If you're looking for a car max with a huge let down please look no further. The place does not keep up on its tags and doesn't upkeep on its stalk. A complete waste of 2 hours of my time for no reason other to be than let down. Went and found a car, test drove it off the lot, sat down to get numbers on the car only to find out it had been sold to someone on the literal other side of the country. Not only did my salesmen not know about the sale, but whoever did sell it obviously didn't take enough care or consideration to put any kind of sold label on it. Not only this but if you're looking to finance, we were prepared to pay in cash and still wasn't offered any solution to our problem. This Car max. Just got back from a very disappointing trip to this carmax. I will be buying a car soon but just have not decided on the make or model I want yet. I told the sales guy the type of car I like as far as style. Named a couple cars I had been looking at online. I wanted something in the mid range size. Gas mileage is important to me. I told him about the things I liked in my current car yet the whole time it was like I was following him as he wandered in circles around the lot. He was not asking me questions and when I would stop in front of a car I thought looked nice with a price range i was okay with he would just keep wandering. I pulled him back to a car and asked him to open it for me. I expected him to tell me about the car which he did not. I asked him if I could test drive it and he didn't answer. I got back out and closed the door to realize he locked it and had walked away as I asked again to test drive it. No response. Finally we went back inside and he lectured me on how I needed to do more research. Very disappointed with the service I got today. I definitely felt like I was not taken seriously. read more

Despite my original sales person, Raul, who told me that he did not have time to help me look at cars unless I was ready to buy then and there, I did finally get matched with a salesman, Chuck, who treated me with more respect. Although Raul gave me fair advice as to how to narrow down my decision, Chuck took time to find me a car he thought I would like from another location and had it transferred to me the next day. Chuck was not only professional and helpful, he saw that my father was struggling with walking in the heat and picked him up in the golf cart and brought him to the lobby. However, I felt that the cars were overpriced and later discovered they were approx. 2k above KBB, which prompted me to look elsewhere in the end. These guys are crooks! I have a 2014 Mazda 6 in mint condition fully loaded with 10,000 miles. In April 2015 they offer me $20,000 for the car. I wasn't ready to sell then. One month later and I haven't driven the car and have kept it covered and I am ready to sell and now it's worth $19,000 a $1000 less. How does the value of a car decrease $1000 in one month when it is kept covered at all times and not driven? After checking the box on disclosure that my tires for my 2009 550 SL were repaired or replaced the tires were bald. After fighting for several months then replaced my run flat pirellis with regular pirellis it turns out after have the Ca State of Automotive Service and repairs investigate all 4 tires eventually were replaced now the wheels are pinching the tires if one barely scrapes a curb and the sidewalks are cracked and leaking air. The tires are regular and not factory speck run flat tires as I have no spare. The tires are almost brand new 4 months old and all 4 have to be replaced as they are not safe and can blow anytime once again like the original tires blew and I spun out. Pirelli will not warrant them as they are the wrong tires for the wheels which are AMG for the sport model so they have once again endangered my life with bad tires. They need to be run flat tires as they are thicker and the wheels don't pinch cracks in the sides. Unbelievable as it took several months to even get these. Now another fight. Plus the car had been in a front end accident it has bondo under the paint in the front bumper and fenders are not lined up properly. I'm at a loss once again the BMW 650i convertible was $8000 for the engine repairs and warranty did not pay for $4000 of car rentals in the 4+months it took to repair engine. read more

NEVER AGAIN... After buying 5 vehicles here NEVER AGAIN...I have been looking for a specific car for a long time and I finally found one at another CarMax and had it transferred. The sales associate called right away and got all my info etc. he informed me that i would be notified when the car arrives, I expressed to him that this was THE CAR and I was really excited. I received the email re shipping info and that THE CAR was coming from Costa Mesa. So 5 days go by no call or follow up email. I called and the associate told me that it wasn't there yet that it takes a few days....HMMMM so on the 6th day my husband and I were curious to see if they had any others wouldn't ya know.... upon looking I see THE CAR... and it has a SOLD sign in the window!!! Went to Carmax last Sunday July 22, 