Diamond in the rough! Honestly, their prime rib dinner special was one of the best steaks I've had. Cheap and generous pours for all the drinks we enjoyed. I can't wait to come back here. My wife had the ribs. They are the special on Thursdays apparently. I had the prime rib. The wife's ribs were delish and had I known there were specials I would have had the ribs also. We had a brand spanking new server and no one doing any training. But he did good with the support he received. The prime rib was a ribeye that was grilled. Not what I expected. It tasted ok but was definitely tough and haphazardly seasoned. Overall the experience was just ok. Be careful going in and out. Lots of uneven surfaces. read more

We where on our way home from our cabin and stopped in at Carmen's for the first time. What a gem of a place! From walking in and being greeted by our server and really never feeling rushed by him with our three kids was great. Our food came out hot and fresh and portions are perfect with leftovers to bring home. The beer menu was great and our drinks never went dry. We will be back for sure! read more

This is a great place to catch a game and have drinks, they have plenty of TV's to watch and an extremely overpriced juke box to play a song or two. Use your best judgement when ordering mixed drinks, they failed miserably at all attempts to make a somewhat decent old fashioned. They prepared a carry out meal for 40 (soccer players and coaches) to be served after a game at another location. Easy to work with. Price with gratuity was more than reasonable. The amount of food provide (especially considering the cost) was generous. The way they packaged the food kept it hot until we served it (about 25 minutes later), breadsticks were still warm, salad was cool (not warm). Players and coaches were happy. Stopped into Carmens from a recommendation from the hotel I was staying at and the positive Yelp reviews did not disappoint. Ordered a bacon cheeseburger with a fried egg to medium rare and the cook was spot on. The flavor was not over the top, but really good for a simple burger. I eat here constantly as I live very close and honestly Cloquet has very few options at night beyond fast food garbage. The menu is very good with occasional event or seasonal specials added. Usually the special of the day will do the trick with usually 3 options, [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambience is adaptive to that nights clientele. Sports bar, dive bar, after church meetup, dart league, etc...perfect for a neighborhood eatery.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Close to motels for carryout. Best option is sit down but takeout is ok with typical portions in a to go box. Service varies according to your politics as is the case in TDS territory which is very sad. Being asked to leave because you refuse to badmouth our elected President and CINC is really quite petty but unfortunately is a common occurrence in Woke America. My advice is go get your meal and close your mouth and ears, bite your tongue, tip generously and never defend your current President or anything non-DFL and you will have a pleasant dining/drinking experience. Arrogant head waitress, the waiter male staff have always treated me well and other patrons. The waitresses need to possibly have training in health and safety and what tee'd me off was when I was watching one of the barmaids open the cash register, count the money by licking her finger then when done grab some glasses to fill a beer with her licking finger that was on the rim of the glass and proceed to fill from the tap. It was disgusting and appalling to watch. I almost intervened instead I then just started watching how they run and 5 times out of ten there's some grossness happening but you have to watch for it. I guess they get away with it because it's one of the few places to go and locals have to deal with that level of service. read more

First off the food is great! We moved to Cloquet recently, and were pleased that one of the first places we went to was Carmen's. First impressions were good staff was friendly and attentive. So the reason for the 4 instead of 5: We go almost twice a week. When we're on the low carb weeks we ask for salad instead of potato (so two side salads instead of one salad and potato), sometimes a switch is made, sometimes charged extra (!). The burger special is BOGO, so we go a few times getting 4 burgers total, 2 times we only had to get a drink each, yesterday we had to pay for FOUR drinks if we wanted to take a burger home. Note we always ask why there was a charge this time... yesterday was "well... we got a lot of new people working". I'm sure that if they ever read this the waiter will know it's me, I'm not really mad, it's just wow, we are regulars and rave about this place. Is 2 more ice teas the difference between us coming at all? or telling other people about it? Consistency is important one way or the other sorry guys. rant over :) :) read more

Stop by for a bite to eat while up in Cloquet. Haven't been here in years. Nice cozy atmosphere. Prompt waitress. Good selection of food choices . I had a Reuben sandwich and subbed for onion rings. Husband had the Philly sandwich and also subbed for onion rings. Both meals also came with a side of coleslaw and a pickle wedge. The food was more than plentiful and very tasty. Stopped by earlier today while passing thru town, needed to escape this nasty April blizzard. Never been here before and we were very happy with the staff and food. The burgers were cooked perfectly with some delicious char which is how they should be. My buddy had a sandwich of some sort and said it was excellent, coleslaw was also very tasty. Carmen's is a hoot. Beautiful deck for the sitting on. The sun set is a bit intense but I won't fault management for a giant ball of gas several hundred million miles away. The drinks are stiff and the menu is long. Which both describe how I was after biting into my pollock (all you can eat). Paired with creamy coleslaw and mashed pertaters n gravy. Yum-me. Unfortunately we tried ordering fancy dishes in a burger and fry joint. They had a shrimp scampi special for Mother's Day that was so drenched with butter and hardly had no shrimp. No garlic flavor at all plus the salad had wilted lettuce - hadn't been washed and I think they had attempted to make homemade croutons which was a disaster. My friend ordered the cod special with mashed potatoes and coleslaw. The cod was good but the other stuff was not. I cannot even articulate the flavor of the gravy and the coleslaw almost seemed like it had gone bad. My friends mother ordered the burger and fries which looked really good because I understand that they get there meat from B and B which is a well known local butcher shop.
