Great spot! Found this traveling thru Iron Mountain. Right off the main drag US-2, Was seated immediately and Cheyenne ( our server ) was there with menus, chips and salsa right away and was right on top of our drink order. Before we knew it . Absolutely wonderful authentic Mexican food! I had the enchiladas Poblanas and the mole sauce is made fresh. Plenty of seating for social distancing and everybody had their masks on. In town for a family event when we dropped in for a late bite. By far the best Mexican restaurant we've been to in many years - this includes places all over Florida. The menu offered a wide variety of Mexican fare and the food came out hot and exactly as we ordered. Service was impeccable and the vibe of the place was enjoyable. i'm floored by the good reviews. the food was...fine. the seasoning was a bit bland, especially for the cost, but it wasn't bad. the margaritas were a nightmare. just pure syrup. i had a headache before leaving. but the real kicker was the teenage boy serving us. dude didn't seem to know what was going on, at any point. when our flour tortillas came cold and we asked them the be warmed he shrugged and said "i guess i can put them in the microwave." lol what??? apparently the "thing we use to make the tortillas" as he so aptly put it is broken...which is fine, that happens, but...do y'all not have a burner? also, we couldn't even get thru a sentence before he'd walk away, so our second batch of margaritas was wrong, but we didn't wanna bother waiting another 10 minutes for another pitcher. at the very least, maybe teach the kid how to talk to customers. shrugging and mumbling is not it. maybe hire some adults. the ambiance was great, tho. 10/10. read more

My husband and I grew up eating authentic Mexican food in California and Arizona. We don't often find what we are looking for in a Mexican restaurant in the Midwest. I have a particularly hard time finding Carne Asada that tastes like it does in Arizona. I ordered the Carne Asada a la Mexicana which is a rib-eye version of Carne Asada instead of the skirt steak which is traditional and on the menu too but it was the best Carne Asada I have had outside of Arizona. My husband got the Mole Ranchero and he felt the mole was almost as good as his favorite place out west. Our server was awesome and very helpful. This is the third time I have been here, even though I don't like Mexican food. The first time I went it was because my kids wanted to go. I figured I would find a salad or something to eat. When I looked at their huge menu, I couldn't find anything that looked good to me. I asked my waiter if they had anything. He gave me a smirk and said that all they had was stuff on the children's menu. I said I wanted the chicken nuggets. He told me that only children order stuff like that. He was very rude. He brought me my nuggets, 4 of them, and smiley fries, again only 4. I get it. I ordered off the children's menu. When I asked if they had ketchup he said no because this is a Mexican restaurant. He ignored us the whole rest of the time we were there. Fast forward to my second visit. This time my son wanted to go for his birthday. This time they had chicken wings on the menu. I asked about them and was told that they are not spicy, which is good since I hate spicy. I asked if I could get them without BBQ sauce on them. He said no they come like that. When they came out, they were deep fried chicken wings that they poured sauce over after cooking. No reason to not exclude the sauce. He just didn't want to. Same waiter as before. Both of these times my kids enjoyed their meals but noted that our waiter was very rude. He didn't check on us again either and we had to find someone to refill our beverages. I went again today with a friend. I ordered the wings and didn't ask that they exclude the sauce. They didn't have sauce on them, which was fine. But they were burned. They tasted scorched. I will do everything in my power to never go back there again. My friend enjoyed her lunch but her mom said it was tasteless and the cheese was gross. read more

