I have driven by this place numerous times over the past 10 years, never taking much notice although I knew it was there. After my last haircut at another location I decided to try this place. I like the old fashion barbershops in lieu of the big-chain haircut places. When I arrived I was the only customer. The place was small but clean. Carl provided a warm welcome and in the chair I went. After giving Carl basic instructions on how I wanted my hair cut he was finished in no time. Although he was fast, the haircut was exactly to my standards. I was shocked when Carl told me the haircut was only $8.00. Eight dollars???? Who the heck cuts hair for only eight dollars and does a good job as well? Carl does! I gave Carl a tip. He appeared shocked and was very grateful. For those who have also driven by this place numerous times without thinking of getting their haircut here, I suggest they give it at least one try. Remember gentlemen if it's a bad haircut it's only bad for the next 2 to 3 weeks. However, I think most of you will be quite satisfied. read more

8 dollars per cut---very affordable. Small shop, but Carl is a rare find. He He has a pleasant and agreeable personality, and he is very intelligent in conversation. Searching for the location of his shop is a small challenge, bit well worth the patience. He does not take credit card, so make sure you bring cash. But if you look half honest, he might give you a good faith hair cut, as he did to me, and you can pay him back another time. read more

Old school approach at an old school spot with very old school prices... You won't find a better value for $8 anywhere. Being new to AZ I needed a new barber who doesn't charge a lot and this worked out great. It wasn't the best cut- but it's better than some $15 cuts I've had... Carl gives a good military haircut, but go elsewhere for more complex cuts.

Carl is a very nice gentleman. He is very generous and it's only $10/haircut. It's cheap and on top of all of that he does a great job on haircuts. Literally would drive out of my way to go here for haircuts. Make sure you bring cash though because he does not have a card swiper. read more

A friend of mine referred me. I was not disappointed! First come, first served. I had a short wait. This is a small, clean shop like the kind I remember as a kid. Carl is personable and friendly, carrying on pleasant conversation while you're in the chair. He takes cash or check, no cards as yet. Since my forehead goes all the way to the back, I'm picky about how the sides are cut. I don't want that "Monastery-Monk" look, with the hair rings around a bald spot. Carl delivered on the first visit! I am not a Monk! What little I have left is laying great! I'm much happier here than I was at the $20.00 stylist I was using before! Carl is the man! Got tired of Great Clips messing up my hair ( a simple trim) and charging $12 do to so! Plain out rediculous. Found Carl's barber shop online, saw good reviews and thought id give him a shot. Well worth it. I rode in on my motorcycle, walked in, he greeted me and sat me down. I made it just in time tho, as he was cutting my hair, customers flooded in. Got busy really quick and that told me something. That Carl is an awesome barber!! He cut my hair exactly the way i wanted it, didnt leave hair shavings all over my face/neck like Great Clips does (he sucks it up with a small vaccuum device). He is a very nice guy and only charges $8...can't beat that! I usually don't make small talk with barbers, but i enjoyed talking with Carl...very cool guy. I just found my regualr barber! I discovered Carl's shortly after moving to Mesa and have been going to him ever since. I used to pay upwards of $20 for a hair cut and still wasn't happy - typically extending the time between haircuts about 8 to 10 weeks. My hair grows quickly too, so going in for a hair cut was out of desperation. Carl charges just $8, is quick, and really knows what he's doing. I can't tell you how many higher price salons just don't know how to cut Asian hair or deal with cowlicks. Carl handled both like a champ. As long as he's in business and I live in the area, I'll be going back. read more

Very quick, very friendly, did great with my simple man haircut. I told him about a cowlick I had in the back, he thanked me and left that section slightly longer so it would lay flat. Only charges $8. Very reasonable for his friendliness/ experience. Go support this guy, he's well worth it! Oh, I also should mention he's super honest! There was an older gentleman getting his hair cut before me, he gave Carl a $20 and was about to walk out, Carl stopped him and said "You gave me too much"... The old man said "Huh"?. Just stopped in for the first time to see Carl, and I'm glad I did. I got a pompadour haircut, which is surprisingly difficult for people to master for some reason. However, he did it so easily and quickly. I will definitely be coming back in the near future to ensure that my hair continues to look this good at all times. I have been to many Barbers around the area and finally decided to do it myself for a long time because they were just not up to par with my standards. This didn't last too long as I am not very good at cutting my own hair and I really messed up the back. I decided to give barbers one last chance. So I looked and I saw this shop on YELP and decided, since I don't have a lot of hair to cut, that the price seemed right and the other reviews were pretty good. I was nervous trying out someone new because of all my bad experiences, but I swallowed the nerves and tried anyways. It was either that or live day to day with messed up hair. I'm glad I did. Carl seated me instantly and was the most friendly man I have met. I told him my predicament and how I wanted to fix it and he got right to it. He finished with my cut in 10 minutes and, unlike most, we had a friendly conversation. I would recommend him to all of my male friends. I do not ask for a complex cut so I couldn't tell you what he is capable of, but I know that he does what I need fast and efficient. I have officially visited him twice since this event and he continues to amaze. Also, this poor guy acted generally surprised when I tipped him, which is honestly sad.
