Wish I could write a good review, but have been trying to get an appointment for the past month and the staff will never answer the phone or return a message. I've called more than 10 times and left 4 messages, but never received any response to date. This doctor came recommended to me from a cousin who worked with him at St. Jude's Hospital. But if I can't get an appointment and he doesn't monitor his own staff's work, that's a BIG red flag that there will be more problems in the future, so best to look for another, more responsible doctor. Hopefully someone (Dr. Buckhorn???, Providence???, Blue Shield???, Aetna???) will see this review and address this problem. I have been trying for years to be seen by my doctor.... Yes years. EVERYTIME i call im told he out of town and that seeing him would take weeks if not months. The staff here is so rude and it sucks because the doctor is genuinely so nice. Dr. Buckhorn has been my primary care physician since 2020 and I have not seen him since 2020. I met with Dr. Carl Buckhorn for the first time as my new primary care physician. He is a very good listener and spent almost an entire hour meeting with me to address several medical conditions. I found Dr. Buckhorn to be attentive, compassionate, caring, and quickly able to understand the need for further medical referrals. He also cares about your overall mental and physical well-being and is thorough. His staff is also extremely polite and easy to schedule and send documents and forms to as well. I've been seeing Dr. Buckhorn for around 7 years and each time I visit is better than the last. The office staff is always kind and friendly; happy to answer any questions I have and always calls me to remind me of appointments or follow-up. Dr. Buckhorn is attentive and really listens to what I have to say so much that I feel like I am talking to a friend who really cares about my health rather than just any physician. This review is for Dr. Buckhorn and his staff. I have nothing but terrible things to say about them. I was seen in the emergency room due to pain in my foot and pain in my thumb (which had a lump on the knuckle and swelling). I was told that I had a fractured toe but they didn't know what was wrong with my thumb and that I needed to follow up with my PCP, Dr. Buckhorn. His receptionist said she spoke to the doc and that he wouldn't see me because my toe isn't really broken and that they wouldn't see me for 6 weeks when they had an open appt. The doc never looked at the xrays. I was then seen at an urgent care because the pain in my thumb as well as the swelling were much worse. I was told that I needed to see my PCP right away. I called and they refused to see me until my appt in 6 weeks. I was then at another e.r. the following day because the pain was so bad that I was barely able to function. There they did another xray and said that I had an avulsion fracture of the thumb (where part of the bone has chipped off). They splinted my thumb and told me to call my PCP to see if they wanted to cast it once some of the swelling was reduced. I called his office during business hours and nobody answered so I emailed them and never received a response. The following day the swelling was so bad that it was purple and the skin was so taught that it felt like it was going to explode so I was seen again at the e.r. who then told me that I needed to see an orthopedic specialist which must be referred through my pcp. I called them again. The receptionist was annoyed that I was calling again and told me that the person who does the referrals wouldn't be back in the office e u til the day after my appointment so I might as well just wait until my appt. My Appointment finally rolls around and I check in and the receptionist sits there for 15 mi utes criticizing another receptionist's makeup and clothing before she gets off her butt to get my file. She takes me to a room and asks what the "problem" is. I tell her everything and she rolls her eyes and says, "Well, the E.R. says that nothing's wrong woth your foot." And walks out of the room and closes the door while I'm still telling her that the real problem is my thumb. I sat there for 20 minutes after she put me in the room (which was already 10 minutes over my appt time) before the same receptionist comes in and tells me that the doc is still not in the office. I told her that this is ridiculous and that I was going to file a complaint to which she replied, "Do whatever you want." As I was finishing up the complaint he finally walks in. As I'm explaining what had happened and the way I was spoken to and treated by the receptionist he apologized and said that I should have been seen right away and that I needed an immediate referral to a specialist. I told him that his receptionist said the person that does the referrals wouldn't be there until the following day. At that point he told me that the receptionist IS the person who does the referrals and he doesn't know why she lied to me. As if all of this isn't bad enough I received a letter today stating that because I filed a complaint that they will no longer see me. I am attaching photos of my thumb and the letter. read more

We came for a serious concern, fearing cancer, and the office staff was casual and flippant, constantly joking and slow in execution. The doctor had no good explanation for the symptom under examination, and just threw a theory out there (uh, bad diet?). The doctor ordered a panel of tests, and then I had to continually follow up with the casual, jokey office staff to get results. This past Saturday night Dr BUCKHORN was assigned by St Jude ER to admit and manage my 91 year old mother in law, who came into the ER with dehydration from vomiting and diarrhea. She lives far away and has no local doctors providing her care. Nor, as KAISER members, do we. Early on Monday (yesterday) morning when I tried to reach this doc via his office, I was told by his operator Cynthia that the office didn't know where he was or how to reach him. They made no effort to help me connect to him. When I called back around lunchtime I got the same answer. I asked for the office manager, but Cynthia didn't know where she was either. HUH?! You don't know where your doc is or how to reach him? What kind of incompetent, uncaring office is this? When I finally asked hospital staff to page Dr Buckhorn for me, he did call right back when he heard I was planning to replace him. As it turns out he'd replaced himself already with a Hospitalist. Saved me the trouble. The only reason I gave two stars instead of one is that I cannot really assess this doc's skill or caring as a physician. But I know I NEVER want to deal with his office again. read more

