Stopped in here to get a few bakery items and coffee. Everything looks great, but the taste wasn't 100% there. The pistachio chocolate cross ain't had artificial green dye and the taste wasn't great. Got a chocolate slice of some time of bread was a little dry and then also a raspberry almond tart which lacked flavor. Overall the breads looked good next time I will try those. read more

The pastries here are divine. My favorite is their raisin snail, I love how flakey it is and has a nice sweet apricot aroma taste on the outside . Their baked miso chocolate chip cookies is an absolute die for as well-Tate's bakery can never! & can we talk about their Chicken banh mi its super savory, has the perfect crunch and a nice kick to it. The bakery is definitely more elevated compared to any bakeries in the Hamptons. I happened to take a glance of the kitchen when I was waiting to use the restroom and saw how serious they are when it comes to cleanliness. Carissa has good food and some truly delicious pastries, but unfortunately the service is extremely disappointing. There's a woman who seems to be either the manager or the owner, and her attitude comes across as unfriendly and unwelcoming. A lot of people had warned me about the service here, but I still wanted to give it a chance. Sadly, I had the same experience, and I won't be coming back. Stunning interior design. We dined and service was decently quick; pastries were available right after ordering, with the only wait being for the coffee and sandwiches. We tried the chocolate croissant, smoked turkey sandwich, and pistachio latte. Chocolate croissant was OK, but our friends absolutely loved the pistachio croissant. Pistachio latte was only OK, but they are probably not known for their coffee beans. However, the smoked turkey sandwich was fantastic. the ciabatta bread was perfectly crisp and crunchy with the nice doughy interior, and the turkey paired so well with the crunchy kohlrabi slaw. The tomatoes were also extremely fresh!! Highly recommend this sandwich, definitely would be on my top sandwich list. read more

5 stars for the food and coffee, 1 star for the service. We got coffee pastries and the turkey sandwich. They also let us sample the hazelnut brownie. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. The pastries were baked to perfection and the bread for the sandwich was beyond delicious. The only downside of this place was the impatience of the server. We barely approached the counter and she snapped asking what we wanted and got annoyed when we said we didn't know yet since there was no menu out or given to us. She handed us a menu and asked us to move aside. (Keep in mind at the time we were there there were only about three other people there). The entire time we were ordering she looked annoyed and constantly rolled her eyes as if we were a bother to her. Tried to get me to sit on an extremely uncomfortable bar seat and was not welcoming at all to say the least I have found the other staff more welcoming, however they are closely watched over by this woman who was extremely rude. I was shocked to read all the other comments when I came on here about her that she is actually the owner!!! well I'm going to do what many other people have done and voiced my opinion with my feet by never going back here again her rudeness really made everything extremely stressful and I'm certainly not going to patronize a business with an owner who treats their customers like that. read more

"Oh no! What could improve?" Yelp asks. Wow Ok WHERE DO I START? Firstly, I'd like to say that Carissa is a doll. A sweetheart, I love her story. Love her bakery and sandwiches! The Beet Rubin, GENIUS! But, I went in with a friend to order sandwiches and get coffees for a group back at the house. I ordered first then got my latté and waited for her to order. She ran into some old friends sitting at the long community table and sat with them and chatted while perusing her menu. Meanwhile, while I was waiting for sandwiches, I went and looked at the provisions and was going to get my favorite Berry Jam but also needed some good olive oil. While I was deciding which one to get, an evil force appeared in my space. She was literally millimeters away from my face and attempted to physically TAKE the latte I was drinking out of my hands, like physically remove it from my person. I was perplexed and confused. She didn't introduce herself, she just invasively tried to take my drink. I had no idea what was going on, then she told me I was disrupting "her" restaurant with my "to go" latté and that she would put it in a proper cup or something along the lines of that. It made no sense as I was holding a jar of jam in my other hand and obviously shopping for MORE items while waiting for my sandwiches.. Then I come to find out she's a partner. What? And, this is how she treats her customers? What on earth was this woman thinking is beyond me but it was rude and uncalled for and I hope she understands that this is not cool at all and she needs to calm down. She treated me like I was a criminal for holding a to go cup in "her" restaurant while shopping for more stuff . Wtf? Today ordered chocolate croissants, a plain croissant for my sister ("I could eat these all day"), fromage bread (favorite for today) and a pistachio croissant. The pistachio croissant had pistachio cream and chocolate inside. All 5 items cost approximately $26. I find their pastry and bread are well priced and not jacked up for the Hamptons. There wasn't much of a line to order even though the parking lot was packed. My server was friendly enough. Great food but TERRIBLE service. The manager or owner is so obnoxious and constantly is on top of customers rushing them into ordering, sitting, waiting outside, without allowing you to have a moment to decide what you want. The staff unfortunately is the exact same way. They either all have a stick you know where or have been traumatized by management. They can't be bothered to answer any questions about their menu and make YOU feel like the problem. They're also always over charging. I live close bye and frequent this spot often but I've had it and no longer will be coming here. It's not worth it to spend $60+ on a lunch or breakfast for one and leave feeling just bad and frustrated. Do yourself a favor and go to Tutto cafe, Sant Ambroeus or Amber Waves. You'll get just as good food if not better and you will leave feeling better, not worse about yourself. read more

