I've been to this place to eat, and I am also a picky eater but, I must say the food here is awesome. Do not be fooled by what one might say , because I was pleasantly surprised when I ate here. My family and I have enjoyed countless meals from salt fish and bake to curried red snapper all were FANTASTIC. This restaurant was the worst experience I've had for Jamaican food ever. Not only am i Jamaican and was disappointed in the fact that they served plain rice (I have never in my life seen a Jamaican restaurant serve rice like this as the default) but the process to getting the overpriced food in the first place was drawn out. First, the website that Yelp provides is completely irrelevant and that menu is from 2008 as I was told by an employee there. And although the removal of the menu is out of their control, it seems little efforts were made to actually make it easy on the customer to complete the transaction. They apparently have an updated Facebook page but I highly recommend just directly calling and speaking because they don't provide prices unless you ask. The method they use for ordering is text based and we were going back and forth for 30 min asking questions and changing orders. When I tried asking the man at the window questions he was quick to say just text instead of talking in person. Terrible customer service. Overpriced food. My wife and I decided to check this place out because we love Caribbean food. This place says it's "Caribbean food" they should say "West Indian food" because Guyana is definitely not Caribbean it's West Indies. $25.00 for a goat roti! And they make you wait 20 mins for it. First of all, the guy with the dreads is mean as fuck, he has a nasty attitude for no reason whatsoever. We should of walked out immediately after we said hello him and he didn't answered back. The restaurant-if you want to call it that- smells like insects spray, there are no chairs to sit down and eat so the dreadlocks guy says "stand up if you want that's what we have." He picked up stuff from the ground and put it underneath the counter then handle food. The curtain on the window where the food comes out supposed to be white in color- it's dirty as shit. As I stood there and waited for the food to come I took a look around the place. There is dirt on the walls and on the floor too, is if no one sweeps or dust in years. We eventually ran out of there after waiting 20 minutes when a woman came out and slammed the food on the counter and said $50.00! FOOD INSPECTORS WHERE YOU? This place is a health hazard. read more

Stopped by here by chance when the boo and I were looking for a Caribbean spot and (surprisingly) they hadn't run out of oxtail yet as most Caribbean spots do at 6:30. It's a good quantity of food and delicious. A little pricier than the carribean spots around NY and CT, but I guess that's what you get when there's no competition in the area. I was in during the weekend of the 4th with a few hungry friends. 4 people ate heartily for about $50 in total. The surprising thing about this would be that it could easily have tallied $120 and still been a good value for the money. The main thing holding this place back is the atmosphere. Better that than all atmosphere, no food in this neck of the woods! I also felt like punches were pulled just a hair in the interest of keeping a loyal local following over staying true to authentic Caribbean foods. Some of the latter is undoubtedly a matter of importing fresh produce et cetera. If memory serves, they were displaying the colours of the Bahamas at the counter. A hand drawn mashup of the flags of the Caribbean was proudly framed on the counter, as well. Even though we were meat eaters, there are plenty of tempting vegetarian options. One would expect this of the Islands, and it was a good sign when I walked in. Most Rastafari do not eat meat. This is the epitome of a family business. It is entirely humble, and I was torn about reviewing it at all. I don't want it ruined by a deluge of tourists! XD If I closed my eyes, it could easily have been the side of the road in a corrugated aluminum building by the sea. Anthony Bourdain would be quite happy here. They only have a couple of stools and no public restroom, which is regrettable. Tables and a simple bathroom would really upgrade the premises. There is a bench outside where you could dine outdoors, should you choose. If they were to go the extra mile and secure a liquor licence, we'd probably never leave! Again, many Rastafari do not drink, so this was not shocking to me. Even if they carried a few non alcoholic beverages, like ginger beer, virgin lime soda, freshly squeezed lemonade, or good island punch, it would be too tempting to pass by. Most of us ordered the goat curry. Thankfully, mine had more of a kick then one tends to get in this neighbourhood. I still wouldn't call it spicey, but it was flavourful. They gave me hot sauce, but I think they were worried about my heat tolerance and substituted the low grade stuff. I also sampled the jerk chicken and the chicken curry and roti. Chicken is clearly the way to go! The chicken curry was splendid. It was juicy perfection. It was just spicy enough, with a very complex depth of flavour. It was freshly prepared, and it tasted so. The jerk had a kick to it, but it was largely heat and couldn't hold a candle to the chicken curry in terms of its profile. The roti was amazing. It was hot and not greasy in the least. It tore wonderfully, and I was happy that the sample portion was as small as it was. I would have ate as much as he brought out! Spare us some plantains, sir! You only get two per order, alas. The rice and beans were a bit addicting. The star of the side - show was easily the cabbage. I lived in Ireland for a year, and I cannot tell you how much awful cabbage I've ingested over the years. Not here. It has just the right amount of crunch. There's a bit of sweetcorn in there and some peas and carrots to add interest. I desired just a touch of lime, starfruit, citrus, or vinegar to really add punch to it. Oxtail was on the menu that night, as well. I can only imagine I'll try some at some point in the future. This is the sort of place where you should just walk in and throw yourself on the mercy of the chef. They know what's best for you that day! I will certainly return. Don't waste your time if you are looking for authentic carribean food. I had order an curry goat and the meat was cut into such thin slices I second guessed as for oxtail. Of course the goat also has no flavor that I would have tasted if it truly was goat. The dish was full of MSG. The curry had no curry in it. I'd like to start off by saying that this is the most amazing Caribbean food that I have ever eaten. The food is even better than I've had while visiting the caribbean. Everything was fresh and flavorful, my party of five all ordered something different so that we could share all of their offerings. We had curry goat with roti, curry chicken with roti, brown stew chicken, jerk chicken and the barbecued wings. Everything was amazing, my favorites were the Jerk and the roti, both were very flavorful and authentic. It is a take-out restaurant so I would keep that in mind before arriving. The man who helped us offered us samples before we ordered so our group got to taste everything in order to decide. Very clean establishment and very kind/helpful workers. This is my new favorite caribbean place in this area. Life hack: Order the grilled jerk chicken and ask them to put sauce over the top. So tasty. read more

