Take my advice and SELL your car first on LETGO or some other app like I did before coming to Carmax. Stop whining about bad offers and do it yourself after you get the bad offer from any car dealership so you can compare. Get this: I asked for and got an OUT-THE-DOOR price over the phone and they did not charge one penny more when I left with the car. Get this: They transferred the plate from my sold Hummer to the new car and transferred the Hummer insurance over to the new car while I was there. They put my plate on the car before I drove out; no temporary tag. Get this: No cashier check or money order was needed; the money ($17000) came out of my bank debit card; all I had to do was call my bank and identify myself so the transaction would go through beforehand. They did not charge a percentage on this transaction! Get this; instead of waiting for 4 to 5 hours like my last terrible car dealer experience the whole Carmax transaction took little over an hour including test drive. When I first went to Carmax the buying process was a wonderful experience and I was really looking forward to trading my vehicle with low mileage and trading it in for a more updated used car. However after the flood and the third party GAP insurance they work with it has become a bait and switch, pointing fingers game and not one of those corporations have the ethical business knowhow to carry out the right thing to do protocol and just pay off the car instead of making excuse after excuse why they won't hand me my title and allow me to get another car. Two things are certain the first is that I'll never a car fork Carmax again or refer anyone to do business with them and secondly, I'll will definitely take my business to a new car dealer and get the options, professional service and ethical business A paying customer deserves. Bought a 2020 RAM Ecodiesel with 11,200 of $45,998.00 Within the 1st month i noticed that the rear bumper paint and on the right rear side of the truck bed bellow the tail light the paint started to peel, flake, crack, etc. Apparently car max attempted a dent repair and didn't tell me anything because according to their repair standards it was ok and they do not let customers know when their standards are met. Their fix for this is just "touch up" with a touch up brush. Its easy for them to say "touch it up" as they are not the ones financing over 40k. The purchasing manager continues to say "you better touch it up quick as it will continue to crack" Just imagine what i was FEELING at that point. So if they fix a bent wheel and they stick 20k weights and rolls down the expressway just fine they don't tell you. They also went ahead and told me that my truck is worth the same as one just like mine without damage due their "pricing standards" WOW!!!!! My 1st and last vehicle i buy from CAR MAX as well as for my friends, work colleagues, family and everyone and anyone that asks me. This is the 2nd time I get a car from this dealership, I am satisfied with the service and help. The CarMax App is great, let's you find the car you looking for based on your taste, they you place it in hold and submit an application right there through the app, next thing someone calls you with the result, at first APR was sort of high, so I went with my own financing and brought in the approval from the bank; and they actually had last minute an even better APR deal. I was very happy at the end. Also, for those that don't have good credit or actually credit below 550 like I me at some point, they will always help you to get the car you dream about it. As now my credit is fixed and the score very good, however, I will still come back to Carmax, I am grateful for them helping me when no other dealer would. Also in ththe appraisal I was very satisfied with it. I actually got more than what I thought and more than in KBB. Headline worst car buying experience in my life I went to carmax on friday and was in need of a car and had a budget found a the right year and miles but when it came time to run the info i got approved something strange happened they asked for proof of things which is fine they asked for proof of where im staying which i provided proof of empoyment they asked for my most recent and my last paystubs from last year which i provided proof of insurance which i was going to provide and than for some reason they asked for proof of cell phone and all of this to be in a pdf file everything went good except the cell phone proof which was a pain so instead of me leaving home with a car that i need it became a nightmare of obstacles an annoyance and most of all frustration i had to go to multiple locations to get a pdf of my bill for my cell in which was never good i literally bent over backwards and it still wasnt good. Went to a get an appraisal to sell my leased car for which the contract is soon to expire. The person that "helped me" was very unhelpful and rude, told me they don't lease from the finance company I lease my car from, even when I said I have the money to big the car from the finance company and then sell it to carmax. Horrible experience. First off, 30 minute appraisal is a lie. It took almost an hour and a half. Then I was told they use KBB and their