I wanted to share our experience. Our suv had service here, the wheel fell of mid driving awhile later. Being told possible over tork or cross thread. Initially told they couldn't do anything about it. Then finally got them to put in an insurance claim. Now I'm being ghosted by pep boys claims department. It's been two weeks since inspection and claim being reviewed by mgmt, no word yet. SUV has been sitting for over a month and a half and no one seems to care enough to respond or give an eta even after considerable efforts on my part to try and get an idea of next steps or how long it takes. read more

As someone with prior customer service experience I am always extremely patient with anyone in a customer facing position. Still, Pep Boys has a special way of getting under my skin which is such a bummer! Because this shop is huge and close to where I live it comes to mind first when I need air in my tires, car inspections, or other quick service that can't wait. What I can't understand is why I keep going back when the service is so disappointing. The other day we were planning on going for a drive and realized my boyfriend needed an oil change. We didn't want to drive a ton before changing the oil so we stopped into Pep Boys to see if they could help. We spent 5 minutes standing in front of the guy behind the service desk staring at him before he acknowledged us. Then, once he started helping us he didn't seem to know what he was talking about and suggested the wrong type of oil. Finally, in the middle of talking to us he took a phone call. Needless to say we walked out and won't be returning. I gave two stars because they did put air in my tires and get my Lyft inspection done quickly on a separate occasion. I just can't get over how I always feel like an inconvenience as a customer even when I don't need anything that requires much work on their end. I really hope that eventually Pep Boys becomes a place people feel comfortable and welcome walking into. read more

Possibly the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I dropped off my car at 1:30 in the afternoon and they said it might be around 2 hours for a wait and offered to drop me off at my house and pick me up when the car was repaired(simple brake job) after 3 hours I called to ask for an update and was told that they haven't even started and were waiting for my approval to go ahead with the repairs after no contact the entire time. The manager proceeds to tell me they quoted me a price that was $400 less than what the actual total would be and they need to do another $400 repair for safety reasons, no apologies for never contacting me or getting the repair started while I waited longer than the time they told me it would be repaired. No offer for a discount on service just a larger bill than originally quoted because "a newer employee was helping you" except after that employee(Tim) entered my info he then asked the manager to look it over and make sure everything was correct. I work in customer service and if a employee underquoted a customer by 40% of the actual cost I would either eat that mistake or work with the customer to find a number we can both work with. I ended up telling them to just put the car back together and I would take my business elsewhere so they offered to buy me a ride through Lyft to come pick it up they proceeded to give the Lyft driver a wrong address and the driver cancelled my ride so I paid for my own ride to the shop to pick up my vehicle and on my drive home noticed there was a very audible grinding noise happening that wasn't there when I dropped it off I would have brought it back to try and get rid of it but we have seen how poor their operation runs and will just figure it out with another shop. read more

So I made an appointment to get an oil change and to get my blinker light changed and after I left my appointment my car started to make this really loud noise almost like I have a hole on my muffler and when I went back they said there is nothing they did wrong so there is nothing they will do... this is my first time getting work done with them besides tires and let me tell you it will be the last. Now I know why everyone says to NOT go there. Terrible place , terrible workers and terrible service. read more

So I made an appointment the night before for one hour after they opened on Sunday to get tires. I arrived on time and when I got there I was told that a technician didn't arrive and I would have to now leave my car for the whole day to get new tires. Needless to say I was not happy and asked why I wasn't called or emailed. He had no excuse or literally anything to say. It wasn't until the third time on my way out the door and made an appointment at NTB to get this done today. He said "I didn't have your phone number". Which I immediately challenged as the website requires a phone number. These guys don't know what an appointment is so I wouldn't recommend. read more

Very disappointed. I simply asked to have my battery checked to see if it needed replacing. I was told I couldn't be seen until 2pm when I was there at 9am. That's acceptable as they had only one tech. However, they then said to the next guy behind me to just pull his vehicle around to get his check engine light looked at. I've had my battery checked, it takes a minute, tops but to have the next guy get better treatment than me? Ridiculous. Don't worry, Interstate had me checked and out the door with a new battery in less than a half hour. read more