2018. Had my 2011 Toyota Corolla appraised for $7000.00 I said fine, let me get the money to pay off the difference and I'll come back. I was told the appraisal would hold for seven days. So working full time, I was not able to come back before the seven days but I can back today July 30, 2018. I had called the sales person I spoke with last week who said that the could would need to be appraised again but it shouldn't change from the $7000.00 so with money in hand I drove to the Duarte, CA location. The salesman I spoken with was not there so another one helped me, the car was appraised again but this time came up as $6500.00. I was shocked that it would go down so much in two days. When I asked the new sales person why such a big difference, he said that the appraiser over valued the car. Having spent two decades in customer service, my first response was okay honor what the appraiser offered, that was when he began hiding behind the prices are only held for seven days. I told him I had cash in hand ready to sell them the car but he wouldn't budge. I then asked to speak with a manager, the appraisal manager came out and he went on about how the market value of the car went down since the last appraisal and then he can't override the appraisals because it would be second guessing their "guys". I would like to thank CARMAX of Duarte. Everyone have different experience when it comes to buying cars. Many of the buyers come to the dealership/CarMax to get some good deals about the cars. We us buyers expect that all cars will be in great shape, cleanliness, and perfectly the right choice. We must remember that many of the pr-own vehicles 2-4 years old. My wife and I bought my Toyota Sienna SE 2012, in June 2016, Duarte, CA. No car sales man approach me, when, I first arrive to CarMax building. I went straight to the concierge desk and told them I am looking for specific vehicle which is Van. The person who help and assist us by the name of "ERIC." I told him the Van that we want is the Toyota Sienna SE and told him the color. Eric, start up the Van open all doors, windows, moon roof, etc..I mean the Van looks very decent not all perfect but we're happy to see the Van and want to make an offer. It takes a while for everything to close the deal because of the financing and many of the financial institutions want more down and monthly payment is high. It is a 4 years old Van but in decent shape. It comes to conclusion it get finance by Ally Bank. Which, I am very happy to say that $2k down is not too bad for us. The whole way through and the experience we have with "ERIC" is excellent. Eric, is such a nice guy and he even help me drove the vehicle all the way to my home. Then, drove him back to the Carmax dealer late at night and business is close. I gave Eric a 5 stars on my list. I gave CARMAX 3 stars because the Auxiliary is not working and rear video system is not working, the original stereo had been replace. Even though, ERIC, did not show how those things work CARMAX should have been and they make sure each and every component or gadget to this vehicle is in good working conditions. My wife and I love the VAN and really proud owning one. I'm sorry Richie, the experience that you have and how things turns out. We are not perfect and sometimes the way we communicate and how we explain things that you really don't hear what we say and how things are being said, and not unless somebody or someone tell us the way we communicate. Came in on a slow Wednesday night looking for a specific car model. We checked in with someone who was confused that we didn't have an appointment, then told us we were 3rd in line. I laughed but we walked around the lot for 15 mins anyway. Getting tired of walking around my wife and I went to the manager's desk and told the 3 employees sitting there that we were leaving and to take our name off the list. The woman in the middle asked my name then said we were next. I told her that dealerships nearby will be practically begging us to buy a car from them and they're acting like hey need to make us wait, the guy to her left just laughed and said "sorry" with a smug look on his face. Dont waste your time. I have sold two vehicles to their Torrance store in the past and I have always thought the process was fast. Not the best price but it was quick and convenient. First time, I tried to purchase a vehicle from this store and here is the experience. 1. Hold (reserved) the vehicle online on Friday night for a Sunday 2pm appointment. I was very impressed with this feature considering that I have a 14 month old and shopping for a car is not the easiest. 2. Got a call from their staff Saturday 8am to confirm my appointment for Sunday 2pm. Received an email confirmation with the name of the sales person (Paul) I am scheduled to meet. (so far so good. I am impressed). 