My catalytic converter was stolen in the parking lot, when I was waiting for repairs on my display dashboard. Got a call from a Carlson Toyota rep saying they weren't going to repair it for free, and could give me a quote. The parking lot doesn't have cameras so we can't find out who did it. Either way don't take you car here if you want the repairs to take 5 days, and have your catylitic converter stolen in the parking lot :) if you also want the service managers to talk to your chest this is the place for you. They will treat you like you don't know what's wrong with your car garunteed the service managers are terrible perverts who will not only try to molest you but also your car. read more

Where do I begin? The sale person Sara was terrible at her job. She made my husband wait over an hour to do who knows what even though he had sent the paperwork far in advance. She had NO IDEA what was going on half the time. She told him (mid-trip to driving seven hours there to get the car) that they could no longer sell the car (even though they could and did). The finance manager was also terrible and surly, too. We had to repeatedly call them to A. fix our taxes on the deal (they charged us double AND then charged more taxes to our credit card), B. finish the paperwork, C. send us the Kindle that we PAID FOR and was in the contract, D. finish the process so we could get our plates... Which we still don't have and now the temporary sticker has expired. Honestly, it was the worst experience my husband has ever had buying a car. Do I recommend them to anyone? No, not even my enemies deserve that sort of treatment. read more

I'd recommend that you secure your financing in advance, if possible and RUN from the in house financing, if possible. I have been a very loyal customer at Carlson Toyota for over 20 years. Their service has been wonderful. When I want to purchase a vehicle, they find what I'm looking for. This past year (2021), I was shopping for a Toyota Highlander. As always, I had specific details about features that I want. They always came through for me over the past 20+ years. This past summer, I was shopping for a Highlander, and the Highlander that I wanted was just not showing up on their lot. They did not wish to make any extra effort to help find what I wanted. To my surprise, it was indicated to me that I "can shop elsewhere". I have saved my communications in a file, so I can verify all of this. So, after searching, I found exactly what I wanted at another dealership. It was a Walzer VW Dealer. I contacted Carlson Toyota about giving me "the tour" of my newer vehicle, because, honestly, the VW dealer just does not know as much about Toyota products as those at a Toyota dealer would know. In an email, the manager declined to have one of her staff give me the requested tour, saying "Our salesperson is not paid to do spend time with a customer for a vehicle that was purchased at another dealership." The email that I received also was perceived as scolding me for not purchasing at Carlson Toyota. And THEY are the ones who indicated that I can shop elsewhere. But, it IS a TOYOTA product! So, they should honor that, and educate me on what features I have on my Highlander. I'm very disappointed in this attitude that was expressed towards me, after all the kindness I have received from the folks at Carlson over all these years. I have always rated Carlson Toyota's service as TOP NOTCH. I first went to Carlson 21+ years ago, after hearing a report on KARE-11 TV that they were rated as one of the best service centers in the Twin Cites. But, after reviewing my communication with the manager a few months ago, I'm thinking that if they refuse to acquaint me with my newer vehicle, then maybe they no longer want me as a loyal customer for maintenance work either. A recent email inquiry to her was never answered. Maybe I'll go to Walzer. I'm open to further discussion with the manager, but I would expect that if they wish to keep me as a long standing, loyal and faithful customer, then they will provide me a helpful tour as a new owner of my TOYOTA HIGHLANDER. We went down to purchase a car and had a good experience. We knew what we were looking for when we arrived, making the process much smoother. The sell wasn't very pushy - but again, we knew what we wanted and it was obvious we were there to buy. No issues getting going on the test drive - just brought the keys and we were on our way. The loan application was pretty smooth and they were very friendly, kept coming out to make sure we knew where in the process they were and what to expect. Overall, from the time we arrived, to when we drove off the lot was pretty quick (2 hrs). Not much complaints here. The price was a bit different from the internet cost - which we expected (draw you in with one cost, and then tell you why you can't have it), but it was only a few hundred dollars difference, not thousands. My Salesman was fantastic. Bought in April and still have not received my License Plates and found that 2 of my rims are bent and unfixable. Spoke to GM Kerry or Carry or Kerrie or Carrie. She told me that since I did not bring the vehicle back to Toyota to look at the issue the first time that there is nothing they can do and that is has been almost 2 months - well, it has and I still don't have my plates because of a lien release issue. So, tick for tat? Not even a "bring it by so we can look at it" She said she would check on my plates and call back. That has been over 4 hrs. Very disappointing. read more