I sent my wife into the Coon Rapids MN store on Saturday DEC 5 for a great deal I found online for new tires on sons truck. They swapped tires, then came the hard sell for additional service. They said the water pump was "falling off". She said ok change it plus do an oil change at a really high price near $800. (The water pump was changed 60,000 miles ago using my regular mechanic at a cost of $350.) When she reached me by phone I said no way. She called them back and said do not do the water pump. The service writer was upset with her and very insistent that the vehicle would not last 30 miles without a tow due to the water pump, but my son drove it anyways. He met up with me that day, I checked under the hood that the engine was running normally, and that the fan/water pump were on tight and coolant was full. Fifteen miles later he called me and said his oil light came on and engine quit. I went to him and looked under the hood, the car was out of oil. This is odd, because my son does a good job of watching and changing his oil. I had it towed to my mechanic - he said no water pump issues, but the engine died from being out of oil. Coincidence?.....We have had this truck for 10 years, and now after a confrontational service appointment for tires, we have a dead truck, and a credit card bill for $455.00 - So I have written e-mails to 2 executives of Pep Boys, and the customer service department since that time, and have gotten 0 followup. read more

Thank God I would never go to pep boys first service they don't know what they're doing their amateurs go to the dealer you might pay a little more for the services elevated high quality pep boys is rubbish and garbage thank God I turned a couple people around you going to the dealerships and don't waste their time to pep boys pep boys mechanics well screw your car up they rip you off the rubbish garbage. I've learned my lesson and I will never waste my time a pep boys again the dealership is the right way to go and you don't pay much difference in the services high quality get a rental car you don't got sitting in pep boys and for hours screw pep boys rubbish trash. I will continue to tell people never raise their time with pep boys it's garbage always go to the dealer. DO NOT GO HERE. They are lying about a double charge I received here and are saying they were two separate transactions. They refuse to give me my money back even though their incompetent worker rang me up and said my charge didn't go through. He then had me rerun my transaction. When I looked at my bank account I was charged twice. When I returned to Pepboys they told me they couldn't do anything and I had to go through my bank. They know that I was charged twice within minutes for an identical amount of money but are claiming these are two separate transactions. They are either running a scam or they are ridiculously incompetent. Either way. Avoid them like the plague. read more

Woke up this morning - dead battery. It's been coming for a long time . . . I've just put off getting a new one. . . . got my car started with a jump and headed to Pep Boys without an appointment. Went inside and told them I need a battery and asked if they could fit me in right now. Yes, they could replace my battery right then, I then asked them to replace a headlight and fog light as well, since, in order to replace the driver's side lights, the battery would have to be removed anyway . . . no problem. Forty minutes later I was out of there. Everyone was very friendly. So far a good experience. If I have any issues with the battery or lights I will update the review. read more

Bought a battery from Pep boys, they had a great price and "free" installation. With the price and free installation I didn't mind driving the 60 miles from my home. During battery installation Manager contacted me saying it would be $50 for battery installation because my battery was mounted in trunk (Chrysler 300). I stated that installation was even easier than one mounted under hood and would be glad to show him. He then stated that he knew that, but in some cars with rear mount batteries (mentioned Jaguars) installation was difficult as it's hard to get at. I don't have a Jag, my installation is very easy to get at and would show him, at that point he said something like - Well, thats the service dept for ya. Took it home and installed it in 10 minutes (and I'm no mechanic). Still got a great price and would buy it again, I'm just not going to count on "free" services. read more

This is probably the worst experience we have ever had with any of our vehicles. Scheduled an appointment two days in advance for new tires, was told our trucks tires were in stock. Dropped our truck off for our appointment, hung around Coon rapids for two hours while the new tires were installed. Two hours after our appointment time we received a call that our tires were actual not in stock. When asked why they didn't tell us this when we dropped our truck off at the appointment time they simply said "I don't know". We ordered the tires with a discount and scheduled a new appointment two weeks later. After installation they said we needed an alignment (standard) so we paid for that. When we picked up our truck the steering wheel was not centered. We called and they told us to drop it off in the morning. After they had our vehicle for three hours we called them and they said their "master tech" could not figure it out and we'd have to wait for their mechanic to be in to fix their own mistake. Needless to say, we asked for our money back because we don't want incompetent people working on our vehicle. If you can't tell already, I would never recommend this place for any vehicle service... maybe just buy your air fresheners here because that's all they're good for. read more

