Terrible customer service IF I COULD GIVE ZERO TRUST!! Walked in at 3:45 as a walk in to put my name down to speak with an agent about purchasing a new car. I got the run around for 3 hours and ultimately never even got helped. Staff were rude and unattentive for the whole experience, went back finally around 7pm (AFTER NO CALL) to be told that I wasn't even on the list to speak with an agent. Multiple staff were unable to give me a reason as to why other walk ins after me were already helped and sat or even what happened to my name on the list. Wish I could give car max a 0. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT SHOP here for a car. TURN AND GO TO A LEGIT DEALERSHIP. I was screwed over not once but twice. The first time I ordered a car paid 300 to get it shipped. Once I got here they RAISED the price I reserved. I showed screenshots of the price and the confirmation codes. It did not make a difference, I had 40,000 ready to spend for this car and they were holding back on a couple thousand that was increased the second it got to Fresno. IT SHOULD NOT BE RAISED WHEN THE CUSTOMER RESERVES IT AND PAYS FOR SHIPPING. I could have purchased it but CARMAX FRESNO promised to hold it at that price for me. I let one of the sales person know I would be in when I was no longer sick. This was my first bad experience. THEY WERE NOT HELPFUL AND RUDE. I did not purchase because I do not like how they went back on their word. The second time I sold my car ready to purchase a car that I reserved and ordered. I went to the test drive after it passed "all the inspections". The second I turned on the car it was making a loud humming noise. They were going to sell me a broken car. I immediately requested this get fixed. I reserved the car from Nevada so the price is lower then California. Its been over 2 months since I have been waiting on this car to get fixed. The staff gives me the run around when I call. They pass me around to a bunch of associates who do not know anything about my situation and give me WRONG INFORMATION. I was told that my car was ready two times when it was not. Every time I would call the phone would get "disconnected" and the person on the other line was too LAZY to call me back after I waited 20-30 minutes on hold to speak to this person. My sales associate is part time and NOBODY will help me when he is not in because he is assigned to my case. WELL GET SOMEONE ELSE LIKE A MANAGER TO CALL ME OR HELP ME OUT WHEN HE IS NOT THERE. They are very lazy. The managers will not call me back. I call daily and nobody can give me an answer. At this moment I have been paying for a rental for months with absolutely no help. THEN I get an email saying my car is no longer reserved after me holding out on this car for months. The sales associate lets me know that sometimes if Car max does not want to pay for the car to get fixed they sell it privately. Really poorly managed. Made an appointment for 6pm to test drive a car. Confirmed through their automated system twice. I get there at 5:50 and am asked to wait to be called by one of the associates. I walk around the lot looking at cars until 6:30, noticing then that they have yet to text or call. I go inside and speak to someone at the front desk and ask if they can tell me how much longer. The gentlemen tells me he's unsure exactly how much longer it will be but that he guesses it will be at least another 45 minutes. He then proceeds to tell me how busy they are. I ask him what's the point of making an appointment. He doesn't know, he says. To me, that's just really bad management. Could this company be run any worse? I just went through the worst buying experience and service experience that I have ever had. Not only did we get a vehicle and six weeks later we had to bring it back but then it was impossible to contact anyone in the service department, in the business department or at the main line. I literally had to call corporate for them to contact CarMax so they would call me back so I could get my car back from them which was three days later. All they had to do was change and oil filter that was clogged because they didn't do the 112 point inspection that they promised to do. Additionally once they gave the vehicle back to us they broke something else so we had to turn right around and spend another hour and a half with them. I have now called corporate three times. The second time they told me that somebody would be contacting me after a few days and they were very concerned about my complaints. A week later nobody had called me. I contacted corporate again and was told we had no intention of contacting you. Seriously... I have used Carmax in the past but you do not want to use Fresno Carmax. Absolutely terrible! Bought a 40k car from them in January only for it to break in June. Bought the maxcare on it and all of a sudden this location won't take the car. Now it's been sitting at chevy for two months rotting (meanwhile I'm STILL making the payments and they havent even started the car yet) and carmax won't even return my phone calls or answer the phone. The manager Jimmy swore to help me only to never hear from again after I left the office. The only time you can talk to someone here is if you go in person. BEWARE OF LEMON CARS. If you have never been, not to ruin the surprise but CarMax's approach is unconventional from the normal car lot. They don't have sales people that are ready to pounce on you as soon as you walk in. My initial experience