She immediately looked up my insurance, clearly explained what my copay would be, and answered all my questions without making me feel rushed. She was just genuinely kind which is so appreciated these days. They even had availability the following week, which made scheduling so easy. When Dr. Vong saw me, the experience got even BETTER. He took the time to go over all of my questions and concerns about my eyes and genuinely listened. He explained what was going on in a way that actually made sense, even walking me through a photo diagram in his office to show how the eye works. He can tell he genuinely cares about what he does and you just feel like you're in great hands. He performed two different tests and explained both thoroughly. The first measured my eyes for contacts and, after 15 years of wearing them, no one had ever fully explained to me what those measurements actually meant or how they relate to my lenses. That alone was so appreciated. Then he had me do an Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), which was honestly so cool. He went over the results in detail and broke everything down clearly. It felt like a mini lecture in the best possible way, the kind you actually want to attend because you are learning something valuable about your own health. Besides being chill as fuck (he wears hawaiian shirts most days in office), he is also incredibly wise, intuitive, and knowledgeable. He truly treats you and your vision problems as a holistic issue, because they are. The eyes are a part of the brain and the brain is connected to the body, that is a scientific fact that Dr. Doug runs his whole practice by. If you have any weird vision/neuro-visual problems that have stumped other doctors please go see Dr. Doug. My background is one of complex illness and chronic pain. This is likely due to a combination of mold exposure, my binocular vision dysfunction, my asthma, and my ADHD. I went to him with binocular vision dysfunction that was being in adequately treated by a different vision therapist. At the time I first saw dr Doug my binocular vision dysfunction was so bad it was debilitating me, despite being in a vision therapy program for several months. While the vision therapist that I was currently seeing was stumped, Dr. Doug's investigative mind was able to point out some very bizarre observations in how my symptoms were behaving which changed my whole treatment path to a more accurate one. He told me exactly why my case was confusing my vision therapist at the time. He didn't just explain these findings to me, he showed me and had me experience these findings via mini in-office test. I am honestly afraid of of thinking how long it would've took me to realize these things myself if I had not seen Dr. Doug. I would've perhaps wasted years and thousands of dollars in the wrong treatments I have not seen Dr. Doug when I did. This guy is aware of many conditions that affect the eyes that have nothing to do with the eyes. Mainstream optometry is beginning to push awareness that diabetes, MS, and brain trauma can cause eye issues. Dr doug is lightyears ahead of this and considers much more than just those. Mold exposure and allergies, nutrition, Neurodivergence, Colors, Visual stress are just a few of the things he considers. Still, he is very much an eye expert and treats the eyes accordingly. With dr. Doug it's not either/or when it comes to treating your eyes and pointing out other problems affecting the eyes, he treats both the eyes and the overall person. He is also WIZARD at prescribing accommodative and prism glasses, and teaching you little tricks and coping mechanisms that make HUGE impacts on function. He got me right with custom tinted lenses (we combined a light blue and light rose color, so cool) plus prism that MASSIVELY improved my functioning and reduced symptoms like headaches. I have told dr doug that the glasses alone are priceless to me , invaluable. He makes the process so fun and interesting. I am a research junkie, and Dr doug is one of the few clinicians who can still teach me a thing or two and does. The fact he takes VSP for his basic consults and glasses is also nice. If you have complicated issues I highly recommend you take advantage of his more robust assessments and or vision therapy. Whatever he charges for any of his services, the value he offers is worth 10x that easily. If you have complicated issues you understand there are many grifters who sadly take advantage of desperate people, Dr doug is not one of these grifters. After evaluation he told me I am not a candidate for vision therapy yet, instead of just trying to sell me a treatment I do not need. If I ever do need Vision therapy though, I know where I am going. The 5 star reviews are no accident, he's the best at what he does.
