Carmen's Barbershop is a hidden gem located on the Sepulveda Blvd. side of the Hacienda Hotel. This shop is small, but it feels like you have a private barber once inside. Carmen is an excellent barber who does an awesome job for any price. Add to that, she doesn't charge much for the great hair cuts. I have been going there for around three years now and she is by far my favorite barber I have ever had. I strongly recommend calling ahead for an appointment since she works alone. A typical haircut goes about 20 minutes and includes a straight razor shave if you are cursed with a hairy neck line like me. The Los Angeles Kings practice rink is near by, as well as the Lakers gym. She cuts hair for stars and normal folk like me and does a great job. If you are tired of stupid cuts, give Carmen a try. Carmen is an exceptional barber. After years of taking my boys to national chain salons and getting average and below haircuts, I decided to look for a real barber. Carmen knows what she is doing and her skills are immediately clear. I guarantee if you go to her shop you will be a repeat customer. You need to make reservations which she books in 1/2 hour blocks on the hour and the 1/2 hour. Allow yourself enough time to find parking in case there is nothing available in front of the shop. Note to Reviewer Flea, The hotel doesn't make reservations for the barbershop and Carmen doesn't take reservation for rooms at the hotel. Carmen makes appointments on the hour and 1/2 hour. It's always been that way. She would have never told you to come back at 12:15. Don't believe me? Call and try to make an appointment for fifteen minutes after any hour. If you can't figure out how to make an appointment to get your hair cut you deserve to miss your lunch. You should remove your review as it is obviously written on emotions rather than facts. Had my hair cut by Carmen today. I've been searching for a decent barber in the Westchester-El Segundo-Manhattan beach area for several years now and finally have found one who is more than "decent." She gave me the best haircut I have had in years. Found her by accident searching Google maps. She only works by appointment. But her work is outstanding. I have difficult hair to deal with with weird waves and curls and I don't like to use mousse or gel. She tamed the waves and curls. I couldn't have been more pleased with the result. The first time I came here I was excited at the site of essentially having the shop to myself for the duration of my haircut, but definitely a little worried I wouldn't be handled well. Met Carmen today, and I found her to be wonderful. She's respectfully talkative, and very warm and fun to be around. Her shop is discreet (located under an awning, behind a mirrored window, next to the Hacienda Hotel), but the experience of going to see her is very personal and enjoyable. Before coming here I spent some time searching for a good place to get my haircut. I went to expensive salons (like Trim in Venice) and cheapo places like SuperCuts but I left those places feeling like the cut I got wasn't worth what I paid. I started going here on a recommendation from one of my co-workers and I've been coming here ever since. Carmen is great at cutting my hair which is curly/wavy and is usually a mess when I go in to her shop but she is able to tame the mess and make my hair look great. Extremely pleased with the cuts here! Carmen works alone at this single-chair barber shop and with reason. Very rare to find a barber that leaves you feeling so good and sure that your hair looks sharp every single time. The cuts I've gotten here have been by far the best and I always walkout feeling fresh and clean. She knows her stuff and if you ask, she can help with trying something new. So not only is she a barber, but I have to give her credit for being a hair stylist. I've received many compliments on my new hair style thanks to Carmen's work! Neat thing about the place is how it she works by appointments and only has a single chair, kinda makes you feel like your hair is definitely getting the attention it deserves. She is very precise and professional. She cut my hair just the way I intended and took the extra time to trim the things that most barbers overlook or don't have time to do. I was expecting to pay a lot more with the neck shave, which I've never had before, but I was surprised it only cost $15 for everything. That's the price of my student discount back in Westwood. With all the raving reviews, I decided I would try this place out. It is close to where I work so it's also convenient. It has been a while since I was there, but I wanted to wait to see if maybe my opinion was just a bad mood or what. It is a "barber shop" so I am keeping that in mind while writing this review. I made an appointment as everyone suggested. I think it was Carmen who answered and she seemed cheerful