Worst fast food restaurant I've visited in quite some time. Customer service was non-existent, food took forever and was cold when delivered to our table. We were the only customers in the place when we ordered, so they can't blame it on being busy. I ordered a simple Famous Star with cheese, no tomato no mayo. Ten minutes later, it arrived cold to the touch, complete with tomato and slathered with mayo. I took it to the counter, politely reminded the cashier that I ordered it with no tomato, no mayo and asked to have a new one made. Ten minutes later, he delivers another cold burger. They got it half right this time, leaving the tomato off. However, still slathered with mayo. It was clear I wasn't going to get an edible meal and I was concerned that they might have tampered with or somehow contaminated the burger at this point. I took it back to the counter and asked for a refund. The cashier said in an almost accusatory tone, "You said you wanted it without tomato or mayo!" I replied, "You're right, that's what I said. This still has mayo on it." Without any apology or attempt to make the burger correctly, he angrily gave me a refund. The restrooms and dining room did not appear to have been cleaned in some time. I would encourage the owner to review his employees training and perhaps do some spot checks as well. Very disappointing experience, especially considering Carl's is a national chain restaurant that usually prides itself on good food, cleanliness and good service. Tonight I was a little upset that I had spend almost $20 on a family meal because this was the only place that was open this late (and not my first choice). I got back to my room and wow, the food was great. I had a cheeseburger with fries. The cheese was melted onto the soft bread with sesame seeds. The fries were crispy and hot. At 9:45 am today we had our drive-thru, what a rude & inconsiderate cashier (lady). We asked her nicely to put 2 creamer & 1 sugar in the coffee since we can't open the coffee lid inside the car, worried to spill or worst part my son with autism might grab it if i open it inside the car. So as we exited I-5 for a late lunch, she intentionally ignored my request to eat at the neighboring McDonald's and was already halfway into her spiel about how she and her friend order senior coffees and share a famous star. After sidestepping a snowstorm that could have stranded us near the summit, we slinked down the slick Grapevine slope, sighed with solace at sere asphalt and stretched the fuel supply upstate to a Shell station where I-5 meets Hwy 58. Following a fill-up (are you getting tired of this yet?), we stopped at this Carl's Jr., tardy for the morning menu. So here was an opportunity to try this burger chain's much-ballyhooed new offering, hand-breaded fried chicken tenders. The product looks appealing enough when served; generously sized and pleasingly golden brown, but upon touching my first tender, a one-inch-long clump of batter fell right off, exposing steamy, snow-white breast meat. Recovered from the shock, the first bite revealed a texture and flavor of boiled chicken instead of fried. All five pieces in the order seemed coated by either just enough or gobs of breading, orange-colored at its doughy base. The Super Star we also ordered was as good as you'd expect this chain's burgers to be. Moral of the story: When you go to Carl's Jr., you can't beat the flame-broiled meat. read more

Absolutely disgusting, I've never seen a more disgusting restroom. There was pee on the floors in the ladies restroom. . Toilets were clogged. No seat covers or toilet paper in some of the stalls. The floors in the dining area were filthy and the entire space could use a good cleaning. Not to mention the annoying fly that wouldn't go away. Never eating here again. read more

My experience at this Carl's Jr. was RIDICULOUS. My husband and I stopped here for a quick bite on one of our drives up the 5. It was some time between 6 and 8 p.m. sometime in late November 2016. After we walked in, I went to the restroom while my husband went to order. There were three stalls in the ladies restroom. No one else was in there. The first stall I went in did not have a door lock on it (see photo). The next stall had toilet seat covers all jammed in it (see photo). The third stall (handicapped) had a trashcan that was lined with one of the Carl's Jr. to-go plastic bags (see photo). When I went to wash my hands, there was no soap (see photo). Upon exiting, I couldn't wait to tell my husband about the appalling condition of the women's restroom. When I reached him, he had just paid the cashier at the counter. The young man couldn't find any change in his drawer and fumbled around for a second to find some change rolls to open. When he couldn't find them immediately, he asked my husband, "Do you want your change?" We both stood there shocked. What? Our change was 82 cents. 82 cents! That's practically a dollar! But because the employee was too lazy to track down some change rolls (mind you only ONE other customer was in there), he had the audacity to ask us whether we wanted our change. Yes, we'd like our 82 cents... If it had been 2 cents then sure, keep it, but 82 cents! In short: Skip this location and go to the Carl's Jr. in Kettleman City. read more

I ordered a chicken burrito combo meal. I get the burrito and it's labeled "steak." I bring it up to the counter and point out that it says "steak" but my receipt says "chicken" and the cashier says, "Check it, it might be chicken." I walk back to my table and bite into it and of course it's steak. I thought, "Are you fucking kidding me?" I didn't feel like walking back up the counter with a half-eaten burrito and trying to exchange it so I ate my wrong, but absolutely correctly-labeled, burrito. On the plus side, the staff helped us dig through the trash when we managed to misplace our car key (we eventually did manage to find it, it was not in the trash). read more

