I had to provide my driver's license and insurance card and then sign a form before taking the car out for a drive. ATTENTION !!! ‼They deliberately sabotage your vehicle's computer system to drive down the price so they can buy it cheaply; then, they simply fix the system using a computer and resell it to another buyer at a high price. I urge the ‍FBI and FEDERAL authorities to investigate this. I can personally attest to this: I took my Range Rover there to get a price quote, and they sabotaged its computer system. My husband and I stopped in at 8:15 tonight as this location is open until 9:00 pm. My husband went in and asked to see a specific vehicle (as we know what we're looking for) and already have the financing. They didn't have the SUV, but had a truck he's been eyeing (I'll drive whatever he selects). We need another vehicle but are seriously considering buying two. He asked about the price and was okay with it. Anyway, he asked to check out the truck and the gentleman told him it should be unlocked but no one was going to show it to him tonight, and that he could make an appointment for tomorrow. My husband told me that he was going to buy it (year and mileage were what we wanted for the price), if the gentleman hadn't been such a jerk to him. We're not looking to waste time. It could've been so easy for all involved. CarMax lost a sale and we'll definitely skip them on future purchases. I"ll never do business with them again. I paid $400 to have a 2025 hybrid car driven from Cleveland to their Columbus OH store so I could test drive and buy. I took the car for a test drive and hear a whining noise like a wheel bearing or electric motor issue . I said I didn't want the car because of the noise but they still kept my $400. Make sure to take the vehicle you are thinking of buying to a dealership or trusted mechanic and pay them to go through the vehicle to be sure all the maintenance is up to date and there are no major issues before buying from them. They are very nice but they are just trying to sell cars. I made the mistake and I am paying the price for it. read more

It's been a few months since we bought our car from Carmax, but we've been recommending them to our friends and family ever since! Rob Ergino was our sales rep and he was fantastic, it was our first time buying a car and he was so helpful and answered all of our questions. We stopped by some other places in the area after our first visit at Carmax and felt like the service just didn't compare. Got a quote to sell my Alpha Romeo Guilia with 9,500 miles on it. The offer was way below book price at $22,500. After leaving the dealership, I completed the online evaluation of my car through Carvana. They came back with an offer of $30,600. I accepted the offer but remained skeptical this large discrepancy would actually pan out. Needless to say, I went through the process and did receive the full offer of $30,600 minus $500 to pick up at my home. It pays to shop your vehicle around folks! read more

I had an old van with few miles to sell. Online they offered a tentative price of $5000. Another company offered $850 and told me larger companies gave large estimates online till you got there, then dropped it. When I got to CarMax, it did take them twice as long as they said to check the van out, but when they came back, the offer was $7400. As I see it, if they hadn't told me and offered the $5000, I would have been happy, but they were extremely honest and helpful. A warning light came on for my low beams and I attempted to have the lamp(s) replaced at an oil change service center (no luck and kind of an odd experience) - instead, called my friendly Car Max service line and had an appointment a few days later and just received the diagnostic result from the staff and the cost. There is something to be said about giving credit where credit is due, and in this circumstance, credit is CERTAINLY due. This team was amazing! Ever since renting a 2019 Nissan Pathfinder a few weeks ago, I'd been dying to get one. Our vehicle had more than 226,000 miles on it and it was an incredible vehicle. But, my family and I needed something newer and more reliable. I started off on the CarMax website and got a pre-approval. Thomas Rick, was the first salesman I spoke with, and although he was a little busy when we can in, he ushered us to the lot and the vehicle we were looking at. He spent a few moments with us, and was very professional in asking us to give him a few moments to continue working with the customers who were there before we were. He spent the bulk of the afternoon showing my husband and me different vehicles we might be interested in that had all the features I was after. I was incredibly difficult about it -- I'm sure -- because I really had the ideal combination of features in my head and was pretty resistant to deviating, even for a lower price. Thomas stayed beyond his scheduled time to help us and I acknowledged his dedication -- but I knew his family was waiting at home for him also and didn't want to keep him any longer. He introduced us to Donovan C, who was phenomenal. Thomas gave Donovan the run-down of what we were after and Donovan picked up right where Thomas left off almost as though he'd been with us the entire time. I still hadn't found what I wanted exactly -- as dumb as it sounds, for me, such an investment needs to make me say "this is IT, THE car I've been looking for..." -- and Donovan followed through by calling the next day and texting with me about different cars I'd found online. On Monday my husband and I came in ready to buy. Thomas was booked all through the morning and I had things scheduled for that afternoon. Although Thomas was busy, he didn't put us on the back burner and make us wait until he was done. Instead, Thomas connected with other team members to get us taken care of. That was huge! After taking a test drive with another salesman -- whose name I cannot recall largely because I didn't get his card, but certainly deserves credit as well -- Thomas connected with us again and introduced us to Wassour C, who finished and finalized the remaining details of the sale. Ms. Ratna, in the business office, was professional, personable and so sweet. She made the signing process much more comfortable, and was completely phenomenal. They gave us time and bags to get our belongings out of our trade-in and pulled the new car (that Pathfinder I'd been coveting for weeks) up where we could get our stuff into it (kids' car seats and such). When we came out to our new car after signing the papers, they had this big amazing bow on it. There aren't any car purchasing experiences in recent memory that were this memorable. Honestly, I was so touched that didn't know how to react. I hope they didn't think I was being rude, I just didn't know what to say. I know they do this for all of their customers, but in that moment, I felt like their only customer. In sum, this was an amazing experience and I am so grateful to every single associate who had a hand in getting us the car we not only needed, but also the one I wanted. Their busiest times are Saturdays and Sundays and the gentleman who helped me with my appraisal said there can be up to 7 people waiting for their turn. Best move is to call their center and make an apt. I got within the same day. They explain the whole process of appraisals in detail and we're very friendly. Their deal is good for 7 days so you don't have to feel pressure to turn your car in the same day. They also just solely buy your car and you don't need to purchase one from them. I will say I felt like my car is worth more, but don't we all. It's a business and they want to make the most from each turn in. read more

