Oxtail Mac n cheese egg rolls

I placed an order on grub hub around 650pm. My order was accepted and pickup time was 710pm- 720pm. I arrived at 7pm. The restaurant is small inside and only 2 people were waiting on the people dining inside. I stood at the front of the counter for about five minutes before anyone asked me anything. Once the middle age looking lady greeted me with an attitude and asked what was the name on my order. I told her and minutes later she asked again. Long story short, I was asked four times what I ordered and the name. Theere is a small waiting room area to wait for your food. Also, your order is placed on a table and sometimes your name is called out and sometimes it's not. I witness this several times while waiting for my order. I only ordered the oxtail Mac and cheese egg rolls and yea mon wings. The oxtail meat was tender inside the egg roll and had decent flavor. The wing dings were dry and overcooked to me. They were drenched in the sauce and no seasonings were on wing dings.

I had a mother- daughter dinner at Irie Ting with my daughter last week & we really enjoyed our dining experience at the restaurant. The food was mind blowingly delicious. We literally wanted to inhale the food, if that was humanely possible The oxtail/Mac & cheese Eggrolls we ordered were sturdy & flavorful. They could basically be a meal all alone they were so filling. The oxtail & curried goat platters we ordered were generously portioned & full of flavor. The meat was cooked to perfection. It was tender & juicy. Our server was attentive, courteous & extremely helpful & respectful during our time dining. She always approached our table with a warm & generous smile. The decor & ambiance of the restaurant really made you feel like you had stepped into a restaurant in Jamaica. I was so there for all the island vibes! This is definitely a Jamaican gem I recommend trying if you are in the downtown RVA area.

We had catering from Irie Ting for lunch at work today in recognition of Black History Month. I usually work remote, but I drove half an hour to work for this one! The spread was generous, with a full range of items to select from, including beef patties, mac and cheese, plantains, rice and beans, jerk chicken, oxtails, and curried shrimp. My favorites were the beef patties and mac and cheese. The mac had a crisp crust of cheese on top - yum! I also tried oxtail for the first time - pretty good! I don't eat chicken or shrimp personally but heard good things about both from my coworkers. All in all - I was a big fan, and I'm hyped for the plate of leftovers I prepared for dinner tonight!

    Jerk beef sliders

Ordered the beef sliders and it's barely a meat ball!!! Disappointing since it's one of my favorite places in RVA. I get the food prices are up but seriously? A meat ball is not a slider. Do better

After 4 years of delivery only, I finally dined in at Irie Ting. Our server was friendly and hilarious. The food, as always, was delicious. I didn't realize all this time they had Sorrel to drink, it was so yummy. I was disappointed in the bread pudding. It's typically my favorite but today it tasted like it didn't have time to set.

Enjoyed dinner here tonight while on travel for work. The restaurant is quaint with not much seating inside; however, the food and menu choices were absolutely fantastic! I enjoyed the curried chicken dinner and it did not disappoint! I had a Jamaican beef patty as an appetizer and enjoyed the rum cake for dessert. The service was attentive and wonderful! I highly recommend trying it if you like Jamaican food!

We were visiting Richmond for the first time and this was our first dinner in town. We don't have access to Jamaican or Caribbean food where we're from so we were looking forward to this meal. From their website and menu, this seems like a fun, welcoming place. There was ample free street parking nearby when we arrived just before 6pm on Friday evening. The food was decent but the service needs improvement. Our waitress never smiled and had a poor attitude from the get-go. We arrived on-time for our reservation, didn't have any questions about the menu, and always spoke to her with a smile (despite internally feeling off-put by her demeanor) so I'm not sure what the issue was. Normally, I would have some empathy--you never know what someone is going through and the service industry is rough. However, the restaurant was pretty empty (so no cause for being overwhelmed) AND she was clearly laughing with her fellow staff members throughout our dinner (so I don't know why she couldn't show the least bit of hospitality when waiting on us). The restaurant did have lots of food delivery people coming in/out to pick up orders but other staff members were primarily handling those. My husband ordered the jerk chicken and I ordered the escovitch. I didn't see other photos of the escovitch on Yelp. In the photo I posted of my meal, the escovitch is served with rice/peas and boiled cabbage, and behind the fish is a small dish of a brothy sauce and a small dish of the pickles that are typically served on top of escovitch. We enjoyed our meals in regards to taste and portion size so it was even more disappointing that the lack of hospitality/customer service left us feeling unwelcome.

