The food is pretty good if you need something quick or some lunch the pizza is my go to. The pasta i wouldn't try its very soggy and not flavorful at all. I've tried the garlic bread and it's good as well

    Cool pizza box wall lol

So, we dropped by Carmellas for pizza on a Saturday. This was my first time here, even though I've heard about it plenty. Fun fact: I love a good dive bar and MAN Carmellas was a great one. The bartender, who I am sad I didn't get his name, was a blessed man with a VERY heavy pour. I ordered a bourbon on the rocks and he poured half the bottle in my cup. A man after my own heart I tell ya ...LOL. I will be back, if for nothing else, than his gracious pours. We had so much fun here though. We were a group of about 8 and our bartender friend was 1 of 2 staffers and he held it down! I ordered a slice of plain cheese pizza and it was actually amazing for being just cheese. Super flavorful!! Inside was cool, very much a bar vibe. Great spot to come drink and watch sports. This is in Montford area so parking is iffy, but I found a street spot and walked over just fine. Can't wait to go back!

    Where's the sauce, man?

"Give credit where it's due," was a maxim my parents taught me. My unimpressive visit to Carmella's was a few years back, so I was hesitant at giving them another whirl. Alas, I ordered an 18" pie with pepperoni, and presto!, via Door Dash had it sitting snugly on my counter. On time. To order. Hot. Mmmm. The pizza was delicious with a proper amount of red sauce, spicy pepperoni with a drop of goodness cupped slightly in each one, and an acceptable crust (no one gets it crusty enough for this NY'er). Overall, excellent. Feeling like only a hot slice of pizza can brighten your day? I say "Give 'em a whirl." It will put a smile in your belly.

One very tomato sauce less pizza. Friends bragged he lefts apologizing for the slack service and so so good

Way way awful dry ass Pizza no tomato sauce lots of onions a little bit of bacon crust was like shoe leather I don't know how it survives

Photos of half cheese half pepperoni pizza pie Extreme slice size difference

So first time there... ordered wings with fries super good then other person ordered chicken fingers and fries... we had packets of ketchup and asked for more and they said we already had mustard sauce so we had to insist upon getting more ketchup. Then we asked for 1/2 cheese 1/2 pepperoni... pizza came out with tiny slices of cheese and large slices of pepperoni and they had a discussion about that as well then said you probably won't eat that much line just not what we wanted to hear over meals we were paying for. Had to walk up to to go spot for to go pans... By the time I was wrapping food up bartender came and said did you need to go boxes as if he didn't see me packaging stuff up. Then we had to go to bar and ask for refills.. a lot of work on our part and not worth it Smh Not going back

The thing that redeemed this from being a one-star review was that the pizza and cheesy garlic bread wasn't bad. I ordered (to-go) a supreme pizza and asked that olives be left off one half. Instead, the one half that was supposed to be olive-less had NO toppings. So we were given a one-half supreme and one-half plain cheese pizza. The cheese from the garlic bread stuck to the top of the box when opened. Would have also appreciated some mask wearing by the cashier.

Destroyed the pizza before I could snap a photo.

I'm new to Charlotte and haven't had the opportunity to explore much with the current situation. I received a coupon for being a new resident to try a large cheese pizza at Carmellas. I was a bit skeptical at first but decided to give it a try. Obviously I cannot dine-in at the moment but the place looks like a fun dive bar on the inside. As for the pizza itself, I was pleasantly surprised. The pizza was thin and flaky and overall very good. I'd definitely recommend this place and will be back again to try different menu options. I apologize for the picture of the pizza box, I ended up destroying the pizza before I could capture a good photo A good sign of a good pizza.

This is a neighborhood type Italian sports bar/pizza place. They have some affordable lunch specials - two slices and a drink for $4.95 or a slice and salad and a drink for $5.95. I would say the pizza is below average compared to NYC standards, especially since they tout its a NYC slice. The sauce was ok but the crust was a little too thick and not crispy. I only tagged along with coworkers, probably will not make a trip out here by myself.

Let me preface this by saying that my experience was Sunday afternoon 12/4 during the 4-5pm hour. Our table's problem was with a bartender named Ross. My experience was so bad that I emailed the owner (email address that I got on the company website) the next day on Monday saying that I would like to speak to someone regarding my experience, please feel free to contact me so I can avoid leaving a public Yelp or Google review. I have not heard back in over a week. As much as I would like to share the details of my experience to warn future guests- I will just keep this simple. I have never experienced a more arrogant, rude and unfit person in the service industry since i have lived in Charlotte. I have enjoyed this place over the years for their pizza, drink specials, and cozy "dive bar" feel. I will never return.. Pictures are worth a thousand words... here is your gracious bartender Ross.

Best pizza in Charlotte. Ranch comparable to the nectar of the Gods. Thanks Carmellas.