own system to determine the value of the car. Another lie. According to their own inspection, my car was in good mechanical and visual condition. Trade in value for my car, from KBB, is $3800. Private party is $4400. They claimed KBB showed my cars value at $816. When I asked about the discrepancy, I was told that KBB is an automated system and they don't use it. Wtf?! Bottom line, do not trust them. They will do what they can to rip you off because most people don't bother checking on their own. This has been the worst car buying experience of my life. Brought my wife to buy a car and after making her choice everything just took forever to process. after spending two days providing documentation to prove residence and income, things got going now after 24 hours I am sitting waiting for them to "prep" the car. The salesperson Fernando was great but I would not recommend this carmax and cannot see myself ever buying a car from them. i sold my Jetta to this doral location a few weeks ago and the process was quick, direct, and they gave me a very reasonable offer on my car which i accepted. deal done. i went back to the same location today to have them provide me an offer on my Porsche 718 and the experience couldn't be more opposite that my first visit when i sold my other car. i scheduled an appointment at 530pm, called them prior to walking out of the house to make sure there wasn't a extensive wait to have a purchase quote given the fact i live on the other side of town, and when i arrive i'm told i have to wait at least an hour and a half to two hours just to have them look at the car to provide me a quote. Issue #1. the manager that does estimates had a major attitude from the get go and no one in this area checked me in until an hour after i arrived and employees were pointing me in every which direction to get some help. it was a complete train wreck. i escalated my concerns to a more senior manager and he stepped in and made arrangements to have my car reviewed for a quote in a more timely fashion given the fact that i scheduled this in advance. everyone however had excuses for the ridiculous wait. what was the point of making an appointment? on top of this everyone was running around like chickens with their heads cut off and under intense pressure. turns out the guy that gave me a quote on the Porsche was the same guy that gave me attitude from the get go. needless to say he gave me a completely ridiculous and insulting estimate to purchase my car. 5-10k below blue blue and every book. in the end he told me that if i had an F150 then he would give me an amazing quote because everyone is buying trucks. he said carmax pays not on the value of the car but the value of time to flip the car and make a profit. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME SELLING a premium sports car to Carmax in Doral.they'll just low ball and insult you on the offer. newsflash guys! premium cars take longer to sell given the price point. clearly thats not your priority. why don't you tell this to consumers up front instead of wasting their entire afternoon waiting around at carmax. stick to what your good at. cheap cars that you can flip quickly and make you a quick buck because that's all that matters to you. A few days ago, I bought a 2009 Jeep Wrangler from Andres at Carmax in Doral. It was kindly transferred at my request from another location. My experience was better than I expected as Andres is a professional and courteous salesman. He walked me through a long process that I was nervous about because it was a major purchase for me. Before I left the lot, he noticed a ding on the front bumper and even helped to schedule the service appointment for the following Monday to have it repaired. Sales Dept at Doral 5 stars. On the following Monday, I had that service appointment at the Carmax in Doral and I met with Ricky from the Service Department. I explained that I had a 10:00 am appointment to repair the front bumper of a minor ding. He asked for documentation but I explained I did not have any but I had paper work from when I bought the car, 5 days earlier. I then explain that I noticed the change oil light going off and that I believed it needed an oil change. He said well if you drive the car then you need to change the oil. I explained that I bought the car 5 days ago. He then responded well it's not a new car. I explained, that I'm aware of it, but that all Carmax cars are reconditioned to be ready with the basics like a new oil change and wipers, which are also bad. He's like well how do you know that the wipers are bad. I said, I attempted to use them and they just left streaks on my windows. He then proceeds to tell me that it's normal for my car to have these oil warnings. I explained that I disagree. If that's the case then maybe a more serious problem is wrong with the car, misfiring of codes about the oil. I explained perhaps a more through inspection needs to be made. He's like we are just going to reset the computer. He even recruited a service man to collaborate what he wanted me to believe. I still disagreed with both of them. He then became confrontational with me by saying are you calling us both liars. I stated, I did not say that, you