Irie Ting Jamaican Grill has been on my list of places to try for a couple of years now so while my daughter and I were in Richmond over the weekend, we headed over to try them out! Thankfully, there was ample seating when we arrived so we dined in and scanned the QR code on the table to access the menu. With this being Jamaican cuisine, they offered mostly all of the items that you would normally see at a Jamaican restaurant. Our server, Tiara, was very nice and patiently waited as we decided on what we wanted to order. Since everything sounded so good, we decided on the Curry Chicken, Oxtails, a side of Jerk Chicken, Plantains and Macaroni and Cheese. The meals were served with Rice & Peas and Cabbage. The food took about 30 mins to prepare, which Tiara mentioned after we ordered, but that was no problem at all. When it arrived, everything looked amazing! I ordered the small size oxtail portion which came with 6 oxtail pieces and it was more than enough! Everything tasted phenomenal! The Jerk Chicken was spicy but not overpowering. The Oxtails were tender and flavorful and the Curry Chicken had the perfect amount of curry seasoning! The Mac & Cheese was just as great and we learned our server, Tiara, actually made it! We definitely gave her props lol! If I had to give one critique, I would've loved the cabbage to be served on the side versus under the rice but both were very good. Overall, I may have found my favorite Jamaican restaurant and even though Richmond isn't close, I will gladly take the drive again to eat at Irie Ting! I highly recommend checking them out, you will not be disappointed!!!

This is my second time here because my fiance was curious to try it despite the fact that I wasn't impressed the first time. The decor is actually cute, and the food was actually impressive this time, but the customer service left me feeling unsettled. Our waitress was Donna-Kay and she was the sweetest and very helpful, however another waitress, Dan, came over to take our order and she wouldn't smile, gave us nasty looks and I honestly watched her gave my fiancé a look of disgust. At one point, I thought maybe something was on our face or we did something wrong to get the treatment we were receiving. To make matters worse, I think she is either the manager or Team Lead. I would never return or recommend if this is standard customer service patrons will receive. This was quite strange because I watched her go over to the guys next to us and she was quite outgoing and was smiling a lot. Based on the other reviews, this is common. The food was decent, we got the curry goat, the oxtail and the mac and cheese with oxtail egg rolls. The egg rolls were interesting, unique combo, I enjoyed it a lot. The entrees were okay, not good enough to tolerate that kind of treatment. Along with almost all of the drinks I ordered they told me were not available/ sold out... I settled on water.

If you are feeling IRIE Mon, but can't get down to the islands you're in luck. Nestled in downtown Richmond this Jamaican restaurant has a beautiful dining area, great menu options, friendly service and bar. My loyalty and respect to this place was sealed by one of the best TINGS I ever ate!

This is a nice small and local place. The decor is nothing particularly special. The service was honestly pretty slow, and I feel like they were so focused on backed up pick up orders. The food was delicious though. My husband got a combo platter with various meats. The oxtail was mostly bone. I ordered the curry chicken, but my order was mistaken for jerk chicken. Upon telling the waitress that I ordered curry chicken, she questioned me if I really did. This kinda threw me off because I know what I ordered. She kinda nudged me to take the jerk chicken selling it as really good. I decided to go ahead and take the jerk chicken. It was tasty, with a good hint of spice. The rice is seasoned well, like a blast of flavor with each bite. I tried my family members curry chicken dish, it was a good curry flavor. The chicken was a little dry, but the rice matched the curry taste well. The jerk chicken was good, just wasn't what I was craving that day. The ox tail Mac n cheese eggs were pretty tasty when dipped in the accompanying savory sauce. Overall, service kinda felt like 3 star, but I know they were stressed with how busy take out was. The food is what bumps this up to 4 stars because it really is so flavorful.

    Outstanding wings!
    Jeffrey T.

Just happened to be walking by here at dinner time and so glad we decided to give this place a try. Really great food and outstanding wings! Tried all 3 varieties, the fried coating and texture on the fried ginger and pineapple wings was fabulous and the jerk wings had a nice kick. My wife had the jerk chicken which was also really good. Might have been a little too saucy for some, but I enjoyed it, and the spiciness was just right. Highly recommend trying this place if your in the neighborhood!

    Rum punch
    Tee B.

Last weekend...some of the fam and I met for dinner @irietingja and it was a treat! Mimi and I both ordered their Rum Punch (4.5/5..pretty strong and fruity). I opted for the Island Fried (white meat 4.2/5 plain, 4.3/5 with the ginger sauce and 5/5 with their homemade jerk which I highly recommend) with rice/peas (2.9/5 the rice was a little over cooked)and cabbage (3.8/5). Mimi ordered the escovitch and she rated it a 10/5 (meaty and flavorful to include the sauces). Staff was helpful and nice. Cool vibe as Jamaican music played in the background. If your downtown give them a try.

