Sergio's in Kendall is declining. The best thing there is la ventanita for a quick coffee. The staff is no longer friendly or service-oriented and the food is okay. Hope this turns around cause this place was a stable for me. Also, 3% credit card fee now...that's just tacky and doesn't sit well. Build it into your prices and offer a cash discount. Wow! Sergio's has stepped it up with the ambiance and the way they deliver. It was quite impressive. Servers were nice. The reason for the three star review was the food and the hostess. The hostess had no sense that their were people waiting at the front to be sat. She was so preoccupied with helping the servers (which was nice) that she neglected the front house (no bueno). My frittata was overcooked and the fries weren't hot enough and lacked in flavor. I was too hungry to wait for it to be made again, so there's that. I've been coming to Sergio's for years, and it has long been a staple for my Cuban food fix. Their croquetas are consistently amazing--perfectly crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside--and the bistec empanizado remains one of my absolute favorites in the area. Unfortunately, the experience has been sliding lately. The service is notoriously slow, most of the employees look like they are dragging their feet just to serve you. Although I usually look past it for the flavors I love, today was a major disappointment. I ordered a chicken sandwich. At first glance the sandwich seemed rather small and left something to be desired. To make matters worse after taking a few bites, I realized the chicken was completely raw in the middle. The manager was very nice and apologetic. He offered a $15 credit but this doesn't really make up for serving raw chicken! It's incredibly disheartening to have a safety issue like this at a place I've supported for so long. Very poor experience. My wife and I ordered through Uber Eats from Sergio's on Kendall Drive and 107 Ave, even though we are less than a mile away. The order took over an hour, one Uber driver canceled due to the delay, and when the food finally arrived, it was completely cold. On top of that, we were charged extra, as a tip percentage was added without our authorization, despite the service being extremely poor. Adding a tip without consent while delivering cold food after such a delay is unacceptable. After reviewing the comments, there is also a very concerning pattern: whenever a negative review appears, several positive reviews suddenly show up shortly after, which strongly suggests review manipulation or purchased reviews. This is misleading to customers and should be investigated by the platform. Very disappointing experience. I do not recommend ordering from this restaurant through delivery services. Stopped in for breakfast today. We were seated quickly. The restaurant was clean and clutter free. The server took our order within a few minutes and brought out the toasts and coffees right away. The rest of the order took roughly 15-20 minutes. The Cuban toasts were all way too toasted, borderline burnt. The steak for the steak and eggs was pretty tough and dry. The fries came out cold as did the pancakes which were cold and very dry. The cafe con leches were also weak, tasted like boiled milk rather than foamy steamed. Huge disappointment all around. I used to love this spot when I lived in Kendall and was excited for lunch today. We started with 5 croquetas for $8...ok, inflation...unfortunately they were cold. They brought new ones and only 2/5 were fresh and they took the crackers. We both had vaca frita. All of the food was cold and the beans tasted canned. The yucca had no flavor at all. The service took a long time. Definitely underwhelmed and disappointed that it wasn't the Sergio's that I so fondly remember. It was super delayed, lack of pick up, their service robots even crashed into my husband and they didn't even apologize for the inconvenience or anything. The Food...1 star. We ordered a Cuban sampler and 2 small chicken soups. The sampler which consisted of fried yuca, plantain chips, pork belly, and a Cuban tamal. The only decent part of it were the yuca and plantain chips. The rest either lacked taste or proper preparation. The soups were tasteless and the squash was service with the skin so very hard. The. The main dishes: Bistec Empanizado (breaded steak) with rice, bean and sweet plantains, roasted pork with rice and plantains, and a bacon avocado burger. The Bistec was ok and the burger was good, but the roasted pork, was season less and hard. The rice was hard as well. When the server was picking up the appetizers we mentioned that we hoped the main dishes were going to be better because the first part of the meal was lacking a lot of flavor...crickets. We don't tend to return our food when it is not of our liking for reasoning of not wanting people to do anything to our food, lol, but we can definitely share the experience with others. If you are looking for a Cuban place to eat in Kendall, I do not recommend you eat at Sergio's. It's overpriced, doesn't offer good food, and the service is really bad. Based on the countless experiences at the numerous locations (Coral Gables, Doral, West Miami and Kendall), I normally rate them a 4. However, based on this experience this past weekend at this location, a 3. The service was terrible and that always takes away from a nice experience. My water was not refilled throughout the whole dining time. The