Got a peach margarita which was tasty, but I couldn't taste the tequila and I got the large and normally with that size I get a little bit of a buzz, but I came nowhere as close. In a small town like Cloquet, when someone says "authentic Mexican food", it raises a bit of doubt but I was very pleasantly surprised when we got to Pedro's and not only did everything taste fresh and made to order but soooo delicious! We've lived in Texas and Arizona where street tacos are supreme so we were thrilled when our food tasted legit. Like many other Mexican restaurants, you're offered chips and salsa as you peruse the menu. I wasn't a huge fan of the salsa so we got some queso and it was a wee bit runny but great for dipping. I ordered the classic chimichangas with shredded chicken and then subbed the refried beans with rice which ended up being a perfect combination. It came out piping hot and the rice mixed in with the queso -- YUM!! My husband got the fajitas changa I believe as basically shredded beef with fajitas in tortilla wrap smothered in queso sauce. Both came with lettuce, tomatoes, guac and sour cream. Food came out super fast, our server was super attentive and even when my first plate was shredded beef instead of the chicken I ordered, he got me a fresh batch super quick and didn't charge for the kitchen error. This is a must stop everytime we go up to visit family in Carlton. The food is always excellent, the service and staff are fantastic, and it's just an overall great spot! I believe it's family friendly and our 2 year old did great tonight there. My fiancée devoured his Cancun burrito and I always love my Arroz con pollo! The SIL got the Tacos Bravos and loved them as well! The decor here is fun and festive and I love that it's a family owned business!! My sister, friend & I ate lunch today and it was soooo cold inside we had to wear our coats! We looked Around to see if it was warmer in the middle of the restaurant; and almost everyone was wearing coats! The food and margaritas are good here. The decor is decent. They have a large menu including vegetarian options for those who want to stay away from meat. They also give you the tradition chips and salsa which was just fine, nothing special. The Guacamole was like a blended smooth type which likely isn't fresh made. I prefer the chunky traditional, even when they make it at your table. The Mexican fried ice cream was okay, but I have had better. The service was just so-so but all and all it was good. Imagine my suprise when I experienced quality Mexican in the sticks in Minnesota. I was on a work trip and the crew brought us to this place in Cloquet. I was expecting something less that spectacular and was completely suprised by the quality, quantity and service that was afforded. I started with shrimp tacos the first day. Spot on and just the right level of spice. They brought me a plate of rice and beans that I would get every single time I went here. Couldn't get enough. Last visit I have two pork soft tacos and the rice and beans yet again. Being that my flight out of Duluth was cancelled right before the food arrived, I needed something to up my mood. And the food and service certainly accomplished this. Everything I had was consistent and very flavorful. I would come back to this place time and time again. We had a handicap grandma and 18 month old and were placed in a huge booth that was hardly accessible. They had seated at least 100 people but only had 4 or 5 servers. Our family frequently dined at the Cloquet location before the Superior location opened up. We were thrilled that we didn't have to drive 25 minutes to enjoy some good Mexican food. However, the past 2 times we ordered "carry-out" we experienced the worst customer service! The first time we went to pick up the food the kind younger man told us our total and gave us our food. Then out of nowhere a gentleman came storming out of nowhere yelling to the man "did he pay for that"? Not only was it loud enough for me the customer to hear but so could other patrons in the restaurant. I left confused and slightly offended thinking okay, maybe he's having a bad day I'll just give him a little grace. Oh no. 3 months later, same thing happened! We went to pick up our food again, got slapped with a "new" $3.00 carry out fee (ridiculous) which was added to the given total and the same dude came flying out of nowhere yelling at the lady "Did he pay"? Like seriously?! it's rude and offensive to act that way in front of your customers and to treat fellow employees working the front counter like they are incompetent...and for that reason we will continue to give the other local Mexican food establishment all of our business from here on out. I've managed a restaurant for 10+ years and I would never allow my employees to treat my customers like they are thieves. If this happened to me twice over a few months span, my guess is that this a regular thing. Do better Pedro's, great customer service goes a long way! read more

Absolutely terrible! This was not my first time at Pedro's but it will probably be my last. After several hit and miss meals and service we thought we'd give it another try. Today's visit was definitely subpar! My meal was burnt and there was little effort to rectify the situation. The waiter never checked on us after he brought our meals to the table. When he finally returned I showed him all the burnt steak and vegetables all over my plate. He apologized about the burnt meal and blamed the particular kitchen crew on at the time. The service was great but we ordered the chicken, steak and shrimp meal for two, it came on a sizzling platter with mostly chicken, beef was not in strips like I had expected it was like it was shredded and over cooked and I personally seen one shrimp was very dis appointing we will not order that again. The reviews looked great so we gave it a shot. It was busy and everyone seemed happy. Got seated and ordered quickly. Noticed that everyone was getting chips and salsa but not us. Thought maybe they were extra. So when our food was brought by another sever we asked and he said it was not extra. He told our server who came back with some and used the excuse "no one brought you any, huh". No apology and didn't take ownership for it. We never saw him again. My husbands drink sat empty for over 10 minutes before I got up from the table and walked over to a young busboy to ask for our sever. He didn't seem to understand me (not sure he knew English) but at least he asked for help. I saw him talk to our server who ignored his request so he talked to another server who came over. We explained we hadn't seen our server since we ordered and would like a refill and some more tortillas. He took care of it but didn't seemed concerned. We got our bill, paid and told the clerk how horrible the service was. She also did not seem concerned by this. I've never in my life given no tip but today I did. I've been to many small town restaurants but this this was the worst. We will never return. read more
