Dragged up here again by the aul ball and chain. She seems to love this place and I can see her point. Nice staff, nice setup and nice food. Not exactly cheap, as I went there for lunch and it cost me 55 quid for a shared starter and 2 mains, but apart from the price, I had a good time. The starter (deluxe something something) was so impressive, that the people beside us egged me on to take a photo. Little did they know that they were talking to a yelp celebrity, who has over 6 followers. The power has gone to my head at this stage. We had such a great meal at Carluccios. Absolutely spectacular. From the gluten free bruschetta to the gluten free pasta (Luganica, in a sausage sauce, Carbonara, and a special with zucchini in a white wine sauce), it was pretty close to perfect. We never finish all of our meals (we love leftovers), and all three of us cleaned our plates. Add to that the fantastic dessert of panacotta, and it was one of the best. Not to be outdone, the wait staff was extremely attentive, and run amazingly well by Eliza, who appeared to be the upstairs leader. She was constantly on top of everything, and always with a smile. She made the upstairs function with precision, and it was a very busy night. All around, a 5 star night. read more

Hands down the best Italian food in Dublin. Their warm goat cheese salad has been on mind since I left. Can get a little crowded at times when it's full because it's a small restaurant but they're doing things right in the kitchen, where it truly counts. Very good takeout food as well. I had been avoiding Carluccio's as an option for a nice evening meal because it looks like a chain (it is) and I'm a snob. But what was I expecting? McPasta? The food here is fantastic - simple Italian dishes full of flavour and no fuss. Order the sea bass just for the tomato salad it's served with; and then have the affogato for desert. It's just vanilla ice cream with an espresso poured over the top (Amaretto optional), but apparently it was good enough that I was talking about it in my sleep the following week. It's more than a year later and I still dream of my meals at Carluccio's. I visited this restaurant 3 times during the week I spent in Dublin in June 2013 and have raved about it ever since. It's a small place, but the dining room upstairs is pleasant and airy and they serve the best Italian food I've ever had. The bruschetta was piled high and the perfect overture to a perfect meal. After dinner we toasted with delicious Moscato d'Asti and Limoncello, then dug in to gelato or cake for dessert. My favorite part? Ordering the Bicerin with dessert. That's a double shot of espresso, a pot of melted chocolate, and a pot of steamed milk with a cup for you to mix up your own mocha. As an American desperate for good coffee in Ireland, it was a godsend. A delicious, delectable godsend. Carluccio's, I miss you. Hopefully I'll see you again someday. read more

We have found Dublin to have very good Italian food. We actually went to this restaurant twice, once for breakfast and once for dinner. The downstairs is more of a cafe and the upstairs is for dinner. For breakfast, we had their eggs and toast. For dinner, I had their spaghetti and my fiancé had their chicken. Their pasta was so good and their sauce was not too saucy or heavy. For dessert, we had probably the best tiramisu that we have ever had! The allure of a cute Italian grocery ended for me the moment I walked in and was rudely greeted by the hostess. Thus began one of my worst experiences in restaurant service. I was pretty much ignored by my waitress the entire meal and treated like I was a bother to anyone I asked a question to. This was one of the coldest places to visit in Dublin. During work I come here for coffee breaks. Coffee is great but service is terrible. More than twice this week alone I have sat outside for at least ten minutes without service. When I went in to order from the counter I was told I had to go back out and wait for a server, another ten minutes goes by without my order being served. The same happens when you need To pay! This cafe/deli on the corner of Dawson and Duke offers a nice selection of simple, delicious Italian food with the occasional twist - they had me at fried spinach balls! If you are a chocolate lover, you won't want to miss their Bicerin drink Although it is one of a chain, it doesn't feel that way. Service was terrific and prices are reasonable. I've been going here for years and used to like it! But the last time I went in for lunch I was not happy with the service! The guy who took my order was very clumsy and also the couple on the next table were only rising from the table and he rushed them away so he could get the tip they left and the next thing shocked me! He took out his wallet in front of everyone and put the money in to it! The prices in here are too dear for the kind of place it is and the double macchiato I get in here is always the amount of a single! One slurp and it's gone! Ah, la dolce vita! That should be the motto of this place. It's a delectable little Italian cafe, complete with authentic Italian food and a small deli where you can buy mouthwatering Italian cheeses, meats, and pastas. And of course, it's full of Italian charm. This place feels like it was lifted right off the streets of Rome. It has wonderful paninis and soup specials, as well as a separate section for takeaways. It's very difficult to find genuine Italian cuisine when you're not in Italy, and it's wonderful to find it right in the heart of Dublin, just a 5 minute walk from the Luas. It's affordable pricing, and there's even lunch specials for under 10 euros. read more

