Stopped here for breakfast on a recent trip north. Was rainy and cool so wanted something warm and comforting. Made the mistake of ordering the biscuits and gravy. SO GROSS. This is not regular country gravy. It's made with Italian sausage and is like a weird, brown chicken flavor gravy. It's just so bad. I ate less than half. Fish dishes done simply and perfectly. Recently, enjoyed salads, fish, Bolognese, shrimp-all yummy. I'd encourage the restaurant to experiment with new desserts. I'm sure that there are some local favorites that would be missed but dessert offerings need to be more enticing. Suggest fewer choices that are too tempting to miss. read more

This is a very unique atmosphere. At first it looks like a casual diner kind of plan but when you go in it's the opposite! It's very clean and nice. You are greeted right away. We enjoy the appetizers (coconut prawns are amazing) and their dinner. We are disappointed with the lunch menu. I love a good deli sandwich and this restaurant advertises "home of the standing sandwich". The meat is slimy and seems like it's not freshly cut and has a coating on it (similar to subway in my opinion). Ambitious sounding sandwich with a not appetizing outcome :( we will still go for dinner if we want to spend the money and for the amazing service. read more

We stopped in for breakfast on a Saturday morning. The waiter was friendly and patient with our questions and slow, pre-coffee ability to place an order. Eventually we figured it out, and when he answered all our important hash brown questions, brought us drinks and then breakfast promptly. The food is a very good, traditional breakfast. Everything was cooked well, not too greasy, good quality bacon. We weren't too excited about the breakfast sausage because it was kind of ordinary. On the other hand, the toast came with a slather of especially good salted butter, so there was lots to like. What a find this place was! The Carnation Cafe is several notches above your typical cafe. My wife had the ribs and the serving was so large that she couldn't finish - don't worry, I was there to support her through the end of the meal. I had the Chicken Marsala and couldn't have been more impressed by how flavorful the sauce was and how fresh the side vegetables were. A small town cafe that aspires to be a fancier restaurant. While the food tasted alright, it was a bit pricey for what we got. It took 45 minutes from the time we ordered (there were about 10 people dining at the time). Both of us had cold, dry, rubbery fries on the side of our sandwiches. This was in the Cafe's 3rd week of operation. If they are still around in 2015, I may go back to see if some of the kinks have been worked out of this business. read more

Couldn't go berry picking because of the rain so decided to find a spot to sit and enjoy lunch and found Carnation Cafe. My wife, her friend and our two toddlers went in first and got seated while I sat in the car waiting for our 9 month old to wake up. When I did make my way into the restaurant I sat with my daughter on my lap sure that our server would bring over a high chair eventually. After she came back a couple times we finally asked for a high chair to which we were told they only had three high chairs and they were all in use at another table so too bad. Went to change my daughters diaper and of course no changing station in the men's room. Ordered a ceased salad and choose to add chicken for an additional $4 which apparently means a half dozen small strips of chicken. Ultimately, the food was somewhat mediocre, the service as well, and a lack of high chairs (three TOTAL?!?) as well as no changing station in the men's room makes for a place I will never visit again. read more

I'm a return customer but haven't eaten inside the restaurant for some time. Had breakfast today in their new lounge. The remodel is an awesome! Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Their menu and ordering is fast and easy. We had the option of ordering/paying on the app and choosing to eat indoors or outdoors, or they would take our order the traditional way at the table and bring the bill. Having multiple working systems kept things moving, and I saw several parties come, get immediate seating, eat, and go. The breakfast was huge and delicious (as usual), and they kept my coffee hot and refilled. The staff is always so warm and cordial. A lot of places in the Snoqualmie Valley have unjustifiably high ratings on Yelp, and I think the same applies here. We stopped in for lunch at 11:55 a.m. on a hot Saturday morning. We were given breakfast menus, asked for lunch menus, and were told it would be a five minute wait before the kitchen got set up for lunch. Seems late to begin lunch service, but that didn't slow us down much. Ordered the Cafe Club, and what I was served was not what is listed on the menu. The menu says it includes bacon (duh), cheddar and mayo. The sandwich I received had no bacon; what appeared to be Swiss or some other white cheese; and no mayo. Fries were on the salty side, and wife noted a couple of times that her house chips were too salty. Overall, this food was fine (but not a club sandwich), and pretty fast, but not anything I'd go out of my way for. Service was sketchy too. Aside from being given breakfast menus at about noon, at one point while I was eating the waitress showed up, said nothing, reached across my meal for the ketchup and took it away to another table. I saw a review here noting that they don't have enough high chairs, but not enough ketchup? Weak. read more

