    This weekend I became an expert of navigating all things auto…read more I owned a 2013 Nissan Rouge, and to be honest this car has really done the most for the last 13 years. However, cars cannot last forever and when it was time to retire my beloved Rouge, my first stop was Carmax to see the value so I could use that towards a new car. On Friday, I put in all the information about my vehicle into the Carmax website and got an offer that was valid for 7 days. Carmax gave me more than Carvana and so I took that online offer to the dealership on Saturday. The dealer offered me much less than the Carmax offer - so I walked out of that deal, and went back to Carmax to see the official appraisal. I made an appointment online, arrived on time on a Sunday afternoon (the last day of the month) - and was out with my appraisal which matched the online quote in real life in 40 minutes. I found this to be quick and painless, and a great experience. I did not get a car from Carmax, but I feel like they gave me a great and fair offer on my car which helped me leverage a great deal at a dealership for a new lease.

The "customer first" image is pushed hard, but as an employee, it often felt like numbers and quotas came first--by a mile. Cars were rushed through inspections to meet deadlines, and there was always pressure to move inventory, even when it clearly needed more attention. That famous "125-point inspection"? Let's just say it's more about checking boxes than actually checking the car. Management varied wildly--some tried their best, others were more interested in micromanaging or playing favorites. Advancement felt more political than performance-based, and good employees were often overlooked while others coasted by doing the bare minimum. If you're thinking of buying a car here, double-check everything and don't rely too heavily on the CarMax "stamp of approval." If you're considering working here, just know that the culture isn't nearly as polished as the commercials make it seem. Disappointed to leave with such a bitter taste, but I can't say I'm surprised. May god look over this company and renew its workforce and maybe they can stay true to there words .

Eddy helped me get it at an incredible price that was affordable to me when I needed help the most. Fast forward now to 2025 and I was ready for a little upgrade. I went back to see Eddy and his team. I knew I would probably end up with another Rogue but wanted to check out the Ariya and the Pathfinder. Pedro right away stepped in and took me to test drive each car. He was so kind and patient, giving me time to ask questions and go back and forth between the 3 cars. Once we settled on the Rogue, we quickly signed papers as they had the car washed for me. Everyone was so kind, coming in and offering us cafecito, congratulating me on the new car, and offering help with the finance part and insurance update. My experiences here are always so positive and it makes car buying so easy that I literally drive from my home in Homestead to work with Eddy and his team.
