We never be this little gem existed! We were searching for dinner randomly in Oildale looked over & said let's give it a try. The lady who took our order, I'm guessing maybe Carla, was so sweet. She made suggestions from the menu. She was so kind. We ordered 2 of the Western Burger combos plus mozzarella sticks. It was $36. Not too bad especially with the rising cost of everything. Food review- Western Burger (Reg) BOMB! Hugev& flavorful. Couldn't finish. Western burger (spicy) BOMB! French fries- fresh, hot & salted perfectly! Mozzarella Sticks- Delicious but had to pay for the marinara Onion rings- Dud... overcooked, dried out & very disappointed. I could taste the flavor but was not able to eat them. Carla's Drive-In is another cool Mom and Pop burger stand in Bakersfield. Order at the window then find a picnic table to dine at if you are not taking it to go. I decided to eat my burger and fries at one of their tables. No indoor dining available here. Wait did not take long. Burger and fries were delicious. There was only one negative to my experience at Carla's Drive-In that day, and it was not even their fault. There were a few homeless loitering around and asking for handouts. Other than that, there were no issues. Service was good. Food was good. I liked the nostalgic feel of the place. Will definitely return if I am in the neighborhood craving a yummy burger. read more

The Pepsi was not too good or I would have given them a five star review. The location of this place is not in the best of neighborhoods, but they do their best to try to keep the trouble away but definitely will come back. I'm on a restricted diet temporarily and just called to ask what kind of oil they use to fry with. The man who answered couldn't help me so the manager/owner? came on the phone and I just said I can't have any soy, canola, seed oils, etc. I was hoping they would be one of the places that used tallow, but before I got any further she said "I don't want to sell anything to you." It was extremely blunt and very rude, and I absolutely have a thick skin but that crossed the line. Thanks for saving me $40 in crap food that I didn't really need. Have been going here for 25+ years, more when we lived in oildale, and now occasionally as we drive through, maybe once a year. Never again. read more

I have loved Carla's Drive In for years! Carla's Drive In has been around since I was a kid. It was always a favorite. Best greasy spoon around! We would always order delivery and it has always been great. From the French Burger to the fries,(omg the fries, crispy crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside) with a side of their ranch on the side, also a favorite of mine is the chicken patty dinner. ABSOLUTELY PERFECT. We were having a lazy day, a bit hungover and craving diner food. Carla's has always been great, but today was perfection. We ordered burgers, fries, onion rings, corn dogs and milkshakes. Every single item was outstanding. Juicy delicious burgers, the fries were cooked great and seasoned well. Onion rings AMAZING. Corn dogs almost good as the fair, and milkshakes were sooooooo yummy. Food made fresh to order, it's a small wait, but worth it. We brought our puppies and the drive thru worker even gave us dog treats. Service was outstanding. I haven't been this happy with "fast food" in a long time. GO HERE NOW. read more

I have been there before. Yesterday was my second time. The first time, it was my 5 year old great nephew and I. My nephew wanted an ice cream cone. The person taking our order was the sweetest and nice person I've ever met who worked at a fast food joint. She made us feel welcome, and she was so patient with my nephew. ( he's two hands full, but I love him with all my heart) anyways yesterday she complemented me on my Cologne, and she was very attentive and so helpful. Carla's Drive in is something special. First things first... they deliver! YES! One of my favorite mom and pop stops in town. My go-to is the jumbo burger, because I'll admit their regular burgers are a little too small for me and their French burger is also very delicious! The wait can be a little long sometimes but I can't complain about that because I always receive hot food. Never stale like it's been sitting under a heating lamp for hours. The fries are always seasoned perfectly and their burgers are so tasty! I don't know what they do to make the flavor so great but please don't stop! They have it all, from burgers, to sandwiches, to shrimp baskets, hot dogs, shakes and sundaes. You have variety and that's what I love. This place gets pretty busy during lunch hours. The recent Bakersfield Weekly Yelp [ check it out on your mobile app now! ] gave me a real hankering for the traditional burger and fries. I hadn't been to Carla's in recent history and decided to give them a try. Arriving on a weekend at noon, this place was a bustling little metropolis. I was quickly overcome with menu anxiety at their wide variety of options. I did a quick scan of the Yelp tips (boy, do those come in handy!) and found a few folks mentioning the French Burger Combo. With fries and a crushed ice Root Beer, I was on my way happy tummy-ville. When our order was ready I noticed that they don't skimp on crinkle cut fries. I''m not exaggerating when I saw that two orders of fries equals an entire brown paper bag. Bag 'o fries? Just my style!! I quickly dug into my juicy French Burger, noticing the fresh french bread bun and thick cut bacon. The flat top grilled patties were perfectly seasoned and just right. While not the prettiest burger (see my photo) this tasty treat hit the spot. I'm a strict, leave-no-fry-behind kind of gal. It's just my policy. Unfortunately, it was broken this one time. There was just no way for two people to finish off several pounds of fries! I tried, really, I did. My only real wish was that the fries were a little more seasoned and fried a bit longer. But that's totally personal preference. Once I complete my Bakersfield Drive-In Odyssey, I'll be back to Carla's. If not for the challenge to eat those fries in one sitting. read more