was good. Went online and got connected with a representative and got started. Found the car I wanted very quickly, paid for it shipped, got financing approved and everything. Very good experience with the first representative. Once the car arrived at my local CarMax, I began working with a new representative to finalize all my necessary documents needed. It was here where I began experiencing trouble. It reached the point where I didn't hear from the representative for more than a day. I called the hotline number just to check in and while I was on hold I was hung up on. Having trouble with communication over the phone, I decided my best option was just do go in person which is what I did. I went into my local CarMax in Fresno, CA and was helped by a lady named Lucy. Lucy was amazing. I explained my situation and she didn't bat an eye, we got right too it and started working through the confusion. Just as we were about done, the manager came out and read me a script basically saying CarMax was refusing my business. I was very confused and given no reason why, all I was told was to call the corporate hotline which I did the next morning. I called the corporate hotline and explained my situation. The representative seemed very understanding and told me I would hear back within 24hrs. I assumed it was a mistake and it would all be resolved.. The next morning I was called back by the corporate representative. He explained to me that unfortunately CarMax has decided to maintain their decision to no longer do business with me. Obviously very confused, I asked for the reasoning. Again, I was denied a reason. I was told "I'm not allowed to speak on this decision". I asked if there was anyone else I could speak to and was also denied that request. If a company wants to deny my business, so be it. You have that right. However, I have NEVER heard of a business denying a customer and giving them ZERO reasoning or indication why. It makes no sense at all. I myself have never had any financial or legal trouble, my credit score is above 750, and not once was I ever rude or disrespectful to a CarMax employee whether it was on the phone or in person. My experience with CarMax was a complete waste of my time and I will make sure to NEVER encourage anyone to purchase a car through CarMax going forward. I bought my car in 2021, 2018 hyundai elantra. Upon buying the car i noticed a chip in the windshield and i had told them i will only buy the car if they fix the windshield, and they agreed. They gave me a work order and everything for it to get fixed. I continued to call back for months asking when they will fix it and the lady who helped me just said "oh let me look into that i'll get back to you" completely a lie. I kept calling and calling and everyone i talked to just said they would look into and get back to me. Now it's been so long i can't even get the new windshield because it's not on "warranty" anymore. I was doing my job by calling and trying to set up the appointment but some of the people who work there don't care at all. We had problems with CARMAX and the vehicle we bought from them in 2016. We were sold a car with a potential rolled odometer, which was shown on the carfax, but we did not realize it until we went to trade it in and, welp, it was worth nothing. Yes, we should have ran a carfax ourselves to make sure everything checked (we were young and naive). They showed us an Autocheck report that said everything was ok. Today we sold that car back to them since no one else would take it. I will say that the amount given was great! The appraisal was fast, and the girl that helped us was awesome! However, the actual selling process was a mess and very long. We were also up to giving them a second chance and wanted to look at vehicles and had two in mind, but the sales person we had an appointment with (His name was Chaira or something close to that) was rude, uninterested, and kinda unprofessional. It felt like he didn't bother with us based on his attitude (which we felt right away) but we were ready to purchase today. ONLY GOT ONE STAR BECAUSE I HAVE TO PUSH ONE TO SUBMIT! I called and got everything setup via phone and email... Uploading a ton of documents drove from South Lake Tahoe to go purchase a vehicle. I had the worst time trying to reach anyone on the phone. In 1 day I was on hold 1 hour 3 times. When I finally got through I was told to come down and pick up my 4 runner. I got there at my appointment time 8:30pm and Freddy first told me sorry it's too late to see us. We insisted and explained we were only there to pick up and pay so he let us stay. Then when the "salesmen" when got assigned (Brian) called us and told us to come in he was not very friendly. He took us to see my 4 runner and then sat us down to go over all the paperwork I submitted the night prior. He started telling is none of our documents were good enough and he would call us tomorrow around 1pm and let us know if we could pick up my 4 runner. I had $7000 cash laid out in the table and was told to come down and get it now you say go pay for a hotel and enjoy FRESNO for a night. The town is a drug addict infested town why do I want to go "see the sights". We were nice and agreed to stay and come back. I asked him if there was anyone else who could help us tomorrow and he said "NO everyone is booked" without even checking first. I was upset leaving without my 4 runner but I was more upset about the lack of care and drive this "salesmen" had to help us purchase our vehicle. This my husband's first car purchase experience and it was less then ok, less then one star. Needless to say we waited a day for him to basically tell is he can't do anything to help us get a car as he threw out document by document stating they were not able to get bank to approve them... If Carmax wants loyal customers, they need to step up their presentation and advertising game. I purchased a 2011 Toyota Sienna 2 years ago. This year, I purchased a 2012 Toyota Sienna. I realized that it has the same issues as the 2011 I purchased 2 years ago. The bumper on the side of the car is sticking out! If you're buying a Sienna with Carmax, be very careful and check for issues and misdescription. 