I immediately initiated a vehicle transfer, but CarMax delayed the arrival and inspection of the vehicle until after the appraisal expired -- a delay entirely caused by them, not me.When I attempted to resolve it, the store offered no accountability, no explanation, and no solution. While the person who I sat down with was courteous, professional, knowledgeable the appraiser was not very thorough. I had my wife stand outside and watch what he did. He started the car opened all the doors in the hatch took photos. Let it run till he was done. I had an envelope with the complete history of all the maintenance done on the car from day one from when I bought it new in the car. He never looked at it. When it came to the appraisal, they depended on his Internet searches. They told me my car had been in an accident in 2019. No accident ever occurred. I had a cracked windshield from a rock replaced at a dealership. The only thing that came up on his search was dealership maintenance. So when I used a third-party oil change company, Grease Monkey that never came up. When I quit going to dealerships and used five star auto a dedicated Subaru private company for my maintenance and replacement of worn out parts, That didn't come up on his Internet searches either. So I give him one star for his thoroughness of his appraisal. Never once did he even speak to me. The person I sat down with talked about my loyalty about the brand that I was looking to sell and showed me other cars of that brand and their prices. Sort of a soft sell. I visited CarMax a few weeks ago to sell a car and it was a fast and easy process. I called ahead and they set me up an appointment so I went there on a Saturday afternoon. I walked in and gave them my keys and they went out, assessed my vehicle, and test drove it. I had an offer in less than 45 minutes. The gentlemen that helped me was really nice and interesting as well. We chatted for a bit while the offer was being constructed. Caution needed when buying a vehicle with these folks, especially if what you're looking at seems unusual, DESPITE how nice the salesman is and how much he tells you this is a great choice. USE COMMON SENSE. Remember, they are there to sell you a car, and once you leave the parking lot, it's yours, even if they do have a 30 day return policy. We looked at a higher mileage sedan some time ago. At first look, all seems well. But then look closer, things didnt seem right. Rear/trunk window seemed off kilter (red flag) and poorly applied. Salesman says this car was in an accident, but 'the airbags didnt go off'. He kept saying that. If the airbags never went off, then why was the rear window installed poorly.... he had no comment and gave us the deer in the headlights look. Said he had 20+ yrs as a car salesman, and good he was! When we sat in it, the cigarette smoke residual was strong. When we asked about it, he said he personally had a very sensitive nose/smell capability, and he didnt smell it... red flag #2. It took us months and numerous attempts to lessen the smell. It also had higher end wheel replacements... little did we know there was no wheel key with these, and we ended up driving/calling all over town to find/purchase a wheel key. And, no spare tire or inflation kit. They did send us a kit, later on. Bottom line is this... use common sense. We have now found a host of issues with this vehicle, typical of high mileage cars. AND, to top it off, the trip to the county office to register it provided an unwelcomed surprise... they initially did not want to register the vehicle, as they said it had been back and forth between NE and IA too many times, and there were irregularities in previous titles. We were there 2 hours, and they finally caved and gave us a new NE title. So, surprises lurk after, EVEN if they say you/they are applying for a new title.... interesting twist. BUYER BEWARE. Its like putting your head in the alligator's mouth to see if something happens. read more

I went to CarMax to test drive and was approved for a vehicle, I had an appointment to come back and finish the sale and they would not hold the car. I still came back and purchased another vehicle. 32 days later the check engine light comes on, they keep my car 5 days with no word from them despite my multiple calls. Then when I pick up the vehicle the check engine light comes back on on my way home. I took it back in the next morning at 7:30 am and the service guy refuses to give me a loaner despite the fact he can't get my car in to take a look at it until 2:00pm. We had to wait 4 hours to get our car that we picked out and already had paperwork done on. Windshield wipers immediately broke off the first time we used them on the highway and we almost got into a crash because we could not see because of the rain. I moved to a new city and I have been trying since Oct 15 2023 to get my electronic title that is financed through carmax business services in Kennesaw Ga. today January 15 on my 4th call this comapany still cannot give me an answer to where my title copy is that needs to be transferred from Kansas to Nebraska. the licenses for my car went out of date on November 30 th and frankly all my calls to carmax and requests to talk to supervisors has not done anything. I have now driven for 45 days without current licenses. the call today to Carmax was met with a service rep who was not nice, quite flippant and frankly did not care. I asked for supervisor and was put on hold for 5 minutes and he came back and told me he couldn't find a supervisor. my DMV sent a letter to Carmax auto finance on November 14 2023 and still no response. I went to local Carmax and the business office said they can't help me. no service, poor management and lack of follow through on $20k plus purchases. do not buy here, you will not get any service and for sure do not buy their expensive warranty that simply uses the warranty already on your purchased vehicle read more

