Called to get information about buying a car, Woman asked for my name and telephone number. I was reluctant providing personal information. The individual became hostile, rude and threatening, then hung up. I tried to call back several times and she kept hanging up! Really??? Horrible way to treat a potential customer! 4-19-23 after filling out on-line information concerning my car, received email stating download documents to make the transfer go quicker. Sent all documents requested even spoke to Carmax twice nit once did anyone say we don't take lease car's. Had car toad to Carmax which they knew that also. TJ introduced me to Connor Z office Mgr explained the situation and reimbursement. Sent via email, text and faxed towing receipt to date CZ or anyone from Carmax. Went to purchase a car. Entire process was a nightmare! Staff was no properly trained and had to redo my paperwork for my loans multiple times. Then they damaged the vehicle I was purchasing and lied about the extent of the damage. At time of purchase I was told back windshield was broken. And this was due to an employee being impatient and driving the vehicle into their service garage while the door was closing and it closed on the back of the new vehicle. Once I was lied to I was then pushed off onto another sales associate cause the one I was working with couldn't stay any later. The new person was told nothing almost didn't charge me my deposit and the process took over 2 hours after the hand off. I was then given a loaner vehicle that they left the keybox on the car off and I had to have them removed it before I left. Then I get an update on the car a day later to be told now there is more damage and the back windshield wiper is broken. And that they have to replace that. Then I don't hear anything all weekend and on the following week they are now replacing the entire tailgate. I have technically now owned a damaged vehicle for over a week that I have not driven once!!! I was lied to about the damage at time of purchase. And now they are saying they will only reimburse me for one payment and the gas I put into the loaner even though they caused more damage to the car that dropped the value of the vehicle. We came here to sell our car as we were short on time and didn't want to deal with the hassle of a private sale, and I was pleasantly surprised by the experience. Everyone was friendly and they greet you immediately when you walk in. We made an appointment ahead of time, but we arrived early and they were able to accommodate us right away (it is huge inside!). First they do a walk around of your car and you hand them your key so that the appraisers can take it for a spin and check out the condition of the vehicle inside & out. The staff member then takes you back inside, explains the process to you, then you wait for the results of the appraisal to come in. Appraisal should take less than 30 minutes, and I'm pretty sure they got back to us within 15 minutes. The salesperson walks you through the results of the appraisal, including the features and conditions they marked for your vehicle and then presents you with their offer. This offer is good for 7 days at any CarMax location. We were expecting to get lowballed, like most dealerships do when you sell a used car (even those in really good condition), but were genuinely shocked by the very fair offer they gave us. Given that it was a fair deal, we took the offer and walked right on over to the business center to sell the car. The paperwork took about 10-15 minutes and then bam, you've sold your car and they've handed you the bank note. They make copies of all the paperwork you sign and make sure to talk you through the finer details too. They also make sure to ask you if you might have left any personal belongings in the vehicle (phone charges, garage openers, etc), which was super thoughtful. We were in and out in just over an hour, without any pushiness or haggling that you normally get from dealerships or private sales. Having never sold a vehicle to CarMax before (we've only done private sales before), it was quite nice to have such a seamless, professional, and hassle-free experience. If your car is in pretty good condition, you'll likely get a very fair offer for your vehicle, so if you're selling a used car, definitely give CarMax a try. Given that you have a week to decide, you can certainly still take the offer and shop around to try to get more from other parties too. read more

Can't believe this company is in business. No one ever answers their phone. I'm wondering if anyone really works there. If an operator does pick up, your call gets sent to an answering system of which no return call. This company brought one of their cars to a dealership to be fixed ,but we are unable to collect or talk to someone for a resolution. Shame on you! I couldn't post this without a rating. Buyer beware... I bought a car a year ago with the extended warranty, I haven't needed much repairs since so I never used it but this month I needed to use the warranty and come to find that what the guy told me was untrue and the paperwork I signed isn't the paperwork they have in the system. He lied about the total cost of the car and it was actually my finance company that stepped up and made them fix it, when I spoke with the corporate office they backed up their sales people and said I was lying even though the State of Ohio and my finance company both had to step in about the price(all 3 of us being told different amounts) they are lying to consumers to sell cars and then try to hide behind lemon laws, well guess what I have recorded conversations and all the paperwork to prove fraud! read more