I pulled into the parking lot and this place has a unique setup. All the tables are outside similar to checkers. When I originally arrived, I didn't see much business but while I waited for my food the cars were pouring in left and right. My hopes for the food increased. There is a menu on the outside that is somewhat difficult to read and navigate. A ton of options with some whopping prices. I ended up ordering the 1 Snack and Fries. I wanted something good but also light as I had another place in Richmond I wanted to try. $14.99 seemed good until I saw this bogus, Local meals tax on top of the state sales tax. This caught me off guard. I ended up waiting in my car for about 20 minutes and later heard my name called over the microphone. The gentleman showed me the food, and it was 3 large pieces of fish. The fish was delicious. The fish was Cooked well, and I could taste the flavor. Way more than I expected. Tartar sauce elevated the flavor. The fires were piping hot and good as well. I wish I had some ketchup, but they were still good. I loved that they were salted but if I had high blood pressure I should have stayed away. You can see the salt on the fries. They were good to me. Overall if I were in Richmond again, I'd definitely stop. The food was good. I would definitely try more options. The customer service was good. The cashier and food distributor were on their A game. Outside could use some love and care but it is what it is.

Like too many restaurants in the Scott's Addition area, this is seafood cooked without finesse and then absolutely brutalized with absurd amounts of palate fatiguing, brash, loud flavors. Every item on the menu endeavors to conceal mediocrity in the quality and handling of the ingredients with explosive, overwhelming additives meant to shock you into submission. Things like black garlic and chili oil, raw garlic, sesame seed oil, and punishing heat are inescapable on the menu, which really says to me loud and clear "we do not understand the appeal of seafood, and might have a fundamental misunderstanding about good food in general." I don't exaggerate when I say these dishes would be improved (setting aside things like inability to properly cook octopus) by scaling back the flavors to 5-10% the loudness level they are currently at, to let the ingredients speak, and to make the dining experience less of a punishing marathon with no relief. I have had much subtler and more skillfully balanced dishes at Indian and Thai restaurants, cuisines known for strong flavor profiles. I'm through listening to these Richmond restaurants trying to excuse simply bad food by claiming "that's the nature of the cuisine." In this case, Lillian claims that dishes characterized by these cacophonous competing flavors is "South American." No it isn't - the person conceptualizing the dishes is just a bad chef who doesn't know what he's doing, and at the prices Lillian charges, that's inexcusable. Drowning every dish in flavors that overwhelm the palate is not a way to respect your ingredients or your diner, and only communicates youth and insecurity. Anyone who's eaten widely and knows their ingredients will rightly feel assaulted and insulted by this overpriced, unskilled fare. To anyone who decides to go anyway: Good luck with the digestive distress, and with the taste that will still be left over in your mouth the next morning, no matter how much you brush your teeth.

Sadly when we came in Wednesday night at 9 PM, we were told they were only serving drinks at that time. I emailed the restaurant and was informed that on most nights, they indeed close the kitchen and only serve drinks after 9 PM, but that on weekends they'll keep the kitchen open longer. I'm so glad we came back on our last day of the trip. It was a Thursday night at 7:45 PM and pretty full. Thankfully, there were some seats at the bar which we preferred anyways since you got to watch the oysters get shucked right in front of you. We ordered the bread service, and though it said house cultured butter OR whipped beef tallow, our kind server made sure to ask if we wanted one or both (the answer was both, of course!). We also got 4 Virginia oysters (appreciate not being forced to order in increments of 6 or 12), chargrilled oysters, and "dessert tonight" which ended up being the most perfect chocolate cake (I think it was describe as something else, but my memory fails me) with a white chocolate ganache-like topping and pistachios *swoon*. I tried the wine of the day which was an orange wine that it was a nice not-too-sweet, not too dry wine. I'd recommend it with a pasta or fish. Our server (didn't catch his name but he had a nice brown sweater and a beanie, receipt says Taylor so maybe that's his name?) was so nice! Great vibes all around from the interior to the bathroom to the service. Would definitely come back.

It better be for $40 but I don't always like crab bc it can be overly fishy in a not good way but this entree was very good. We also liked the halibut- nice piece of fish perfectly cooked. The MonkFish had a nice flavor, but the bones in it was a little bit overwhelming, and kinda made eating a lot of work. My husband loved the pichana steak and sauce (menu said gribiche, he thought it was bernaise). The beef fat potatoes were just fine - they would be much better if crisped up a bit. My risotto was to die for. Not as heavy as traditional risotto, with a distinct Asian flair. It came with two large, sweet scallops, a pile of tender mussels, and some lobster pieces throughout. The almond slivers added a nice crunch to the dish. I highly recommend the Yellow Umbrella cocktail - tart and refreshing. The wine selection by the glass is small but well-curated; we enjoyed our Vino Verde and Cab Franc. For dessert we shared the strawberry mascarpone cake.