did. I finally asked him, why was he giving me a hard time about an oil change when I just paid $25,000k for a car here? He said, if I was giving you a hard time, I'd make you come back another day for not having the paperwork. I then said "all right, that's fine, how long will it take". He then responded , "don't get loud with me because if I want to, I'll let your car sit there for 5 hours." I asked him, if he just said to me that he would have my car sit there for 5 hours? He then ignored my question and stated "bring the car around to be serviced." I immediately asked for a manage. He said there was none. I asked when will one be available. He said one will arrive until 1:00pm. He didn't give me a name or any contact information. I asked the nearby receptionist to reschedule the appointment with someone other than the man that took care of me that day. She did. Next I asked for a manager's information or that of any manager. I was given Michael E. Carrera email address. I have emailed the service manager a detail description of my encounter. But I have never heard from him. So, next I emailed Carmax Corporate Public Relations. I emailed the salesman who transferred the car, the salesmen who sold me the car, the Doral Store Manager and just about anyone I could. Four days later, Mia a manager called to apologize and to tell me that she spoke to Ricky and that his encounter was not like I described. I'm extremely upset as write this review. I do not allow anyone to be rude to me. It is unacceptable that a customer who is doing business with Carmax be treated like I have described by their service department at Doral. I have made a huge purchase with Carmax which includes the extended warranty and I expected to be treated with respect. In cases where companies fail to train their staff to be courteous to their customers I make a conscious decision never to shop there again. I did not disrespect that service man. My inquiry and questioning should not trigger the serviceman into an assertive and aggressive tone with me, it is not a personal attack on him, it is protection on my financial investment. Part of the reason I decided to purchase at Carmax was because I have been mislead at other car dealers and as a working woman who earns her keep, I seek a fair exchange. I am aware that the car I purchased is used. I know it will need repair. But I also know the car has been reconditioned to run well with regular maintenance, which I intend to give it. An oil change and window wipers are part of that bare minimum reconditioning process. My previous car was with me 14 years due the regular maintenance that I provided. Sales Team - you are awesome. Carlos Dominguez helped me. A very professional, polite, and prompt man. Did everything he said he would, as a customer would expect. Explained everything over the phone with me. Put my car on hold from the inventory when I called during work. Told me all the paperwork I needed to bring before I arrived. He stayed late to accommodate my work schedule so that I could purchase the car I found online that same day when I got off work. I was in and out of there with my car purchased in one visit, 2 hrs total. I did immediately notice two issues... a broken stereo AUX input and a missing navigation screen. Carlos immediately put in the paper work with the service department to fix and order this the same day and provided me a copy of the paper work. I was at ease and feeling fine.... that was until I had to continue the process with the Service Department. I purchased the car on 3/17.... service department had me come back twice in order to inspect and photograph the broken AUX and missing screen parts. Why they didn't have this on record from when it was on their sales lot? Who knows... Why they didn't inspect both issues on the same visit? Who knows... a clear sign of the disorganization and headache I was about to endure. This is no easy stop in and out process for me, as I live in Miami Beach and this Carmax is 30 mins away in Doral, off the most congested traffic filled roads in Miami. Fast forward to May 6th, finally the AUX part is in and I'm told to bring my car in for repair. Brought in and dropped off in the morning, returned to pick up, easy enough... except... no navigation screen was installed. When I asked why, the girl working was very short, impatient, and told me "I don't know why it wasn't ordered I don't deal with these things. Come back or call tomorrow if you want, I'm going home now." Wow... stellar service. You get paid for that type of ignorance at work? So, instead of driving back to follow up for the part on order, I decided I would call.... And call, and call, and call.... And call some more. Easily the most unprofessional service department I have ever dealt with. The most basic business courtesy of returning a customers call or informing them of a process is not practiced here. One person from the next does not relay information to the proper person, and this apparently is the normal routine basis here. Calling the service department, you'll typically get the voicemail of Sandy at x4150 or by pressing 4 from the main menu for the Service Department. I have never once had a call returned, even