Went to the Omaha Carmax lot because we were looking for something to do socially distant (and to check a car that's now pending). Around 10 PM. Why the security guard come on the Loud speaker with the "Attention!": blah blah blah, we closed. Post that then, that you have no access after hours. You're a car dealership. People come after hours. And I don't need the long winded explanation of you like get out over speaker. We came looking at your luxury cars. For a non luxury experience. And then some cars have been unavailable for sale for a week which is what made us stop by to see. I mean I guess it's Car Max but disappointed in them. read more

This place is the WORST. No seriously, it was the worst car shopping experience I've ever had, hands down. I had an appointment with sales rep Andrew Elledge, who SEEMED like a great guy over the phone and via email, unfortunately he was not. He not only promised to hold a car for me and failed to do so, but he also stood me up at my appointment time! He seems to love wasting people's time. As I stated, I had an appointment with Andrew. I arrived promptly on time to find out that Andy was tied up with another client. This isn't a big deal, but I found it odd. He knew I was coming, why get tied up with something before? Whatever, I don't mind walking the lot and waiting. So I'm walking the lot for about 10 minutes when Jeff approaches me. Jeff explains that Andy won't have time to get to me today, but he is happy to assist me. Perfect! I explain to Jeff that I've had multiple conversations with Andy about a specific car. I understand Andy has put the car on hold for me, and I'm interested in test driving it. Jeff is happy to help so we get on our way. So Jeff grabs the necessary info from me for a test drive and we walk back onto the lot. This is where things turned south. Jeff looks in this row, then Jeff looks in that row, then Jeff tells me he can't find the car. I explain that Andy has put a hold on the car, he and I have spoken about it upwards of 5 times. It must be here somewhere. Jeff understands and goes to ask Andy where the car is. Fast forward 10 minutes, Jeff reappears. He apologizes, not only is the car not on the lot, but it has been SHIPPED... Shipped where? Another Carmax dealership. Well that's frustrating. Why didn't you call me and tell me you shipped it? Wasn't it supposed to be held for me? Now they've wasted my time. I wouldn't have come to their dealership if they didn't have the car. How the heck does this all happen? I'm not sure. I never received an explanation or an apology. I simply walked away from the dealership. This experience and lack of organization, explanation, and empathy has led me to believe that this place is an ABSOLUTE joke. Don't waste your time or your money here read more