I was told not to come to my scheduled appointment on the morning of the appointment by the service manager. I asked whether the dealership had any procedures in place to protect staff and customers from COVID19. This employee evidently assumed that I was ill, although I was not at any point from calling to make the appointment to this moment. Several calls were exchanged with the service manager and the customer relations manager before I was told that this miscommunication was the problem. The customer service manager did not offer to remake an appointment or to assist me in any way. He seemed more intent on telling me why he was right and not allowing me to get a word in, until I finally had to raise my voice to interrupt him. I did not threaten or swear at any of these employees. However, I have spent way too much time on this, and my car hasn't been serviced. I am looking for a new dealership, which means going far from home. I don't criticize lightly, but this was an unhelpful and frustrating experience. read more

Bought my wife a rav 4 limited. Our sales person Adam was awesome. The accessories department is a joke. They attempted to defraud us on a sound barrier undercoating. Showed up to take delivery I discovered sound barrier was not on. After about ten minutes of arguing and me having to get under other cars in their lot to compare just to prove my point I was right. The accessories person Joel disappeared and came back ten minutes later with a sheet of paper stating it had been performed. They took the money off for the sound barrier and auto armor. I did call PNL the next day and they did email me the paperwork and they were never instructed by this dealer to do a sound barrier but they were ready to charge me for it. I have requested a call by the owner and still no call. I will be writing the states attorney generals office requesting all customers are notified of potential fraud and also will be contacting the BBB of Minnesota when time permits. I hate seeing innocent people being taken advantage of. read more

"Very disappointing experience. My son, who's in the Army, came home on leave to purchase his first vehicle before reporting to his first duty station in Alaska. We did a lot of searching to find the right vehicle with 4 wheel drive, heated seats, good working heater and low miles etc. Found a 2014 Jeep Patriot here. When we went to pick the car up and finish paperwork, thought to check the heater. Being the middle of summer, I forgot to check it the first time. It wasn't working. After lots of pressure, they agreed to look at it and told me to go ahead and complete the purchase that for sure they'd cover it if something was wrong. The blend door wasn't working. They said they would order the part and call us when it came in. They never called and frankly we forgot. My son took off to drive the car 1200 miles to drop it off for shipment to Alaska. 900 miles into the trip, he broke down. The electric throttle had a problem. His dad drove 3.5 hours to meet him and get him home having to leave the car. A week later. The car is fixed, but this dealership will only cover the blend door (begrudgingly at that). I understand we didn't purchase the ridiculous extended warranty that would have made the car payment unaffordable for my son. He has savings and we can afford to pay for repairs. That's not the point. The point is taking care of this is the right thing to do. This was his first car buying experience. In fact, we just purchased 2 cars and my husband is currently looking for a new car. This is a kid who committed to serving our country, serving YOU. You have made his leave absolutely miserable, leaving him without a working car and just another huge stress while trying to report for duty in Alaska. Now they have to find a way to get back to Wichita to pick up the car and get it to Dallas. Taking care of this and creating a customer(s) for life was/is the right thing to do. You all (Ryan and Teri)should have done it. You all should've realized that value. And you all should be ashamed of yourselves considering the sacrifice he has made for you all. I have been going to Carlson Toyota since it opened. I call, make an appointment and they have always provided me great service at a decent price. The last time I called, I was put on hold for an unacceptable amount of time, only to be told that both service writers I have always used are no longer employed there, and the service manager who I followed over from Main Motors was also no longer there. I was willing to accept the rise in prices and even the loss of my favorite mechanic but it is obvious that the owner's wife has no clue how to run a business and the environment is absolutely grim. I have just bought my dream car yesterday. A gorgeous black, 2010 Toyota Prius with all of the gadgets, and leather seats. I got so lucky not only to come across this car, but also for getting the chance to work with Tim Froemming. He was straight to the point with me, giving his honest opinions, and when interested in starting the buying process he took my trade in for more than I thought was possible, and overall just gave me a great deal. Being a 23 year old female, going to look at cars myself I often found people taking advantage of me and in no way did Tim do that to me. 2016 Sequoia Platinum certified used, 1st salesperson added on a front 3m protection sheet I did not ask for. 2nd they installed it and it rippled, but I was told just wait a few days it will be fine NOPE! 3rd I called my salesperson twice to get things set up he NEVER called back, I actually asked if he was in, yep he was. Had to talk to the sales manager to get anything done. 4th called for the oil change that is supposed to be covered, first response was not "Let me look that up" it was "Oh no... those aren't covered" till he looked, "oh yes it is." Bought a used VW Jetta for $4K from Luther the guy has called me 4 times, ensured everything was perfect with the car, and just bent over backwards... I took a 14k loss on my car just to sell it and get rid of it that way I never had to waste time going back and forth to this place again. I'm in sales and this is not how you treat people. Carlson listed the 2010 Prius I bought as a 2012 online, and even listed an incorrect VIN to go with it. But the photo matched the car I test drove, and the price was so amazing (for a 2012) that I bought it without waiting. (I admit that the papers I signed all said 2010, and that's my error - after a long day, my attention to detail wasn't at its best.) When I realized the mistake, I called right away and tried to negotiate some kind of make-up with the sales manager. But after a couple of rounds of what felt like productive conversations, he stopped returning my calls. That was two months, and a dozen unreturned calls ago. So I'm left having paid more than I would have, and feeling pretty bitter about my bait-and-switch experience with Carlson. Horrible service and repair on my Sienna. Went in for recall and they said I had corrosion on my battery and I offer to clean it. I paid for the battery clean up but it was never done because a few days later my battery died and I went to Autozone and they found battery acid all over my engine. How can a dealership be so crooked and dishonest? My sliding doors that I took into get recall fix was never fix amd has been acting up since then. PLEASE DO NOT GET YOUR CAR SERVICE THERE. Needed to unload our 2 Toyotas (2001 Avalon and 2006 Sienna) for a couple of 4wd Rav4's. I showed up here without an appointment because the splash guard was falling off the bottom of my car. I was immediately taken by the beautiful building and awesome atmosphere they have in the showroom and waiting area. It looked all classic, yet futuristic, in architecture, like the buildings in Gattaca. Big screen TVs, comfy couches, free cookies, and Caribou Coffee! It makes the Toyota dealer I usually go to look like a used car lot. I was hoping it would take them a while to fix my problem just so I could sit around and feel pampered, but no. About 20 minutes later my car was fixed -- they took off the piece that was broken and didn't charge me a dime (rather than attaching a replacement piece without asking, which would have cost several hundred dollars, and which wasn't really necessary). Ended up trading in for a so called upgraded package only to find out I sacrificed a lot of accessories for pretty wheels, My 2012 tundra was a hell of a lot better truck than this new 2019. This place is a joke, the managers are as incompetent as their employees. My wife took her car in for service and explained what is wrong with it. They "could not recreate the issue" in one hour, which we told them it only happens after 24 hours. It took me asking 4 times what they would do next for the service writer to say "make another appointment to drop it off." The services writer hung up on me and yelled at her. She left crying. I contacted the GM, who apparently pawned the issue off on Scott the Customer Relations Manager(Carlson should probably reconsider is fit for this position) and he offered no apology for the way his employee acted. They don't care about customers after they sell a car. STAY FAR AWAY! I wish I would have read the negative reviews before purchasing from them! read more

