Have been passing this place often when going to the store so decided to stop and get some dinner. This is a nice diner which Reminds me of one back in Whittier my grandma and I would go to back in the day. Food was delicious and more than enough to satisfy my hunger. I ordered the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and gravy and corn. This was their daily special. I would definitely come back to try other items and want to try their breakfast next. Service was great and staff was very helpful and courteous. Would definitely come back. If in the area give them a try. read more

First time here. It's a beautiful Monday. 9:45am Greeted and seated very quickly. The food is extremely soft. And my eggs Benedict were very basic. Soggy muffin. I can definitely see why I see lots of elderly folks in here. Which is great: so if you're trying to accommodate your friend, or Family on the super soft food here is the place. I thought of denture wearers. A place they can feel comfortable eating. Not so savory. Not very good Our waiter was okay. Didn't really go out of her way to help us naviagte the menu We told her it was our first time here and gave us each time very little time to think of Our order. She kept coming asking if we were ready when we weren't she seemed very annoyed and bothered. My husband and I were in town for the day and as we were leaving we thought we'd try Molly J's for lunch and so glad we did! My husband had the French dip sandwich which was delicious and was a large size sandwich and fries. The roast beef was so tender and seasoned perfectly, *much* better than any comparable sandwich we've had in other restaurants. I had breakfast for lunch with corned beef hash & eggs + hash browns which was also delicious! The service was excellent and we will definitely eat there again next time we're in Bakersfield. read more

Happy Mother's Day! My son took me out to breakfast. Ava R. Our server was very dry and semi rude throught the entire meal. Food was okay. The potatoes were horrible. Dry as if we asked for crispy fries. To top it off, they were handing out carnations to the "Mother's". Guess who ddidn't get one. Yep. You guessed it the only Black mom in the restaurant. Kudos to the other servers who honored the Mother's at their tables. I watched her go to all her other tables handing them out with grace. Sad, but a true reality. read more

Food was ok. I ordered the chicken fried steak breakfast and the portion was good, but the freshness was lacking. It tasted like the steak was pasty and frozen. The home fries were good. The gravy was ok, but needed more seasoning. I won't be going back. read more

I drove past this place a few times before I finally decided to try and let me say it did not disappoint. We decided to try this place because we yelped to see who offered more than just breakfast at early in the morning. This spot has a diner feel and is pretty much dated back too mid 90's look. The food was good and service was also good. They acknowledged us right after stepping up to their counter and were seated right away with menus. Soon after we were asked for our drink order. They allowed us time to browse and asked if we had any questions, the workers seem to get regulars and it looks like they have a good friendly staff. I also couldn't help but notice their amazing pie dessert display that I can't wait to return to try. We all enjoyed our food the chorizo burrito I had was very tasty and not greasy at all. We will return soon to try their cobblers and pies!!! read more

The service is quick and amazing! This is my second time coming here. The food is great but could be better. You do get big portions and the prices are not bad either. The environment is cozy and quick parking too. They had breakfast, lunch and dinner available at 9am on Sunday. read more

This is the spot for us when we go up to all the national parks in the Sierra Nevada. We usually stop here to have breakfast/lunch as our last "real" meal before our camping our backpacking trip. Overall, the food is decent for a typical local/home feel diner. The people there are great. Our server Rebecca was very attentive and detail. She was also very friendly, calm, and efficient in getting our food and our bill. Will definitely come back again as always. read more

What a little gem! We had planned to go to another restaurant when we were in Bakersfield, but it turned out to be too far from where we were doing business. The fellow we were working with recommended Molly J's so we tried it. I had the chicken fried steak breakfast and my husband had the sausage patty breakfast. The waitress, Charlotte, was super sweet and attentive, food was tasty. We were at the counter, and the seats were comfortable. Charlotte even brought us homemade cookies at the end of the meal! I'd definitely be glad to stop in again when we are in town. read more

One of my favorite places in Bakersfield for breakfast. My favorite meal is a hamburger steak with eggs. I have eggs scrambled with some cheddar cheese and green onions. I asked for my hamburger steak rare and actually cook it correctly. Use a higher quality meat, tastes like ground chuck cooking on a flame broiler so it has that flame broiled flavor. I get cottage cheese instead of potatoes and biscuits and gravy. Excellent food and the service is also wonderful. The manager is always working right alongside with the waitresses to insure the customer is taken care of. read more

Very disappointed to say the least. I use to come here all the time with my dad before he passed away a couple of years ago. But hadn't been since before Covid. Back then the food was really good. This morning since we were on that side of town decided to stop by for breakfast. We were greeted right away. Our waitress was good, but the food was not. My husband had steak and eggs. Steak had no flavor he kept adding salt and pepper and covered it some gravy that I ordered as a side for my pork chops. Speaking of pork chops, same thing no flavor! My eggs were cooked. The country potatoes were okay until i made the mistake of putting ketchup on them. The bottle says Heinz, but it didn't not taste like it. It had some type of sweet awful taste. Our toast was soaked in butter. It still looks the same in there, very clean. I also noticed that they are a little higher than a lot of better cafes around town. I won't be back. read more

