with 2 sides is equally as filling. There's a plethora of sides to choose from and really you can't go wrong with any of them. Note: Be sure to be patient with lines and leave a tip for the hard workers! I couldn't take any more turkey after Thanksgiving Thursday, so on Friday stopped by A & G Caribbean and picked up jerk chicken, ribs, rice and beans, plantains. I've been there twice now, but each time, I came away with one of the two entrees being overcooked. The first time the Jamaican jerk chicken was perfectly cooked but the ribs were a little overdone. This time the chicken was dry and the pulled pork was good. The portions are decently big, but I was surprised by how stingy they were with their BBQ sauce. Both dinner entrees came naked so no sauce on either meats. The Jamaican jerk did not stand out to me as such, just grilled chicken. The best sides are collard greens (and I'm not a collard greens fan normally) and the plaintains. I think that I'll give this place a pass for a while. The reason I think that their meats are overcooked is because there's only two people working and there's always a line. Only draw back a couple of months ago was getting there to find out they were a little behind and didn't have chicken ready - it was going to be a half hour and that was at noon. Not having any idea what they served, along with no place to dine, and located in the parking lot of a gas station... this is pretty risky for a (adventurous) food snob. He throws a few slices of white bread in the to-go box, walks over and opens up the grill, grabs up an entire leg of an elephantine chicken, pulls out a machete, hacks it into five even slices and tosses it on the bread. Went by the truck and got one jerk chicken dinner and one lunch. Had rice and beans, collard greens, and green beans for sides. Around $17. Man, it was the best jerk chicken (I could use a little more heat but my wife can't). The sides were all done right too. There was so much food! The bag weighed abut 10 pounds! We could only finish the lunch and greens. We had so much chicken leftover. Two nights later I made a big tray of chicken and rice casserole and it was amazing! When you are stopped at the light (on Thursday, Friday or Saturday) at University and Lockwood Ridge, you are overwhelmed with the greatest smell in the world...BBQ smell. Look into the Shell gas station and you will see the orange trailer with a smokey smoker smoking. We have had food from here about 6 times and have tried everything on the menu multiple times. Here is the low down. CHICKEN:....is ridiculous. No lie. This is probably the best chicken I've had. My BBQ sauce of choice is the house. Plus he gives you so much chicken....and 2 sides. Its good enough for two people that are under 150lbs for dinner. It's a single meal for fatty's. You know who you are. Also the Chicken "Sandwich" isn't much of a sandwich. He just adds bread to the mix. It's more like chicken and toast. RIBS: I do not like. I tried them on 2 separate occasions. The 1st time I was there toward the end of business hours. The smoker was cold, so I thought I just got the last batch of the day. The second time I went at prime time, 4:30pm. Same issues. Dry, chewy, and fatty ribs. Just not a good quality rib. I really don't know. I just do not like them at all. PULLED PORK: It's ok. Dry as well. You can soak it in the house BBQ (which is great) and its good to go, but I think it would be a lot better if it wasn't so dry. SIDES: Corn, Red Beans & Rice and Baked Beans are wonderful. The owner/cook is a little stand-off-ish. He doesn't say anything and he looks annoyed at times. I have never had an issue with him overall but he doesn't make me want to talk to him...and I generally talk to everyone. He just isn't a very inviting character. Overall this is still a good stop for the kick ass Chicken Combo. The taste, the amount of food and the price are all pretty damn good. Just moved North of the SRQ airport. He is on the left hand side past Jo To Japanese steakhouse. Very good chicken with just the right spices. The ribs are okay but they have numerous sauces and try their homemade sauce it has a nice kick to it. Baked beans are a bit heavy with sugar use. Overall it is quality Bar B Q. read more

HOUSE SAUCE is out of this world. The chicken is consistently great. The owner is an extremely nice humble man. He speaks very softly and has a heavy accent. He pulls your meat out of the smoker after you order and chops the meat in front of you. The baked beans are REALLY good. They are homemade, not too sweet and contain some shredded pork. This place is the go to place in Sarasota for BBQ ! Forget everywhere else...seriously. Discovered this place just last week when my parents where here from NC. We love BBQ and after 2 years of searching out BBQ places I would rate this number one. The pulled pork is scrumptious it is simply the best and the ribs are HUGE and fall right off the bone full of flavor dont even need sauce really! But if you do choose the sauce the sweet sauce is so tasty and so is the hot but it is pretty over powering. Next time i'll combine the sweet and house sauce [: Also the baked beans taste completely home made with pieces of pulled pork in them. ONLY complaint I have about this place is the owner is not really that friendly. My mom (who's occupation was international travel) hates this food truck mans attitude. But we all agree, his food is good. I always get grilled chicken and two sides. The Bbq tastes good. The Bbq sauce is great tasting, but hey, if you put enough MSG in anything it turns out great. The quality of the chicken is so so, but they grill it up great. Overall its good food at a good price, but the owner guy is a shad too obvious with the intolerant vibe. Its sad. Only two stars. We stopped eating here a few months ago because my wife said no more.