croquetas were terrible, nothing like the croquetas I've had before. The tacos and yuca were tasteless. The breaded chicken breast, same, putting a ton of lime on it kind of helped. Their crema de malanga was sadly subpar too. The vaca frita and tostones saved us all a bit lol One thing I do normally recommend from Sergio's and have ordered it for catering several times, is their arroz imperial. Yum. I stopped by for a quick breakfast and coffee while I was in the area. I love Cuban coffee, and the one here was fresh and piping hot--just how I like it. I really enjoyed it! I ordered the Deluxe Sergio Breakfast, which was served hot and tasted great. I also appreciated that the meal included a Cuban coffee, so I ended up with two cups--but I wasn't complaining; it was delicious! The Cuban toast was also fresh, warm, and tasty--my son ate every piece of it. The only downsides were the service and seating. Our server didn't speak much English and seemed a bit tired, which may have explained her attitude. Additionally, I was seated directly under an air vent, which made my food cool down quickly, and I felt uncomfortably cold. I asked to move before my food and coffee arrived, but unfortunately, I couldn't escape the air conditioning no matter where I sat. Despite these minor issues, I would definitely return. This order was for a birthday dinner. He ordered pork, yuca, plantains and black rice for the group. It all came as a dinner for 8 to 10 people. I don't eat pork so chicken and rice was ordered for me. I did taste the pork and did not like it. Now, even though I don't really eat pork I have had a couple bites that I enjoyed years ago. This pork was dry and nobody else seemed to like it either. The black beans and rice were very bland. I did like the yuca and the plantains were good although I never eat more than one because they are so sweet. I did not eat much of the chicken and rice. The rice was very bland and not flavorful. This was shredded chicken and well, I did not like it. No flavor. I always at least like arroz con Pollo and usually love it. I have never had shredded chicken in arroz con Pollo before. The food was very good, but the dining experience was disappointing due to excessive noise from employees sorting dirty plates and utensils right next to occupied tables. The loud clattering made it difficult to have a conversation or enjoy the meal. Cleaning is important, but it should be done away from diners or more quietly. Cuban/Latin restaurants have never really impressed me a whole lot. Sergio falls into what I would call a Latin Denny's type restaurant. It has the usual offerings but nothing that is outstanding. Prices are about where they should be and the service was just right. The flan was outstanding. Vegetarians will have a limited menu, vegans may want to skip it all together. I feel the restaurant might be better for breakfast than for dinner. Would have liked to see something a touch more interesting but keeping in mind who the target audience is, it just did ok. Plenty of parking at this location since it's in a corner strip mall. Sticking with the classics is probably your best bet here. read more

We did brunch here the other morning. I ordered the breakfast pizza and the Cinnamon and toasted coconut cold brew. My coffee was delicious, as was the pizza. If you need take out in Kendall, don't waste your time here, like I just did for the last hour. Apparently they have two different places in the restaurant for take-out, they don't communicate with each other, and they don't tell you which one has your order, or ask how you placed your order. After giving my name 3 times in a 15 minute span, they share that phone orders are the bar. And when I got to the bar, the cashier couldn't find my order. She even printed a receipt to show me their store's number to ask if that's the number I called. Of course it was. It wasn't until I asked if a Gustavo works there, because that's who took the phone order, that the cashier went to the back to look for the order. She proceeded to ask if the order was under Alex. I said it's Allan, but maybe it was a mix up. I told her I can give my phone number, which they asked for in the phone order. Our experience here was very disappointing, mainly because of the waiter's attitude and lack of basic customer service. From the moment we sat down, he showed no kindness or effort to make us feel welcomed, especially considering it was our first time visiting the restaurant. Throughout the entire meal, he never once checked in to ask if the food was good, if we needed anything, or how our experience was going. We constantly had to remind him to bring items we asked for, sometimes more than once, which made the whole visit feel frustrating and unprofessional. His attitude came off as careless and uninterested, and it honestly affected the whole dining experience. For a place that seemed promising, the service was extremely disappointing. I sent Sergio's owner the following review: I write because we both own small businesses and when something happens that makes our clients upset, I am always grateful to be told. Your management at Sergio's Doral location is thoughtless and have elevated wanton rudeness to an artform. That's bad enough, but they're also incompetent cowards. My sister reserved the private room at your Doral location in late August or early September to celebrate our Mother's 90th birthday on October 12th. She left a deposit. She invited