Even though they were busy they managed to get a table ready for us fairly quickly. The food was plentiful and tasty. Was it authentic Mexican food? Well not like my mother-in-laws but certainly authentic Mexican American food. An active group of 10 people had absolutely nothing negative to say about anything they ordered. Enjoyed the veggie taco salad/bowl, subbed black beans instead of refried. Delicious! I grew up in California and currently live on the east coast, so finding an authentic ethnic restaurant in this area can be a little bit of a stretch. However, if you're looking for that Hispanic food flair in the Iron Mountain area, Carlos Cantina would be my recommendation. Service was great, friendly and timely. We ordered takeout for six last week. First the order was "missed" online. I was charged and hopefully will be refunded... Second try went through. Called the number that was given numerous times for curbside pickup. (While sitting in the car outside the Cantina). Busy busy busy... Finally go in to get the food I've paid for twice... wait 10 minutes for them to help. (Tried to avoid going in!). Get home to find my husband's #26 meal has only two items instead of three. Yup, missing a taco. Have called twice to talk to the manager. Blown off both times. Oh yes. Left an 18% tip when we placed the order. Not looking for a free meal. Have eaten here over a dozen times in the last few years. I was looking forward to lunch today and planned to get what I'd had the prior visit. The place seemed off from the get go ... a bunch of young girls running around as servers, no friendly greeting etc. I said to my husband, "Oh no I think the place has been sold or managment changed..." My lunch was a joke. The teenage waitress was completely unfamiliar with the menu ... Once I located the carne asada taco plate I happily waited. It wasnt very busy. Out lunches came. Mine was nothing like the prior plate and even without that comparison it was dry lukeward meat on a lukewarm flour tortilla x3 (&$10.50). I said to the waitress this should have lettuce and cheese and the torillas should be crispy and hot with pico on the plate (there was a tablespoon of yesterday's..glassy tomatoes in a plastic cup). I asked was there a new cook, etc. The waitress was new she had no idea about anything. Yikes. They took it back and threw a way too big amount of cheese on it and a few limp shreds of lettuce. The hot crisp tortillas with hot meat of my prior visit..no dice. Then a very snotty/argumentative woman walked up and shoved the menu at me and indicated those ingredients arent listed. So their idea of a taco evidentally is a cold flour tortilla and strips of meat??!! I've eaten in many Mexican places and private homes and in ACTUAL Mexico (street food). Come on. I explained I've had this before and this isn't it. She argued with me, embarrased my husband and ruined our lunch. We never saw our waitress again. She never checked back with me, never offered to refill drinks. Nothing. For the first time in my life I left no tip. I have never done that. At the cashier I asked if the place had been sold and was told no. I said "hmmm the culture sure seems different and so does the food." She asked what culture meant? I replied "unfriendly" ... (like you didn't greet me or ask how my lunch was for starters). The manager's day off. Maybe that was the issue. Now I have to contact the various people I recommended this place to and reverse.... This is surprisingly one of my favorite Mexican restaurants - and I've eaten Mexican food from coast to coast. Ok, so granted the tacos are not as good as street tacos in LA, but the rest of the menu is pretty good. I always order Bistek a la Mexicana. It's consistently good, though one time it was a bit bland. I've ordered this same dish elsewhere in other states when I travel, just to prove to myself that this place makes it better. In the area looking for a sit down restaurant a little later in the evening, everything closes pretty early in this neck of the woods. The people here were super friendly and didn't let my cup get empty. Glad they were open and was able to try it out because if I was looking for it I probably would've missed it because it's tucked in the side of a building next to a bar. I came to Iron Mountain with some trepidation about the local food scene, because this is a very small area. I was pleased to find Carlos Cantina, which may or may not need some punctuation - Carlos' Cantina? Carlo's Cantina? Who knows? Who cares, since this review isn't about grammar? On to the review! I was very pleased that Carlos Cantina was open the day after New Years, as traveling on holidays is even more complicated than traveling the rest of the time. I went in, got a table, waited a while to order, and couldn't get a hot tea - coffee only, my waitress said. Thanks but no thanks, I replied, I'll take water. After a while, I got a big plate of veggies, rice, guacamole, and a side of beans. Everything was totally okay in the way of Mexican food that's made very far from Mexico in a place whose population is mostly white - my meal was fine, totally solid, filling, and if I didn't travel to California and Texas regularly I'd give a higher rating here but please understand: 3 out of 5 stars to me means a totally decent place to eat, no allergy concerns, food is good but not outstanding, and while I was fine with having time to read and poke the internet, service was definitely on the slow side. read more

They need Chile de Arbol, onion, cilantro and a little bit of tomato or roast some jalapeño 5-6 of them will do, a roast the onion too half, little bit of roasted tomato, & some cilantro in the end of it all. You can tell a lot in the beginning of your meal by the salsa you have. Fix the salsa please. So I ordered a enchilada, because I don't want to be disappointed, I ordered 1, one, uno. It tasted like a ravioli sauce man, it hurt my gut guys, I Really wanted a enchilada to warm my soul, haha. I'll have to wait to get home for Mexican cuisine.