The fudge brownie was also top-notch, though incredibly destructive to my dieting desires. I can hardly fault them for that. Have stayed away since the new ownership a couple of years ago revised the menu to be much pricier. Neighbors like the place and wanted to go there for dinner so we decided to give it a try. Wife had Egg Plant Parmesan which she said was just OK. She has had better. I had a half rack of ribs which had the best bbq sauce I've had in a long time and the portion was much bigger than I expected. However, the ribs were unbelievably over done. The outside 1/8-inch to 1/4-inch was charcoal black, way too hard to cut with a knife, crunchy, and way too tough to chew. Had to separate the outer crust from the inner meat which was still very dry. The french fries were pretty good, but the cole slaw was dry and I didn't care for the flavor. I stopped at the place for lunch as I was driving through the sleepy town of Carnation. I was pleasantly suprised at the menu, and quality of food that was offered. the appetizer was great , then we moved on to the main course I had the Taco salad with shredded chicken, there definitely enough chicken in the salad. desert was a chocolate mousse that was to die for. over all the food is pretty pricey for a small town. lunch was $63.00 for 2 people. read more

What a great discovery in the rural Eastside town of Carnation! Stopped for lunch yesterday and had the crispy chicken wrap. It has now set the bar too high for others to reach! As my friend said, "You can taste the love owner/chef Don puts into his food." Don't be fooled by the old BOA building this new restaurant now occupies. This is one of my favorites in Carnation. Breakfast is their specialty. If you are looking for a low carb or keto friendly option, get the "low carber" omelette. They pack this thing with meat and cheese, it's phenomenal. If you aren't low carb, their waffles and salmon eggs Benedict are also very good. read more

First time to eat here. Food was ok but way over priced for what we got. I don't eat pasta or rice so asked if I can substitute a salad for the pasta and the bread. Yes I could but that would be an $1 up charge. The waitresses were nice but their explanation was the vegetables cost more than the pasta. So I won't be coming to this restaurant again. I don't think losing a customer over a salad is worth it. But maybe the chef has a different business plan. read more

This used to be a Bank of America branch, it even still has a working BofA cash machine on the back of the building with a drive through. In many ways, it still looks like a bank from the front, given the very minimal signage outside. You would expect a very modest, homespun greasy spoon from outward appearances. But no, you are in for a surprise. Awesome food, good service, nice interior ambiance, terrible outside signage & building style, virtually no advertising or other publicity for this very good restaurant. If they get the outside of the building looking like a fine dining option and improve their exterior, I would give them five stars. As it is, I'm going to ding them for getting the inside right and the outside completely wrong. The interior is quite nice, it feels like an upscale dining establishment inside. And the fare is far above what you might have expected. This is very close to being a foodie grade restaurant. They have a diverse selection of lunch entrees and and an impressive desert display. You will not be disappointed by the food if you were looking for fine dining rather than a greasy spoon. I would suggest you give them a try for a fine dining experience -- just ignore the exterior and assume you're going to a nice upscale restaurant. This is the sort of place that will earn a good Zaget rating, if they ever find it. :) read more

We've been here on numerous occasions for lunch and dinner and everything has been good. Last night I had the bacon wrapped filet, and it was honestly the best steak I've had in a long time.
