    Catering!

We had catering from Irie Ting for lunch at work today in recognition of Black History Month. I usually work remote, but I drove half an hour to work for this one! The spread was generous, with a full range of items to select from, including beef patties, mac and cheese, plantains, rice and beans, jerk chicken, oxtails, and curried shrimp. My favorites were the beef patties and mac and cheese. The mac had a crisp crust of cheese on top - yum! I also tried oxtail for the first time - pretty good! I don't eat chicken or shrimp personally but heard good things about both from my coworkers. All in all - I was a big fan, and I'm hyped for the plate of leftovers I prepared for dinner tonight!

Ordered the beef sliders and it's barely a meat ball!!! Disappointing since it's one of my favorite places in RVA. I get the food prices are up but seriously? A meat ball is not a slider. Do better

After 4 years of delivery only, I finally dined in at Irie Ting. Our server was friendly and hilarious. The food, as always, was delicious. I didn't realize all this time they had Sorrel to drink, it was so yummy. I was disappointed in the bread pudding. It's typically my favorite but today it tasted like it didn't have time to set.

Enjoyed dinner here tonight while on travel for work. The restaurant is quaint with not much seating inside; however, the food and menu choices were absolutely fantastic! I enjoyed the curried chicken dinner and it did not disappoint! I had a Jamaican beef patty as an appetizer and enjoyed the rum cake for dessert. The service was attentive and wonderful! I highly recommend trying it if you like Jamaican food!

We were visiting Richmond for the first time and this was our first dinner in town. We don't have access to Jamaican or Caribbean food where we're from so we were looking forward to this meal. From their website and menu, this seems like a fun, welcoming place. There was ample free street parking nearby when we arrived just before 6pm on Friday evening. The food was decent but the service needs improvement. Our waitress never smiled and had a poor attitude from the get-go. We arrived on-time for our reservation, didn't have any questions about the menu, and always spoke to her with a smile (despite internally feeling off-put by her demeanor) so I'm not sure what the issue was. Normally, I would have some empathy--you never know what someone is going through and the service industry is rough. However, the restaurant was pretty empty (so no cause for being overwhelmed) AND she was clearly laughing with her fellow staff members throughout our dinner (so I don't know why she couldn't show the least bit of hospitality when waiting on us). The restaurant did have lots of food delivery people coming in/out to pick up orders but other staff members were primarily handling those. My husband ordered the jerk chicken and I ordered the escovitch. I didn't see other photos of the escovitch on Yelp. In the photo I posted of my meal, the escovitch is served with rice/peas and boiled cabbage, and behind the fish is a small dish of a brothy sauce and a small dish of the pickles that are typically served on top of escovitch. We enjoyed our meals in regards to taste and portion size so it was even more disappointing that the lack of hospitality/customer service left us feeling unwelcome.

Irie Ting Jamaican Grill has been on my list of places to try for a couple of years now so while my daughter and I were in Richmond over the weekend, we headed over to try them out! Thankfully, there was ample seating when we arrived so we dined in and scanned the QR code on the table to access the menu. With this being Jamaican cuisine, they offered mostly all of the items that you would normally see at a Jamaican restaurant. Our server, Tiara, was very nice and patiently waited as we decided on what we wanted to order. Since everything sounded so good, we decided on the Curry Chicken, Oxtails, a side of Jerk Chicken, Plantains and Macaroni and Cheese. The meals were served with Rice & Peas and Cabbage. The food took about 30 mins to prepare, which Tiara mentioned after we ordered, but that was no problem at all. When it arrived, everything looked amazing! I ordered the small size oxtail portion which came with 6 oxtail pieces and it was more than enough! Everything tasted phenomenal! The Jerk Chicken was spicy but not overpowering. The Oxtails were tender and flavorful and the Curry Chicken had the perfect amount of curry seasoning! The Mac & Cheese was just as great and we learned our server, Tiara, actually made it! We definitely gave her props lol! If I had to give one critique, I would've loved the cabbage to be served on the side versus under the rice but both were very good. Overall, I may have found my favorite Jamaican restaurant and even though Richmond isn't close, I will gladly take the drive again to eat at Irie Ting! I highly recommend checking them out, you will not be disappointed!!!

This is my second time here because my fiance was curious to try it despite the fact that I wasn't impressed the first time. The decor is actually cute, and the food was actually impressive this time, but the customer service left me feeling unsettled. Our waitress was Donna-Kay and she was the sweetest and very helpful, however another waitress, Dan, came over to take our order and she wouldn't smile, gave us nasty looks and I honestly watched her gave my fiancé a look of disgust. At one point, I thought maybe something was on our face or we did something wrong to get the treatment we were receiving. To make matters worse, I think she is either the manager or Team Lead. I would never return or recommend if this is standard customer service patrons will receive. This was quite strange because I watched her go over to the guys next to us and she was quite outgoing and was smiling a lot. Based on the other reviews, this is common. The food was decent, we got the curry goat, the oxtail and the mac and cheese with oxtail egg rolls. The egg rolls were interesting, unique combo, I enjoyed it a lot. The entrees were okay, not good enough to tolerate that kind of treatment. Along with almost all of the drinks I ordered they told me were not available/ sold out... I settled on water.