I had the very best car buying experience EVER with Jihan Moore and Paul Kunz at Carlson. I walked in with no expectations at all other than a vehicle I saw online. Jihan was great-she took my phone call and answered my questions. I met her at Carlson to see the car and I loved everything about the process. Jihan is knowledgable and fun. Paul took care of my financing-he is also great. Jihan even drove my other car home for me. I just took my car to Carlson to have my clear coat applied and to get my remote locks. The service department is awesome. Run (don't walk...you can skip, I guess) to Carlson next time you need to purchase a car. Or get your oil changed. Not all salespeople are created equal. My wife and I were reluctantly in the market for a minivan. We were put into contact with Tim Froemming through our bank since Carlson was one of their preferred Toyota dealers. We worked with Tim for over a week and he kept us up to speed via text and email regarding the vehicle we were interested in. In the end we took a dramatically different approach regarding the vehicle we decided to purchase, but given all of the downer reviews of some salespeople I thought I'd give a quick shout out to Tim and recommend him if you are looking for someone to work with at Carlson. read more

Beyond disappointed with the customer service at Carlson. I had been talking with a salesman for around a week about a specific vehicle. We had scheduled on Tuesday to meet at 1:00 on Thursday for a test drive. I let him know I had all the cash in hand for the vehicle and was going to purchase it after a test drive. Thursday came around and he called me at 12:30 asking if I was still coming to look at the vehicle, I said I was on my way and would be there in about 35 minutes. When i was 10 minutes away I got a call from him saying that someone else was interested and he let them test drive it. When I arrived he was mysteriously unavailable and said another salesman would help. The new salesman was extremely unprofessional and didn't say more than a few words. I Did not receive a call back for 4 hours after leaving. I Will definitely not go back and was extremely unimpressed with the whole experience. read more

