Waitress was bright and cheery and quite attentive and meal was better than expected for late night diner food. Took a chance on a return visit and ordered a burger and spinach pie for take out. Asked for well done on the burger and got home to find it seared on the outside and nearly RAW inside. Threw it away and now we're seriously done with this diner. What a shame when you can't cook a burger. Previous: I've lived in the area for 9 years and over the last year or two this diner has gone steadily down hill. I don't know why. I asked for a BLT and I got white lettuce, unripe tomato and half cooked bacon. Burger deluxe was miserable, stale bun and all. As soon as we paid check, we were asked to leave by the hostess because supposedly there was a large party waiting , as we walked out the diner was half empty and no large party waiting in sight. The manager apologized for her behavior but too little too late, will not be returning. read more

Prices are fair, portions are good sized and service is okay (friendly but slow). As others have said, this Diner is 24 hours, so a nice alternative if you're looking for a late night or early morning meal. read more

I have been going to this diner once or twice a week for the last 5 years at least. Good Food and staff. I feel bad that noone mentioned their cakes are baked on the premisies and their Strawberry cheescake flies off the shelf right after it comes out. On weekends they bake up a tray of macroons that are to die for. When I come in, I normally take my cookies before I get seated, otherwise, they are gone by the time I finish my dinner. The best times I had here with friends. Although, I haven't been here since before the pandemic they make the best Vanilla milkshake used to get one after school pretty much every day before heading home. And, when i'm back in town. Breakfast was incredible especially the pancakes and belgian waffles. After moving out of the area I still time to time brought my kids for breakfast and they love the way the waitress always makes their chocolate milk. Family restaurant and fun hang out spot for young people too. Carmel Diner has been around such a long time !! You might think 3 stars is harsh for this establishment, but it's not meant to be critical - it's actually a compliment. I have a high standard when it comes to diners since I've grown up in an area that has a bunch of 24/7 ones to chose from. This place is good - nothing is too remarkable to my palette, however, and the food seems a bit greasy at times. Good for a business meeting (I frequent it for that purpose) but I wouldn't purposely go here for a meal. Had a big breakfast here today :). Eggs, pancakes and bacon, coffee and juice. Service was good, people were friendly. You cant do to much to hurt a breakfast. Price was just ok. When i come here i usually walk away thinking that the prices are a little steep for what you get. Usually go in on a Sunday after service but other times during the week I will order to go on the way to work. For what I order it plentiful and well cooked. A bit expensive to pay $14 for a simple egg white omelette, with veggies. In Diner eating ok, good staff and parking is ample. read more

One more diner on my never ending quest. We were spending the day biking on the picturesque roads around Carmel-Brewster area. Stopped for dinner here. Place has obviously been there forever, because it looks it. It could use as little sprucing up. We were there about 5, and I'm guessing the local old folk love the senior discounts because the dining room was full of...umm...grandparents. but that's ok. The server was bubbly, but I suspect she was a little new...she hadn't tried anything on the menu, and she looked like a deer caught in the headlights when I asked for a recommendation. Standard diner menu, but my meatball sandwich was served lukewarm, no fruits, no pickle, no cole slaw....just as lonely as can be on its plate. The gyro was piping hot with fresh hot fries, a big pickle and coke slaw (which turned out to be lousy, sigh). So I'm wondering...how does one order not get what it's supposed to when the other plate in your other hand has all of it? I guess I shouldn't complain too much...check was less than 20.00, but I'm not gonna be back. read more

I came here on a whim one morning with my parents. First of all, it was the only place open at 6:30am and later we found out, is a 24hr diner. Which, as a born and raised New Yorker, is one of the true qualities of a good diner. The staff is old school with their scratch pads and no nonsense, which is great. The prices are extremely reasonable for the portion sizes you get and everything we ordered was fresh and hot and yummy. We each got an omelette, I got an egg white western. They have nice juice selections and classic toast. We will definitely be back. This is a gem in the area that I'm glad we found :) read more

I wanted a nice hearty toasted bagel to go with my soup, but was presented with a small chewy 'Lenders like' bagel. I went to this diner after going hunting in Ninham Mountain, a few miles away. Had your usual diner food, with breakfast all day, senior specials and porterhouse steak. I went in for lunch so I grabbed a "California jumbo burger" which consisted of 3 slices of bacon, cheese and the fixin's (lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles and cole slaw). I ended up having the server add a over-easy egg on top to increase the tastiness. The waiter was very accomodating and always had a smile whenever he asked if I needed anything. The food came out Fast, the burger was so much of a handful I had to eat it with a knife and fork but was really tasty. Overall, everyone seemed really friendly, prices aren't too bad and the food looks good! read more

I've been going to this diner regularly since I moved to Carmel in 2009. I have to say that both the food and the service have nosedived. My family and I usually order simple stuff - burgers, salads, maybe eggs. No matter what we order, it takes close to 30 minutes before our food arrives even on nights when they are clearly not busy. That's hard when you have young children to occupy until their food comes. Also, the portions have gotten smaller while the prices have gone up or stayed the same. And no one bothers to look at the plates before they come out. One of my usual orders is a chicken salad club sandwich on toast with no tomatoes (I'm allergic). Not only did they not toast the bread, it was obvious that they had made the sandwich with tomatoes and upon realizing their mistake, just yanked them out. How do I know this? Because there were small pieces of tomato still on the plate. Never mind that the sandwich itself looked completely unappetizing. It's a shame that the place has gone so downhill so fast. read more

Unassuming building in a row of stores on busy street with really good diner food. Went there for Sunday brunch. Service was excellent with knowledgeable waiters. Typical diner selection with reasonable prices. Good hot bread, fresh cookies at the cash register for your taking. Food was hot and fresh. Shrimp was terrific, eggs were good and the home fries were among the tastiest you will find. A real pleasant surprise. Adequate parking on side and in back. Definitely a place you will return to. Just got a chicken Caesar wrap here...pretty much the easiest, most basic meal, right? It came wrapped in wax paper which also somehow got wrapped INTO the sandwich. So the entire thing fell apart when I pulled the paper out of the center of my dinner. Also, the chicken was put in hot so it wilted the VERY little amount of lettuce there was and soaked the entire tortilla in chicken juice. Also either they forgot the dressing, or it poured out with all of the hot chicken juice. Incredibly disappointed as this was supposed to be my cheat meal for the week. In this case you should " judge a book by its cover". Was just in there and ordered an omelette...what could go wrong? While waiting for the order noticed the dirty light fixtures hanging above tables, dirty pie case behind the counter that held 2 cut pies unappetizingly placed among the cantaloupe and oranges stored in the same case as well as an open plastic container quarter filled with some red liquid with a spoon stuck in the container! That, along with a dirty mirrored back and glass completed the picture. When my food was served the situation didn't improve. The omelette had a suspicious taste of old grease and the greasy taste and appearance was more prominent in the home fries. This place has definitely been on the decline which is really unfortunate since it's in a good location and could actually prosper under good management and a good diner chef/cook. Current owners obviously don't want to make the improvements and want to just hang in there until they run the place into the ground but I know I won't be back. read more