4 issues with the 2012 Sienna we purchased this year: (1) Mistaken description that there is a sunroof-actually does not have a sunroof and I paid $99 to have it transferred because I was actually excited about this one having a sunroof, (2) Windshield wiper broken-keeps skipping, (3) Bumper sticking out-same issue as the 2011 we purchased 2 years ago, (4) Dirty middle row seat that they did not clean-husband removed the middle row seat to put back away in the back and the middle row seat was dirty as you can see in the picture. Because Carmax highly praises themselves on selling the top, highest quality cars, I have high expectations. If I had the car transferred for $99 because I liked that it had a sunroof. This may seem like something small for some but it was something I was excited about because we love to travel and I would have loved to be able to open the sunroof. It's unfortunate though that there was actually no sunroof because whoever did the inspection, incorrectly did it. I do think that's very unacceptable for us car buyers who pay to have the car transferred. Carmax will get a lot of complaints if there were mistakes in what they listed in the description/features is incorrect. It's something that shouldn't have been incorrect because you can clearly visibly tell there's no sunroof lol. And I paid $99 to have it transferred because I liked that it had the sunroof compared to the other Siennas in Fresno. I do appreciate Carmax's willingness to correct the issues but I really think it shouldn't have happened because it's a waste of our time to now have to come back and get it fixed. Especially since Carmax prides themselves in selling high quality cars. Things happen as a business but to incorrectly list a feature in the description, that's a no. If they want us to continue to be loyal Carmax buyers then they need to double check their inspections! I attached all photos of the issues of the car we purchased as well as proof of the incorrect description. ***ALSO: If you don't want Maxcare, MAKE SURE it's not added and financed into your loan! Your sales consultant may have added Maxcare without your knowledge and/or permission. ASK to make sure and to have it taken off if you do not want it! Maxcare was added to my most recent car purchase without my knowledge. I caught the sales consultat mentioning the terms "extended warranty" and had to ask, that's when they told me they added it on (without my permission). I had to tell them to take it off. I never verbally said I wanted Maxcare. I've had it added to my previous 2 cars with Carmax and it's pretty useless; I did not have the best experience with their Maxcare warranty when I filed a claim. From beginning to end, this car buying experience was flawless. My old car was no longer running, and I needed a car as soon as possible. I also knew that I couldn't afford much, and my credit was in rough shape. I checked a few different car dealerships, but Carmax won me over with their quick and efficient way of doing business. I never felt pressured, and felt that both me and my time were respected. The car I wanted was shipped down from Fremont, and that took exactly a week. They went over every inch of the car when it came here and noticed a small trim piece was missing. So they made a repair request right then, and told me when the part came in they would call me and I could bring it in, as it would be very quick to replace. For the first 30 days if I notice anything at all when driving, just take it in and they will fix it. I got a great car, at payments I can afford. My sales person, Brian G. was phenomenal, and very understanding with my impatient texting. I had his cell phone number so he was available to me whenever I had a question. Driving the car off the lot today, I kept repeating, I can't believe I have this car. It's far nicer than any car I've owned, and I cannot say enough about how great this experience was. Thank you Brian, and Carmax! ***Update 2/8/19: I have had to take my car in to get a couple things looked at. Turns out the transmission and axle shaft needed to be replaced. Because I took it in within the first 30 days, both are being replaced at no cost to me, and I have been given a loaner car which is actually an upgraded model of the one I bought. So first I received an email from a 3rd party stating Carmax Fresno had a specialty vehicle that I was looking for, so I call them and get a person that's from out of the area, and then tells me the car is in Colorado.......but can connect me with a salesman to get a price on shipping. I then ask the sales guy if price includes shipping, as it's already $2500 over KBB Dealer pricing, but he informs that there is a shipping fee and there are no price negotiations.
