Side of white rice and sweet plantains
Elizabeth M.

We come here fairly often for dinner. We got the bread for the table but it was hard, cold, and stale. However, the rest of the food was relatively good. We ordered the ajiaco, the regular vaca frita, and the chicken vaca frita. The vaca fritas came with three sides and we got the same for each: rice, beans, and sweet plantains. It's a great amount of food. The rice and beans were absolutely delicious. The ajiaco and both vaca frita entrees were specials for Monday. The only other issue we had was that the chicken vaca frita felt like it was unseasoned, which was a first for us with this location. The service was quick and friendly. Overall, it was great.

The food is good. I just don't like the rice. But it's good. The service is good. I like everything else. I just don't like the rice that's all that all that I don't like

Arroz con Cerdo Tuesday Special.

We came with a hungry crowd to have dinner. The toasted bread trays with garlic butter were devoured before a photo could be taken of the trays. Baby Palomilla for the children with rice and French Fries respectively. The children ate the steak and they are picky eaters. That was a good sign. Two of us had the special for Tuesday of Arroz con Carme de Puerco, Maduros, Tostones y Ensalada de Aguacate. Another Baby Steak with Salad for an adult. And the other special for Tuesday, apáticas de Cerdo with rice, Garbanzos and Salad. Lemonade Frappée to accompany the dinner. Flan & Pudín de Pan for dessert. Not a morsel was left of anything

Food is always great at this place. Very spacious, plenty of seats. The service is always great, the ladies are always very attentive . We love coming here for breakfast, lunch and dinner hahaha. They make amazing batido de mamey, I am obsessed. The portions they serve are always large, you might want to share or prepare to take some food home.

I was waiting for my lunch forever. It came unsatisfactory. Then I decided to leave.

bad tasting food. Sloppy servers. Enough said. Out of all Cuban places you can visit I wouldn't return here.

Pan con lechon.. Yeah I ate half already.. So what?

OK, so this reveiw is based on various experiences at this restaurant - ive been here numerous times and also ordered delivery. The food is good.. really no complaints - very standard cuban fare and everything is done well. The service in house can vary but its usually decent - never really poor or outstanding. Its on par with a place like Islas Canarias. I wouldnt go out of my way to go there - but its close to the house and priced right. So, if you are in the area, give it a try. Plenty of seating inside so there is NEVER a wait for a table. Also a good thing if you need to stop in for a quick bite.

Happy to find a place like this in my new neighborhood. It's one of those small hole in the wall types who never disappoint no matter what you get. Our favorite dish is the Vaca Frita which comes with rice and beans and Maduros. Always delicious. Always fresh. Chicken steak sandwich is also a favorite. We come for breakfast often. Their Tortilla de Platano is the perfect combination of savory and sweet. Pair that with their passion fruit juice and you will be glad you took my advice. Not only do they make Cuban toast but they also make French bread toast which is light and crispy and buttery. Pair this with Cuban coffee and evaporated milk. You're welcome!!!

Good and reasonable prices. Many specials every day, however, they have several sites and they are not the same.

I was told that when you're in Florida ESPECIALLY Miami you HAVE to get Cuban food. And wow... now…read moreI understand why. As we were driving in, the place already looked beautiful. We came in the evening and immediately, as we walked up, there was music, people laughing, talking, smiling... the energy was incredible. I also loved that there was a bar off to the side while waiting. We ordered a few mojitos and sat outside at the tables and benches, just enjoying the atmosphere. When our name was finally called and we walked inside, I genuinely felt like I was stepping into history. The atmosphere here is unmatched. The music, the aromas, the people. God, I loved it here and I hadn't even tried the food yet. We ordered the braised oxtail (which came with plantains and rice), salmon glazed in guava BBQ sauce, ceviche tropical, assorted empanadas, and a Cuban sandwich. Everything was phenomenal. The sauce paired with the empanadas perfectly. The guava BBQ glaze on the salmon was absolute perfection. It was the perfect combo of sweet, smoky, and flavorful. The ceviche had the perfect acidity and tasted so fresh and refreshing. This is one of the most famous Cuban restaurants in Miami. It completely lives up to the reputation. Highly recommended

