I stopped by to try this place on my lunch break, and the place was empty. The hostess greeted and sat me and was very pleasant. I ordered the lunch special; two slices of The Colony pizza and a side Caesar. The Caesar was fantastic. The pizza I really didn't care for and I like Sicilian pizza. The jalapeños had no flavor and the honey was just odd. I'll probably go back this week and try a different pizza and see if I like it any better. first off let me start by saying THIS PIZZA IS MADE TO ORDER! I love when pizza is fresh and hasn't been sitting out all day or reheated. Then the dough is made with organic flour! Winning!!!! We came during lunch and got the lunch special, a choice of salad + pizza slice for under $15. Now the size of the slice is not your traditional triangle it's a huge rectangular slice cut into threes. The salad I chose was the caesar salad. OMG! I'm so glad I chose that one bc the dressing is phenomenal. No seriously. If you've seen my other reviews about caesar salads you'll know how serious I am about them. They make their dressing from scratch and it's sooooooo good I wish they sold it by the bottle. There's a slight crunch to the salad in addition to the actual lettuce that creates a perfect combination of what would have been croutons. A must have! For my slice I got the Colony, minus the pepperoni bc I don't eat pork. That's how I learned the pizza was made to order bc I was able to get no pep without any pushback. The colony pizza has red sauce, cheese, jalapenos and hot honey. It was amazing! The pizza is squared deep dish. Cooked to perfection. Nice soft, fluffy inside with a nice crisp crust. Next time I may order a whole pie just to have some for later! They also have a bar. I didn't get to indulge since I had to go back to work but will check them out after working hours. As a pizza lover I was eager to try Emmy Squared Pizza. Order the Ezzo as I like Hot Honey, Jalapeños, and Pepperoni. I also like Detroit style pizza. I'd say, overall, the pizza was very good but the sauce is sweeter than I prefer. It was almost a Chicago style sauce, which isn't my favorite. Had take out so can't really comment on the ambiance but the restaurant looks nice. Service was right on time from order to pick up. Good pizza. A bit pricey for what you get. This is my fifth time eating at this restaurant over the last 10 months and my first review. What has impressed me is the level of consistency in not only the food and drinks but also the wait staff. They've set expectations and met them each time I visited. I typically only get the Hawaiian Pizza as I enjoy the blend of savory and sweet in each bite. The crust is always "crusting"...charred to perfection and gives that added crunchy texture to an otherwise soft bite. The pineapple is chunky - my only recommendation with it being that size would be to grill it to give it some color and caramelize the sugars a bit which would add an ever so slightly smokey finish. The wooden bench booths may be by design to encourage patrons to leave after 40 mins as beyond that time they become quite uncomfortable to sit in. Even though it takes me 30 mins to get there and another 30 to find parking (South End issues IYKYK) I have enjoyed every visit to this restaurant. For the first time last night I deviated and had their chicken bites with both ranch and buffalo sauces as an appetizer. It was well prepared, delicious and did not disappoint. My friend and I had eaten at an Emmy Squared in Atlanta so we were very excited to see they were in Charlotte while we were celebrating her birthday. We really wished we had checked the online ordering before deciding between the two locations as this location was out of pretty much everything but we were only informed of this after we sat down. And then it was more of like a guessing game of we ordered something and then they would decide if they could make it. I really wanted the Zia Fries but of course they couldn't make those. The garlic bread was ok but clearly missing ingredients and not on the same level as those we had in Atlanta. We both got rejected on our original pizza orders so we had to order backup choices. Our waiter was really nice but he definitely made things awkward. Lingering too long. Awkward smiling and drawing out telling us they were out of items. I have eaten at Emmy's Pizza twice and both times I've been thoroughly impressed. When you walk in you are greeted almost immediately and they have plenty of tables - I have never waited more than 5 minutes to be seated. The place is always busy but never too busy to the point of not being able to talk to the people at your table. The waitresses and waiters have been so quick to get drinks / waters. It was my parents first time here and our waiter made sure to explain anything on the menu and give his favorite suggestions. The pizza was so good, SO good. my only complaint would be parking can be tough during the weekends, as it's in south end. This is something that can't be helped!! read more

In the beginning, the experience was rocky and not that great. While the Zia fries and Brussels sprout salad were great, our pizzas were over cooked.....no, super burnt. So burnt that if I were a server, I would not have delivered them to the table. It didn't help that when we mentioned it, our server commented that they were burnt, and the manager told us that they hadn't deep cleaned the oven, causing it to cook at a higher temp. The hype for this pizza spot has been real since they opened in Plaza Midwood. We finally got around to trying it. My husband and I shared: - VIP Pizza - Angel Pizza - Hot Chicken Pizza They have so many unique pizzas on their menu, so it was hard for us to choose. The VIP Pizza was my favorite of them. It had my favorite style of pepperoni. The crust is where they really stand out. It's so crispy on the edges. I'm not usually a fan of thicker crusts, but I really enjoyed theirs. I didn't think the sauces/toppings were all that flavorful though. The Angel Pizza was especially bland to us. Hmm...how many times can you complain at a place before you realize that it's not going to get better and you should just ask for the check? That's how I felt tonight. This being my second time at Emmy Squared (first time at this location) I really hyped up the menu to my friends and was super embarrassed by our dinner experience. We ordered the cheesy garlic sticks as an appetizer and they came out pretty fast. 6 sticks, the perfect amount for 3 people to share. Turns out they were cold. Maybe they weren't fresh or maybe the insane amount of pesto on top is what made them