This is an old fashioned barber shop; and I mean that in a very complimentary way. No blaring music, no hipster neo-masculinity vibe, no overly inked/pierced weirdos cutting hair or hanging out. Just a nice relaxed hair cut with a nice bit of chit chat on the side. Pricing is good for the times - I think I paid $35 for a regular men's haircut. I got my hair cut by Cris a while back and he did a good job. He cut it to the bottom of my ears as I requested. He was not very friendly, but I wasn't there to make friends. A couple days ago it was time for another haircut so I went back to Cris (his spelling). Asked him to cut to the bottom of my ears again, same as last time. This time he cut the right side to the top of my ear and the left side to the middle of my ear! I didn't notice at first, I saw how short it was, mentioned that was MUCH shorter than I asked for, paid and left. When I got home I noticed the lengths on each side were different. I took time off work to get it fixed. While in the chair I started explaining why I like it to the bottom of my ears, just to make conversation, he took the robe off me and opened the register and handed me what I paid and most of the large tip I had given him and told me to leave. So I guess the bright spot is it only cost me a few $$ and time off work to have my hair screwed up! I have NEVER been treated so poorly by anyone cutting my hair in my 67 years on this planet! Moving down to L.a I was nervous about finding a new barber to cut my hair. I found Chris by chance, and have been seeing him regularly for a little over six months now. He is the best barber. He is so skilled and gives a very detailed cut. I have had numerous hairstyles from normal buzz cuts to fades and mohawks. Let's just say I'm kind of a perfectionist and he nails it every time. I always leave very happy and I am scared for anyone else to touch my hair.. he is that good. Chris is super down the earth and I always enjoy our conversations. Excellent haircut and beard trim. Until now, I've unsuccessfully been trying different barbers to find one who actually cares about cutting hair and the finished product. I've driven by Village Barber a few times and finally stopped in for a haircut and beard trim. I had let it grow long after the last bad beard trim so it could be cut more uniform. The cleanest barbershop I have ever seen. We recently moved to the area and I wanted to find a great barbershop nearby. Luckily, El Segundo seems to have a few and George's is the closest to me. I brought my son here first as a test subject and the barber did a great job on him. I then came by a week later (yesterday) to get myself done. I have no idea if the man was the owner or not, but in both cases there was just the one person cutting hair. There were two other chairs, so not sure. One of the better cuts I'd received in a long time though. Very happy. Easy parking. And fairly priced, so leave a big tip. Cash-only, unfortunately. read more

The only reason I went here is because while they accept appointments, their Yelp page says they also welcome walk-ins. That clearly wasn't the case though when I went in on a Wednesday afternoon. I was told upon entering that they were all booked up for the day and while they offered to schedule me for the next day, there was no way to fit me in. I have been coming here now for about 6 months after moving from the other side of town, but I am taking the time today to write a review. I would like to say that if you are looking for a great haircut at a true "barbershop" then this is the place to come. All the guys in here are friendly and seem to enjoy their work. I stick with Campo as I am a creature of habit and stick with what works, but based on what I see everyone there is a true professional. They work on an appointment system that is super easy right on their website. I would say be respectful of their time, and other customers, and show up on time or early. Otherwise you could mess up others down the line with later appointments. I am happy I found them. Plus I like the music. read more

Maybe it's just the fact that we live in a military town, but I wasn't about to pay that for the same hair cut we'd get for about $12 back home.
