This gelato is the best. It is soooo creamy and flavorful. I think it's a decent price for gelato in AK. Starting at $5 for small and a dollar up per size. It's in a cute location on the spite of Homer were you can eat your gelato and walk around. Definitely worth the stop with many different flavor options. read more

Glad to know that years later, Carmen's standards haven't diminished. Still the best Gelato I've had in the United States and very much up to European Standards (and I lived in Europe.) Today I tried the Alaska Rose and it was incredible. The flavor was powerful- i let my husband try it and he didn't care for it- he felt like it was like eating a flower. The hottest news in Homer Friday was that Carmen's Gelato had opened (along with hilarious video on its Facebook page). I have gone there at least daily since. His flavors are so creative and consistently delicious. Best gelato I have had outside of Italy and rivals that in Italy. I personally love the Salted Caramel with AK Sea Salt, maple brown butter pecan, vanilla bean, and Thai coconut, but I also like the macadamia nut, and am determined to branch out. The shop is spotless, and the staff always friendly. There are tables and benches out front to sit and enjoy your gelato. read more

Most of the gelatos that we have found in the United States have been poor imitations. We are told the owner of this establishment trained in Italy for several years and it shows. This is the best gelato that we have had outside of Italy and we wish that it was in our own hometown. My favorite so far is the macadamia caramel gelato. Adorable little shop way out on the pier of Homer. Due to Covid they only allow one group of customers in at a time. I ordered their Maple Brown Butter Pecan and my brother tried their vanilla. They've got Belato, bro! What is Bellato? It's Gelato, without dairy. Why is it called Belato? I don't know, bro. I do know that I love Gellato, but I also know that I'm mildly (I can still handle cheese, THANK SCIENCE) lactose intolerant. Sometimes I want ice cream or gellato so much I'll just eat and deal with the uncomfortable cramping later. Here: I don't have to! I'm not going to lie to you and tell you that the Bellato is just as good as the Gellato...but it's close. It's much better than "gluten free" pizza, I'll tell ya that much. I haven't had too much exposure to gelato, but this is by far some of the best I've ever had. Their special of the day was a combination of their blueberry and limoncello cheesecake flavors. I would eventually come to believe that whoever decided on this combo probably deserves a medal... We stacked that up with our choice of pistachio (classic) and Alaskan rose with wild honey (inventive and local). God-freaking-damn. The texture was so fluffy and the flavors were so much better than expected. The pistachio was super nutty and tasted almost like peanut butter. I'll be fighting every fiber of my being not to come back in favor of checking out other stops during my trip. The cherry on top (is that a pun?) was laying my eyes on the cutest puppy that ever did exist. This tiny youngster nibbled away at my fingers as I was petting it. Seems like no one else could resist its charms as it soon became the center of everyone's attention. Oh, you're still here? Yeah, I was done talking about the merits of this stand a while ago. 10/10, would gelato again. Now leave me to go find a puppy adoption clinic. read more

Delicious and flavorful, with nice size variations so you can get a little or a lot. Not sure if they had any form of cone though, but not marking them down because I didn't ask. Ice cream is my favorite thing in the world. We have traveled 44 states in our motorhome and I've tried hundreds of places. Been to Italy. Had it after every meal for 2 weeks. Who would think. The salted caramel was so sublime, teasing you with that Alaskan sea salt. The chocolate cherry cheesecake had tart black cherries, thin chocolate pieces and crushed homemade graham cracker.