3. Drove 45mins with my wife and kid on Sunday and arrived 5 mins before my 2pm appointment. (from this point on is just a big waste of time and worst experience) 4. Ask for Paul at the front desk to be told that Paul is not in today. Waited 5 mins for them assign another associate to help me. 5. The associate look into their computer system to tell me that the vehicle I reserved is been transferred to a different store. (are you f*king kidding me? ) 6. After another 15mins talking to the managers; I am told that the vehicle is in the back. I asked if I can see it. Another 15 mins waiting; they pull the vehicle to the front for me to see. 7. The associate asked me if I wanted to test drive it. I did and was ready to buy the car. 8. He goes to talk to the manager again and after another 15 mins; comes back and tell me that the other store has the car on transfer and are not willing to release it. 9. I told them that I had the vehicle on hold for my 2pm appointment; who can another store transfer it before my appointment? Their response is that there was system glitch and there is not much they can do. I proceeded to sell me a different car. 10. Personally, I would have been OK if someone came to the store that morning and purchased the vehicle before I got there. But the way in which they handled the situation was just complete BS. I didn't cause the computer glitch; I reserved the car first and drive for 45 mins with wife and kid to get there on time as scheduled. 11. Now that I think about it; I believe someone who works at Carmax wanted to buy the car. There is no logical explanation for why they would rather transfer the vehicle to show it to someone else when I was there ready to buy the $55k car. read more

I had a nightmare of an experience at Carmax. I bought and returned 3 cars in a time frame of 13 days. I ended up doing a full return. The first car I bought was a Mazda CX-5 which 15 minutes after driving off the lot, it started acting weird and the engine light came on. The car would suddenly stop and not accelerate esp on the freeway. It was extremely dangerous and I had my son in the car plus I am 9 weeks pregnant. I took it back 2 days later and ended up getting a Kia which supposedly had no accidents but someone pointed out the car had been painted before. Took it back, got a 2015 Jeep Cherokee with less then 24k miles on it. Right away the warning lights for the oil, and battery came on and on the 5th day the engine light came on as well. They'll sell anything to make money, even if the car is dangerous and unreliable. This whole experience scarred me and has made me not want to buy a car at all anymore. But when I do buy a new car, it will be at a legit dealership and the car will be brand new. If you have a car with major issues.. bring it to Carmax. They will buy it and sell it no matter what the issues are. read more

I honestly wouldn't recommend going to this Carmax. The service is horrible, especially for these two women who working today January 12, 2016 for I'm guessing closing shift at the service desk. Unfortunately I didn't get their names, but one had long blonde hair and had a very rude attitude and the other has reddish hair and wore eyeglasses. These two ladies weren't much help, they didn't even try to actually make me feel like I was being helped. And besides that, I just recently bought my car from here and first day I brought it home, it had a leakage coming from the transmission. I brought it back for them to fix and it took them 5 days to actually fix it when they kept telling me it'll be done by a certain time. They kept delaying the due date. I am really disappointed. If you're looking to buy a car, I recommend a different Carmax because maybe the people who work there know what they're doing. I bought a 2006 Expedition back in January 2010. I purchased the 2 year warranty at that time. In October 2011 the trottle body gasket was replaced because the car was dying while my wife and 3 kids are driving around. Now 5 months later the same issue is happening. The car is dying. So, CarMax will guarantee the work for 6 months and 6,000 miles. Well, I am within that period. So, because I am out of warranty when this started happening the other day I took it to the local Ford dealer for a diagnostics and it cost me $99. So they tell me its the throttle body again. Didn't CarMax just fix this? So I call CarMax and ask them if they will take care of this since it is in the 6 month 6,000 mile period. They agreed they would but wanted to charge me $95 for the diagnostics. Huh? This is were they are losing me. I just blew $99 at the Ford dealer for basically nothing. Now CarMax wants to charge me for the repair they should have fixed the first time! Hmm. Maybe some "good-will" repair for a customer that has recommeded CarMax to a lot of friends. I know you can't make every customer happy in life as I am also in the car business. This is an easy one though. I also know every client is potentially worth $400,000 in lifetime business. I am sorry CarMax in Duarte has dropped the ball on this. If I had $95 to drop I would do it. But I have a family of 5 to support on my income alone. I am not satisfied with CarMax anymore. The service here is the WORST! The service department is not up to par with other car companies. The service rep Jose was rude and incompetent. I called today to get my car serviced and they said that the earliest