They sell you a car and then they drop the ball. We had a 30 day tag provided with our purchase. The time ran out before we got the actual license plates and it was all but impossible to get a renewal from them. They NEVER ANSWER THE PHONE. If I could give minus one stars, I would! I brought my car here to be appraised. It had been running fine. Shortly after I brought it there, multiple alert lights came on. I brought it back, thinking that they could just reset something to get them to turn off. Not only were they not able to help me, but they printed out my experion report, circled a line item from 2012 , and told me they could take no responsibility because I had "pre-existing electrical system problems" from 6 years ago!!! This was completely painless, they gave me a great and fair offer for my vehicle, told me the price was good for a week and invited me to shop my car around. Car max was the best offer by a few hundred dollars, I came back with their original offer and they bought my car. No hassle, no wait and a great overall experience. I have purchased 3 vehicles now from various CarMax locations in different states. I have to say that I am always happy that I did. This one is pretty new to the scene and is in an awkward location, but worth the trip. The inventory is still a little limited but if you find a vehicle at another CarMax in Ohio for the most part, they will ship it to Cleveland without charge. We did go in one evening and it was the first stop on our research tour. We found a truck that we liked but told them we were still shopping. They asked when we thought we would be making a decision. We let them know and the sales guy pulled the vehicle off the list and scheduled an appointment. It was no pressure, it was just so that no one else could see the truck in the inventory until we were done shopping. A few days later we came back to make the purchase. It took 2 hours from the time we showed up to the time I drove away. We had a trade in and received what we were expecting. Keep in mind that basically they are buying your old car, so when you make the deal, it is gone, even though you have 5 days to change your mind. You did sell yours. :-) They do provide some opportunity to upsell but it is all in line with the market, so you are not really getting pressured to pay too much. And in some cases, you can come back and get the add on' if you are paying cash (e.g. leather seat covers to replace cloth). read more

Can't speak to the buying process, but did have a great experience selling a car. I think CarMax is a great option if you have an older car that you don't want to bother selling it on your own and if you think the trade in value isn't going to be that high. First, I loved that this place was clean, professional, and efficient. The appraisal was easy to schedule online. I even showed up early and they were able to see me right away. The salesperson explained their process to me clearly and there was no pushiness that you feel at times at car dealerships. The appraisal didn't take long (less then 30 min) and they explained to me what they docked the appraisal for (such as scratches on the car, rust, etc). You get a week to decide if you want to sell the car after the appraisal. I was pleased with their offer as I knew my car needed work and new tires. I ended up coming back and walked out with a check in under 45 minutes. I found this process much easier than having to sell it online and dealing with potential buyers. The problem is I feel that I am wasting my time because, although what they are doing is not illegal. They have done some things, besides Wasting my time that make me question that. I was willing to wait a little longer due to the covid safety. They refused to replace the bulb in my fiat 500x that I purchased from them. I had went to several other places no one knew how this particular car can be fixed. The conclusion is either its a fuse or wiring. They all recommend me taking it back to the dealer I purchased it from. They refused to fix it there, even though I was willing to take a future scheduled wait. Now my carmax purchased car does not look nice. I did not mind paying for my services I just need to have someone who knows how to fix a fiat with minor issues..‍ no one is familiar with that type of car.. carmax really didnt value my car after the purchase. read more

Short story: I highly recommend for their friendly and knowledgeable customer service, as well as the fast & hassle free process! Long story: I recently bought a used car, and the dealership recommended I go to CarMax to trade in my old vehicle to get the best price. Upon entering, I was immediately greeted by a friendly staff member who got my quote rolling quickly. The wait wasn't long, but during the inspection there was a clean, comfortable seating area with TVs and a beverage station to relax in. The quote I got back was fair for the age and condition of my car, and I decided to execute. From there, the process was fast and efficient, with another friendly staff member guiding me through the paperwork. She ensured I was comfortable before signing away the title -- which I was! Upon conclusion, I was given all of my documents and receipts in an organized folder, and they went out with me to inspect the car one last time to make sure I hadn't forgotten any of my belongings. What more could you ask for? A+! read more