after being told directly that I would be called back by the end of that business day. You have to call multiple times to get them on the phone, and you're promised everything is fine, everything is as it should be... but its not. The manager Michael Cabrera at x4100 clearly sets the tone for this work environment as shown by his lack of promptness and efforts on follow up. One day on May 21st, Michael finally emailed me completely out of the blue. In his email, his excuse for not contacting me after two months was that my provided number is not working... wow, really? You mean that same number I have called your business from over 20 times now? Multiple time over and over again I called his direct line at x4100 and finally had him actually pick up his phone only for him to speak to me at the lowest inaudible disinterested tone of voice and place me on hold only to never pick up the phone again. Finally, this week of 9/22, I got a text message saying my part had been delivered. Dealing with these people is a joke and pure frustration. They are the epitome of don't give a shit, slow Miami service. If I didn't live on the beach, I would make it a point to go there in person everyday until my part was ordered and remind them and everyone within ear shot, how unprofessional and rude they are. What does it say about the level of competency, diligence, and care for customers that it takes an entire service department, including the manager, over six months to order a simple replacement navigation screen... Of which I was able to find myself online in less than 3 minutes? Unless you have to by decree of some horrid soul exchange pact with Satan himself, avoid CarMax Doral's service department at all cost, even and including paying more at a different service provider. I seriously feel for anyone who bought that Max Care extended warranty when they purchased their car.... I can't even imagine what using that would be like with these people. You could be lucky like me and have to drive there multiple times for the same issue, never have calls or emails returned, or best yet be told in person, I don't know I don't deal with that I'm going home now. I had very high expectations recently when I went to Carmax to purchase a pre owned (used) Ford pickup F150, exactly one week after we bought it transmission broke down naturally we took it back and the manager Adrian Fatjo promised my wife and I that they would fix the broken down transmission. Since that first week the truck has been back in their possession 3 times and the last time they had it for one month! (Ridiculous). When we went to pick it up it still had the same problem nothing was done about this I find this very unprofessional and lack of customer service for such a simple fix, The service manager Bill as well as the salesman were very nice to my wife and I however the lack of communication is astonishing to us, needless to say the truck is still not fixed and they refuse to do anything about this I would heavily warn anyone to stay away from this place and not listen to the lies of the manager Adrian Fatjo who ran our credit knowing they were not going to be able to fix the issue. read more

Within 5 days I had to take it back for them to replace the engine. when they returned my car to me they had crashed it in the bumper and refused to replace the bumper with a new bumper. In this situation, however, the company is not making a reasonable effort to fix the issue.*** . My family has had great experiences with this company and they offer great warranties. On March 16, 2021 I paid $999 for a vehicle to be shipped to the San Antonio location and was told it would arrive no later than 21 days. I checked on the vehicle every day to see if it had shipped but the update just said that it is ready to ship, and they will contact me when it is delivered. On March 23, 2021 I called the Carmax in Doral, FL (where the car was located) to inquire about when the car will possibly be shipped. The operator told me that she was not sure what was going on and would give me a call back. After not receiving a call, I called back and spoke to another operator. This time I was told that the car had shipped and I will be given the tracking information by Friday March 26, 2021. On March 24, 2021 I received an email that my shipping fee was refunded. I called Carmax and was on hold for an hour and 45 minutes with no answer. I started a chat on the Carmax website and the operator informed me there was a glitch in the system that allowed someone else to pay for it to be shipped on March 19, 2021 and it was in transit to Norwood, MA. They said they could make this right by selling me another car. That is not a solution for me. I asked to speak to a manager and she said a manager would call me. I never heard from them. I called Carmax back and spoke to customer relations. They informed me that there was data missing from when I paid my fee and the other person paid their fee and an investigation would be launched. I have had no updates on this investigation. Again, the only way they can fix it is to sell me a different car. If I wanted a different car, I would have purchased a different one. On March 27, 2021 my father and