Their a no haggle, no hassle they are completely upfront over everything and never felt as if anything was unclear. They go over every detail and work for you as best they can. My last sell I had an out of state title that made things difficult, but explained everything and we were able to eventually get things done, for a honestly fair price. A 9 year old car with normal age issues is not 1/2 of poor condition. I feel sorry for anybody that gets taken advantage by these people in selling their car to them. I have purchased a car with CarMax before and that's why I returned for another car. I had the worst experience ever. I saw a car I liked on their website that was located in Illinois and after talking with their sales rep got it transferred to the Omaha branch. The transfer, test drive, trade-in and purchase all went smoothly or so I thought. Two weeks after purchase I called them because they I hadn't received the necessary documentation to register my car. I had some urgency because I had to leave the country in a couple of weeks and wanted everything with the DMV and the bank beforehand. They assured me that not enough time had passed and it would get to me in plenty of time. I hadn't received anything the third week, so I called again. They said it was strange but it would still make it. After I called a third time, they finally looked in their system and saw that the title transfer between Illinois and Nebraska had failed the previous week! They hadn't found this until I called them. By this time the 30 days required for the DMV and my bank had passed. They essentially sold me a car without a title. I had one more week before I had to leave the country. They gave me a rental car and said they would expedite it should be done in a couple of days. A day before I'm supposed to leave, I call them again. They tell me it failed once again, but would be done once I got back. After I got back 10 days later it still had not come through. The issue didn't finally get resolved until 2 months after I purchased the car. Half of that time I didn't have possession of my car. So not only did they have the money for the car, they also had my car. Now this was all a bad experience but I understand things like that can happen when dealing with cars over state lines. What made the situation even worse was the terrible customer service that I received from Carmax over the entirety of the ordeal. I was assigned Lee, a manager, as a point of contact for the situation. Not only did I have to initiate every update of information, he also seemingly avoiding talking to me. I called several times and after hearing his coworkers state that only Lee knew the situation and they would have him call me back, he NEVER did. Then he would make excuses of why he hadn't. After the whole situation finally resolved, I asked what the company would do to rectify how everything was handled. He tried to claim that the rental car was sufficient. I told him I wouldn't have needed a rental car, if my title was handled sufficiently. I finally ended up with $100 in oil change credit. That's the "best" he could do. If I hadn't already fell in love with the car and the value I got it at, I would have ended the deal right there. So while not having my car was bad, the customer service was truly the worst. For a store that claims to have its customers best interest, I found that effort severely lacking. I will never purchase a car from here again. read more

Great Experience Overall. However, I have to only give three stars because CarMax did not include the full price of the licensing/taxes in my loan amount. My finance company had to rewrite the entire loan and issue me a check for an additional $900. When I contacted CarMax about this, they said that if they finance the vehicle, they will only pay a portion. However, I had my own finance company, yet they failed to tell me that. So, it is something to be aware of and it turned out to be a bit of an ordeal for both myself and my loan company. Other than that, everything else was perfect and we love our new car!!! read more

CarMax was an awesome place to buy a car. I got my Equinox there 3 years ago and have said I would always go through them. Today... was a different story. We had an appointment at 12 for servicing. I was under the impression it would take an hour. I had my two small children, we gladly went to Taco John's to pass the time. When we got back to the service center, they said the problem was minor and it wouldn't be long. Ok, no big deal, we can hang for a bit. That wasn't the problem. The service was taking so long (still not that big a deal) that I needed to nurse my baby. Normally I'm ok with nursing in public, but it's just this huge open show room-- nobody (me, baby, other patrons) really wants that. So I asked a WOMAN (on purpose) if I could nurse in an office that I could tell the owner had the day off. She said no and there's a chair in the bathroom for that. Oh, you mean the soiled plastic chair I saw while changing my kids? Where others were pissing and shitting? No thanks. Especially with my 3 year old in tow. Car buying and servicing takes time--Carmax, do better. Have a lactation area so women can feed their babies (most of whom need quiet, non distracting areas to eat). Again, nothing against Carmax in general (they were apologetic about the time, washed my car, friendly about what my next steps should be, and ultimately let me nurse in that office), but get with the program. You know these things take time, please accommodate mothers and babies in order to keep your customers satisfied. read more