room temperature. I called over the waitress, told her and she apologized saying they would remake them and deduct the sticks from the bill. The manager brought them out and well...still not hot, but we ate them. I ordered a pizza w/ mushrooms, my bf the chicken parm sandwich ($15) and our friend the Emily Burger ($20) and a sweet tea. The sandwiches don't come with any kind of side (a side of fries is $7!!!!!) so you would expect the sandwiches to be decently portioned and insanely good. Sadly, they were not. The pizza was really tasty. I ended up sharing a slice each with them and they instantly regretted their food choices. The chicken parm was piping hot but was dried out and overcooked. The burger had two patties, the top meat was medium and the bottom well done. They forgot to add the bacon. My friend described the taste as if he was eating a bowl of French onion soup in burger form. Needless to say after a couple bites he decided not to finish his meal. His sweet tea was super sweet. A desire for some but he added 1/2 glass of water to it to dilute it. He finished his drink and wanted to change to something else but no one ever asked if he wanted a refill. We even moved the empty cup to the edge of the table hoping it would gain some attention but it didn't. I can't constantly complain about everything because then I look like an ungrateful, hard to please customer so eventually I was just ready to leave. We were offered a free dessert, some kind of dough balls w/ cream cheese but we passed. Our entrees weren't consumed so we definitely didn't want dessert. Minus the pizza being eaten they left both of their sandwiches barley touched and not worth the leftover box. Our checks were dropped off and no one ever came back to the table. We paid using the QR code after realizing no one was coming back. We weren't thanked on the way out. The location is great, the pizza was good but everything else kind of ruined the night. I was chewing on underdone pizza dough until I realized it was not mozzarella. When I asked for my tab, I presented a card for a $20 off coupon. Even though my food was underdone, the manager took a permanent marker, crossed out my $20 coupon and wrote $15 dollars on the card with his initials. I've been that bartender/server that has had to endure cards with a signature like that. I would rather go to Monday Night Brewing for a Calabrian pizza than get the raw vibez. Overpriced x basic = Emmy(2) This was exhausting. Location and venue space is very nice, ample seating and good lighting with real candles on each table...a very relaxing ambiance. Right in the heart of South End you can park in the deck thats just steps away from the restaurant, or you can park on the street (both are free). Things started off ok, the server was warm and welcoming to my party of 3. We ordered the garlic cheese bread as an app, that was the first sign of trouble. They came out after about 20mins, and they were not warm at all. We asked to have some new ones made, even though we were incredibly hungry and it took a good bit of time to get the first ones. The cold cheese just wasn't going to make for a good appetizer. When the second order arrived in about the same amount of time as the first, a manager came out herself and presented them to us. They looked great, presentation is nice but they still were lukewarm at best. Again, we were so hungry and sending them back wasn't an option, plus we don't like to feel like we are being difficult. As we waited for cheeses bread to come the second time, we decided to place our orders. My friend got the Emily burger (medium temperature cook), which was $19.00 by itself. That's overpriced. He also wanted to add bacon, which is an additional $3.00. So $22.00 for a burger without a side. I ordered a Chicken parm sandwich ($15.00 no side) it was incredibly dry and over cooked, and lastly my girlfriend ordered a mushroom pizza which was good and the only highlight of of the evening . When our food arrived, he immediately checked his burger to make sure the temperature was correct, and it wasn't, it also didn't have the bacon he requested. At this point we are exhausted and hungry, we don't want to send anything else back. It took long enough to get the food in the first place. But we do want the sever to know at the very minimum we aren't pleased, and simple request like the burger temperature and it's toppings should never be this difficult. This is where I decided to completely mark Emmy's off my list, the sever laughed when informed of the mistake...she took it upon herself to acknowledge she forgot and it was her fault that the bacon wasn't on the sandwich. She didn't mention anything about the temp of the burger also being wrong, she awkwardly laughed and said I',m sorry that was my fault and walked away. (Pictures of the deconstructed burger included) She later came back when it was time to pay and said she would offer us a dessert. Not any dessert, a specific dessert that they were preparing. This was insulting, and completely unprofessional. We didn't want or need a free dessert, we all said immediately we don't want it. We wanted a good meal we were gladly willing to pay for. Telling us you are brining out a dish you don't even know we would actually want to eat, rather than providing decent service and good food is egregious. Pro tip: South end has sooo many new restaurant's and current offerings, don't waste your time with overpriced food and awful service. read more

We ordered a Brussel sprouts salad, the combo of nuts, dried fruit and onions was a good pairing with the dressing (thought it was a bit heavy, would ask for it on the side next time). The waffle fries were a expected. The little chicken bites were tossed in a Buffalo sauce but not super spicy. The main event was the pizza! Each pizza comes with 6 pieces. We ordered the Big Al. The base/ dough was baked to perfection. Fluffy and just doughy enough to remind you of pizza and not regular bread. The combination of toppings was tasty. Just enough meat and sauce ratio. It's called "Squared Pizza," but the sign on the door said home of the best cheeseburger in the US and it smelled amazing from outside. After walking to a couple other spots for a few beers we headed back. We split a cheeseburger first. Now I'm a cheeseburger burger fanatic. Being from NC my cheeseburger needs to have chili on it but they don't offer chili. Ok, no problem. After the first bite I realized I had a new favorite cheeseburger and hamburger Joes has moved to 2nd. From the pretzel bun to the toppings to the way it was cooked perfectly. It was all perfect.