If you are feeling IRIE Mon, but can't get down to the islands you're in luck. Nestled in downtown Richmond this Jamaican restaurant has a beautiful dining area, great menu options, friendly service and bar. My loyalty and respect to this place was sealed by one of the best TINGS I ever ate!

This is a nice small and local place. The decor is nothing particularly special. The service was honestly pretty slow, and I feel like they were so focused on backed up pick up orders. The food was delicious though. My husband got a combo platter with various meats. The oxtail was mostly bone. I ordered the curry chicken, but my order was mistaken for jerk chicken. Upon telling the waitress that I ordered curry chicken, she questioned me if I really did. This kinda threw me off because I know what I ordered. She kinda nudged me to take the jerk chicken selling it as really good. I decided to go ahead and take the jerk chicken. It was tasty, with a good hint of spice. The rice is seasoned well, like a blast of flavor with each bite. I tried my family members curry chicken dish, it was a good curry flavor. The chicken was a little dry, but the rice matched the curry taste well. The jerk chicken was good, just wasn't what I was craving that day. The ox tail Mac n cheese eggs were pretty tasty when dipped in the accompanying savory sauce. Overall, service kinda felt like 3 star, but I know they were stressed with how busy take out was. The food is what bumps this up to 4 stars because it really is so flavorful.

    Rum punch
    Tee B.

Last weekend...some of the fam and I met for dinner @irietingja and it was a treat! Mimi and I both ordered their Rum Punch (4.5/5..pretty strong and fruity). I opted for the Island Fried (white meat 4.2/5 plain, 4.3/5 with the ginger sauce and 5/5 with their homemade jerk which I highly recommend) with rice/peas (2.9/5 the rice was a little over cooked)and cabbage (3.8/5). Mimi ordered the escovitch and she rated it a 10/5 (meaty and flavorful to include the sauces). Staff was helpful and nice. Cool vibe as Jamaican music played in the background. If your downtown give them a try.

    Oxtail Steam White Rice
    Rita R.

Hands down the best oxtail I've ever had!!! Not even kidding!! Like seriously they better keep that recipe locked up cuzzz the gravy/sauce they use for their oxtails is AMAZING! It's literally fall off the bone oxtails in a savory and sweet sauce, I would buy the sauce alone! There is a great ratio of meat on the oxtails, and very rich. The service was very fast, I ordered take out and was attended to quick and easy, I love the vibe of the restaurant , I would love to come back and sit down to enjoy the food, especially since they have a nice size bar! It's situated in an awesome location, perfect downtown Jamaican spot! I'm taking all of my out of town friends here for sure!

    Outstanding wings!
    Jeffrey T.

Just happened to be walking by here at dinner time and so glad we decided to give this place a try. Really great food and outstanding wings! Tried all 3 varieties, the fried coating and texture on the fried ginger and pineapple wings was fabulous and the jerk wings had a nice kick. My wife had the jerk chicken which was also really good. Might have been a little too saucy for some, but I enjoyed it, and the spiciness was just right. Highly recommend trying this place if your in the neighborhood!

    Pumpkin Soup (Mon, Tue, Thurs)

The atmosphere was great, as there was good reggae music playing! The food was also amazing. We had pumpkin soup and oxtail( they were fall off the bone tender )with Rice and cabbage!!! We were grateful to find some authentic Jamaican food in the area!! It was also fast and didn't take a long time. 10/10 and definitely would recommend!

If you're craving authentic Jamaican cuisine, this is a spot you'll want to keep on your radar. It's a small place but it's very cute. The staff was very friendly as well. From the first bite, everything tasted fresh, flavorful, and true to traditional Jamaican cooking. The oxtails were incredibly tender and packed with rich, savory flavor. The cabbage was perfectly cooked and seasoned just right, and the rice was a standout on its own--you could really taste the coconut milk, which added such a smooth, delicious touch. The curry chicken was another highlight. The meat was so tender it practically fell off the bone, and the flavor was bold without being overwhelming. But the real star of the meal for me was the salmon dish. It completely stole the show. The fish was cooked to perfection--tender, flaky, and full of flavor--and the cream sauce tied everything together beautifully. It was hands down my favorite dish of the night. OH!! I forgot about the coconut cloud cake... OMG!! I should have gotten two or three of them to take home. Even though it's a bit of a drive for me, it's one I'll gladly make again whenever I'm in the mood for amazing Jamaican food. We'll definitely be back sooner rather than later!