Since this is a fast food restaurant, there is not much that can be said beyond that, but here I go again....I will give it a try and see what comes out at the end. This Carl's Jr. is one of many restaurants in the area, we like to make sure the places we do go to as well taken care of, and this Carl's is one of those place, very clean and well taken care of. This is a good place to bring the family and have a hot meal especially when the weather is 100's of degrees outside and when you need a rest from Interstate 5. The staff here is good, they will take your order and make sure to get it right, but just like anything when you have a human in the middle of the equation something can go wrong, so just make sure you verify your order before leaving, otherwise they are good and helpful. Also make sure you have some extra time, as this place does get busy with all the travelers during the weekend (during our recent visit we had to wait for 20 minutes just to place our order. We would like to say thank you to one family which also waited for 20 minutes too, and then when they placed their order they had no idea how to order anything, which added a few more minutes to our wait.) If you are expecting a 5 star restaurant, then you are coming to the wrong place, this is a fast food restaurant so do not expect more than that. This Carl's is a good place to bring the family for a fast meal, but of course we lock the kids in the car, oops meant to say we let the kids stay in the car, lol. read more

For openers, I'm not generally a Carl's Jr. fan; while it has a nostalgic pang for me (about the only fast food we did with the parents growing up), their pricing the past few years seems on the high side. But here, no matter. After running across to Ronald's place for the kid (she's not a happy star sort of child), the atmosphere was calm, relaxed, and the cashiers weren't a brood of bumbling twits (see related review). We ordered and filled up the beverages at a well-stocked variety of sodas (12+ options), and opted to sit outside; fairly quiet. As they do, the order was brought out to us, the missus asked for ranch to go with lunch, and that was also brought back out to us. And done pleasantly to boot. Overall a clean restaurant, staff were pleasant and helpful, and while I was admittedly not in a rush in any event to to drive the final 225 miles home, I'd have equally been fine lounging a bit more if this place was in my home town. read more

I was on my way back to SoCal after my second BART of 2017 with my good friend, BP. (BART - Bay Area Road Trip) I like Carl's Jr as much as the next foodie and after a visit here, I was quickly reminded that all CJ's are not created equal. Today, I met the the black sheep of the family... 'And it was "b'aa-aa-aa-aaad." (My best sheep impression; yes, I went there.) My navigator suggested McDonald's, a few doors down and of course in my own bull-headed fashion, I said sure then proceeded to drive pass the golden arches and finally pulling into the Carl's Jr drive-thru; smirking the entire time. (Little did I know, the joke was on me! - HA!) Our order: Carl's Famous Star combo, small - requested no onions ($6.99) Fries - requested no salt Diet Coke Chocolate shake ($3.69) Total: $11.48 First, there were no customers ahead of us in the drive-thru, that was a good thing; so I thought. (Wait time: 15 minutes) Before we got our food, I told my BP to check her fries and that they didn't have any added salt. I faintly heard someone yell something from the kitchen regarding the fries through the small order window and of course, I was skeptical. When our order finally arrived, the chocolate shake was a bit thin and watery; not as thick as usual. (Also, they were out of whip cream.) I asked BP about the fries, "They're okay, they must get them pre-seasoned," and continued eating them. I interpreted that as she was happy with the "seasoning." BP made no mention of the burger so I figured it was okay as well. As I was getting on the highway, continuing south, I ate a few fries from the bag. I looked over @ BP, "These have salt? Why didn't you tell me they had salt?..." BP: I said they were seasoned? Me: That doesn't specifically mean "salt." BP: What else would it mean? Me: Well, it could mean they have their own "house seasoning?" Pepper, garlic, and basil would be considered seasonings? (*I don't usually get the fries, I prefer onion rings when it's an option.) If you specifically asked for "no salt," and they had salt why wouldn't you just say, "They added salt." Instead, you want to act like your Martha Stewart, "These fries are seasoned." Friend: I said they were seasoned! Me: LOL - Again, the term "seasoned" does not mean salt! I would've requested a new order and had them fix it if I had known earlier. (By this time we were three exits away.) If you had asked for, "No seasoning," and then told me they were seasoned; that would make sense. Wouldn't it have just been simple enough to say, "They added salt?" Pet peeve: People who are too lazy or make little to no effort to effectively communicate; yet wonder why sh'tuff goes all to hell. (SMH) Say what you mean and choose the words to do so, make the effort. (Apologies, I digress.) I could've had them remake my shake as well but I didn't get that warm, fuzzy feeling from the customer interaction. After all, it's a small, fast food spot in the middle of the I-5... (i.e. - Nowhere) I should've known better. I passed on requesting a redo, didn't want to find someones used bubble gum @ the bottom of my drink. It was probably best that we were back on I-5 because that gum could've easily found its way to the bottom of the fries as well... 'BUT at least it wouldn't have salt! The main reason I'm writing this yelp*view is to remind myself, if I happen to come this way in my future travels - "Pass! Do not stop! Keep driving!" If you need to fill up, get your gas, jump back on the I-5 and find another place to grab a bite. "You're welcome." From the various fast food places to eat on the drive to and from the SF Bay Area, I have found only one solid, reliable, contender; In-N-Out Burger. I am starting this review by saying that if you look at my history I dont write bad reviews very often because I can usually find an upside to any place I go, however, I would give this place 0 stars if possible. We stopped here on our way home after traveling for the holiday weekend. When we walked in there was very few ppl in the dining room but the line was very long so they were pretty busy. The line moved fairly quickly and we started ordering our food. After I finished ordering I mentiond that the price looked awfully high for what had been ordered so far but they read it back and it was right so far. Well by the time we got done ordering it totaled about $40 for 4 ppl. That was definaltey not right. So when they guy taking our order read it back he had doubled almost everything because he didnt know the menu. We were getting the 2 wrapper combo but he was charging us for two 1 wrap combo. He kept telling us that they didnt have that on the menu and we had to point it out to him. The manager came over to cancel the order so he could re-start but didnt stay to help him. We finally get our food and it is missing one of the orders so we let them know and even then it comes out wrong. We left and I will not be stopping that this location again. read more