I stopped in yesterday on my way home from work to grab some rotors - was taken care of right away - very nice sales lady (5 stars). Headed home and my son calls saying he has a flat and was at work. I grabbed his tire and went back to Pep Boys.. I went to the service desk and asked this girl if they repaired tires - she said she didn't know as she just started - the service manager gal was not very polite, ignored me for 20 minutes - it's just a simple question for gosh sakes - yet she stopped what she was doing and answered questions from people that came in after I was standing there.... This PepBoys also has service bays in case you need someone else to do the work for you. We are regulars here as it is very close to many other places we frequent. They have a sizable selection of "personalization" items for your car, like steering wheel covers, stickers, pin striping and other such items. We have also been able to find just about everything we need for most of our cars and other parts for getting creative with something if the part doesn't exists. I would definitely stop here if you have auto needs. read more

I couldn't find a listing specifically for the AVIS within this location so I figure I would post here. We were visiting family and had to rent a car to drive back to CA. We had some issues with the reservation and then the car but the gentleman, Yosef I believe, was SO extremely helpful even my Dad was impressed.... which doesn't happy very often. TERRIBLE DISHONEST SERVICE. I had a friday afternoon appointment for two new tires to be put on, when I showed up 5 minutes early they told me they would not be able to get to me but if I left my car there they MIGHT be able to get to it by Monday. I just left and called back Monday and was able to get an appointment for the next day. The next day they checked me in and told me it would be about 45 minutes. I needed a high beam head light put in as well which I had on the front seat so I asked the guy if they could install it. He told me that depending on my vehicle model they might have to take the front bumper off to access it. That seemed strange so I asked him if he would mind just checking and if it was easy just to install it and I would pay extra. I went to a two hour movie and came back expecting it to be done but they hadn't even started it yet. So I waited and reminded the guy at the front to please see if they could install the head light. When they finally finished up I asked them if they were able to put the light bulb in and the man checking me out looked me right in the face and told me they weren't able to. He said this was the model that Required the front bumper to be removed to access the headlight housing. This was a lie as I went home and just popped my hood thinking just maybe I could somehow squeeze my hand in to access it. It was incredibly easy to change the bulb and took me about a minute to do so. In retrospect I guess I got out of paying extra for something I could do easily, but the fact that they flat out lied about it, or at the very least lied about checking if they could do it, is unacceptable. read more