I went into the San Antonio Carmax to speak to a manager. This time I was told that my order was deleted and since the other person was interested first, it should go to them. I don't think this is right being I paid my fees first. I am once again told that they can fix this by selling me another car. Carmax is the only one who benefits by them selling me a different car. They sell two cars and I get the short end of the stick by financing a car I do not like. It is not right for a company to take a car from under you when you have paid your fees and were told the car was on hold for you. My credit was lowered due to the hard inquiry they pulled, and I was told inconsistent stories by several people. If you are looking for a new car in the future, I recommend staying away from Carmax. After reading reviews on the Better Business Bureau, I see this has happened to several other people. read more

Two weeks ago, I went into carmax hoping to order a car that was at a carmax location out of state. I sat with a sales rep and they explained to me it would be 600$ to transfer the car over to my location and I was assured everything was working properly and the vehicle would go through another inspection before leaving the location it was at and then another larger inspection when it arrived to my desired location. I went ahead and paid the transfer fee and the car arrived fairly quickly. It passed the "extensive inspection" and they contacted me that it was ready to pick up. I went in to finalize the purchase and take the car. Ofcourse, before officially buying the car, they allowed me to test drive it. In test driving the car, I noticed the radio screen was not functioning properly and I was unable to connect to Bluetooth or even do simple things like change the station on the radio. I told my sales rep who then took the car to the service department to get checked AGAIN. They then told me that the entire radio console needed to be replaced to which I expressed that without a working radio, I didn't want to purchase the car. They then told me that they would order the part right then and it should arrive in about a week so being that carmax is a huge company, I trusted it was safe to go ahead with the purchase. Two weeks later, I still had not been contacted about the car part arriving at the store so I called my sales rep. He told me that he would get back to me and then a day later I received a "courtesy call" from the service department letting me know the part to my car was too expensive and they would not be replacing it. I am extremely livid at this entire experience with carmax. I went in thinking I didn't have to worry about situations like this and now I have already spent 200$ on window tints for a car I am being told I will have to return because the piece they promised was never even ordered and they didn't even have the decency to call me until I called them. Now I have a limited time to figure out this entire situation as my 30 day return period is almost up. read more

Unscrupulous! I bought a car and the Carmax warranty. I was taking it to them on regular intervals, and on one of those occasions they talked me into the full service (I was short by a few thousand miles for the interval, but opted to do the service anyway). That service was supposed to include spark plug changes. I have since changed mechanics - turns out I had a friend who specializes in European cars. Recently, I had some problems and it turns out that the spark plugs were bad. That's not supposed to happen 8000 miles after having them changed by Carmax. The service interval for acceptable plugs on my vehicle is 60,000 miles. Carmax did one of two things that are unnacceptable: a) They didn't change the plugs at all. b) They replaced my European turbo-charged motor's plugs with the lowest/worst possible plugs and then used/sold my good plugs to someone else. read more

If you are looking for a fair value offer on your car, don't bother. It was a waste of an hour of my time. Kelly book value for the car was $20,000, mine is in excellent condition and their best offer was $8000, even though they had several of the same year, same mileage, less options, and the lower spec car on the lot for $23,000-$26,000. Considering their whole spiel is that they only marginally mark-up their stock and that's why they can't "haggle" when you go to buy a car, I find this practice of offering under half the suggested vehicle value is a complete joke. As a result, I would simply use this place as somewhere to get test drives and then suggest you buy elsewhere, as they are obviously making a killing selling the car for double what they pay. read more

