We were driving from Bemidji to Duluth and drove by. Decided to turn around and come back. Current owner has had the place for two years. I had the BLT with fresh cut fries. A lot of food for me. My husband had the chili (with beans) and a side salad (since it was Sunday they had a salad bar that had a nice selection including beets, sunflower seeds and homemade croutons). There isn't pizza, but they still have the roasted chicken, which a customer who had been there about a year ago, raved about. Really cute place too! Excellent service. Best impulse stop! read more

What a great surprise. Stopped not knowing what to expect and we couldn't have been happier. Gorgeous interior, but the clincher was the food. My husband and I had the "Big Bob Belly Buster" fish sandwich. The fish was cooked perfectly, GBD, my jojo's were also perfect. Crispy on the outside and pillowy soft inside...this chef knows how to do it right! Jeremy, the owner was very attentive and we enjoyed talking with him. He has only had the business for 8 months and in my opinion, he has a winner. The place was busy for a late lunch. The decor has a great cabin feel to it. Our server/bartender came over right after we sat down and took our drink order. We ordered our burgers afterwards and they came out fast and hot. The chips and sour cream dip was good with them. I wouldn't order the bleu burger again due to not having much flavor but the spicy burger my wife order was very tasty. Next time we will try their pizza as I saw a cauliflower crust on there menu and heard it is amazing. read more

Two people in our party ordered the chicken bacon ranch wrap, wrap was absolutely smothered in ranch to the point both were only able to take a few bites before they couldnt handle it. On top of making both absolutely sick hours later. The place was dead, yet it took an hour to get any food, and took the bartender 30 minutes to cash out a damn pull tab. Wow factor when walking through the doors. Stopped for lunch during a snowmobile ride. When you go in the dining is to the left and the bar area to the right. We went to the bar. Due to me being on a diet I order a side salad and my husband a double California cheeseburger with fries. The food was very good and the atmosphere was relaxing. Good choices of liquor. The Savanna Portage has an attractive exterior and interior. The good news stops there. We stopped there Monday on Labor Day weekend I ordered the JoJos for an appetizer. "Sorry, we are out of JoJos." Ok we will have the sweet potato fries. My next choice was the Reuben for my meal because they noted it as a specialty. It's not ready yet." It's 5:45 and the kitchen closes at 8. My boyfriend wanted the Reuben also, so we decided to split the nachos. One daughter ordered the broaster chicken and the other a Cesar salad. The nachos arrived way before any other food including the fries we ordered as an appetizer. I lost my appetite when I saw them. Cheese whiz. Nasty round corn chips. However, my boyfriend who can stomach corn beef hash out of a can and who was very hungry, was willing to eat them even though it was a scavenger hunt for any meat. Later during the meal, we were razzing my ketchup crazy daughter and said oh maybe the ketchup could help the nachos. To which the BF replied,"Nothing could help the nachos." Evidently the broaster chicken was good and the chicken on the Cesar salad was edible. Other notes: The server was clearly disappointed that we weren't ordering alcohol. She had another server bring out the nachos and she took them to the wrong table and stood there dumbly until we said they were ours. Lastly, she brought the check with the wrong item but as she noted the same price but then was not picking up my debit card. Clearly this was not the A-team, but who leaves their C-team in charge of a restaurant on a holiday weekend? Stopped here for a quick bite, it's obviously a bar, for a Sunday it was kind of busy and they only had one old lady serving. There were about 7 tables with family's and kids, the bar counter was full of extremely intoxicated men who seemed to have had more service from the server than the tables with families. We waited about 20 minutes for her to recognize us and refill our drinks once. Waited another 15 mins for the bill and eventually walked up to the bar to ask for the bill ourselves because we were on a time schedule. Not stopping here again, didint even leave a tip. We are on our way across country from California to Toronto and I was hoping to find some good Walleye in the Minnesota lake country. I saw this place and went past it but turned around because it had a good look to it. What a good find! My husband and I split a huge fried walleye sandwich with homemade potato chips that were to die for. The owners are mother, mother-in-law and daughter and they seem to know how to run a business. They have a menu that appeals to locals and tourists alike. The service is fast and friendly and the food is excellently cooked. I only hope they are still there next time we pass through! read more

We have property in floodwood and stop in here probably 5 times a year. We have never once had good service. The only reason we still stop is because it's a little more family friendly than the other bar in town. It takes 15-20 mins to even get a drink and when you finally get your drink order taken you better order food and any extra refills you want because they rarely come to check on you besides to take you food when you aren't even done and bring your checks before you were done drinking or hanging out. All in all service is terrible. Food is good. This place needs a serious staff overhaul. read more

After a feeble excuse from the waitress about the delay, we continued to wait, however after another 30 minutes, we still had no food and we started noticing that many people who arrived at least 45 minutes after us were being served, we left and we'll never stop there again. Have stopped in here 3 times to eat on the way through, have only been successful once and that was because it was at 2:00 in the afternoon. Will say that the Reuben that I had at that time was great. That's where the good ends though, tonight we stopped in at 8:15 hoping to get that Reuben again but was told that the kitchen closed at 8. I'm not even sure if the dining room is ever open since out of the three trips, I have yet to see it, the bar area it was again. There were 3 other tables seated and 2 of the 3 received their food as late as 8:45 and the third table told us that they arrived at 8:01 and were denied food also. After a couple drinks we asked if they had anything else at all to eat and we were then offered nachos or frozen pizzas. Twenty minutes later the nachos arrived, they must have been from the bottom of the bag as they were mostly broken small pieces. Cheese sauce was non existent, the other cheese wasn't even melted, there was a side of salsa and sour cream that was good enough for about 6 of the broken chips. Stopped in on a Friday evening, and the place was hopping. Nice decor, very north woods, well lit. They had some good beer on tap as well. My wife and I each ordered the fish fry. We got a cheeseburger off the kids' menu for our son. The wait staff was very nice, but obviously too busy. We waited for more than 45 minutes for our food. When the fish arrived, it was possibly the worst I've ever had in a restaurant, badly overcooked and dry, almost like fish jerky. My wife's fries were good, as was my baked potato. The salad bar was pretty good, too. I thought I would maybe give them another try, anyone can have a bad night or a bad dish. Then I took a bite of my son's burger. It was dry, chewy and under seasoned, basically flavorless. I don't want to scare anyone off. I'd consider giving it another chance myself, but I strongly suggest not to order the fish fry. read more