they can accommodate me is next week, Wednesday. That's 7 days from now. We said we want to bring the car in today to get it serviced since it was making a lot of noise when the car is in motion and when we brake. We were even able to record the sound on our cell phone... Yes, it was that loud! They said the only free day is next Wednesday. We then said that the car is a family car where we drive young passengers in and we feel its really unsafe to drive. Jose replied, "you can bring in the car and we won't look at it until Wednesday, we won't do any inspection air diagnostic testing until Wednesday." I told him, " why would I bring the car in today if you won't even be able to do anything until Wednesday! Where is the logic in that?!?" Then he said, " The logic is you want to bring the car in today" JOSE, ONE ADVICE...THINK BEFORE YOU SPEAK! Even my son is taught that in Kindergarden! Then he cut me off while I'm still speaking since he wants me to just talk to the service manager Adrian. We called her and left a message 3x already and still no call back! Worst service in the world! Maybe I should just be in contact with someone named Veronica since I hear a lot of good comments about her and she should just be hired as the service manager instead! The salespeople here are friendly because they want to sell a car of course and make their commission. But once there's something wrong with the car, their service response time is slow as hell! Jose and Adrian are no help either! If anything happens to the kids because of a car malfunction and since you said you've passed the car with your rigorous inspection, I will sue you guys! We had an okay sales experience with this place. The price of the car was a deal, we thought we would buy all of our future cars from here UNTIL our okay experience turned into a nightmare. You have 30 days to bring the car back to have anything fixed on it that needed to be fixed. Our breaks were squeaking so we brought it in to be fixed. They "fixed" it. A week later, the breaks started squeaking again. Let me remind you that the sign in the service department says, "If we don't fix it right, you don't pay." Well, we brought the car back in but it was after the 30 days and guess what! They said they wouldn't fix it without charging us because it wasn't inside the 30 days! We even talked to the manager and he said the same thing. Forget buying our cars from them. My husband can fix the breaks for $80 himself but it isn't about that. It's about these people not holding up their end of the bargain. They have a sign that says one thing, "If we don't fix it right, you don't pay." but they do the opposite. I would seriously think twice about buying a car from here and if the deal is just too good to pass up, definitely don't get your car serviced from here. And if you do buy a car from here, bring your car back in within the 30 days for every little thing wrong every day if you have to and call before the 30 days if they didn't fix it right even if there is just a slight problem. read more

They are in the middle of renovating, so the appearance is not its best. We went to try and trade in my boyfriends 2014 Sentra. The lady that helped through the whole process was Gabby, she was very nice and down to earth. I've never been to CarMax before, but it's very laid back and easy to do. Basically, we arrived and at first was scared that we had to go through the building to get to the cars. At usual dealerships you have to run from the flock of car salesman looking for a bonus. We walked right through told them we had an appointment and wanted to look first. They actually had a tons of Prius', which is my boyfriends dream car. After 20 minutes of looking, we found a few options. Now the selling part can be good and bad compared to the dealership. First, they give an awesome appraisal, which is fair and pretty quick. The value was above Kelly blue book recommendation. We didn't have a lot of luck today though because the Prius is a high demand car and either the payments were too high for us or it was being transferred to another location. Also, back to to comparing CarMax to a dealer...the prices and interest rates are very straight forward. There isn't much haggling to get the price down. Which in our case would have been beneficial. All of the cars we looked at were slightly out of our budget. For a Prius though, pretty cheap! Gabby is awesome and we are still holding out for "the one". Supervisor BEWARE: (Customer's do your homework before buying from these guys) Very disappointing with CarMax management. We went in last weekend to try and trade in our current car and purchase a new pre-owned car from them and as most would say, the environment there was low pressure and pleasant. Our sales rep encouraged us to use the 5-day CarMax return policy to drive the car and see what we thought and even take it to our mechanic to see what he/she thought. Well, we took his advise and had our mechanic look at it. Our mechanic found the car in good shape but brought up 3 points, one being that the back 2 tires were UNSAFE and should be replaced. Trusting him