I scheduled an appointment with CarMax to get my 02' Camaro appraised. They advertised that the appraisal would have no strings attached and the quote would be good for seven days. They mentioned that there is not an incentive to use the appraisal value to purchasing a car at CarMax. The staff greeted me at the front desk and I informed them that I had an appointment with Joe Cunningham. They quickly got Logan, since Joe was off today. Logan took me to his cubicle where he took my information and my cars information. Logan was friendly and professional. He also asked what type of car I was looking for and brought a selection up on his computer. We went out and viewed a few and Logan explained some additional information about purchasing at CarMax. He was the least pushy salesman and was great! The appraisal took from stepping into the door to leaving was about 45 minutes. Logan explained what the appraiser determined and provided the quote. He explained the seven day offer and gave me his business card. It was a seamless process. I highly recommend doing this to appraise your car and determine your options. read more

But the guy I spoke to was helpful and friendly, and I got to wander the lot- lots of fairly new used cars. Next time I got right in, and they appraised my car while we looked at possibilities for its replacement. The guy was helpful and down to earth, with just a bit of the usual sales push. I narrowed it down to a couple of cars I liked, and he quickly brought up the Carfax-type reports on them. An excellent car-buying experience! I never felt any pressure from sales, and I ended up with a car that meets my needs perfectly. They listened to what I wanted--AWD, big enough for 2 tall adults, a dog, a baby, and camping gear; and capable of lasting just as long or longer as my 2002 tracker--and respected my budget. What's above and beyond is the fact that they repair anything found with the car in the first 30 days you own it, and they mean it. My new-to-me car had a few gremlins, and they made probably $1000+ of repairs for free. The kicker is that one of these problems required a second repair, and this became apparent the morning of a business road trip. CarMax gave me a loaner, at no expense to me, for a week, with no mileage or distance limits. I was able to go on my business trip without any issues and put 1000+ miles on a loaner car without batting an eye. It was spectacular. I can't recommend them highly enough. read more