DIRT AND MUD IN THE SALAD!!! WATCH OUT…read more We ordered the salad with mango and pecans. They do not wash there lettuce. There was literally dirt/mud at the bottom and I took my first bite and it felt like biting into sand. Upon spitting the food out onto my plate it was black sludge. Literally my tongue and teeth were black. The waiter came by and grabbed the plate when I was in the bathroom. I spent about 10 minutes trying to get that BLACK SLUDGE out of my mouth. When I was spitting out the dirt/mud wife noticed the bus boys laughing at me and there was not a manger in sight. When I asked for a manager he did not even respond. No apology or anything just a look of confusion. Worst experience in a restaurant in my life and I love to eat and have been to many types of restaurant big and small. Cheap and expensive and this one takes the cake. We were so bummed as I see thousands of great reviews. But if there was a zero I would have given zero stars the way they handled the situation. If you eat there in the future make sure to check for DIRT/MUD.

We started with the goat cheese croquettes, which were delicious! The marmalade went well, and the pickles onions and jalapeños cut the richness and were a nice complement. Husband had the Masa de Puerco chino and loved it. Big tender chunks of pork, super flavorful. I had the abuela's ropa vieja, and it was perfect. I don't even usually like plantains, and the Maduros were delicious! Oh! And the Passion lemonade was SO GOOD!! Service was friendly and attentive without being intrusive. Loved everything about the experience, and we're hoping to get back while we're in Miami!

Regardless when we arrived they sat us outside which is exactly what we were hoping for. Our server was nice at first. Explained all the popular dishes got our drinks out very quickly. I think she stole our table from someone else because shortly after someone came and we told them we put our order in and he seemed a little bothered. Unfortunately, our other server disappeared and never checked up on us. We pretty much didn't have any napkins during our entire duration of our meal. At least that part was good. We started off with a couple of mojitos and their Vaca Frita Tostones. You get these homemade maduro tostones topped off with shreeded beef in a moon sauce, pickled onion, and aji Amarillo aioli. A very delicious dish that didn't last long. Shortly after we received our main dish. I really hate when they do that. My wife ordered their Abuelas Ropa Vieja and I ordered their Masa de Puerco Chino. My wife didn't really care for her dish much. We've had plenty of Ropa Vieja before and would have preferred a congri type of rice as opppsed to just plain white rice. My dish was 10/10. Like in the name of "chino" this is an Asian inspired dish with fried rice, maduros, pineapple confit and crispy pork. A very delicious dish. It could have don't without the little salad on top, but at least it ads color to the dish. The crispy pork tasted so amazing and the fried had so much flavor. Mix in some of the maduros and you get a sweet and savory dish. Would definitely be returning to try this dish again.

We ordered the Cuban sandwich and the Cuban burger, and honestly both were dangerously good. The Cuban sandwich was exactly what you hope for -- crispy bread, perfectly pressed, packed with flavor, and the kind of sandwich that makes you pause mid-bite and just nod at the person across from you like "yep... this was the right decision." The Cuban burger was also fantastic -- juicy, flavorful, and big enough that you start questioning whether you should have skipped breakfast. The area around the restaurant was great too. Nice vibe, good energy, and perfect for walking around before or after eating... which you will probably need to do after finishing that burger. The servers were good -- friendly, attentive, and thankfully didn't judge us for attacking the food like we hadn't eaten in three business days. Overall the place has a fun atmosphere, great Cuban comfort food, and the kind of menu that makes you want to come back just to try the things you didn't order the first time. Highly recommend... just be prepared to leave full and slightly considering a nap. 10/10 would happily destroy another Cuban sandwich there again.

We stopped here at this one on Espanola Way for dinner on a Sunday, primarily because we had somewhere else in this area to be afterward, and while most every place on this touristy street was packed with a wait list, this restaurant could seat us right away. Service was good all evening from an outgoing waiter, this place was great for people watching (we were seated at a high top on the sidewalk in front), the food was good and the prices were reasonable, especially considering that Espanola Way is one of the most touristy areas on already touristy Miami Beach. I had the signature roasted chicken ($28) and my husband the Cuban churrasco steak ($42) and both included sides. We also had a glass of wine each and again, wine prices were reasonable. While we don't tend to eat in this general area often as it is so touristy which usually equals lackluster food and service at high prices, Havana 1957 was just fine. I'd happily return here.