We stopped in here for a weeknight late bite when our options were somewhat limited. Thankfully at that hour, street parking in NoDa wasn't too bad, we got a spot just off the main drag. Slices here are GIGANTIC, one is easily about 3 standard slices of pizza, or two normal NY size slices. We got a pepperoni and a cheese. The pepperoni had nice kick to them and the cheese was a high quality. You had to let the pepperoni grease drain onto your plate a bit, but that is expected. The thing that makes both slices so good is the garlic butter bath all around the crust that you can see them doing in the kitchen. Not just that, but the texture in the crust will make even non-crust lovers think again. You're basically left with big doughy garlic butter breadsticks. Definitely a 5 on taste. My only complaint, and I'm sure it is partly by design to keep people from staying long, the stools you can sit on to enjoy your pizza inside the restaurant are THE WORST I have ever placed my derrier on. Even for 15 minutes, it wasn't just uncomfortable, it was painful. It took me a couple blocks to start walking correctly again. Might as well just get rid of them and have people stand to eat. Terrible. Almost knocked a star off for it, that bad. Regardless of the world's worst stools, I would come back for more pizza and just plan on not eating it there.

The atmosphere feels very Manhattan, New York--moody R&B with the bass turned up, soft dim lighting, and intimate curtained spaces create a cozy vibe. And then there's the kale salad. After hearing all the hype, I decided my curiosity was worth risking my lactose intolerance. No regrets. In fact, if I ever had to choose a death row meal, this salad would be on the menu. It's crunchy, toasty, creamy, and brightened with just the right hint of lemon. It's an absolute must-order. And when you get to the crust of your pizza, do yourself a favor and use it to soak up every last bit of that dressing. The pizza is also very very good. Bird has developed a wonderful deep flavor of crust. And the tomato sauce has this great acid where if you end up taking some leftovers home, it develops into this beautiful umami that makes you question. Recognized by The New York Times as one of the best pizza spots in the U.S., the hype is definitely real... even if we're still debating whether it was two-months-in-advance real LOL. It is a small cute spot inside, NYC style. Some people don't like sitting so close to other customers, but I enjoy small intimate restaurants. As for the food - pizza was delish (love that they have beef pepperoni), but the viral kale Ceasar and buttermilk ice cream on the olive oil cake stole the show. I will say review that bill well once it arrives. We saw we were overcharged for drinks, our waitress put the tab of our next door table on ours. We did go back inside before leaving to get it straightened out, and they were nice about it. Service is good but a little slow when it came to getting things like extra napkins, drinks, etc.....and I could tell some waitresses were a bit more attentive to their tables vs. others. Definitely would return, but maybe more so just to pick up a pizza at the outside window and take it back home.

The waiter was efficient, not friendly but not unfriendly either, just doing his job pretty much. Would have been nice to have him check on us once or twice but again not the biggest deal. The pizza: my son really enjoyed it and gave it a 5/5 and hubby ranked it a 3/5. He thought the crust was a tad too soggy. Side Caesar: 3/5 had some pieces of the lettuce that should have never made it in the salad and the dressing was just okay. Morty: also a 3/5. Too much arugula, we took some out and then seasoned the rest with s&p and some crushed red pepper flakes. It just lacked a depth of flavor and the bread and arugula overpowered it. The seasoning helped a bit. I even added garlic aioli based on a review I read on here but I didn't taste it. The pasta salad it came with also lacked flavor, though very green and appearing loaded with flavor it was not. And when eating it, the texture was very gummy. Didn't finish that. Overall, it was okay but I'm not likely to return just because there are better options based on the things we tried. But taste is subjective and it just wasn't our vibe today. But check it out for yourself because we only tried three things and the pictures of the other pizzas do look amazing. That is all!

Their patio is so fun, the street you overlook is pretty chill so there weren't a lot of cars or noise. The area has good enough traffic for decent people watching, that's always fun. Our server was so funny and cool. I wish I could remember his name, but he was having a good convo with the person I was with about basketball and it was just really nice. It felt like I was home on my couch hanging with friends. It's such a cool chill place. I loved the pizza, olives app and the old fashioned. If I lived closer I'd probably go a lot more often. Great spot!!

Review for Pizza Baby…read more After a relaxing Vinyasa yoga class and sound bath at The Coterie Wellness one evening, I found myself hungry--and conveniently, Pizza Baby had just opened in the same complex. Perfect timing. Since it was still new, the restaurant wasn't very busy, and I decided to grab a table outside. The outdoor seating was lovely--relaxed, comfortable, and a great way to unwind after a wellness session. I'm a sucker for thin-crust pizza, especially when it's hand-tossed and thoughtfully prepared, so one item immediately caught my eye: the rosemary pizza with hot honey. Sold. I added Italian sausage to the pizza and paired it with a fresh green salad (I can never resist a good Green Goddess dressing). Yes, it was a little on the pricey side, but the quality matched the cost--and I was genuinely pleased with my choices. The crust was thin and flavorful, the toppings were balanced, and the hot honey added just the right touch of sweetness and heat. This is definitely a place I'd return to--next time with friends--so we can share a few different pizzas and appetizers and really explore the menu. A few practical notes: * Parking is generally easy since the restaurant shares a lot with neighboring businesses in the complex * There are several nearby spots, including a wine bar and entertainment venues, which make the area feel lively * There was some early parking congestion when a nearby church held services, but the situation has since been addressed with signage and coordinated parking solutions It's nice to see businesses and community partners working together to make things run smoothly. There's also another location of Pizza Baby that I plan to visit, which speaks to how positive my first experience was. Bottom line: Great thin-crust pizza, pleasant outdoor seating, and a convenient stop after yoga or an evening out. A solid addition to Charlotte's growing food scene--and absolutely worth checking out. And if you're already in the area for a class or wellness session, it makes for the perfect post-workout reward.