DO NOT BUY A CAR HERE! I don't leave reviews, good or bad but I have to let people know before they make the same mistake I did. This place is the worst business on THE PLANET! I have had nothing but difficulty with them since BEFORE I even took the car off the lot. I thought that buying from a nationwide company would give me some piece of mind, but no. In fact it was just the opposite. Because they are so big, they aren't hurt by mistreating people. A local dealership could never get away with the stuff they do here, they wouldn't last 3 months. I have never been so frustrated, so displeased, and so angered over a transaction in all my life. Look everyone has different experiences and varying expectations; you buy things, you go out to eat, good, bad or indifferent you're taking a risk. I get that. So very disappointed in this place. The hubs and I went to narrow down our options now that our family has grown. First of all, the facility is under construction so half their walls are covered with a plastic tarp, the ceiling tiles are all missing, and there aren't any signs anywhere so much as staying "please pardon our dust" or something along those lines. Anyway, we headed out to the lot on our own to start looking at cars. We quickly realized a salesperson's knowledge and expertise would actually be useful so we went back inside to request one be assigned to us. We were added to a waiting list and headed back out to the lot in the meantime to continue to browse their options although it was 91 degrees out and I was with my 8-week-old son and my husband whose body does not regulate his own body temperature due to his injury. We made it all the way around the entire lot, stopping to look at minivans, SUVs, and other midsize cars along the way before a salesperson was ever assigned to us. What's worse is that as we were rounding the corner at the end of the lot we hear a car beep a few times before a car max employee comes zooming around the corner without slowing down, nearly taking my son's stroller out in the process. When I asked him why he needed to drive at such a speed in such a careless manner, he was argumentative stating he was going the speed limit instead of showing some common sense and being more apologetic or showing some sort of remorse. When I asked for a supervisor to share this incident with, his apology felt extremely insincere. We were ready to buy but will traverse across the city to CarMax of Easton instead as we will certainly not do business with an establishment who shows such blatant disregard for customer safety and customer service. read more

This was my first Car buying experience with CarMax and initially I was skeptical but I got impressed as the total process went by. I had always bought brand new car from local dealer before this. So I had found my desired used car (2017 Porsche Macan) with great mileage and at excellent price point at a CarMax store in Atlanta and excited to know that it can be shipped to my local CarMax store for $99 with no obligation to purchase. I was surprised when CarMax called me for a test drive one week earlier than it's expected date of arrival which I scheduled. I drove it and loved the car and decided to buy. The buying process was smooth as the price was fixed and loan application was smooth. Since I was planning to pay it full in full, it let me buy with three business days to pay in full or else buy through loan. Dealer car pulls out right in front of our family vehicle and then has the nerve to continually hit his breaks on Sawmill and on 270 right in front of us! I spent over $600 to have a phantom car transferred 6 weeks ago and the car seems to be missing. In the meantime, I purchased a different car from them so I no longer need the transfer. They said the would give me my money back for the transfer when the car "lands." I'm feeling like a chump. I've seen other posts about their transfer scam. read more

This is my second car I've bought from CarMax. The experience was still pleasant due to no haggling, but the process is still drawn out dealing with financing and paperwork. The salesperson I dealt with was knowledgeable and helpful, but there was no follow up to repeated eMails asking when the car would be available and trying to get the car in for some initial service. I don't really need to be pampered and was able to take care of things myself, but at least a reply to my eMail would have been nice. I would have thought there would have been at least one follow up to see if I was pleased rather than sending me surveys. All-in-all, I would buy another car from CarMax again in the future. read more

They're fine for who they are, but let's face it, car salesmen have a reputation for a reason. They make a big deal about their "no hassle" price, but all that really means is they aren't going to take a penny less. You WILL end up paying a whole lot more with all their add-on charges, and the entire process still takes hours. There is plenty of built in hassle for the buyer. Still, there's a lot of selection and they are a bit more low-key than the usual car salesmen. So low-key that some of them wear shorts, which I think is ridiculously inappropriate. A word of warning: check out every inch of the car you are interested in, even under the floor mats. They don't do a very good job of cleaning or checking car interiors. read more

They were very friendly and helpful initially until I wanted to take a test drive. After giving them my drivers license they came back and told me that CarMax chooses who they do business with and they chose not do do business with me. They would not tell me why but said if I called the corporate office they would tell me. They then demanded I leave the building. It was all very demeaning. I called corporate the next day and they said they would get back with me about what happened. I finally called back 2 days later and was told the same thing as the store with no explanation. Not giving up, I made a complaint with the BBB. I couple of weeks later CarMax contacted me to see if they could resolve the complaint. I told them I just wanted to know why they would not do business with me. They then researched and called me back and said that it was all a mistake and that they had confused me with someone else. They would give no explanation of how that could happen nor would they tell me of any corrective action they have taken so that what happened to me would not happen to anybody else. The moral of the story is do not trust giving any personal information to CarMax as they do not have any controls to keep it secure. read more
