I came in on a Monday for lunch and fortunately they weren't busy. I love that they have a window you can walk up and order from (to-go) and they also have a small dining room. I didn't go in, as it's still freezing this time of year so I placed my order to go and waited in my car. I wish I could order their huge burgers, but I never finish large amounts of food, so I settled on their kids me of a Jr. burger (sauce and pickles - I added cheese) and it comes with fries and a small drink. Portions are huge, even for a kids meal! I loved it! Food is delicious, made to order so it's fresh and staff is friendly, service is quick! read more

Maybe because we went here with friends (that go here frequently), but the service was excellent! Building has a very small indoor seating area with a few both style tables. There are also outdoor tables. The food was good. Just what you'd expect from this type of place- fried golden delicious not the healthiest, but very tasty! Lots of variety in the menu! read more

0 Stars if I could. New management sucks, couple years back was great. Now they have young kids working, most if not all of them. Which itself is not bad but they are definitely not trained. Horrible service. Sent my son to get me a Sunday, came back melted he said he saw it waiting there for 30 minutes before serving, sent him back and he came back with syrup full Sunday and still melted as if they just switched the container and added syrup to mask the other liquids. 0/10 do not recommend unless they fix their crap. Place looks visibly dirty too as if they don't clean AT ALL. Also forgot my fries and gave my sons attitude saying they called it right after they left, as if it shouldn't have been served with all the other food we ordered. They said guy with the piercings looked intoxicated and should not be working food services. read more

Order a crispy chicken salad , you know what ? Instead just order a head of lettuce & cut all the green parts off , wait till it's all white & chunky (insert vomit emoji ). Turn your Open light off at 9:30 on a Saturday night & then don't answer your phone after I call 4x to rectify the order . It's cool I'll just write a review. read more

Needed a quick bite while working Shafter the other day and saw General's so I decided to drop in. It's your typical high school type fast food place with burgers, fries and assorted stuff like chicken strips. The food is really reasonably priced, cheaper than a lot of other places. Staff is very friendly and the food came out quick with no old oil taste or anything unpleasant. Fries were hot and crispy, good ranch and good fried burritos. Been going here for 11 years now and never had a bad experience with the food. The only bad thing would be their bathrooms which are a little messy sometimes. The ambience is also really good and lively. Service wise all the employees are nice and are always attent to costumers. read more

I absolutely love generals for quick bite. There is nothing healthy here, but the food is amazing. Had the chili cheese fries today. It is super tasty and portion size is large. Cost was 5.00. If your looking for occasional guilty pleasure, this is a must if you're in Shafter. read more

I told the worker to tell the employees to wear gloves when they make food because i noticed how they dont use gloves when they cook the food which is super unsanitary and i asked if they can wear gloves and he told me that "they wash their hands" and accusing me of calling them dirty. when in reality, its commen sense to wear gloves when working in fastfood. This is actually so ridiculous. Never again. read more

I don't even go to this place anymore. Once management has left for the day, the employees slack off and are incompetent, rude with no respect or work ethic. The food is not good at all, it's overcooked. It's run by teenagers who clearly don't know what they're doing or don't care. It's time the owner cleans out the staff and hires people who actually care about the success of a business. When the business succeeds, it shows in the employee morale read more

Well, Hells Bells... Another one bits the dust. This place went from delicious to grosses with the mostess... If you like a pound of lard thrown on the grill for your pastrami, big dude wiping down the counters uses the same rag he wipes the top of the lid on the chocolate shake his making for you, if you have gag yet, get ready. I told Ashton three times that I wanted two super burgers plain with no cheese and yet ended up with hamburgers with cheese. They looked smashed and grease was all over the wrappers. The drinks were over flowing and spilling everywhere. Not the service I'm used to. read more

Get anything else but a salad here. The lettuce used in my salad was not fresh. I wonder if they would eat the salad they sold to me because I know damm well they wouldn't. They didn't even bother to cut the tomato, lettuce, and cucumber into portions that would fit in your mouth. Such a disappointment! read more

Flat top burger - score for the Generals. Typical roadside burger stand with indoor and out door seating. I ordered the "Biggie" combo which is a double cheeseburger. Found the burger to be decently seasoned but dripping with a lot of thousand island style dressing. Pretty much overran the burger. The fries were crunchy but a tad cold but well seasoned. Overall a decent bite to eat. read more

I'm sorry to say I won't be going to the Generals Headquarters any longer the food, the service everything has gone down hill everything but the price. The last three I have been my food was cold , I call before going down there I let them know I want the fries hot or I don't want them they assure me they but when I get they are cold. It seems to me the people that work the evening shift are all very young and do not know what they are doing. A few are rude no nothing about dealing with customers, the food is over cooked or cold. when I call an order in I have to hang up and call again at least 3 times because they put me on hold but they forget about me, I suggest the owner get some people in there that actually care about his business. I got a great meal for less than 6 bucks! So I went to Shafter as part of a resolution to be more confident on the road and stopped by and got: nuggets, crinkle fries, and a large soda. The ice was that crystal-like crushed ice and the nuggets were so delicious, I was disappointed when I ate it all. If you ever go through Shafter and need a good meal, go to Generals Headquarters. I think I will some back again in the future if I'm in the area, maybe try the burgers or sandwiches. read more