Phenomenal crab and lobster lasagna - treat yo' self!!

So I popped in this evening to grab myself a take away pasta luganica at the reasonably set take away price of €6.95 as I was starving and wanted something filling and spicy and delicious. Unfortunately whoever 'cooked' the dish made some pretty terrible mistakes. 1. Upon opening the box instead of being greeted with the delicious aroma of spicy sausage and cheesy creamy tomatoey sauce I was met with an acre's worth of parsley. That might be an exaggeration but the dish was literally COVERED with parsley, a plant I really dislike. Carluccio's has never served this dish with parsley as a take away and I know this as I worked there last summer but someone in the kitchen decided that parsley was in vogue today. I can appreciate that parsley is used to counteract strong smells like garlic breath but I would have appreciated the choice of having my dish saturated with a herb that rendered it bland and just basically crap. 2. Upon removing about 5 grams (not an exaggeration this time) of my nemesis, I unearthed the scabbiest portion of luganica sausage I think a kitchen could possibly get away with, there was maybe about a fifth of a sausage's worth of spicy sausage and what it lacked in sausage and sauce it made up in a 'liberal' (read, potential heart attack inducing) drenching of oil. I would have reasoned that this was possibly due to the luganica drying out (they don't always make it fresh, trays of it are 'pre-prepared' for the lunch time run) however this theory was shattered upon trying a bite and discovering that..... *cue suspense* 3. The actual penne pasta was undercooked. I don't mean 'it was under cooked cause I don't like al dente pasta' undercooked, sense (I like al dente), I mean it was hard, that chunky type of disappointment you get if you undercook pasta by 3-5 minutes. And this alone (the forest of parsley aside) made this dish pretty much inedible. I managed about a 1/4 of the dish as I was seriously starving but had to throw away the rest as it was just awful. Cue stomach pains due to starch-induced indigestion about 30 minutes later and that was the unfortunate adventure I experienced courtesy of a very poor cook's attempts at a dish that Carluccio's very rarely messes up. If I hadn't been so busy with some work and hadn't previously worked for this Carluccio's store I would have gone back to complain and get a replacement but it would have been far too awkward to make a complaint when the staff I would have been dealing with are people I actually know outside of the restaurant. Deeply deeply disappointed and quite annoyed. Whoever was working in the kitchen at 20.45 and got an order for this dish needs to be informed that they should be less liberal with the oil and parsley, and more liberal with the sausage and garlic and cooking time of pasta. This chef seems to have some vendetta or plan to exterminate parsley or at least cause a deforestation of it, which is fine with me, but not when they're using my take away as a mass grave to hide the evidence. Humour aside, I am really unimpressed and would not recommend to anyone to get the dish take away, just because it's a good price doesn't mean a restaurant/chef can justify serving an inedible lump of hard carbohydrates to its customers. read more