Dr. Buckhorn and staff truly care about the patients needs. I was referred to Dr. Buckhorn by a lifetime friend when she heard I had had a mountain biking accident. After emergency surgery, I was discharged from hospital instructed to follow up with my primary. My primary referred me to a GI specialist that I had to wait to see for 3 months. I was waiting while in liver failure and no answers. My whole body itched and my primary wasn't able to do much for me. I was scared and very stressed out, I couldn't sleep due to the affects of liver failure. I finally reached out to Dr. Buckhorn's office and the manager took the time to listen to my story, spoke to Dr. Buckhorn prior to my first appointment, called their preferred GI specialist and got me in that week to see him. Both Dr. Buckhorn and GI specialist coordinated care and I am still alive, back to riding my bike and working out!! You end up becoming family to Dr. Buckhorn's practice for him is about truly treating the patient. I switched to Dr. Buckhorn as my primary and have also taken my teen daughter to see him. I absolutely do not recommend Dr. Buckhorn or his office in Fullerton. After sending me to get blood tests done for what urgent care said was a UTI. He didn't think my symptoms were related to a UTI. I started to have other symptoms and bleeding so I called and left a voicemail to receive a call back during business hours. This was on a Sunday so I already knew the office was closed. Today is Friday, and I had yet to receive a call back so I called them. I was told that it takes time for the results to come back, but tell me why it took urgent care only a couple hours to call me back with my results previously? The office manager then told me that the doctor was offended that I called him a liar then proceeded to tell me that I didn't leave a voicemail on Sunday and she knows that for a fact because she checks all of the messages! Unfortunately this was my PCP. It was my first and last visit here. I do not recommend scheduling any appointments here as it's going to take them a hour to see you and then tell you he can see the energy around your head. Just wow. read more

His office staff, two of them Debbie and Cynthia are always friendly and quick to get you an appointment when needed. And when they take you back to do vitals they truly care. Dr Buckhorn doesn't just practice medicine, he believes in spiritual healing inside and out. He never makes me feel rushed and answers all my worries and questions. Although I chose this doctor to be my Primary Care Physician, I was never able to get an appointment. I needed an appointment in order to get some prescriptions refilled before my coverage ends at the end of the month. The front office person (Debra) , was EXTREMELY RUDE and unhelpful. She said there was no doctor on call, even though Dr. Buckhorn will not be available for several weeks. She rudely said that if the patient was compliant, the previous physician would authorize a refill. She assumed we were requesting to have a Rx without seeing the dr., which was not the situation at all. Instead of using a kind and gentle voice, she expressed irritation, as if it was troubling her to even answer the phone. I hope Dr. Buckhorn will see this review and care about the way any patients are addressed, whether he's available or not. read more

Dr Buckhorn was my PCP for several years. I have had nothing but issues with his schedule. I have had to reschedule my appt almost every time I have an spot due to his erratic schedule. When I need the doc I need to be able to see the doc - I have chronic illness that needs to be checked regularly. In the three years since Dr. Buckhorn became my primary care doctor there is only one way I can adequately rate and describe him. "He's the best doctor I ever had and maybe the best one on the planet." He not only graduated number one in his class, but he's not afraid to combine the best of western medicine along with the best of eastern medicine. He recently returned from a week in Chiapas, Mexico on a doctor's without boarders type medical mission to administer to the indigenous people who are descendants of the Mayans who rarely, if ever have access to doctors. Dr. Buckhorn, his wife and the other medical personal worked tirelessly sometimes seeing over a hundred patients a day. I also have to say that Dr. B's office staff is the best, starting with his receptionist, Cynthia, his nurse and main assistant, Debbie and his nurse practitioner, Usha. Then there's Dr. Buckhorn's office manager and wife, Mirella. She is a very kind and compassionate person who agreed to have Dr. B. see a close friend of mine (who is also a doctor) on one of his days off because of her pain and fatigue issues and the challenge of fighting traffic on a week day. It was worth driving the 24 miles from Temple city to Dr. B's practice in Fullerton. Dr. B's meditation class on Monday night is one of the best kept secrets around.