One of the best options in Shafter, love that I've come here since 1976. Soon to be 50 years. Stars based on location. My go to Pastrami has a bit of variability on meat quality. When it's good they are one of the best, otherwise, a bit rough. The soft serve cones are a go-to. The Boysenberry shakes are double thumbs up. read more

As busy as it can get, the Staff is very professional about everything. It kind of feels like family food. They all seem to work very well together. Very in sync very united. The food is absolutely delicious. The Mugg sisters are soo welcoming. There's a reason why it has lasted for decades here in Shafter and growing. I was driving through Shafter, got a call and had to pull over to follow up. I pulled into the General's Headquarters around 7:00am. I was surprised to see it was open, i went in as I was very hungry. A professional, friendly young lady greeted me. I ordered two 1/4 lb burgers and a coffee. I checked the receipt as the price was about the same you would pay for one burger at most hamburger fast food restaurants, an incredible value! The burgers were fresh, good quality and nostalgic of burgers of a bygone era. No fancy exotic toppings just lettuce and cheese and what you would find on a traditional burger. The lady was attentive, friendly, and I asked if when I finished my meal, if I could get a coffee refill. She waited until I had finished my meal and placed another cup of coffee for the road. Very quaint and friendly, efficient and attentive service, and an exceptional value! read more

I was driving south of Lost Hills and entered "hamburger" into Google . Burger Factory and Generals HQ popped up with General HQ having 4 plus stars on Yelp. The menu looked interesting so I drove east on Lerdo fourteen miles off I-5. It was 5:00 pm and twenty people were outside the modest burger stand. They are really cool people, the staff wore protective equipment. Ok, I asked "What's good"? Six different people recommended the Biggie, Pastrami Burger or the 3/4lb monster if I was starving. I ordered the Biggie with a large fries a feast that filled me up. Burger was perfect, the fties fries were screaming hot. They serve some good looking burritos and tacos as well. It's worth the adventure and drive, I will be back! read more

I've been visiting this restaurant since it was Foster's Freeze, and tonight was the worst service and food I've had from them. First, they seem to have wanted to let the phone ring until I gave up so I couldn't order. Of course I acted like a crazy girlfriend and called right back until they picked up . When we got the food, the girl had serious attitude. I'm not asking for a smile and ass-kissing, but when we ask if the ranch is in the bag "idk, if you ordered it, it's in there" *bitchy face* is not the correct response. ESPECIALLY when we got home and one burger looked like it was put together by a toddler and was missing the onions (included on the RECEIPT). The onion rings were also burnt to a crisp. I guess that's just one less place I can visit in Shafter. read more

We noted how the moment felt like we were on an Iowa highway because we saw expansive fields and experienced a Middle-America atmosphere. I wanted a small stalk of wheat in between my teeth. As we drove, we saw this place and decided that this joint would replace the store we were looking for. At this point I started to listen to Carry on My Wayward Son by Kansas. If you know, you know. As soon as I entered I felt like I had stepped into a diner in the middle of nowhere, the type of spot where brothers talked about saving people, hunting things, you know the family business. My friend Denise did not know what I was talking about and when I tried to introduce the world to her with corny prompts she decided not to play along. Still for a fan the experience was nothing but a win!(chester). I cannot remember the person who helped us but she was a server who reported that she had lived in the surrounding area for most of her life. She was deepening the believe that we were on a route diner neglected by city reality. During this visit, I had fried okra for the first time in my life. It was weird to taste but not in a bad way. More like I had never tasted this texture before in my life. The texture that I had not tried before in my life was a gooey vegetable. Like the texture of the outside was exactly as advertised--- fried goodness. The actual okra was the gooey part. I do not want to sound crass, truly, I do not, but it did feel like enjoying something slimy, and I will leave it at that. Again, not wrong, just weird But I will not get it again. The server- the homegrown one- gave us fried pickles and these were much more to taste. Like, I i have had fried pickles before and I loved them but I had some that were not for me. But these, these, were pickle spears fried to brown goodness, and the mixture hit green- which does not mean go, more like Hulk enjoys, instead of smashes. It was a simple dish yes- green spear pickle fried but sometimes the goodness of a county fair is exactly what a roadtrip snack should be. The fair came to my table and I am not mad at that. I am not sure if onion baguette is a middle-of-nowhere bread, but, I allowed it because the taste of the bread was, like tailored made for me, I am a sucker for onion, and not just because it gives me sexy breath. The food was standard, solid fare. Everything was just good nothing wrong with it, all good with it. The sauces were tasty, and added smoky sweet flavor that was welcomed. So this elevated the dish by addding a hickory taste. It did not save the dishes, but did make them better. The decorations were texas heavy. I should have taken more pictures. But sometimes the imagination allows for a space to feel more than at it is.

If you go for brunch on Saturday definitely get there early as they fill up fast and don't take reservations. As the place fills up the noise does escalate. But it's a happy fun atmosphere. We all had the breakfast smash burgers which were juicy and delicious! We ordered a side of the Green Dukkah Fries, Yum Yum! I had the Lime & Lechee cocktail, my friends had sparkling wine & red wine. Everything was scrumptious! As always a fun place to go for fine cocktails & good grub!

Our server Jasmine was so attentive and sweet and made sure we had what we needed. Monique was also so kind and checked in on us frequently.