Went in for lunch with two other ladies. We ordered the meatloaf lunch, patty melt and I had the zucchini appetizer and slice of apple pie. The service was prompt and friendly as usual. We were waiting for our third person and they allows us to be seated which was nice. Our food was delivered time and everyone was happy. They gave us a complimentary cookie. My previous review I had ordered a salad and it was very wet so I opted not to order that again however while walking through the restaurant I noticed somebody else that ordered the salad and unfortunately it looks like there's a soup as well. Everything else I've ever had here is always been great just recommend not ordering a salad. I had never tried apple pie with cheese on it before so he just looked at me like I was kind of crazy but appellee obliged not sure that it turned out exactly how it supposed to however it wasn't horrible. I was thankful she was willing to accommodate what we both seem to think was a weird request. However I can't see the England had it wrong not necessarily but it enhance the flavor of my pie it was definitely interesting. I will try the pie again with a different form of cheese. Not that this is a restaurant negative I think it was very polite of her to assist in anyway she could. Use the restroom there's two of them they're both non-gender seemed relatively clean other than the fact that the person before me peed on the seat but again not the restaurants fault. read more

Sit st the bar if your party can fit or be ready for a hefty wait at this breakfast spot eith tons of regulars. Pretty average breakfast to fuel my day. A few little things that pushed my review down were: slow coffee and drinks, and the biggest hit was the microwaved biscuits! Why have i not given a review before. This place iscs old time favorite. Great country food like chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes. This time i just stopped by for a burger and a few slices of delicious pie. Everything was fresh made and than packed up to go. I highly suggest getting a sice to go if you have room. read more

First time coming here with my partner & like most people say the food is okay. Our server wasn't the best & didn't have good customer service I didn't get her name but she had blonde towards the front of her hair. When it was time to pay she didn't bring us the cookies & said "uh we ran out" but before leaving we checked the other guest that was there & they had received them. Hello Everyone so i am VERY UPSET & in disbelief i ordered a salad and of course it took forever to get , I called in my ordered and it still took a long time for me to get it. Ok it is what it is yes i was on lunch so now my time was cut down. When i finally received my salad and i opened it, it had kraft singles on top it disgusted me first of all I DO NOT EAT Kraft singles in anything EVER & now im served this on a salad of all things.. I came in for Saturday dinner. The prime rib was cold, the baked potato was cold, the vegetables were soggy. I was so disappointed. We came to this cozy coffee shop and restaurant for a well deserved Father's Day brunch expecting it to wait long, but no, we were seated right away. Service was friendly and fast. Food portions are look smaller than other places but they are filling. We ordered the ham and chicken fried steak with country potatoes and were delicious. The biscuits and gravy are the fluffiest we'd have. Place is pleasant and clean but lacks theme decor. I love the high ceilings tho. I love Molly J's. Breakfast is great and the weekend crowds confirm that. I am a fan of their bowl of soup and corn bread. I have fried several kinds and I like the beef vegetable a lot. Tonight I had the Chinese chicken salad which is very large. The salad dressing is fantastic. My husband loves to come on the weekends for the prime rib. Wonderful service from a down home staff. Best of all are the fresh cinnamon rolls. We like them even better than the ones at the fair. read more

There were approximately 5 employees working and approximately 6-7 tables with customers... It took about 10 minutes or so before anyone took our drink order due the loud server having too many tables to properly attend to with one being a fair sized party... A couple arrived after we did and the loud server took their order, delivered their food while mine was sitting on the kitchen counter, then she proceeded to have a chat with this couple as if they were the only customers in the diner... I know this because the couple were seated in the booth in front of and as I have stated before in this review, the server is loud... When she did bring my food, the potatoes were not only runny, they were cold... It took some time for her to get back to our table and when she finally did, I told her the potatoes were cold...Her response? ''Oh'' I get that it is a diner with a short order cook, but there is ZERO reason for cold mashed potatoes... The loud server did ask if I wanted my order remade, but I was aggravated and not willing to wait another 30 minutes or so for a remade order while the server resumed with personal chit chat with other customers instead of attending to the few tables she had, so I declined... There were two other servers (one with the really cool foreign accent and a tall one with a pony tail...) that had no tables and who were doing nothing...There was no reason either one of them could not have helped out by at least delivering the food to the customers... The prices are too high for crap service and cold food... As I was leaving, I told the server with the accent who was at that moment at the cashier station that I was tired of getting bad service and food and that I would not be coming back until they got their act together... On a positive note: The only time I have gotten excellent customer service is when Mercy has been working... Unfortunately, Mercy has different hours now and is not there when we come in at our regular time... I do not care what alternate name you give this restaurant, whether it be Milt's or something else, the underlying owner is still ORG... I am beyond sick and tired of seeing ORG all over B-town and not without reason... I used to go to ORG on Calloway and not one single time in the upwards of 10+ times I ordered a Patty Melt could they get it right... I had many conversations with the manager/franchise owner regarding this as over half the time, the meat was undercooked and all of the time, they were either unable or unwilling to put together a simple meat, cheese and bread order... I stopped going to ORG because of this and every time I see an ORG, I am disgusted... None of this ongoing crap with ORG is worth it anymore... Please understand...If you read this review, know that it is my personal experience and nothing more...

Bakersfield has resturants that offer country potatoes but unfortunately most places fall short, this place is on point with their seasoning. As you can tell by the pictures my kids left happy and full. This place is so welcoming and the interior is cute, plus their restrooms are super clean. I have eaten here many times, always at the counter, and I've been impressed by the place. Now, getting to my most recent visit, well, I looked over the fulsome menu and ordered a ham, avocado and bacon sandwich on a fresh croissant, with a cup of coffee.
