Came to visit this place for the first time with friends for NYE and the pizza was amazing! I appreciate the parking lot on the side of the building, because Montford parking can be crowded sometimes. There's not a ton of light but it's definitely not sketchy. It was fairly quiet when we first arrived so we had a healthy choice of where to sit, but more people arrived shortly after and things picked up as the night carried on. It's your typical pizza bar with straight forward decor and a good number of TVs, so you can't go wrong with choosing a place to sit and catching a game. Our server (Janice) was super friendly and invited us to walk over to the bar to check out the beer options available (available in bottles/cans only) - she didn't want to mess up the available options; much appreciated. Once we got our drinks, Janice made sure our closest tv was showing something we wanted to watch and promptly took our order. I tried the Picnic Pizza (fried chicken, peppers, tomatoes with added mushrooms) and it was fresh and cheesy. I surprised myself with how full I was after a couple of slices. The pizza was flavorful and I'm glad I was able to give this place a try. I'm already planning to head back to try another one of their specialty pizzas. Go check them out. read more

So, we dropped by Carmellas for pizza on a Saturday. This was my first time here, even though I've heard about it plenty. Fun fact: I love a good dive bar and MAN Carmellas was a great one. The bartender, who I am sad I didn't get his name, was a blessed man with a VERY heavy pour. I ordered a bourbon on the rocks and he poured half the bottle in my cup. A man after my own heart I tell ya ...LOL. I will be back, if for nothing else, than his gracious pours. We had so much fun here though. We were a group of about 8 and our bartender friend was 1 of 2 staffers and he held it down! I ordered a slice of plain cheese pizza and it was actually amazing for being just cheese. Alas, I ordered an 18" pie with pepperoni, and presto!, via Door Dash had it sitting snugly on my counter. On time. To order. Hot. Mmmm. The pizza was delicious with a proper amount of red sauce, spicy pepperoni with a drop of goodness cupped slightly in each one, and an acceptable crust (no one gets it crusty enough for this NY'er). After giving the receipt, they attempted to make the order but didn't take time read the order and provide the right food. 3 items incorrect and after calling to attempt to get the order corrected 5 mins after arriving home, they did not answer. The thing that redeemed this from being a one-star review was that the pizza and cheesy garlic bread wasn't bad. I ordered (to-go) a supreme pizza and asked that olives be left off one half. Instead, the one half that was supposed to be olive-less had NO toppings. So we were given a one-half supreme and one-half plain cheese pizza. I'm new to Charlotte and haven't had the opportunity to explore much with the current situation. I received a coupon for being a new resident to try a large cheese pizza at Carmellas. I was a bit skeptical at first but decided to give it a try. Obviously I cannot dine-in at the moment but the place looks like a fun dive bar on the inside. This is a neighborhood type Italian sports bar/pizza place. They have some affordable lunch specials - two slices and a drink for $4.95 or a slice and salad and a drink for $5.95. I feel like I have probably been unfair to Carmellas in the past because I was sad to no longer have Maverick Rock Taco (RIP). While I initially felt fatigued that another pizza place was opening in an area that seemed to have enough I realize now that there is a lot more to enjoy here than just pizza. For starters they have a great bar atmosphere with prime beer specials. Plenty of TVs makes it a great place to catch a game while chowing down on a slice. The fact that they serve pizza late night makes it a perfect place to finish off a night on montford drive. Don't make the mistake I did by thinking they are only a pizza place their menu has a lot to choose from. I have heard nothing but good things about their wings and the last time I was in I elected to go with a chicken parm sub and it was just what I needed! The food we ordered was bland and my girlfriends wasn't correct. The Alfredo was more soupy than thick. The rolls were hard as rocks. We had to let the server/bartender know our food was ready on the counter but eventually just grabbed it ourselves. The atmosphere was also not what I experienced in other Carmella's locations. The place was empty even though there was a local football game on the tv where every other place on the street was packed. Whether I have sat at table or at the bar, the. service is always been very bad. At the bar, it is almost impossible to get a beer or a drink. The pizza is tasty and the atmosphere is of a family style restaurant that you can go watch a game at and get a beer if you want. They offer Keno and there are a few arcade games available as well. This restaurant/bar has some of the best food/drink specials on Montford. I have only been on Tuesdays, when their pepperoni and cheese pizza slices are $1. You can't beat that! Also on Tuesdays, they sell about 3-4 selections of domestic bottled beers for $1. Not only is the pizza super cheap, but it's also very good. The pizza always comes out fresh and hot, and I have never waited more than 10min after placing an order. I would definitely suggest to get there as early as possible on Tuesdays, because the place can fill up quick! I usually get there around 6pm and can find a couple seats at the bar. Although it is packed with people, the service has consistently been good. If you don't want cheese or pepperoni, you can add a different topping for $.50 extra. Greasy, not very good cheese pizza! How disappointing!! We ordered a 14" Cheese pizza. Light sauce and extra cheese. It came so greasy that it completely soaked up several napkins. There was no redeeming anything about the pizza. The cheese, the sauce, the seasoning, the crust.. Only blah! I also had a hard sick in my pizza. I'm going to guess it was oregano. In my opinion, if you're going to buy cheep seasonings, at least grind it up first. You can sit outside, but you have to order it inside and bring it out yourself. They have some kind of rule that they are trying to bypass to allow you to sit outside with food and drink, but only if you bring it out yourself, or they do in a to-go-box. So strange!! Let me start by saying I did not personally order from here, but a friend of mine did and I recently got to eat some of the food at a fight party. I do not know much about this place and how the service operates but I can tell you the wings are PHENOMENAL. Highly recommend asking them to "run the wings through" and have the sauce on the side. Because it was free, I also got a cherry cheesecake Togo so I could tip the server. It was also good. In addition, due to the high number of slice orders, what we got was hot and seemed to be made recently. Ordering was easy and they came and found us on the outdoor rail.
