We were excited to try Carlos's Trattoria after looking at the menu online, but unfortunately our experience didn't live up to expectations. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We were greeted by a friendly host, but as we were walked to our table it was hard not to notice how dirty the floors were.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The atmosphere itself seemed like it could be nice, but the cleanliness was hard to overlook.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I ordered manicotti, which is usually a tube of pasta stuffed with cheese, but what arrived looked more like a lasagna noodle rolled up with a small amount of cheese and very bland sauce. Another order at our table was a stromboli that wasn't very appealing and didn't seem freshly made, especially since we were told an ingredient couldn't be removed. The Caesar salad was good, though that's admittedly hard to mess up. Our waitress seemed either shy or simply uninterested. After bringing our food, she never came back to check on us, even though the restaurant wasn't busy, so there really wasn't an opportunity to mention the issues we had with our meals. We really wanted to like this place and support a local restaurant while visiting the area. Unfortunately, this experience missed the mark, and if we're back in town we'll likely stick with a chain. We love Carlo's! My husband worked in Hartville for 20+ years & ate lunch there almost daily. Sometimes he would bring home my favorite soup, beef & barley (w/garlic rolls to dip in the soup). We live in Wadsworth, but still drive to Hartville for Carlo's great food! Last Saturday we ate lunch there; zuppa soup w/garlic rolls, Carlo melt (sub) & meatball melt (sub) with house made cole slaw & fries. As usual, all of it was delicious and we took home leftovers for lunch the next day! Our first time visiting, absolutely terrible and serious violations. We ordered cheese sticks and we had booth that I had direct vision to kitchen. Young lady in a dirty t-shirt took our cheese sticks out of fryer and dump on a plate, but one fell and I heard her say oh shit, then she picked it up and threw back in fryer!!! I also heard a male voice say "I didn't see nothin". I didn't take my eyes off this.. then she took it out and shook it and put it with the other ones!!! Then served! Driving up to this place it looks so small. As you walk in there is a room on your left hand side. Taking a few steps there is a small area with a few tables. So I thought to myself its a quaint little place "WRONG", the host took us deeper into the restaurant were there was another room. I loved all the colorful images on the wall. We placed our order and it came out within a descent amount of time. Fresh food is always worth waiting for. Although what I initially ordered I could not eat because it contained one of my allergens, I'm so happy they took me seriously and safeguarded my health. So... I live near by and really appreciate and love to support local businesses, which I have for several years. But.... I also love to see local businesses keep up with the times and I DONT mean raising prices!! Lol Pizza have become less cheesy, fewer toppings and way more crust. The lasagna is a complete mess. Hardly any pasta in it. Basically a bowl of sauce with some cheese. It's a joke. Time for a complete REMODEL. It's nasty and gross. They can do better. read more

Usually a good experience. Ordered the calzone for the first time for take out. Got home and discovered the cook simply stuffed it with ricotta cheese...I mean stuffed it. The only ham was a single slice folded over at the bottom. Took two bites...opened it up and discovered how they made it look so big. Threw it away. Wife said call them and get your $14 back. Un-Ironically served cold, their teenage-run back AND front of house serves exactly what you'd expect from a Marie Callender's or Hungry Man focused establishment. Slightly less Italian than a Japanese hibachi-style restaurant, you'll delight in the wallet-emptying experience and updated in the mid-80's ambiance. Good Basic Italian with a couple of standouts on the menu Our friend Shirley who is a local and dines at Carlo's about once a week recommended Carlo's to us. Glad she did because she always did have good taste for simple places that serve great food. We checked into our hotel first and then ran over for dinner. It was somewhat crowded but had not problem being seated. It's a fun atmosphere that people seem to enjoy and is epitomized by the deer head over the bar decked out for Christmas Shirley had recommended the Chicken Parmaesan which is what my wife opted for. Very good with two large Chicken Breasts or a size that one person could not eat at one time, particulary when it comes paired with pasta. I had the Lasagna which was home made but a bit bland and could have used more meat sauce. Still it was very good and still superior to what passes for Lasagna down in our home area. Only disappointment was the salad before the meal. Mostly lettuce with one small sliver of tomato. Granted tomatoes, particulary good ones are hard to find in the winter and expensive but on a cost basis, considering to cost impact on a salad, you can easilly afford to use a bit more. Service was good and I would return because you can't appreciate a restaurant on only one dining experience. read more