I have never been treated with such disrespect! Me and my girl were having a nice day getting our nails done when the unthinkable happened... OUR BRAKE LINE WAS SLASHED! Being the quick thinkers we are we called all the nearest auto repair shops. The minute we walked in we were judged! Nobody took us seriously or even took our advice to simple tape it up! They then told us it was unsafe to drive, but they couldn't do anything today! We were then sent on our way into a DEATH TRAP! My brakes were soft. Would go to the floor when sitting at a stop sign. The first time they replaced $700 with the parts. Sent me on my way. Call back the next day still doing the same thing, they needed the truck overnight replace the master cylinder. Still doing the same thing! Call them again fifth day, manager says he would like to look at it again! I've Advised him is he replacing every part because eventually he will fix it. I rarely post customer reviews, but my experience was awful. The three men at the front desk managed to lose clearly had no interest in helping me. The man who worked with me was disheveled, apathetic to assisting me, and his overall customer service was just awful. I felt that two and a half hours was a bit too long for tire installation and an oil change so I asked for a status update on my car and the second gentleman (who was always snacking or drinking a soda each time I looked up at the front desk) managed to lose my paperwork. Had I not asked for a status update I would have remained sitting in the waiting room. This does not surprise me as I was simply a customer sitting in the waiting room based on how I was treated. I wish Yelp offered zero stars. I called Saturday morning to see if they would be able to turn my rotors the same day. I was told they would be able to so I dropped them off with 8 hours left in the day to have them finished. I call them around 4:00 to see if they were finished and they weren't but I was told the mechanic was trying to get to them next. I stopped in 15 minutes before closing and they gave me a ton of excuses why they didn't get them done and because they were so busy and offered no apology. I was assured that they would be started at 9:00 the next morning. They called at 11:00 and told me their machine wasn't big enough to do the job. I drive an Ford F25 which is a popular vehicle especially in my part of the country. Either they don't know how to use the machine or the are completely incompetent and really don't know that the rotors for a popular vehicle don't fit on their lathe. Again I was offered excuses and no apology. When I picked them up the service guy didn't say much to me and again offered no apology. The rotors had some kind grease all over them also. This place is a mess paperwork and other crap all over the counter spread all over. Not surprising they can't get things done when they aren't even somewhat organized. Called this location in a pinch to mount some tires for me. Location stated they could take care of me no problem. Quoted me a price that was easily $30 over any other shop but since I was in a pinch I figured I would deal with it. Came into the store roughly 10 am. Store had three guys or so working the counter and a young child probably no older than five. I gave the employee my number and for some reason my wife's name came up in their system. (Not a big deal at all but I add this because they later say they never had my number.) I signed an auth form to do the work. I then unload my tires and new rims in their garage. I was told the mech would be in at noon and knock the job out. I proceeded to make some purchases at the location for my vehicle and go home to do the other work. About four in the afternoon I decide to call and check on the status and the employee said "my mechanic never showed up but I can probably have them done tomorrow" -- I understand things go south. However, with a little more focus on the job, less goofing around, and possibly a babysitter (assuming the employees child was with him at work which I also understand things happen) we could have had some better communication and I could have arranged for another business to help. Instead, I took my daily driver down assuming I could get my secondary vehicles tires on. Now it's five on a Sunday, both my vehicles are in the air unable to drive. Sincerely pissed. Notables-- untucked shirts, pants hanging below waist as if a belt wasn't an option, organization and professionalism is not in the realm. If you're going to have a slack day make sure it isnt a day that someone might leave a review and make sure it isn't on a day your customer is depending on a job to be done. read more

We had are car towed there on Sunday,it had a bad alternator and were going to test it, but the battery was bad,so I pick it up Sunday night and brought back a new one Monday morning so the could check the system ,stopped back in to pick it up that afternoon and the never even touched it,never even ordered the part. So we have to rent a car,and spend another day running and burning more gas. This is the second time this has happened to me this year,so don't count on them,you will get hosed some way or another. Not a happy camper at all. Not even two weeks ago, I had brought my car in for an oil leak (which was last touched & changed by pep boys themselves, so I figured they'd pin point the reasoning as to why pretty fast.) and got a call stating that my radiator was cracked & that I needed a new one- so $1400 later my car was supposedly "fixed", yet still nothing found with an oil leak? Well, two weeks later we are back again!!!! This time, I spoke on the phone to Marshall and got scheduled for this past Saturday (12/15) at 10am. Showed up at 9:30am to let them get a head start on looking at my OIL leak, and to hopefully get out in an earlier time. I was then told that I never actually had a scheduled appointment & the service guy that was very nice & helpful had no idea about me even coming- and mentioned that they were busy all day long & the soonest they could fit me in would be Monday (12/17). From going in with an OIL leak, all of a sudden now my valve cover is cracked, my head gasket is leaking and also my oil pan gasket needs replacement. It's been 2 days and I STILL haven't gotten my car back. I am beyond frustrated! read more

Today I went to this Pep-Boys to get a tire replaced. I had been to this store before several times. I was greeted, the service writer let me know the cost, and said it should only be 20 minutes. After 30 minutes I walked back in the shop to notice the car still on a lift and all tires are still on it. I asked the guy that appeared to be assigned to my car (mainly because he seemed to be wandering aimlessly) how much longer it might be. His reply was "Sorry, parts haven't brought the tire up yet, they must be backed up." I waited another 30 minutes, now an hour in to this "20 minute" service I ask to speak to the manager. He points at the one person now dealing with a line of 4 people. When I finally get to him I ask him what is going on with this? Why is this taking so long to get the part? He left and got the tire himself, and gave it to the technician. Another 45 minutes later he finally told me the car was ready. In all I checked the car in at 4:11 PM and finally got it back around 5:45 PM. Going somewhere else next time. read more
