We walked in without a reservation at 11:15 on a Friday and were the first customers of the day. Great decor, dim lighting, vintage looking furniture which does not sacrifice comfort for artistry. Our cocktails and meals were spectacular: Botanist Fashioned: 5/5-the brown sugar cinnamon syrup added a spicy bite to each sip which was unexpected and fun. Watermelon Sugar High:4/5-refreshing with watermelon juice freshly made in house and an ice cube with mint frozen in it. Seared cauliflower: 4/5-great appetizer for 2. The crispy chicken sandwich and the Botanist smash burger:5/5-Both had super flavorful pickles and toasted buns which always add a lovely crunch to each bite. If you're ever in Bakersfield and are at least 21, this place is well worth it! We'll hopefully be back someday. Highly recommend!

The drawing was the owner Heather's way of giving back and showing her appreciation for teachers. She was especially touched by our teacher's story, which made the win feel even more meaningful. Many of us who work at the school already dine at Locale and absolutely love the food, so we knew we were in for a treat. Heather brought some of their most popular dishes, including a hot honey goat cheese spread with Pyrenees bread, roasted butternut squash and Brussels sprouts, a fresh garden salad, and a chocolate and strawberry pastry for dessert. Everything was absolutely delicious! What really stood out, though, was how much thought Heather put into making sure everyone could enjoy the meal. She heard that we had some vegetarians among us and went above and beyond by preparing additional dishes without bacon so everyone had plenty to eat. That extra touch meant so much and really showed how genuinely caring and thoughtful she is. Having this incredible meal right before the first day of school was such a special treat. Went through the drive-thru tonight and had an absolutely HORRIBLE experience!!! Almost everything about my order was messed up, and the managers were rude and refused to help make things right... I didn't realize all of the problems with my order til I got home (I live about 15mins away) and had already started eating one of the items. So I called...and called... and called again with no answer, the line just finally hung up on me after soooo many rings. So I decide to drive back there with my receipt in hopes of having my order fixed- BIG FAT MISTAKE!!! I never go back to fast food places to fix an order , I just deal with it, but this order was sooo completely messed up, I HAD to have them fix it (so I thought)... so that, along with the fact that I had already been eating on my burrito, and ESPECIALLY BECAUSE I was unable to contact anyone, I didn't know that I needed to bring the food back. Like, who wants my nibbled on burrito?! So I go through the drive-thru and explain the situation to the employee, who is not the same one I ordered from, and she says the previous woman was new and overwhelmed. This explains how my order was destroyed, but NOT the poor attitude and service she provided! The cashier gets the manager, I explain everything again, and she says without the food there is nothing she can do. I ask how I was supposed to know when they don't answer their phones and she proceeds to tell me that they don't even HAVE A PHONE! Ok, so how was I supposed to get in touch with someone who would've told me this? Oh, you have to contact them on their website! So I ask how to do that, and she says to leave a review here on YELP and the owner will see it. They actually DON'T have a website. So if you're at home, you actually have NO WAY to get in contact with ANYONE!!! Like, how do people call in sick or say they'll be late?!?! All that this manager would do was give me the missing ranch for my $11 salad (which ended up tasting like straight Mayo with a sprinkle of seasoning). I asked if I could at least get an extra dressing or sides of peppers and she refused! Really?!?! I just spent over $40 here on f'ed up food, and you can't spare a ranch dressing or some peppers?!?! Here's everything that was wrong: TRIO BURRITO- 1. Asked for CRISPY BACON & HASHBROWNS- instead was CHARGED for EXTRA bacon ($2) 2. Asked for avocado and was charged $2 but there wasn't ANY avocado at all 3. There was almost NO EGG 4. Asked for salsa- there wasn't ANY 5. Asked for 4 cups of yellow peppers- there weren't ANY in my bag 6. Asked for burrito to be cut in half- it wasn't 7. At the window I asked for a handful of ketchup packets- she didn't put ANY in the bag Southwest Chicken Salad- 1. Asked for tomatoes to be on the side- they were all over my salad 2. Asked for ranch dressing on the side- there wasn't ANY... the new ranch I received after going back was disgusting and all just Mayo 3. Asked for crispy chicken to be on the side- it was soggy and old looking 4. Asked for cheese- there wasn't any Pastrami Chili Cheese Fries- 1. This item was great and huge, but they forgot the pickles! So hopefully that jerk of a manager wasn't lying to me when she said the owner reads these reviews, especially since there isn't any way to contact them OR file a complaint!!! Do not come to this restaurant! My wife and I decided to get a couple of burgers last night. Everything seemed fine until after we paid for our food and waited at the drive thru window. There was no one in the dining room and no one else in the drive thru. We were then forced to listen to vulgar personal conversations between staff members regarding what type of ethnicity the cook likes to sleep with, and if he wanted to he could have one in his bed tonight. We repeatedly heard the term "stupid white girl" We then hear him singing in a mocking redneck voice, "you can take a ride on my big green tractor" once another staff member realized we heard everything he told him to "shut the !@#$ up" . My wife felt threatened and scared and we are paying for this experience? We received our food and left traumatized and angry. My wife and I were so angry and sick to our stomachs we didn't eat the food. I went back today and spoke with the manager and she told me they would be talked to but nothing more. I then asked for the owners number and was told by the manager I was not allowed to have it, but told to make a Facebook post on their page!? I am a picky eater, and I'm telling you, this place is awesome! The fabulous sauce on my burger is good, and strangely, my kids like it too. Be careful, because the chocolate milk shakes are addicting. Which they had a cherry on top, but it's hand made, and so thick. My favorite of the week is a chicken salad with extra tomatoes, (there tomatoes taste real red and rich). It's a clean place, real modern style, family restaurant, and serve you. Their coffee is only $1.00 and it's good, and they have French vanilla creamers. I bring my own equal, but I'm going o talk to management to see if they can provide Equal. I don't have nothing to loose, right. You do if you don't experience the place yourself. I am real happy we have a friendly clean coffee house, cause their is a small middle-age group of us that love to be waited on, and drink coffee and gossip, or just watch a good basketball game. My dad took our whole family to eat here once and, man it was good. The burgers are huge and the patties are really juicy. I didn't really like the lettuce but other than that everything was amazing. Even the fries are dope. They're big and crispy and you get a lot of them with your order. I got the burger with pastrami and man that was so good. The only thing that sucks is that they don't have ranch and the forgot my sister's order. But other than that, so good. read more
