Atmosphere is really cool. Server was not present very much and the food was average. Would probably return due to the novelty of it though.

Had the chicken and wild rice soup. Excellent. Highly recommend this local favorite. Great service also. Helps it's winter and slow.

Even though we are visiting Duluth during this crazy time of the wild fires, Duluth Grill made our trip worth it! They have a streamlined process for getting seated, the staff are welcoming and knowledgeable about the menu and local area. My family ordered the usual staples: biscuits and gravy, pancakes and sausage, and bacon/eggs/sausage. All were hearty portions and perfectly prepped. I tried the "Triple B" which turns out to be a Midwest version of Bibimbop. Made with manoomin (wild rice), beef/pork mix, kimchi, marinated kale- probably my fave of the dish. The combo is a deliciously perfect power meal to start any day and weekend right! I was pleasantly surprised and impressed by the care they take in procuring local ingredients- even their kale and some herbs are from their own lil garden. I highly recommend the Duluth Grill, there's something for everyone! We will definitely stop by on our next trip out to Duluth.

We got there promptly at opening, along with a short line of others at the door. We were greeted and seated, and the bag of peanuts was a surprise. Business model change since I had been there last. No more barrel of peanuts. No big deal. Waitress was clearly under-trained. Had to flag her down as she wandered past us several times. Had to stop her for the drink order, the food order, then never cleared the plates nor bothered to offer dessert. We sat amongst our piles of dishes until we left. Just plain ignored the whole visit. Early after seated and visiting with each other we were interrupted by "the manager" for an obligatory "Hi, I'm ....... The manager". Who cares? Anyway, never saw that person again. The entire time we tried to get the waitresses attention there were pods of servers standing around visiting with each other and oblivious to our attempts at flagging ours down. Training. That's the only thing that came to my mind the whole visit. The food was also just so, so. It was not nearly the experience I remember years ago. Mediocre all around. The "I love my job" shirts did the talking, but the poor performance did the walking. I really, really wanted to enjoy my visit, but something has changed, and changed for the worse at TR. I could not be more sad about it.

Drinks, followed by poutine 5 minutes later, then food about 10 minutes after that. We were all done within 30 minutes! The food was fantastic, too. Delicious poutine, with oozy gooey squeaky cheese curds. I had the smoked fish salad; it had the right amounts of everything and felt like a distinctly Duluth dish. My husband had the fish and chips. I had a bite of his fish, and it was perfect, with great batter and flavor. I would happily come here again on a visit. I can see why this is a city institution.

When we arrived a bit after 7PM, we had quite some trouble finding parking and ended up having to park a couple of blocks away after circling for 20 minutes. Walking in, the place wasn't too busy, perhaps 50% capacity. We were interested in ordering the fried cheese curds, but the server told us they weren't battered in house, so we passed on them. Smoked Fish Salad (Market Price, $18.99) - This is a pretty salad - all ingredients are arranged in rows along the dish. Mixing things together is a bit of a pain, but I appreciate the dressing on the side to add to preference. The dressing is an interesting blend of mayo and other ingredients, perhaps BBQ sauce, that make it slightly tangy and very sweet. There's an undertone of smokiness throughout, which tastes somewhat like liquid smoke rather than the dressing actually being smoked. It is on the sweeter side of dressings. Other than greens, there's a row of wild rice, dark and snappy, completely broken cultivated rice. There's also a bit of house smoked trout, nice and smoky. (4/5) Classic Wild Rice Burger ($16.99) - This is one of the tallest burgers I've seen in quite a while, mostly due to the inclusion of fresh vegetables including onion and tomato, and alfalfa sprouts. For some reason instead of using larger tomatoes, they use small roma tomatoes, including three small slices. They also used red onion that's chopped into a variety of different shapes instead of whole slices. It's really strange - I guess this saves on cost? Unfortunately smaller pieces means things fall out while eating. The patty is larger than the bun. It has plenty of broken wild rice bits giving some additional crunch and that signature wild rice taste. It's charred on the griddle well and it keeps its structure, not falling apart or becoming mushy at any point. I love how it's distinctively a rice burger and doesn't try to be a meat substitute. Two slices of American cheese are melted on top that gives some fattiness to the dish. The bun is toasted without butter and there's a flavorful garlic mayo spread on the top. It would be nice if they had also applied the sauce to the bottom bun as I found the patty to not have enough moisture or fat incorporated. The burger comes with some thin commercial fries. There aren't any issues with the level of fry and they are otherwise unremarkable. (4/5) Fitger's Brewhouse serves some solid good old fashioned Midwestern American food. Not much else to say. We came here later in the afternoon around 1:30 to grab some lunch. Passing the mall that was jammed packed with shoppers, we set our expectations for a long wait. Well, that is what we got and then some. We put our order in and waited, and waited, and waited. Hey, it's the holidays and the weekend, we will wait. More than an hour into waiting, our food finally comes out. As our waitress is bringing out the food, she tells us that only one out of the two of the wild rice burgers we ordered was available and we would need to make a substitute of some kind in place of the KITCHEN'S error. AS SHE IS BRINGING OUT OUR ORDER THAT WE HAVE WAITED OVER AN HOUR FOR. WTF? So are we supposed to order something else and wait an additional hour for it? So that means one person at our table has no food and we are starving because it is getting close to 3 p.m. So we order an order of onion rings and start splitting up our meals to make enough food go around the table to feed everyone. A good waitress would press for our onion ring order to be at least prioritized but that never materializes. After waiting 20 minutes for the rings, we tell our waitress to cancel the order. It would be dinner time by the time we got them. Seriously, no apologies, no what can we do to make this better, nothing - just would you like to add more to your bill? Overpriced burgers and sandwiches (one burger, one kid's meal, and one beer ran was $35!, that was just one bill out of three). On top of that, they nickel and dime you with so many different charges (5% automatic charge to pay for their awful cooks, retail tax (?), multiple lines to tip your staff, etc.) followed by absolutely clueless and uncaring staff. I'm only 33 years old but this will be the last time me or my immediate family ever set foot into any Grandma's establishment ever again. Avoid this place and support a business that actually works to be deserving of your business and time.
