I had an excellent experience working with Nate. He was knowledgeable, and genuinely focused on helping me find the right car rather than just making a sale. He took the time to answer all of my questions, explained everything clearly, and made the entire process smooth and stress-free. I never felt pressured, and he made sure I was comfortable with every step of the process. Buying a car at this CarMax location was actually an enjoyable experience. I highly recommend asking for Nate if you're looking for someone who truly cares about his customers.

Messy filter and oil splatter everywhere, not properly cleaned & sealed

There is a huge distinction between drivable versus safe. We recently went to the CarMax in Kearny Mesa San Diego to purchase a 2022 Mini Cooper Countryman. Specs looked good & checked out on paper, and so we took it out for a test drive. We were told by three different reps (Marcello, Noel & Daniel) that the vehicle being sold to us was deemed safe due to their "CarMax standards & 125-point multi inspection". As any reasonable & responsible person would do, we opted to take the vehicle to our own service technician - Mack with Sd Mini Garage - a certified Mini specialist to perform a post-purchase inspection. Unfortunately, he found several issues - three of which involve major safety concerns - a broken engine mount, a cracked hydraulic mount, and all 4 tires showing dry rot (with one tire having a nail/staple lodged right into the tread). We presented the full inspection report & recommendations to the car service rep Noel. After their review, we were ultimately told the only thing they would replace was the broken engine mount - they rejected ALL of the other recommendations from our inspection - including the cracked hydraulic mount & tires. We were told the "tires are good, tread is fine, minor cracks here & there are just cosmetic. As for the nail/staple, we'll have our tech check to see if we can just remove it and do a patch job." They immediately referred to their "CarMax standards & 125-point multi inspection" (again), giving us a rundown why they can't & won't replace the tires, nor take care of all the other recommendations. Because of that, we were willing to compromise and not pursue the other issues that our tech found - just the major ones involving safety. I kindly asked if we can get a written guarantee that the tires are indeed safe, since their technicians deemed it to be SAFE. They said no, they can't. I then asked would you risk the safety of you or your family by getting in the car and driving it, knowing full well that the integrity of the tires are potentially compromised? Noel again said no, he wouldn't. So why on earth then would you refuse to correct that safety concern, and continue trying to sell us or anyone else this car? I believe that these concerns were reasonable and valid, and fixing them was very attainable. Noel instead offered for us to buy a whole set of new tires at their cost - yes, that was the alternative. We politely declined, and it was then we decided we no longer want the car and will return it. He directed us to Daniel the sales manager to begin the process for the return. He of course asked us why we were returning the car, and after explaining to him the entire situation, he again recited the whole "CarMax standards & 125-point multi inspection" spiel back to us (if anything, they are at least consistent). Daniel had also boasted that he himself was a tire expert because of his time working at a WalMart tire center, claiming he can instantly tell if the tire needs replacing just by looking at it, as well as pinpoint with exactness how old the tire is. Maybe this will be the one guy who can FINALLY work with the paying customer. The car was parked just outside his office and so the "tire expert" offered to take a look, accompanied by Noel. He literally comes back in 30 seconds and says "I can't overrule what the technicians over here say because I'm in Sales" - that's it, that's all he said. It's unfortunate, they lost business, lost credibility, and of course lost any hope of us ever returning there. We are now out $765 ($149 shipping and $616 for the PPI) for a car they never should have sold. Again - drivable does NOT mean SAFE. Know when to walk away.

My wife and I had a very positive experience selling our car here. We filled out the online questionnaire about the condition of our car as best and honestly as we could, and got an inital quote. We then made an appointment to take it in within the week on a Saturday. A few days before, we got the car cleaned inside and out, and took out all of our belongings. When we got to this CarMax we were able to quickly find parking in the customer parking garage and walked into building where some folks directed us to the business center space where we needed to check in. There were two people ahead of us in the checkin line, but it only took a few minutes. Once we checked in, we waited in the room for about 15 minutes before we were called in to sign papers. We thought the wait would be much longer with the packed waiting room, but we figured most of the other people were walk-ins. When we were seated, we were told that someone had already inspected our car and that everything looked good to them. We were surprised since we thought they would try to nitpick and lower our online quote. However, once we signed a few papers and the title away, they gave us a check for the original quote amount. The person who helped us was very friendly and they even called us a lyft back home. Our entire visit lasted 40 mins. We deposited the check into our account the same day. Everyone is happy!

I went in on President's day. They were packed since open and it was raining like crazy. Miajane helped me get in and out, including a trade-in, in just over 2 hours. Very professional and considerate throughout the process. Painless process. They also let me do my test drives solo. I highly recommend Carmax.

Sold us a lemon and then avoided us like the plague when we needed something even after purchasing their warranty.

    How was service dept?

Service department is AWFUL. They don't answer the phone, I called two different days and left two separate voicemails requesting a call back and never did anyone return my call. Previously when I tried to make an appointment several months ago…

I had a very disappointing experience with Driveo when I tried to sell them my truck…read more Driveo initially offered me $17,000. I also received an offer from Carvana for $17,400, and Driveo told me they would match Carvana's offer. Driveo sent an inspector to inspect my truck and told me I would receive their offer before the end of the day. I never received it. Four days later, I received an email from Driveo saying they were ready to buy my truck and asking me to schedule an appointment. I contacted the inspector and told him that I was still waiting for the offer. He then told me the offer was $14,250. I immediately rejected it. He apologized and said he had made a mistake and that the offer was actually $15,250. I rejected that as well. Then, within approximately 30 minutes of texting, the offer changed again to $16,000. The next day, I asked what their final and confirmed offer was. I was told $15,650. So, after initially offering $17,000 and telling me they would match Carvana's $17,400 offer, the numbers kept changing: $14,250 $15,250 $16,000 $15,650. This was extremely frustrating and, in my experience, felt like a game rather than a straightforward vehicle-buying process. I wasted several days dealing with changing offers and inconsistent communication. I would not recommend Driveo to anyone looking for a straightforward and transparent offer for their vehicle.