Talk about a great find. Shadowed by typical tourist restaurants to cater to visitors from Great Wolf Lodge and Camelback Resort, this hole in the wall hut offers authentic Caribbean food along side several vegan dishes. I'm not into vegan but there was so much flavor and spice in those dishes that I wouldn't mind eating that everyday. No seating or tables so recommend ordering in advance and picking up to go. The owners are super chill and tell you exactly what's in any order if you ask, plus specials for the next couple of days if you're in the area for the weekend. If you don't like flavor and spice, skip this and go to Friendly's. If you want to try something new and have no regrets afterwards then go here. Definitely won't leave hungry read more

Oh lawd...where should I start? Stayed over at great wolf lodge and was excited to find out that there was a Jamaican restaurant right next to entrance. The hours posted on website and door stated 11am to 10pm. First night in Poconos we called the restaurant around 9pm to see if they were still opened..a guy answered "hello"...he did not identify the name of the business or anything. So I asked is this the Jamaican rest in front of GWL and he said yes but that they closed early today b/c they ran out of food. Ok no problem we will try again tomorrow. Next day we left the park and got to restaurant at 2:45pm and the place looks closed. So we called, same guy answered and he says we will open at 3pm even though his sign on the door says 11am-10pm. 5mins later, my mother in law decides to call and this guy answers but now says restaurant won't open till 4pm! What?! Place is in good location but obviously they don't have good management. We drove off and instead went to El Ricon (Puerto Rican) restaurant and the food was excellent! read more

Wow! Went here tonight specifically for the vegan menu. We all had the same dish: the chikn teriyaki. It came served over rice and beans, with cabbage and two plantains. It was huge! Two meals for us. But more importantly, it was excellent! Truly delicious. The food is cooked from scratch after you order. So fresh and worth the wait. FYI, it is a takeout place. It is all about the food here, so don't expect ambiance and a sit down experience. The owner was super nice and helpful. He explained that they will be adding an entire stream table of vegan offerings shortly. We are only sorry that we live so far away from such a talented chef. A take-out only touch of Jamaica. The short rib and jerk chicken fell right off the bone and were accompanied with a large portion of rice, plantains and vegetables. Two medium size orders were the perfect size for a family of three but do yourself a favor and order the large. this is a wonderful find. basically a take out place with very limited counter space, the food was excellent. we were given a sample of the curried chicken with roti which was outstanding. we took the jerk chicken home and found it spicy and delicious and the accompanying rice was perfectly done. we also had curried chicken in a pastry dough that was very good as was the beef. i'll go back. wish i lived closer. read more

Thisgem of a place at the entrance of the Great Wolf Lodge is a must for foodies. We called ahead to get jerk chickern .oxtail and spicy chicken lo mein last night and it was very tasty and spicy. I am back here for lunch on Sunday to get salted fish an okra. The aroma from the kitchen is intoxicating. The salted cod we had with pickled veggies was wonderfull. It is better to call ahead to pickup but they have items already prepared. I may get beefl patties and curry goat as well. I have been to Camelback every winter but this is by far the best place to eat!..there is a wonderfull Polish deli next door as well.. read more

After reading the review from Yelp on how highly the Ox Tail was recommended, we wanted to try it for lunch. When we got there at 12:45 pm and the restaurant was closed, we called the # and someone answered saying that they'll open in 15 min even though the hours listed is 11:00 am to 11:00 pm. We waited around until they open at 1:00 pm. We placed our order, they came back out after a few minutes saying that the Ox Tail is not ready until 40 minutes, the roti was not made, and they don't have the green banana & saltfish. We ended up ordering a jerk chicken and chicken stew and beef patty. They were just ok. read more