My feelings have never been so hurt, and I've never been so embarrassed in public. I was staying across the street at East Hampton House for a work trip and thought this place looked cute, so I walked in. I ordered a couple of pastries, a coffee, and a bacon, egg & cheese, $45. No problem, it's the Hamptons. There appeared to be a clear restaurant section, but also a large communal table in the front, near where you order. Tons of people were sitting there, so I sat and started eating. A woman -- older, white, blonde, came up and said loudly, "Excuse me, this is not where you should be sitting. You ordered to-go, which means you cannot eat here. We wouldn't have wasted all this plastic if we knew you were staying." I was stunned. I didn't say a word. Everyone around us looked just as shocked. Several people sitting at the table said, "That was so rude," and invited me to scoot in and sit with them as part of their group, which was incredibly kind, but by then I was already shaken. I've truly never been treated like that in my life. I felt publicly scolded and humiliated over... eating a sandwich at a communal table after spending $45. The table was in the main ordering area ,not clearly marked or roped off ,and it absolutely looked like a spot anyone could sit. I don't know if this happened because I'm a gay, ethnic male, I want to give the benefit of the doubt ,but the way I was singled out felt pointed. Whatever the reason, it was despicable. Here's the kicker: I work for a major brand in Amagansett that frequently uses this establishment for events. Not anymore. You've just lost a significant client -- and I'll be making sure my colleagues know exactly why. Never again. read more