about 35 or so people to attend; all attended. Some guests, not just my family and me, traveled from out-of-state to celebrate. As you can imagine, most of our guests ranged in age from 70 to 95 years of age. My sister arrived at the restaurant only to learn that 'someone' had "double booked" the private room but failed to inform her. Weeks had passed between the date my sister paid her deposit and October 12th, and no one from your restaurant ever reached out to let her know. We learned that another party had the room as we arrived on October 12th. The moment I arrived I asked to see your on-duty managers. Nothing could be done about the other party and we did not ask to displace them. It wouldn't have been fair to them. They sat a group of very elderly people next to a working kitchen open to the adjacent area where they sat our guests. Temperatures in the dining area soared from the kitchen heat. I asked to speak to your managers three times. The managers (each of the three) sent your hostesses to talk to us instead but even she would not meet with us after our initial complaint. They argued with staff about whether to speak with us for some time, but never spoke to us. You should know that your waitstaff performed well, were friendly, kind to the elderly people in attendance, and helpful - sometimes even entertaining. We were served by two men - one of them portly, barely capable of speaking English, and incredibly entertaining. They should be lauded for trying hard to fix a problem and they were clearly uncomfortable that your management would not meet with us. Our guests and yours were septua-, octo-, and nano-generians and well over half of who were walker-assisted or wheel chair-bound. As the afternoon wore on, some of them needed to be carted through the restaurant and taken outside from time-to-time because the heat radiating over the separation between the kitchen and the dining area was overwhelming them. We ended earlier than we intended because they could not bear it. We encouraged the oldest guests to leave, including my Mom. As we left, I asked again to meet with your management to no avail. I am from Miami. I remember when your Mom opened the Sergio's on Coral Way and I was a frequent customer when it was a shell of it's current size. I've always applauded your family's success. Nevertheless, I'll never spend another dime at Sergio's. While Miami is our home of origination, we no longer live there. We return to Miami often and remain amazed at how shabbily restaurants treat customers and how willing customers are to put up with abuse. Our recent experience mirrors Miami's unfortunate service trend. That particular disagreeable trend amongst service providers in Miami has apparently spread to Sergio's. We first noticed the problem last year when we were in Miami for Christmas and your waitstaff at the Coral Way location also had bad moments, but we just attributed it to the newly rude Miami being newly rude Miami. Although we live far away I am in Miami a lot, often for business. If I were to estimate, I spend about $10,000 a year at your restaurant because I commonly meet clients and colleagues for breakfast or lunch - or because I take my family there for meals. My Mom's birthday celebration represented another $1,000 or so in revenue for Sergio's. Given your management's inexcusable behavior and rudeness, my patronage won't go where it's held in contempt. Sergio's feckless and arrogant managers at its Doral location lost you a customer at every location. My fear is that like other restaurant owners who do not see a problem with poorly trained managers or poorer still customer service training, you'll ignore it, learn, and do nothing. Here is the thing: economies always turn. Miami is strewn with the carcasses of successful restaurants that died during economic downturns. Money people spend at restaurants is discretionary and the first thing people economize on when economies turn bad is eating out. It would seem to me obvious that restaurants that appreciate customers will survive and those with discourteous and unskilled managers, like those who worked at Doral that Sunday, will not. We genuinely wish you well. More importantly, we hope you fix your management problem before it costs you your business. read more

We visited this Sergio's on Kendall Drive for Father's day for a late lunch. The restaurant was not busy, so we didn't have to wait long for our table. Service was good. Our waitress was very attentive and helpful. The food could have been much better. The Arroz con Pollo was very hot, but very wet. The Chicken a la Plancha was hard, overcooked, at room temperature, and with no flavor. The Tostones were uneatable. The Chicken a la Milanesa was so so. The fried pork chunks, according to my father, were good. The Congri and Vegeterian Pizza were OK. The coconut flan had the coconut on top. Sorry, but forgot to take pictures of all the other plates. Place has great food! However a few things caused me to give it a lower rating. 1. They use a very strong cleaner and all I smelled while eating was the cleaning product so food tasted like it. 2. Staff could use some training in being friendly. Not the friendliest service. 3. Some of the food was not cooked right and had to send back. 4. There's a difference in location when you go to the ventadita here for the Knaus Berry guava and cheese cinnamon rolls. You'd expect to get what you see on their advertising/social media.