and happy to take my appointment, it was a little odd, but I was happy I wouldn't have to sit there and wait like I usually do at other places. I had a hard time finding parking so I ended up parking behind the hotel on a side street. Thankfully a previous reviewer stated that the barber shop was inside the hotel. I went up and into the hotel through a back stair way into there conference room areas, and eventually found her barber shop. It's like down the hall from the concierge desk. The hair cut was good It was just like a normal barbershop cut, but it did seem a little more precise? Not sure how to explain it. Anyhow if you are wondering why it's just a 3 star review it's because of the cost and feeling? It is higher than the one $ price range. It's almost twice as much as the barber shop I sometimes go to, including tip. She doesn't post prices, so maybe she charged me more... because I'm not as good looking as all you other guys and she didn't want me to come back. :( The hair cut also didn't make me feel good when I left either. Sometimes I get hair cuts where I feel like I look really good. I may or may not go there again. It is convenient since it's close to work and there is no wait time, but if I'm going to be meeting people where my image might make a difference, I will go else where. I'm glad so many people have had good experiences. I didn't. I called the hacienda and asked about their barber shop and they said, "come on in" Nobody told me about the appointment only policy, that's ok, it happens. I walked in to the tiny room and was told that I needed an appointment, there was a man in the chair which was awkward since the room was so small. She said "I can take you at 12:15," this was at 11:45 so I decided to wait. At promptly 12:15 I returned and the same man was in the chair, so I waited and waited and waited, finally 12:30 rolled around and I left. I felt this was very unprofessional, I didn't get the haircut I needed and my lunch was completely lost. There was also no parking and I feel that when I hear barber shop, I have an image in my head, this wasn't it. This was more like a super cuts with a single chair. I won't be going back. read more

A year and a half ago I got tired of the large retail chain haircut places not listening to what I wanted. I was always 'ok' with the cut but NEVER happy or even satisfied. Then I started looking for a new person to cut my hair and went to many barber shops. I then stumbled upon Carmen's in El Segundo. It only makes sense to have a female barber. I mean who are you trying to look good for? It is the same reason why I always take a girl with me when shopping for a new cologne. The quality of the cut is worth way more than $20 and even finishes with a razor edging around your sideburns and back. I have gone through 3 different hairstyles since first sitting in her chair. She is very meticulous, takes her time, and always makes suggestions to make YOU look better. Trust what shes doing...it might take you a couple looks before you realize what she did. Wow! We just moved back to the South Bay and I am so glad I found Carmen's barbershop on yelp! I am very particular about who cuts my hair and fortunately the yelp reviews here do not lie! Carmen is a master of her craft and she takes so much care and detail when cutting my hair. I used to go to the Blind Barber in culver city for my haircuts and while they did a great job, they don't provide the attention to detail that Carmen does (plus her price is about 40% less than theirs). I have had Carmen cut my hair twice and I have been extremely satisfied both times! She is by far the most precise, detailed and skilled barber that I have ever gone to. Been going to Carmen's place for years. Best barber for curly hair in the area. Bar none. She understands that a haircut may look nice when you walk out of a shop, but depending on how the follicles spit out your 'fro it may look like a lawnmower ran you over a week or two later. She's super skilled with the clippers, but she'll bust out the scissors for a custom tailored job if you walk in with a mop of shag carpeting that just won't take a standard cut. It's a strange fact that the less hair you have, the more important the quality of cut. My Ashton Kutcher years are well behind me so I'm particularly particular about where I get my barnet trimmed. I strongly agree with the previous posts. Due to airline mishaps, I missed getting a haircut in my home town, then I found myself in LA really needing a cut... important meeting coming up. Just by luck and her shop's proximity to LAX/El Segundo, I found her on my iPhone's map app. It was Saturday afternoon and when i called her she was just closing up. She sounded nice on the phone and I begged her to let me come by as I was just 10 minutes away. She did and I am so glad. I live in Florida but I come to LA regularly.
