On a Saturday night the place was pretty empty but it looked nice so we gave it a try. We ordered an appetizer of nachos and told the server we wanted it before the rest of our food. It came like warm at the same time our entrees were brought out. My guess is it was sitting waiting for a long time. Our server who had no other tables chose to wrap silverware instead of bringing us our food in a timely manner. The fish I got was lightly breaded but way over cooked and the breading was partially burnt. The "award winning" ribs were not very good. Could have got better ribs at Applebee's. Bill came to $76! Not worth it at all. Our server never asked how our food was, never refilled our drinks but was instead chatting with another server. When I complained to the lead server (possibly manager/owner) she thanked us for letting us know but never offered to discount any of the food items. Most restaurants would have at least given us the nachos for free. I therefore made it clear we will never return. There are other restaurants in the area with fae better food and service. This is an easy one. What would be your reaction if you were seated with guests and a kitchen(?) employee, in clear earshot of the table, told a server at 8:35 PM, "Food is still going out of the kitchen and I'm f____ing sick of this s___." This is the same place where the server brought out cocktail sauce instead of salsa and didn't understand why my friend didn't want it on her quesadilla. And the same server dropped the food from the wrong side and walked away (don't worry...we sorted it out). Maybe she was interested in some training? Or maybe she was looking for someone who knew how to connect with the joint's "free internet?" That was another mystery. The fettuccine alfredo was a sloppy plate of noodles swimming in white sauce and butter. (See photo) And yes, that's rock hard bread, not a giant hot dog! The sole positive during our dinner was another personable very server (this is her 2nd job...also works for the State?) who spotted the lack of our server's training, skills or ability to communicate. Maybe she can get a manager to spend some time with a staff who spews profanity around guests or has no idea how to wait on tables (or where the salsa is hiding). Nobody else seems to be paying attention. I always prefer patronizing independently owned/operated restaurants but this one was an obvious failure on this occasion. Stay clear unless you're bowling. That's gotta be better...just avoid anything from the kitchen. read more

I told you on the phone had she told us that we would have waited for the food. I said nothing to her that would or should have made her cry. By your response I see not telling the truth starts at the top in your business. I posted my reviews and hour before you called me. I was not looking for anything free. When I was a kid, "Moose Lake" only meant one thing - that's where the state loony bin was. Today the facility is a medium level prison for men. I guess there are probably some loonies there still. Located 44 miles south of downtown Duluth, (110 miles north of Minneapolis) on I-35 (and US 61, the highway revisited by one of Duluth's favorite sons, Bob Dylan), Moose Lake is a pretty little burg with about 2700 people. It's about 5 miles from a place I spent a lot of summers at during my salad days, the YMCA Camp at Sturgeon Lake, MN. Looking at their website, I see it's over $400 a week now; I think it was $25 during my day. You should send your kids there. A good healthy experience. As is going to Gampers, a family fun center located just North of town on Highway 61. The Minnesota Burger Posse headed to Gamper's to catch another show of Todd Eckart, and of course, to sample the burgers. Head of the Burger Posse, Kawika, had the Chipotle Peppercheese Burger, and was quite impressed with the quality of the ground beef, which the owner said was "legacy beef" from Wisconsin. After many years of avoiding Gampers, I decided to give them another try. The chicken has greatly improved. Very good. The waffle fries I got with my meal sucked something awful. First off they were cold. Strike one. They tasted and had the texture of dryness. Like the bag was left open in the freezer. Stoke two. And last, a full 1/3 of the waffle fries were tiny bits and pieces. Like bottom of the waffle fry bag. I was happy to see they had a soup other than potato soup. BUT I had to scrape the bottom to get a full bowl. They did not refill the soup during my visit. Wished they would've cause it was pretty good. Some sort of sausage cabbage soup. We opted for takeout during a weekend with an alarming covid spike. Our food was very good. This is a fine full service restaurant with a large menu. It was full with eat-in customers. Mouth watering food and good small town vibe. This place was recommended to us as the best place for food near our cabin. Spot on recommendation. Good food (they literally have everything imaginable on the menu, including salad bar). We were particularly happy with our choices; a pitcher of summit EPA for $10.50, I got the chicken philly sandwich (see picture- it was amazing), and my boyfriend got the Bull Moose burger on marble rye and he thought it was delicious. The place has a bowling alley, darts... seemed to be a hoppin' place for a night out :) *why not 5 stars? We snagged a high top in the bar but apparently didn't have a waitress? Based on Yelp reviews, on my way through town I stopped here for lunch on a weekday. I should have left when I walked through the door and noticed the urine odor. I ordered a cheeseburger because I think that's probably the best thing to order in a bar. Bars know (or should know) how to make a good burger. It's a huge burger, bigger than it really needs to be, but lots of fillers and very meat loafy and a weird smell. I do have to say that the wait staff was very nice, welcoming and attentive. Too bad that the food sucked. But I stopped at Gordy's in Cloquet and got a cone to wash that awful taste out of my mouth. read more

What a delightful find! We really got a taste of the local flavor. While the moose burger is not actually made of moose meat, the "hot stripper basket" was great. We were even given several different French fries options (curly, waffle, or crinkle). Our hospitable and friendly waitress took excellent care of us. I was pretty happy with our decision to check out Gamper's when we were in Moose Lake the other day. We were seated right away and the hostess as well as our server were both very friendly. The atmosphere at Gamper's is pretty neat with all of the antiques and old signs covering the walls. The service was good and everyone in our party was quite pleased with our meal choices. Most of the meals came with a choice of side... of which there was quite a selection. There were even several different styles of fries from which to choose... the server gave the two year old in our group his fry choices "Would you like crinkle, curly, or waffle fries?" He thought about it for a few seconds and said "Blue!" Unfortunately, they do not serve blue fries, but he was quite content with the crinkle fries. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich with a side salad. The food arrived quickly and was well presented. The salad was good and fresh. The sandwich came out piping hot and I received a couple of different options for the sandwich toppings... both BBQ sauce as well as their cranberry horseradish sauce. Both were good. The cranberry horseradish sauce was not too strong and just had a hint of spiciness. A couple of burgers and sandwiches were also ordered and everyone reported that they were very happy with their meals. The kids even got a surprise ice cream treat once they finished their meals! They were excited! There were quite a few other selections on the menu that I would be interested in trying in the future. read more

I've eaten here quite a few times over the past five years. Normally, the food is of good quality depending on what you order. The burgers are good with tasty sides. The Reuben I recently had, was absolutely horrible. There was only about an ounce of meat on it, which was dry and flavorless. The bread was greasy, and the sauerkraut was bland. Generally, food is better here so I will chalk it up as a mistake. read more

Good food, but very disappointed that they automatically charge the new "credit card processing fee". I paid cash but the charge was still on my bill. So now they are making extra money off of customers by integrating a supposed fee into every customer bill, regardless of payment method. It's just sleazy to make extra money off of the credit card transaction increases. read more

Stopped in for lunch. The first time we were there. Both of us ordered wraps. The crispy chicken, bacon, ranch wrap was fantastic! Very filling! My wife ordered the walleye wrap. Our cycling group from Northern Wisconsin descended on Moose Lake for 3 days of glorious weather and bike trails. We arranged with Vicki and Greg to have a dinner at Gampers while we were in town. There were 42 of us. We had a private room, appetizers and a buffet dinner. Everything was delicious, well served, the right temperature, not dried out (my usual complaints about this kind of meal).