I would not recommend CarMax if it was the last of two dealerships on Earth. I am more than disappointed with myself for thinking I was paying more for their service. By that, I mean I could have bought the same car with a bit less miles and much cheaper. Actually, I could have bought a newer version with equal or less miles. I bought this one because I was sold on the warranty and service CarMax offers. What a load! My issues with CarMax are extensive; I will just say, I brought my car in for the same issue THREE times within a couple months of ownership! It was almost like they didn't believe there was a problem. On the third appointment, they tried to get me to pay them for the repairs although it should have been covered under dealer warranty because I hadn't even had the vehicle for 90 days! Coming from somebody who buys a car at least every other year, for one reason or another, this was the worst car buying experience I've had. I regret not sticking with the dealership I have always gone through. I wanted to try something new, and was hoping to make it my forever dealership due to its' wide variety of vehicles. I cannot wait for the moment I am rid of this vehicle CarMax sold me. I have had issue after issue. They act like they will help (in form of email) then dead silence. I will never purchase another vehicle from here again. I have talked so many people out of buying cars from here, and I will continue to do so. Save yourself the headache! I had a front strut issue going into the purchase ... and nearly a month later now, I need to report how it all turned out. When I detected a problem (noise) during our test drive of the 2011 Hyundai Azera Limited, Carmax had two different techs check it out and neither found the issue. But I was told I had the standard 30-day bumper-to-bumper warranty and could have my mechanic check it out ... and that if he found the problem, I should just have him call my service advisor. He did, and he called Carmax with the diagnosis and estimate. The next day, my mechanic replaced the fully loaded strut (along with the stabilizer bar) and Carmax paid the $235 on the spot (once we faxed them the final invoice). So, Cleveland East CarMax gets my highest rating for being true to their word and making it easy for me. Afterwards, my mechanic (the service shop owner) and I discussed how that was a great business decision by Carmax and how we'd both pass this experience along to other potential Carmax customers. After visiting multiple places in Bedford, and dealing with salesmen as they had to look up the price and get keys to any car we were slightly interested in, we decided to try Carmax. It was great. The cars are all unlocked, and the prices are listed on the vehicles. There's no need to deal with the salesmen until you decide what you want to do. The only time anyone interacted with us was to offer us water while we looked, and we were fine with that. The lot is organized by size of car and make of car. Very cool. The buying process was smooth and quick. The place is clean and welcoming. We didn't opt for the bow and picture, but it's nice to have that as an option. I was told I would be offered a certain amout for my lease buyout to lure me in... little did I know carmax would also charge me hidden fees and not be able to offer clear explaniations as to why. When I expressed my frustration and showed documentation of the correct price the service representatives gawked at me like a deer in the headlights, proclaiming: "leases are difficult." When I offered a logical alternative to why the price was different (15 day closing period) and asked to fix the discrepency I was met with a shrug and told "I don't know our system will only allow the closing peirod quote for 1.5 months." I tried to purchase a vehicle online for the first time and it did not go well. Quick summary: I got approved for Carmax Auto Financing with my almost 800 credit score, then I paid for the shipping cost so that I can pick up at their nearest location to me, then (2-weeks later) I finally got the notice that it's ready for pick up, then I got a call from the sales manager that he can't proceed with the transaction and to call their customer relations, then I called online to be told that they can't sell me ANY carmax vehicle, at all! When I asked 'why' there was no reason provided whatsoever except that "Carmax reserves the right to refuse sale to anyone" but when I asked for a copy of that policy they could not provide that either. So at this point I'm just lost and confused and have no idea what just happened, or what I did. So please don't let this happen to you. My husband and I thought we discovered a gem in car sales, only to find the exact opposite. If you value excellent customer service and a fair deal, DO NOT go to this CarMax location!! We made an appointment with Molly for 6:45pm. When we showed up at 6:30pm, we were told she was not available but someone else would help (by Ron the sales manager.). We were passed to the next salesperson that sat with us a few seconds, took our personal information and then said to sit tight and he would get us a quote. In the interim, he took another customer and passed us off to yet another salesman that told us he would find us to deliver our quote and to go ahead and look outside at their vehicles for sale. I think we sat at four different tables. After we walked around the lot, the sales manager comes up and introduces himself like he had not seen us before and said the last person now had a customer and he would give us our quote. Aren't we customers? Didn't we even arrive early? The SALES MANAGER then proceeds to give us this ludicrous appraisal on our car. I am being perfectly honest and unbiased. He offered us $9,500 on a car we paid $15,900 for six months earlier, when a local dealership offered thousands more. It was humorous as he told us a tale about no inventory to compare, no 2014 Cruze at any auctions where they buy cars, etc. Hello? You have a 2014 Cruze on your lot without a moonroof, Pioneer Sound System, tinted windows or leather seats for $14,900. Walk outside and look. Obviously, my husband and I did not say any of this because it was clear we had wasted two hours of our time visiting CarMax. Not sure which is more frustrating, the lack of customer service from the Sales Manager down or their silly quote. Attempted to have CarMax appraise my used vehicle based on their marketing of this opportunity. The process of scheduling and conducting an appraisal was actually quite simple. However, having done my homework on the vehicle's value, I could not have been more disappointed in the actual CarMax appraisal of the vehicle. The vehicle was in EXCELLENT condition with low mileage. To my shock, the appraisal came in 35% below Kelley Blue Book and 60% less than what they are currently selling the comparable vehicle for on their own website. Seller beware--- CarMax is seeking 100%+ gross profit on the resale of your vehicle. You can do much better selling your vehicle on your own. read more

I give CarMax Cleveland location a 1 because the sales representative I had at the Cleveland location was horrible. Don't get me wrong I like the company, not the rep I had. His name is Curtis and I kept giving him my details. He wasn't paying attention when I was talking to him, I had to constantly repeat myself and my information to him, he was assisting other customers while I was waiting for him, did not call me back (even though he said he did), ran my credit way more times than necessary and didn't bother to tell me he sent the car back. I called 4 times looking for him so I could close the deal, left messages, sent an email and it took him until the next day (and a review) for him to call me back to tell me he sent my car back. If you live in the Cleveland area and choose CarMax for a car, great choice! If you get Curtis as your sales rep, RUN! He is NOT helpful and will not dedicate himself to getting you into your car. read more
