Sounds like I really hit the sweet-spot with my order! Carmel Diner seemed unassuming from the road. Small parking lot (about 10 spots). Not much lighting. No sign. But it drew me in with its old-timey awning-roof. This diner has everything and then some. Be careful, Carmel Diner, that you don't over-extend and offer so much that at some point you do not know what your specialty is - or which are the quality entrees.. I was seated fast. My menu was in my hands before I sat. The menu has some really NEAT local American Revolution (1776) quotes and pictures on the front that bring the town to life, as a customer. As do all the nostalgic old black & white images, photos, sketches, linotypes and ink drawings. Those small gestures of an establishment (that are not always noticed by the very hungry masses and screaming families) bring the past alive and thereby also locate and focus down on, where the customer eats and lives. Carmel Diner's interior therefore, is perfect. There are some gadgets and a full-fledged fish tank at the front of the dining room. More architectural photos with old Fords driving up the road 100 years ago, allow you to be one with Carmel and reminisce and enjoy a wonderful lunch. The menu has 8 ways to do omelets. It had about 10 large salads. Sandwiches and burgers run you about $10-12.99 a piece. The priciest item was a 28.99 order of steak with mushrooms. The serve wraps, burgers (Texas Burger, Buffalo Burger) and lots of soles fish, salmon etc. There were about 6 cheesecakes for dessert. The menu is expansive. I ordered a mainstay, keep it 'kitchen-real', you know how I roll with what the chef's like to plate in the back- and MAN-O-MAN was it ever so good! Meatloaf special was my order. And a coffee. And let me tell you: the meatloaf here is VERY, VERY good. It is not stale nor puck-like, as some purveyors in boston would peddle you. The meat mixture was not brittle, not fudged and swampy either. NO! It was in the middle. Flavorful. Soft to the fork. It had a little bit of browning on the edges and was stacked 3-rows high on a roll, plus pickle, a mound of fries and slaw (without carrots and celery for once, yay!). Food was delicious I got the chicken roasted pepper panini with cheddar cheese came with cole slaw fries and a pickle my cousin got the chicken souvlaki wrap which also came with fries cole slaw and a pickle for takeout. We got a cheddar cheeseburger deluxe from my cousins birthday dinner and I ordered a quart of chicken noodle soup since it's very cold but our waitress was very nice great Service will definitely be coming back read more

This place used have good food and service however that is not the case any longer. Our drink orders were taken right away but then we proceeded to wait for 20 minutes before walking out after watching our waitress walk past our table 6 times. And the place was mostly empty as the dinner rush did not come in yet. Will not be going back. read more

Ordered dinner from them last night , gyro platter with fries and a soup. Furious that the soup came in a 1/4 lb cup. Then the gyro was mixed with souvlaki meat and gyro meat and then to top it off their Greek salad had no olives or feta cheese. I will never again order or go into this establishment for anything. I didn't order either of those things, and I don't know why this diner or any other diner has these things on the menu. I truly wonder whether or not they actually have ducklings back there, how long they've sat there, and who ordered the last one. It's a diner. You want breakfast foods, chicken fingers, burgers, grilled cheese, or fried appetizers. If you have an option when it comes to fries, go with the curly fries. Honey mustard beats barbecue sauce here, but get both and see for yourself. If you are feeling really frisky, get some Greek food, but only if they actually seem Greek. Our waitress handled our table of 15 with aplomb, and they didn't screw up my grilled cheese. That's about all you can ask for. ____________ P.S. Since this is a diner, I'll skip the ambience, but the food and service are excellent. The portions are quite large, but the prices don't reflect that. If you have never tried the made in-house Greek salad dressing, you are depriving your taste buds of a treat. I tried the Greek combo plate special and so glad I did because it contained gyro meat, generous slice if moussaka, and and a large slice of spanakopita. Straight-up old school, no frills diner, and that's a good thing. Food and service are about what you expect: nothing to cheer about but also not much to complain about. It's a solid diner. You can always get a decent meal here. I really wish I could give it four stars... but I can't. It doesn't excel at anything specific and your experience definitely depends on what time you get there to eat and who is serving you. When your toast is covered in butter that hasn't melted, you know that toast was buttered cold. Little things like that keeps this place at three stars for me. Also, I avoid this place when it's super-busy as wait times seem much longer than they should be compared to non-busy days. If you're not in a rush and don't mind waiting a while for your food, you probably have more patience than I do, so sit tight. But when I see a full parking lot... I go somewhere else. Idk who staged their photos, but my food has never come out looking that good. They are local and convenient, but the quality has dipped so low. I'm convinced they only buy the butt end of the lettuce, and pre chew their tomatoes, because I have never gotten either that looked even halfway decent. Their prices are astronomical for the quality you are getting, and regardless of the time I go, my food is always lukewarm at best. My last visit was all of those things plus a "charming" political conversation between our waitress and the booth behind us. Is it possible to even have a meal in peace without being slammed by people for not sharing the same beliefs? One of my besties, and long time friend came home to visit, so after some lifting we stopped in at the Carmel Diner to make up for calories lost. We ordered coffee, which is complimentarily refilled, to eat plain Belgium Waffle - crunchy sweet, and delicious ; Blueberry Pancakes- loaded with blueberries. Went there last night for the First time. Typical diner. 24 hours which is great! I had a pancake, fries and toast. The fries were delicious! The perfect amount of crisp. The pancake was very good. Toast was dry but that' understandable. I tasted my friend's chocolate milkshake and it was very good. Basically the food is good but nothing to rave about. Service was very good and pricing is not bad. If you haven't been here I would say it's worth a try. read more