I just bought my 3rd car at the Omaha Car Max. I looked around but realized that I had such great experiences at Car Max I didn't want to try to buy a car else where. I watched the site for the cars I was looking for for several months. I ended up ordering a car in from Missouri to look at. It didn't cost me anything for them to hold it. I also had them hold another car I was interested in driving. I did this all through the app. Brayton reaches out to offer assistance. He was not pushy and really wanted to understand what my needs were. The day I went in to test drive he was very patient as I kept looking at different cars. Overall my experience was ok. A couple of suggestions however is better communication between the sales person and the customer during the process. Also drove my Nissan Murano off the lot and found out that there was no SD card which is a factory stock item in the vehicle. When I called Carmax to see if they could order one I was told someone would call me back and that has been a week and a half ago with no response. I would have thought one of the techs would've checked out a pretty straightforward issue where the radio, clock, and phone syncing didn't work. We liked our salesman very good. He was great. We had our grandkids & he even helped with them. We were told it would only take a short time to drive away in our car but it took 2 1/2 hrs. I felt this was a little long. We were told the fluids would be topped off but they weren't. It was low on washer fluid & transmission fluid when we got home. There was also a dent in the back bumper that we did not notice & it was not pointed out to us. I feel it should have been. There was some confusion over tax & plates because we are from Iowa & this business is in NE. We did receive a refund check a few weeks later. We were told that CarMax does a 125 point check on all cars. I don't believe this was done on our purchase because our air filter was completely plugged. The filter for the interior was also plugged. We love our car. I also like that they took your picture with a big yellow bow. read more

We were told every car in lot has been completely inspected. The first car we got into would not move because of steering issue. The car we purchased is great. Purchase was very slow. We paid cash for car and had to log into our checking account in middle of the show floor and had to wait for manager to come look at our balance. I understand verifying we can pay but usually the dealer confirms with the bank. We were very unhappy to have to show our personal account information on a public computer. We liked our salesperson and he did best as he could but manager and coworkers were unwilling to help when he had questions. read more

We found a car we liked after completing a 24 hour test drive. We went to the dealership in the morning to purchase the vehicle and let them know we had been pre-approved through our bank for the loan. We just needed the proper paperwork from them to finalize things. This took place on a Saturday, once they heard we wouldn't have the check til Monday they told us they couldn't/wouldn't hold the car over the weekend and insisted we finance with them. The interest rate offered was twice what we were offered by our bank. When we asked again if they could hold the car, they said "no, we are done here". Supposedly the manager was very confident they would sell the car over the weekend. Although, he never attempted to have a conversation with us to try and salvage the sale. We also had driven the carmax car to the lot and had no means of getting home. So as we sit waiting for our uber...you would think they would try and offer some sort of customer service, nope...not the case. Low and behold, they didn't sell the car and called us twice the next week asking if we were still interested. CarMax is definitely not interested in building a long term relationship with its customers. It is a churn and burn process. I was just in recently to possibly buy a vehicle that I had paid to have transferred. Before I even looked at the vehicle I had them give me an appraisal on my vehicle. They said my very was in good condition and even showed me the KBB value of it which I had already looked at before I got there. I was appalled when they offered me 8K less of what the bottom KBB value was. When I asked how the sales person responded with they don't go of KBB and that they were the only one's buying cars right now. Yes they are, because I left their place and went to Infiniti of Omaha a few weeks later which is right near them and purchased a vehicle from them with a good trade in offer (I got 9K more then what Carmax offered). Here getting a quote on the sale of a vehicle. On the one hand, you can sell vehicles privately and, in theory, get a better price. The catch is, what is your time worth? A year ago I decided to do some research and find what dealership would give the best price to purchase a vehicle I had. Regardless of what they could sell it for, no one came close to what CarMax could offer. This was not an NADA price, but those are often inflated and do no take into account a person's willingness to market and do all they can to attract the best price. Maybe money gets left of the table, but if it takes you months of marketing and fees to services, are you really coming out ahead? read more

Four people told me to go to Carmax when I said I needed a new car and fast and they were completely correct. At first, I was a little eeked out - buying a car is kind of a big thing. But Carmax was not what I expected even a little bit. I thought I was going to go in and it would be a hassle and some scary guy would be all...well, scary. But we went in and talked to Bob and he was great. No pressure, he didn't try to get me into too much car (despite the fact that I came pre-financed) and he was super-patient and it was a really great experience. The back office staff was also great - very professional and friendly and got us taken care of quite efficiently. I ended up with a great little car for not a lot of money and it was very easy.