Now I remember why never to trust used car lots !!! Should trust a politician than this place any day, any time ! In the course of 3 days, I spent over 12 hours of my precious time in this hell hole in Miami. This was my daughter's 1st venture to buy a car on her own, I basically was there to lend moral support - or so I thought. We started on Saturday May 19th. My daughter saw an automobile she liked but wasn't convinced , not to mention this place had been the 1st and only place we had been. The salesperson was , to say the least pushy. She pulled every classic trick to keep my daughter's interest and time, even going so far as bringing in her manager. We finally left the evening with check $ 1500 in good faith to hold the automobile . I explained very clearly that we would be back the next day with our final answer and not to cash this check as I knew it had insufficient funds. Sunday came and we went back to the dealership at 10:30am. My daughter decided she wanted the car so we proceeded through what we thought was the primary purchase process. Little did we realize that the salesperson had already processed the paperwork the day before when we had given the good faith "hold" check so I was a bit take aback, not to mention straight out skeptical with this company at that point. Carmax hasa policy that the.y purchaser has 3 days to find their own financing if they wish than that offered by the dealership. On Monday my daughter and I returned to the dealership with the documentation with the new financing, not to mention a flat tire on my daughter's automobile !!! Everything when spiraling out of control after this !!! I was at the dealership from 10:00 am to 4pm, returning again at 7pm with my daughter. First problem was they could not complete the processing of my purchase with my new financing information. Problem was that since their system showed that I had technically (and unbeknown) to me purchased the car twice, there was some time of internal security issue in their computer system that would not allow the automobile to be purchased again !!! I had at least 3 different people apologizing and offering all types of offers (free oil change, free lunch, etc) for my inconvenience of being at the place so many hours. I got to a point that I really didn't give a damn and just walked out of the place and down the street. My husband finally found me 3 miles away from the dealership walking down the street - I truly needed some time to compose myself before I beat someone senseless back at the dealership. The second issue was the servicing of vehicles. I stated earlier my daughter got a flat tire on the automobile that all she had done thus far is leave the lot and go home. The car took 4 days to get back - it took them this long to get a tire all the way from, get this........broward county !!! The automobile is now in their possession since Monday , June 4th. My daughter had purchased to have her car seats replace from cloth to leather. I guess since my horrific experience a couple of weeks ago, the service manager calls me at least once a day with the status of the car. What should have taken 2 days is now up to 3 days and they're not expecting the car to be ready til Friday !!! I guess they don't know the phrase "time is money" . They've sure taken allot of mine but trust me it will be the last. As for those "good faith" free oil changes they gave us for our inconvenience is waiting to long for just about everything, I sure know what I would like them to lube up !!!!! read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. I purchased a 2015 BMW 3-Series in October 2017, under the assumption that my car had run flat tires, as is the case with newer BMWs. When I got a flat two months later, I didn't worry too much, as I was sure I was driving on runflats, which let you drive for 50 miles after you've gotten a flat tire. I waited until the next morning to get my tire changed. When I got to Braman, the service technician asked why I didn't have runflats.... excuse me? Upon further inspection, NONE of the tires on my car were run flat. I had him give me this in writing and I went straight to Carmax. At first, a service person tried to tell me this is normal, that they sell the cars in the condition they have them in, tires included. But I wasn't having that, so a nice sales person was able to pull up the listing for my car and there it said it RUN FLAT TIRES. Meaning, I was lied to about the product I was sold. When I brought this up to management, they redirected me to the service department, who said they could change my three non run flat tires. Why only three? Well because I had just purchased a brand new run flat tire at Braman a few hours ago, due to the flat I had. I said no, the price of my car includes FOUR run flat tires. I'd like to get reimbursed for the tire I had to purchase out of pocket. After some back and forth, they agreed to this. Why did I even have to ask for this in the first place!? It should have been common courtesy. This was in January 2018. It's now March and I have yet to receive a reimbursement or even as much as a formal apology from ANYONE at Carmax. I have had to call them 6 times to follow up on the reimbursement. "We'll call you right back" they always say. I have not received ONE phone call from them ever. As a business owner myself, I would be bending over backwards to fix a situation like this. I have grounds for a lawsuit, as they sold my a faulty product which put me in danger, but for now all I want is my reimbursement, and for everyone reading this article to please be aware of their horrible service and to save themselves the headache and to go ANYWHERE else to purchase a car. It's NOT worth it. I will never make this mistake ever again. read more