I've been going to the CARMEL diner for the past 30 years and tonight was one night where I wish I had not. I decided to eat out tonight with my daughter and so we chose Carmel diner for convenience and because the food is usually pretty good. Except tonight it was not. I ordered a Philly cheesesteak. Looked great when it arrived but the taste was off. So I did not eat it. I told the waitress that it did not taste good and there was something off about the taste. It was not the way it was cooked but just off like the meat was spoiled. She apologized and brought it up to her manager. I was offered a free dessert which I did not want. But the manager should have either not charged me, or reduced the price of the sandwich. He did neither. Hence this review. I thought it was bad Business on his part. read more

The diner has definitely gone downhill since the last time I had been there about a year ago. I used to love coming to the dinner it was my favorite place, (years ago) but I feel like when they removed the mini jukebox's at each table and decided to get all new staff including the cooks, it hasn't been great at all. I've been disappointed multiple times I've been here since all the changes. If I'm looking for something specific and don't want to drive far I'll order for take out, but that's about it. The new wait staff is so rude. This review is off of dining here the first time for breakfast. My husband used to live in the area & came a lot years ago, he said the food used to be great but after today we probably won't be back. The ambience was fine, your basic old school diner. The pros of the place was the service: the hostess & waitstaff were incredibly friendly, someone was always walking around to make sure coffee cups were full, & our food came out super fast. We wish however that the food would've came out a minute later as both of our over-easy eggs were under, the white was very goopy. This was disappointing as it's a popular diner & you'd hope they'd do eggs right. I really enjoyed my bacon & home fries however my husband got his on corn beef hash & it was very wet, no crisp to it. He stopped eating after he returned from the restroom, he said it was pretty unsanitary & made him question the cleanliness of the kitchen if the bathroom was that bad. There were no issues in the ladies' restroom at all, it was clean & actually smelled good! I can see why this is a local staple as to the convenient location in town & they have a great menu, it just personally wasn't my cup of tea. read more

We stopped in for breakfast and I ordered an egg and cheese omelet and my husband had the french toast. The omelet was huge! Way too much to finish. Portions are very generous. It was made well and arrived warm. My husband's french toast was a little overcooked on the bottom (a bit burnt). The food is what you expect from a diner. For the most part most of it is OK nothing that really blows you away. I don't know what it is about the water but their water is absolutely disgusting. Perhaps as well water and it's not being filtered right but I'd stay away from the sodas from the fountain and the water. Most of the staff are very nice although at times to get a waitress or waiter that is subpar. Popped in here last night with the men after some late night rides and galavanting. We ordered some mozz sticks and panini's for the table but of course a friend of ours called to say, come back to the area, I wanna chillax too. So we last minute asked our very nice and friendly (and cute) waitress if she could actually get our food to go. She was quick to get everything in containers before it even came out to us and gave us a container full of condiments and fixings for our fries and sandwiches. I gotta say my cordon blue panini with sweet potato fries HIT THE SPOT and it was prob the best sandwich i have ever had from a diner. Oh and the fries were absolute perfection! And was seated promptly. The menu was so vast; making a decision seemed nearly impossible. Finally I chose a sandwich named after a warrior of the same cloth as myself, the Balboa. The meat was piled high and cooked to perfection. The cheese complimented said meat perfectly. The roll was kissed with flame, as I like to do to my enemies. But the other day I went for an omelette and soda and ended up paying $14, so I think they increased their prices since I last went there. While the waiter was really nice, the hostess was incredibly rude and seemed annoyed by our presence. Usually when we go to diners, we ask to split the bill between two credit cards upon paying which isn't really a problem. But this time she let out a big sigh and said that we need to ask for separate checks next time (which isn't a big deal, but the way she said it was so rude and condescending.) Still one of my favorite spots for breakfast in the area, so I'm definitely willing to give it another shot. This is my hometown diner, and I can count the amount of times I've been here on one hand. That's saying something if you ask me. Carmel Diner is the definition of 'average'. There's really not much to say here. The food is good and the interior is nice. The service isn't standout. If you happen to get one of the booths that looks out onto Route 52, you'll have a nice view of the handful of storefronts along Carmel's main intersection. This is one of the best diners in the area. The service is always good, the food is delicious, and the specials cannot be beat. Especially the ones that come with any dessert in the diner. Threw it away and now we're seriously done with this diner. What a shame when you can't cook a burger.