1st off, I don't have pictures this time because we were on a technology free evening with my family....so there. This is a long running family owned restaurant and they are GOOD. I am personally a fan of any of their Pizzas and Stromboli. I tried there pastas last night, and they were fairly simple, but good. I will likely stick with what I like here going forward, but all food is great here. The staff is amazing and have mostly been there 20+ years. The pizzas were tasty. The salads were basic. Not NY style pizza, not Chicago style pizza, not really Italian style pizza either. Food was awful. Mucky flat bread, grainy flavorless tomatoes. Basil?! What Basil?! Dressing?! What Dressing?! It was a pathetic attempt at food. Service was seriously lacking. Took too long to take our order. I ordered 2 appetizers as meal but they brought 1 out early. The waitress surprisingly DIDN'T break the glass table top tossing the plates onto the table. She Never came back to check on us. I couldn't eat the crap they served me ( I did give it a try ) and my daughter tried choking down her dry-ass wrap. Half an hour later the waitress finally came to ask how things were, by then we had enough of the place and when she offered to have something else made for me I said no thank you. Maybe if she had come to check on us shortly after literally dropping our food off I may have tried something else. Small house turned restaurant close to downtown Hartville, do not go here for the pasta, you will not be impressed. We went as a family for the first time about a month ago, the decor is very old/nostalgic inside, tables are very close together, our pasta dishes were water logged, like they didnt drain it after pulling it out, so in return the sauce was also watery and lacked that flavor I was looking for. I got a side salad as well, and with any "authentic" italian restaraunts I was looking forward to a house dressing, to my dissapointment they didnt have any, they only had oil and vinegar. However we did order one of their pizzas and strombolis on a Tuesday night, and the pizza was to die for, definitiely the thing to get if you are going to order anything from this place. read more

Employees @ Carlo's Trattoria seriously need to take a customer service training course. The restaurant closes at 9pm on Tuesday evenings. I called at 830 to place a pick up order for two large pizzas and was told that they are not making pizzas anymore tonight. When I questioned why that was I was given a very blasé attitude answer of "we shut our ovens off for the night". When I explained my disservice with her attitude and lack of customer service (closing at 9 but stoping pizza orders at 8:30) the young lady on the phone told me that "no one else does". This is the second bad customer service experience I have had at this restaurant. I will not be giving them an opportunity to have a third. You would think with all the restaurants popping up in Hartville that their customer service will get better. I will never step foot or order from Carlo's Trattoria ever again. read more

I must say, I'm very disappointed with this place. Si ce we moved to the area in 2015, 7 times is the number of times I've visited this restaurant. And only one time was it a good experience. One time the waitress was quite short and rude to my 3 yr old and glaring at her when she switched seats to sit with her grandma. One time, our order never got put in. Once we were turned away because they were too busy and felt that wait would be to long. (Guess I respect one) and tonight was the third- 3rdtime we got turned away because they were closing the kitchen. And this is not like 10 mins before close. All times over an hour and a half before closing. And tonight when I said I thought you closed at 9? And this was at 7:45, she just said sorry it's closed. And as we walked out the front door we could see them talking about us. And I figure this because they were all looking. I just feel a restaurant needs to do better and be better if they want people to continue visiting. read more

From a gluten free perspective there is room for improvement in terms of options and service however I did leave with a full belly and satisfied appetite. Convenient stop when going to the Hartville flea market. They did offer gluten free pasta that was well prepared, not mushy or too under cooked which is a great accomplishment! The waitress was in informed and unresponsive. The meal was served with regular garlic bread which she dropped off and then took off and when I couldn't flag her down I had to go up to the counter to find out if it was gluten free or regular. Then the pasta came with 2 meat balls and I had to track her down again to find out they did have breadcrumbs and were not gluten free. In spite of these challenges I would go back. Never Again!! My wife and I have eaten here a few times, the food is so-so. I've had better Calzone, my family was in the Italian restaurant business - the pizza is under-cooked and lacks flavor - I blame that on the sauce. But here's the real rub! One afternoon we walk in to an empty establishment and the carpet was filthy, strewn with crumbs. They weren't busy, where's the staff to vacuum up the unsightly carpet? We stayed away but on Oct. 19, 2017 at 2:30 pm we meet some relatives for a bite to eat and in today's vernacular we're greeted loudly with ' Hello GUYS! That instantly loses your tip with me. I don't care if that's the way people talk - we're a man and a woman, in fact, that's how our relatives showed up. I explain to the wet behind the ears male millennial that if you look closely there are really two "guys" and two "ladies." So for the rest of our time at Carlo's Trattoria we're called GUYS! On the way out two other workers said very loudly - GOODBYE GUY'S! I guess besides making a point they wanted to demonstrate rudeness and their ignorance. For that they get 5-Stars. This is a ok Italian place. Nothing special and nothing stood out. That may be the problem for me. Service was ok but not overly friendly. Bathrooms were nice and clean. Smelled great. I like this place. I wouldn't say that the food is spectacular, but it is good. The booths are a little uncomfortable because they are a bit small. For an Italian restaurant, the prices are pretty good, but again not spectacular. For some reason, I still really like this place. The atmosphere there just seems to be warm and welcoming. On the outside, the restaurant looks like a house and maybe that's why on the inside, it feels like you're in someone's home. I ordered the Big F pizza. It's a 9" personal pan and it definitely filled me up. The difference between the Big F and a regular pizza is that they swap out the sauce with olive oil, oregano, and garlic. I realize now that I probably prefer my pizza with sauce but this was a tasty alternative. My wife ordered eggplant parmigiana and she really enjoyed it. We did have one complaint. My one friend ordered spaghetti and meatballs. The menu said it came with 2 meatballs so he assumed that they would be pretty big meatballs. When it came out, they were about the size of a golf ball which was a little disappointing. Then, he said they were still a little frozen on the inside. He didn't want to complain to the waitress so we just let it go. He said that the spaghetti was really good though. Overall, I really enjoyed the atmosphere, but I definitely see some room for improvement.