I left on a medical disability and sought out different employment when I was well enough to go back to work for many reasons. However I have spent over 100k purchasing vehicles from Carlson Toyota and was told today that I was no longer welcome to have my vehicle serviced here as I quit my job. Are you kidding me?? And these are my sevices that I have already paid for when I purchased my brand new truck. The GM is such a narcissist that his EGO could not handle me not wanting to work for him? I recently purchased a certified preowned 2018 Toyota Highlander from Carlson Toyota. On the day of purchase, I spent 1 hour waiting because the dealership lost the keys. After finding 1 key in another vehicle they gave me an "I owe you" letter from management to come in for a 2nd key. When I got home, I noticed a large dent on the SUV's tailgate. After speaking with the manager Carrie Haugerud she said that if a dent was found in the photos Carlson would be responsible for damages as this is a certified vehicle and should have been disclosed. A few days later she replies with no dent found in photos, unable to cover costs. I requested the dealership photos where I compared my photos and you can clearly see the dent. Now Carrie Haugerud is not responding to the emails of photos I provided. This dealership should be avoided at all cost as they can't hold up to promises. Its approximately a $600 fix on a $30,000 vehicle. It's not asking a lot! I have purchased my last two vehicles from them and will never again. read more

Went to Carlson Toyota because they were the referred dealership through my online employee program. What a disaster that turned out to be! First sign to turn and run was when they realized we had the savings certificate and wanted to take back money from our trade-in to compensate themselves for the 'added savings' of the certificate. After a very long afternoon of waiting on sales manager approvals, we arrived at an agreed upon price and made our way to the Finance office. Everything was smooth in the Finance office and we were holding plates for the car when the sales rep came in and said we had not bought the car with the options we had been led to believe we had bought. We were told that to get the features we had been sold on, we needed to pay substantially more for the car. When we questioned the ethics of this, they said they would check on things with their general manager in the morning and call us back. By now we had been there almost 6 hours and were going home empty handed at closing time. Since it was the end of their day, they thought we could drive the 45 miles back the following Monday to resume the conversation rather than resolve then and there. It took 3 phone calls and leaving voice messages the next business day to finally get someone on the phone at the end of the day to respond to what they were going to do to make the situation right. Apparently, they did not see anything wrong with the 'bait and switch' actions of the previous day. Needless to say, we did not agree to pay more money for the car and found our way to another dealership where our trade in was valued very fairly, the price presented for the car included all options expected, and the price quoted was in the range of the original price quoted through the employee price certificate we had originally presented at Carlson. If you are thinking of buying a car, I recommend you find another dealer to work with. I have bought several new cars over the years and never had an experience as bad as this. Based on my experience, I believe Carlson Toyota follows deceptive business practices. Their Sales Manager and their General Manager could have honored the commitment they had made to us when we signed the paperwork but ultimately chose not to. They cost us an entire Saturday afternoon, pulled our credit unnecessarily since they wouldn't honor the deal they made, and cost us incentive dollars through Toyota that expired the end of that day. These guys give car dealerships a bad name. There are too many reputable places to go to waste your time or money here. read more

If you want a great example of how a car dealership can make themselves lose a sale, read on. My fiance and I went into Carlson Toyota looking to buy a Toyota Sequoia before the holidays. We starting working with a sales representative and test drove a sequoia and were ready to buy. Our sales rep convinced us that it may make more sense for us to lease instead of financing a portion of the purchase price which is what we were planning on doing. Both my fiance and I had never before wanted to do a lease because we always thought it ended up being very pricey and not worth it for your money. That being said, our sales rep was adamant that it was a good deal and we should look into it. He even quoted us how much it would be and we were shocked by how low the payment was. It was so low that we both told him we were surprised and asked him if that could possibly be right. He said it was. Well, the price was too good to pass up, so we started the paperwork. However, as soon as he started putting things into the computer and came back with the details for us, the lease cost had somehow doubled. We asked why that was and he couldn't explain to us so he got one of the finance managers to speak to us. She brought us into her office and was incredibly condescending. She started speaking to us as though we did not understand how a lease worked. She also told us that we couldn't expect to calculate how much we thought the lease would cost on our own and get upset when it didn't match what they quoted. We tried to explain that our sales rep was the one who had told us the wrong number initially which was why were confused and trying to understand and she brought in another person who also condescended to us and talked down to us as though we were babies who did not understand how a lease worked. The icing on the cake was when she asked us if we would be willing to look at another cheaper car so that we could afford the payments. Well, here's the deal, we could have afforded the car we were looking at whether we did it as a lease or not. We just were trying to understand why we were quoted one number and then it doubled. She should not have assumed that we couldn't afford it and we were incredibly offended. We walked out and went and bought the exact same car at a different dealership the next week. Carlson Toyota made the biggest mistake that you can make in the sales industry - assuming that they know what a customer can afford without asking them. That combined with blaming us for a misunderstanding caused by their very own sales rep was enough to sour us on Carlson Toyota forever. Perhaps we just happened to encounter three of the worst employees at Carlson, but seeing that we only spoke with three people and they either didn't know what they were talking about or made us feel as though we were not customers that they wanted, we were not impressed. I would recommend going to another Toyota dealership over this one to anyone. read more
