Of the four "tourist maps" in Carmel, The Carmel Treasure Map is clearly the best. It is a…read more"painting disguised as a map", made by a local artist, Lisa Bryan. The map is unique in that it is composed of the artist's original watercolor paintings of buildings and sights in Carmel. Rather than a bland, utilitarian delineation of the village, it depicts the village's character and is extremely useful. For example, if a visitor is lost or confused, he or she needs merely to look at an adjacent building than then find it on the map to discover their location. All of Carmel's hidden courtyards, paths, and cut-throughs between streets are depicted, giving a visitor the ability to fully enjoy the charms of the village. Also, ATMs, pubic restrooms, and parking are clearly depicted, as are dog-friendy establishments, locations of parks, outdoor dining, wine tasting, and music, plus others. The map also has contact information and locations for most businesses in the village, plus ones in the surrounding area. The back of the map also depicts the coast down to Big Sur, the rest of the Monterey Peninsula, and Carmel Valley. Rather than being discarded at the end of a visit to Carmel, many people take the map home as a memento of their visit and a tool to plan a future one.

My husband didn't love the bed but perhaps he just has a sensitive preference for his back. the rooms were swanky but small but we didn't mind it for 2 nights only. we spent a lot of time enjoying the nice weather outside. One of the more expensive rooms on property, the courtyard 'suite,' is adjacent to the lounge area, so we heard conversation right outside our window until after 10pm. There was no effort to ask the group to move to another spot that would have been less disruptive, despite my ask to the front desk. We were charged $50 extra per child for our family of 2 adults and 2 children for a suite that has two rooms and two king beds. They have 4 charging stations for EV's, however parking is not enforced. There were non EV vehicles parked in those spaces the entirety of brief stay, so unfortunately we were inconvenienced by not being able to charge at a planned stopping point on our road trip. Next time I come to Carmel I'll be researching alternatives.

We booked one of the double rooms with a fireplace. While the room itself was fine, the walls and ceilings are extremely thin. From around 9pm to 1:00 AM, we could clearly hear footsteps from the room above us, along with conversations. It didn't seem like the guests upstairs were being intentionally disruptive -- it felt more like an issue with how the property is built and the lack of sound insulation. We did call the front desk and asked if they could notify the guests upstairs. After that, they were more mindful of their steps, which we appreciated, but we could still hear them trying to whispering. We chose this property because we were looking for a peaceful place to rest, reset, and enjoy quiet evenings. Unfortunately, that was not our experience. For the amount we paid for a weekend stay, we expected much better soundproofing and overall comfort. Sadly, we won't be returning or recommending this property to our family or friends.

The homemade breakfast is amazing - warm mini-quiches, yummy pastries, yogurt & berries. Don't go crazy on the cookies and pastries here though- I did and experienced the horrible sugar crashes everyday, sob. The rooms are adorable, clean, and updated - with the most cozy beds too. The staff members are also the sweetest. Sandy is wonderful and make sure to say hi to Butters too, her adorable pup. Walkable to downtown Carmel & easy parking.

It was also wonderful having a fireplace in the room. The room has a Zen like ambience which is nice. Now the not so good: We were on the first floor and struggled to sleep because we could hear 1000 footsteps above us. It's almost like the ceiling was made of paper. This was rough. We could hear everyone walking all over the place. We were shocked that the room did not come with a refrigerator. It came with a cooler, but not a refrigerator, which is very strange because it's important to have a refrigerator in every room. We had to throw away a lot of leftover food because it could not be preserved in the room. The parking is not great. You would have to park on the streets. Also, the breakfast is not really a breakfast. It was more like a snack. And they don't give you enough provision. It's like one tiny piece of butter for a person. One tiny piece of cheese per person.