Came to Carissa's for a quick lunch and latte one afternoon while visiting the Hamptons, and quickly fell in love with the ambience. The coffee was definitely delicious, and for lunch I got their broccolini sandwich. I LOVED the sandwich. It had roasted broccolini with preserved lemon and aged cheddar. Absolutely delicious. I will say that the kitchen forgot my order so I waited a while, but the server was so apologetic and gave me a treat on the house. I chose a croissant and I have to say it was one of the best I've ever had. So incredibly flaky and buttery. Perfectly laminated. Again, it's pricey here but it's the Hamptons so what do we expect? The food itself was good (albeit a bit overpriced but that's the Hamptons for you), but we got it to go and for whatever reason they gave it to us in like an open box which I thought was a little odd. The hostess was also very aggressive with us for no reason, after we had walked in she directed us where to order to go food and then asked us 3 times to switch where we were standing to wait for our food. It was definitely busy when we were there but not so busy that she needed to ask us to stand in different areas, at one point she asked us to sit at the communal table where people were eating and I thought that was especially odd. Coffee and pastries are excellent. That said, the female manager is miserable. She has a snarky attitude every time a child sets foot in the restaurant. Once in a blue moon I take a trip to the South Fork of Long Island. In my hey day I would ride my bike from Orient - Shelter Island - Sag, maybe Bridgehampton and back. But those days are past. I now drive my Ranger. Today I decided to drive around Great Peconic Bay via routes 25-24-27 versus ferrying. However, due to the absolutely insane traffic I changed my course on the way home and took the ferries. I know there is traffic in the summer but in the winter too?!?!? Midweek?!?!?! Yikes. Along the route I couldn't help but notice the plethora of "Slow Down!' and "Drive Like Your Kids Live Here!" signs on the South Fork lawns. There were also electronic speed posting signs every few miles - telling you your speed versus the speed limit. I mean it is bumper to bumper! And when it isn't bumper to bumper someone in a Lamborghini or Cybertruck is tailgating you --- attempting to make you go faster. Not me buddy. I know the cops are behind each and every tree...waiting for ME! The SF of LI is uber white collar and Democratic, while the North Fork of LI is blue collar (now trending a bit towards powder blue) and Trumpish. The differences are pretty obvious. Take Carissa's Bakery for example. The shop is off route 27. There is a small parking lot which was full in the winter so must be CRAZY overflowing in the summer months. The decor is very clean minimalism. White tiles, white concrete bar, beautiful brass fittings. MONEY! There is a somewhat open kitchen and a rather cold concrete and glass counter selling very expensive fresh baked goods and chocolates. The place aint quaint like the Orient Country Store. It is cold and yet strangely inviting. You order from what seems to be a European exchange student on a work visa and pay at the counter, then decide where to sit and then...sit. Once you sit there is full service. They bring you water with mint in a nice carafe and there is a very nice water glass. The line moves fast. The food comes out fast. There is a pleasant wine bar serving rather esoteric wines with pretty arty labels. Tap beer! There is seating outside and inside. There are large group tables and small tables for two or so people. Form does not really follow function here. It's all about what it looks like. The design is the selling point. That and the beautiful and overdressed relocated Manhattanites dining on their food. No one is wearing plaid flannel over shirts and hoodies from Walmart. Most are decked out in "casual" Prada or Gucci. I ordered a sandwich which was absolutely delish. It came with an Opinal straight edge folding knife so that I might be able to slice the sandwich into pieces for easy eating. Jeez I wanted to steal that thing. I love Opinal knives... I have a folding paring knife that I use in my vegetable garden. The only real draw back was that the sandwich was very... ah wet... and stuck to the waxy paper on the cutting board thingamajig they served me. And the cutting board thingamajig was too small. But the table setting looked beautiful and the sandwich... it was delish, so I made a total mess of myself, asked for some extra napkins and then before leaving went into the WC to wash up. I don't wear Prada or Gucci so I was not upset that I had spilled the mayonnaise all over my overalls! read more

Love the space, ambience, and specifically a few of the servers that I've personally interacted with. The outdoor space was RIDDEN with dozens of bees that were really up in everyone's faces/food for the entire duration of my meal, a few had flown into the indoor part as well. The very basic oatmilk latte was always the perfect coffee for me (more so than their cortados) - flavor great, strong, and piping hot even when my S/O would pick it up and deliver it to me at home. Their breakfast sandwich ($20) was extremely overpriced for what it is in essence, but my my, it was worth the decadence of it for my S/O - so so delicious. I had the breakfast tacos - clean, lean, easy to eat, 4/5, also expensive but it is in the Hamptons. Their kimchi cheddar croissant, as a Korean, hit a homerun with me - It is something I'd never seen/had before Carissa's in both Korea and the US, and they did it justice IMO - flaky layers, nice and moist slightly chewy doughy center's texture was consistent even through the kimchi cheddar filling which was spicy enough for me and my non-Korean friends to all enjoy/appreciate. Their brownies that kind of look like canneles from a distance- please get some for anyone who loves brownies, they are perfection in texture, flavor, and not too sweet. The jambon beurre and the pickle rye were also marvelous - particularly the jambon beurre hit something with my Polish-American S/O who had it two days in a row for brunch. The place is always buzzing and the entrance/ getting into some sort of organized line are the worst parts about the experience, but we found it worth the trouble that we returned 4/5 days of our trip (and I loved those morning lattes thoroughly!) read more