So I made the bold the decision to take my 4 year old daughter out for dinner by ourselves - mom was away. I had decided to go someplace fun and new near Graffton Street. I found a great parking spot on Dawson Street and was excited for a new food adventure, but then it happened. My daughter asked how far away the restaurant was from our parking spot - I said "three blocks or so" - the response "I can't walk three blocks" - after a few rounds of this, I decided that I could not walk three or more blocks either - we went across the street to Carluccio's - although I had been here before for takeaway - and to one of the many London locations for dinner - I had limited expectations. I was pleasantly surprised - I had chicken milanese - a nice large fresh piece of chicken with sea salt and a slice of lemon and a small salad. While I could probably make this at home for 4E and I almost choked on the 13E price- I wasn't at home and the place was very convenient, and the food was good. My daughter ordered off the kids menu and had penne with ragu - it came with breadsticks, lemonade(or any soft drink), and gelato for dessert - the breadsticks and the gelato were big hits - the pasta was fine - all for 9E. The waiter was very kind and we were given a cup of crayons as soon as we sat down. I also ordered the minestrone soup which was okay, but I probably would not order it again. read more

I ate at Carluccio's with a group, despite the fact I don't eat cheese. The staff were very helpful about making my selections without cheese. I had a chicken cutlet--lots of food, salad which was very tasty, garlic toast--lots of butter not much garlic, and drinks. Our large group was well attended to and the food took some time to be delivered but we all ate. Very enjoyable atmosphere and dedication to good food. read more

Absolutely terrible food here, had a cod dish that was the blandest I've ever had. At 18,95 you'd expect the food to even taste like anything. Will never go back here and no surprise that on a Saturday evening at 10pm we were the only people there (on the second floor). My boyfriend had a dry pasta that seemed to have been microwaved. The waiting staff were lovely and very professional but unfortunately let down but the terrible chef/chefs. Not worth a visit. read more

The stars are not for the staff but for the food. I'm Italian, I had focaccia, was very expensive and was hard as a rock. I got sad because I was craving it. then I tried other things, they were ok but I can get same olives in other places for a cheaper price. Maybe I was unlucky, I don't know. I can only rate this place on the deli / shop as I have yet to eat here. The choice of ingredients is small but of high quality. The prices are a bit higher than I would expect to pay for the same. Sweet Sicily was already closed and we were after meal looking for some sugar to finish off. We took two desserts home as they looked so tasty and yummy on the display (small apple crumble and small chocolate tart). We come back home to become very disappointed with what we have got. I only ever went to Carluccio's to get some coffee and Italian goodies, but have yet to go there for lunch or dinner. Anyways, they do sell some really nice Italian pasta, chocolates and olive oils. If you're a foodie you will definitely be able to find something nice here. And their coffee? Well, it's definitely up there in my top 10 places to get coffee in Dublin. Nice and strong, the way usually only Italian restaurants and cafes manage to make coffee. You can get your coffee as takeaway here, so if you're doing some window-shopping on Grafton Street, have some coffee here to keep warm. read more

Had lunch here yesterday with my wife and her sister. Very, very clean, nice with great food. Excellent customer service. i ordered the steak which i dont recommend they are know for their italian food not steaks. my only gripe is as we were leaving there wasa sign out front for a three course meal special, which at no time didi our waiter make us known of that before we ordered. That part didnt set well with any of us, as the bill was over as $100... So if your in there area and deside to give this place a shot, make sure you as about any specials before you order... Had a date here with my boyfriend and it was really special. We got the combo platter of antipasti to share for starter which was incredible and a selection of 3 pasta dishes to share for the main. The pasta wasn't as good as the other times I've eaten there and was a bit cold but the experience of sharing the different dishes was a nice alternative and is a great date idea. Mostly come here for the take pasta during lunch. Top notch I must say. However, the one major qualm I would have is the stingy portions. The white box that the pasta is served is a grand size but there is often a heap of space left on top. That's the last thing you want to see when you've been looking forward to lunch all morning. Very small place with nice ambience. We were really hankering for some vegetation after a long transatlantic flight. They brought us out a platter with variety of grilled vegetables, fociatta bread, olives, artichoke hearts marinated with garlic oil, and a nice buffalo matzerella cheese. Antipasti was overpriced for a couple of olives and a selection of ham and salami that could have been from LIDL. 3 out of 5 pasta dishes we ordered were COLD when they arrived. We the waiter about this, but we obviously did not want two of us to wait for a new dish while the rest finished their dinner.