but realizing that I should probably get a second opinion, I took the car to America's Tires and asked them to evaluate our tires to see if they should be replaced. The Americas Tires rep confirmed our mechanics report and also stated that the back 2 tires were UNSAFE (outside tread was found to be 2/32 and patch multiple times) and should be replaced. So, I figured that shouldn't be a big deal being that 2 separate entities, one being a tire specialist reported these findings. Well, if you can believe, my sales rep basically said that there was not much that they would be able to do since it met their CarMAx specs but I figured that once a manager saw my documentation and the tires, they would probably concur and error on the side of SAFETY. I spoke to a Daniel who was apparently their floor manager and then Benny who was apparently their mechanical supervisor. Daniel was your typical car sales guy who didn't look credible and did all the things that car salesman get a bad rap for, "hold on one minute, let me check...." 5 minutes later, "no, sorry, we can't blah blah..." I definitely did not find Daniel and Benny for that matter to be at all rationale, they basically just stuck to their specs. They said that at CarMax they stick to the highest STANDARD which is 4/32 of tread for all tires but when it came to this issue, they then went to California vehicle code 605 and stood behind that even though two outside entities told us that those two tires would not last through the summer and were totally UNSAFE for our family of 4. We obviously didn't feel it was right that we would have to purchase 2 tires (which were quite expensive) for a car were were just purchasing, so we walked. Our sales rep dropped us like a hot potato once he realized we were not going with the car and simply moved on to the next person. They would rather let go of a $25000 sale (one that showed it was $3000 over Kelly's Blue Book value for the same car) than see customers at least walk away knowing that their family was SAFE. I bought my car 2013 Nissan Altima Coupe on May 7,2013 .. Everything was good a Month later "check engine" light turns on and another one .. Took it back to Carmax left it there for 4days .. Supposedly it was a censor that was missing.. My warranty covered it so no biggy .. Two weeks ago (a month later ) the same lights turned on again. Like really? I call and make an appointment to take my car in .. I couldn't go to the times they had available so they rescheduled me for the following week.. Going in I stated the fact that I was tired and bothered about having to bring my car so soon.. I understand that cars are cars and can mess up rather quickly .. So I calmed down the guy that helped me walked me to the car and had an mechanic connect my car to a machine it said that the engine light turned on and they were gunna check on it .. I also Asked while I was there that my car shaked while braking .. And the mechanic said "oh and the brake fluid light came up too" .. So Iam over here thinking if I would never had mentioned about the brakes they wouldn't of even checked them .. The guy said He would give me a call later .. He did and said my car would be ready the next day .. I was so happy .. Next day comes and I get a call early in the morning saying that the first time my car was dealt with they had changed the censor out it was an aftermarket censor , that they would send my car to a Nissan dealer and have then insert the original one ... I get no call that day until the next .. Saying my car was ready but they test drove it and the light still turned on.. That they would keep me updated .. Nothing happend.. At this point I was really irritated because I have no way or transportation .. Iam paying out of pocket money for no reason . I get a call and the guy had informed me that my warranty has covered everything but I just had to pay a deductible of $150 .. Like what is this!! Iam without a car going on almost 2 weeks and on top I have to pay . At this point I asked for a Rental , they afford me "affordable" ones but I didn't think it was fare for me to pay so that was taken cared of I just out a down payment of $50 and they would return my money once the car is taken back .. I was fine with that .. But this is nonsense were on Thursday already and I haven't received 1 call! Three times the guy on the phone informed me my car would be ready the following day , I had to speak to my supervisor to inform him I was going to leave early in order for me to pick my car up , but like always the guy calls me in the middle of the day to tell me the bad news that my car isn't ready .. I mean I can't be playing games with my work either ... This is not right .. ALMOST 2 weeks !! Ugh read more

they were very nice on the phone,to make me go there, but they offer me $7000 below wholesale price by this buyer and his name is simon, pls don't go there very bad place my wholsale price was $ 23995 and they offer me $17000 and i saw very similar car that they were selling for $34000 and no hagling please...... people like them that talk bad about regular dealers are the worst. read more