When I say the oxtails fall off the bone, I mean that. Flavorful, authentic, and cooked the way it's supposed to be. You can taste the difference. A lot of these other Jamaican restaurants out here are cooking for Americans and think people don't know the real taste. And let's be real--when you have people from other cultures cooking the food, it's hard to call it authentic. I just don't understand how it can be authentic if it's not being cooked by someone from the culture. Now I will say, compared to some other spots, like Karina (paired up with Jamaica House), they did upgrade and got bigger, and I respect that. But even there, you got a lot of Mexicans cooking the food, so it still takes away from the authenticity for me. Overall, I'm giving Jamaica House a solid 3 stars. The food--especially those oxtails--is definitely better than a lot of places out here that deserve zero, one, or no stars at all. If you want real flavor and something close to authentic, this is one of the spots to check out.

I work hard for my money, and because this restaurant is conveniently located, I have been a loyal customer who has supported this establishment regularly. Several months ago, I experienced unprofessional behavior from staff at the drive-thru window. As a customer, I felt it was appropriate to leave an honest review regarding my experience. Since then, when I recently called to place an order, I was informed that I would not be allowed to do so and was refused service altogether. When I respectfully asked the manager for an explanation, my questions went unanswered, and the phone was repeatedly hung up on. I then attempted to speak with the owner, only to be told that no one knew when the owner would be available or how I could reach them. The level of disrespect and lack of professionalism I have experienced is unacceptable. At no point have I been disrespectful; I simply spoke up about my experience and exercised my right to leave an honest review. It appears that this may be the reason I am being denied service. What makes this situation even more disappointing is that businesses should value and respect the customers who consistently support them. I genuinely enjoy the food and have patronized this establishment frequently, which makes being denied service without a valid explanation even more concerning. I believe customers deserve to be treated fairly and with respect. Based on my experience, I can no longer recommend supporting this business. I intend to pursue the matter further and explore the appropriate channels to address these concerns. Customers should spend their hard-earned money where they are appreciated, respected, and valued. The first time I went was last week Wednesday in the afternoon. A very nice young man took my order. When I asked for bake and shark the woman who I assume is the owner came up to the front and told me bake and shark is only available every other Saturday. I asked her if it would be available that coming Saturday and she said no, next week, that coming Saturday would be meat pies. She was nice enough this day. My first visit I ordered doubles, curry chicken and stew beans and buss up shut. The doubles were pretty good, the curry was 2 chicken legs swimming in what was more like a ton of watery broth in which my beans got completely lost. The curry flavors were not very developed. There was no aloo. The roti was the best thing I ordered that day. I did not come that Saturday as instructed but I returned yesterday. Yelp and Google states the business opens at 11:30. I walked up to the door at 12:12 and it was locked. The sign on the door states they open at 12:30 on Saturdays. I sat in my car until 12:40 and went back in. There were already people in line being helped by the same lady from last week. When it was my turn I asked for bake and shark and she told me "next Saturday". WOW. I drove all this way specifically for that. At this point I'm already disappointed so I ask her what she does have. She tells me to "read the board". Then she says she will help someone else and come back to me. When I don't respond she says "HELLO" as if speaking to a child. Thankfully, the lady with the purple hair is nice and professional. When it's my turn to order I order sorrel, pholourie, doubles, curry chicken and spinach and roti. Curry chicken is my favorite so I want to give it another try. With these 2 visits alone I've spent about $70 so far. I get in my car and open the bag with the pholourie to eat on the ride home. They're ice cold greasy and soggy. How? The place just opened and I just walked out! I get home and try the curry chicken. Watery flavorless broth again. No aloo again. This time the chicken is not done. My spinach is drowning in this broth just like the beans because for some reason it's all put into one container with no separation. The doubles are a sloppy mess but edible. Once again the buss up shut is the best part of the whole meal. This was a waste of time, money, and gas. This is not a good representation of Trini food. I don't think I will return here. **UPDATE** I updated my review to one star after this wicked lady replied. This idiotic fool is messaging me over and over about my review! I haven't messaged her back not even one time. She's clearly nuts. Notice she never said anything I wrote was untrue. There's a huge difference between pink chicken (ie: smoked meat) and bloody slimy chicken that's clear in some spots. You are selling food to the public and you think chicken is always pink no matter how long you cook it? WTH?! Sounds like food poisoning and salmonella to me. And please tell me where is the big chicken?? You're serving drumsticks! Secondly, pholourie literally takes 1-2 minutes to fry- why would anyone fry it then let it just sit in a COOLER???? Who's expecting fried dough to be hot for hours?? I expect it to be freshly made when I order it duh! So she's cooking the entire menu all at once and just serving it, cold and raw. Disgusting. The standards and attitude on this woman are both gross. Eat this crap at your own risk.
