"A quien madruga Dios lo ayuda" (God helps those who rise early). Getting up early, in this case, means being blessed with a great Mexican breakfast. "Desayuno" is served 7-11am with great dishes as Huevos Rancheros, Huevos a la Mexicana, Huevos Nortenos, and Huevos con Frijloles. in other words, eggs however you like them! Almost all entrees are around $6.99 and come with rice or beans, tortillas or bread and a coffee. (Coffee definitely isn't their forte) Overall a fantastic, flavorful breakfast. After breakfast you've got some great lunch and dinner options. Authentic and classic tacos, burritos, and quesadillas as well as the less often seen Sopes and tortas. Spanish helps at the counter, but service is friendly although not always fast. The place itself is not appealing because it is mainly a carniceria(?), a Mexican meat market, but the food we ordered was wonderful. We ordered the grande beef quesadilla and it was really too much for us to eat but it was so delicious that we finished the entire thing. I still am envisioning the wonderful taste. This place is amazing for the street tacos. It is off the beaten path and doubles as a grocery store as well. I wish this were in a more convenient location. That said, there is a large seating area with TVs playing Spanish speaking programming. The taco booth in the back left corner, you can't miss it. What puts this place over the top is the free chips and salsa bar. I made the mistake of ordering 3 tacos, thinking they were your typical sized ones. Turns out they were huge. I had two Asada and one Pastor. Besides my favorite spot in southern California, this is the best pastor I have had. The meat was fairly crispy and the seasoning was bold and had a nice kick. This taqueria is located inside a Hispanic grocery store. My boyfriend happened to find this through Yelp after we were leaving a Yelp elite event. There is plenty of seating as well as a variety of options on their menu. Some items seem a bit pricey while others seem very fair priced. You order up front and your food is brought to your booth. We actually came here twice. Our first experience was a lot better than the second. The first time we came was on a Friday morning and the food was delicious! Our second time was on a Tuesday and the food was average. We were very surprised to see the tacos were made with handmade tortillas. This is a big bonus! Most taco places we have been to use store bought tortillas. My boyfriend loves tripa tacos and he said the first time they were very crispy and flavorful, but the second time they weren't as good. They were not as crispy and they had an organ taste to it. The asada tacos were flavored very well both times. The asada burrito was HUGE and it comes with a lot of toppings like lettuce, tomato, onion, avacado, sour cream, cheese, rice, and beans. You could choose to leave things out if you want. It's very flavorful, but the sour cream was too much for me. The chilaquiles I would not order again. The tortilla was very crispy so it added a nice crunchy texture to the dish, however the salsa was too sour. I'm usually a sour lover but this made my stomach feel very irritated. The tlacoyos are like a sope but it is stuffed with beans. You pick the meat topping you would like. This dish was very good, but the salsa at the top was also too much. It was the same salsa used in the chilaquiles. They have a self serve toppings bar with different types of salsas. The bar also has cucumbers, radishes and limes. The avacado salsa is my favorite! Carniceria Hernandez is a small Hispanic grocery store on the south side of Cumming, Ga., and without the advice of one of my buddies, I would never have known about the jewel of a restaurant that resides in the back of this place. They are turning out the most authentic Mexican dishes out of this little place that you have to see to believe; not to mention, it's on the cheap. For $5 you can round up a steak burrito that puts any burrito that you have ever had to shame (Moe's should be ashamed of themselves). The tacos, tortas, and fajitas all, like the burritos, are out of this world. The service is also unexpectedly good. Honestly, I'm the whitest white boy you've ever seen, but these folks treat this gringo with utmost care. The huge language barrier between the cashier and me always gets comical, and we usually crack each other up, but they could probably just give me a bag of whatever they wanted, and it would still blow my socks off. Once you've enjoyed your down home vittles, make sure to do a tour of the grocery store, and pick up some of their fresh pastries or monstrous pork skins. Their chips are perfectly crispy, crunchy, and the flavor is unbeatable. They only do their free house chips on the weekend (which I recently found out) but they're worth it. The al pastor tacos are flavorful and the meat is succulent. I assume it's from their own meat, since this has a supermarket attached. The quesadillas are also bomb. If you order their enchiladas, you'll probably have some left, as the portion is huge! Seriously, this is a hidden gem, in a tiny strip mall with a coin laundry. To each their own, but to me the low-star reviews here are dead wrong and one in particular is downright obnoxious (I'm looking at you Ann S.). We spent $15.52 on two burritos (asada and chorizo) and each one was HUGE and legit to die for. I'm a pretty big eater and I could only finish the smaller half of mine (asada). The burritos were chock full of the main ingredient (the asada steak was flavorful and had a bit of grill-top crunchiness to it) as well fresh secondary ingredients (pretty sure ours had half an avocado each). Not to mention the ridiculous fresh salsa bar with salsas that will light you up if you didn't purchase a beverage. Before trying it though, understand that this is an authentic MEXICAN SUPERMARKET first and foremost not some place that caters to Americans. My husband is in love with this place! Enjoys the seafood soup, tacos, and yummy breakfasts. Friends of ours told us about this location. They drive from alpharetta during lunch break to eat here! Authentic tacos with cilantro and onions. The meat department on the supermarket side is very clean and organized. We order the fajita meat prepared. They spray some yummy spices on it. Pop that on the grill and it's awesome. We had friends in for the holidays and had lunch there. The pork chop special was great. Staff is very friendly and although we don't speak Spanish (wish we knew how!), they are always helpful and take care of us. :) Great job everybody. We are happy customers! read more

This restaurant deserves a 5 star for food, but I cannot separate out food with the restaurant, so I give it 4 overall, but truly, the food is 5 star in terms of taste. The restaurant is part of a Mexican grocery store that serves authentic Mexican food. One way to know whether a Mexican restaurant is authentic or not is by the people who crowd it( when you see Mexican workers in restaurant and trucks and buses parked in the lot), and if the restaurant has a salsa bar. If there is no salsa bar, it is not an authentic Mexican, period. This restaurant was an accidental discovery for me(even before it had made it to the Yelp) when I was driving past it, and was so hungry that I sneaked in this carneceria expecting to get something to grab. But to my surprise, it not only had enough to offer but was beyond expectation in taste. I use to live in Smyrna and my favorite in that area was "Tacos La Villa". After moving to Cumming, I was always looking for an alternative to Tacos La Villa, since I missed it so much. And in Hernandez, I found that alternative. My personal favorites at this place are the Molcajete, Enchilada Roja(red salsa, but I was told they stopped cooking that now), Tostadas, tacos and of course their spicy, tangy and delicious salsas from the bar. The quantities are ample and prices are unbelievably low. The serving staff is nice and polite, the ladies at the counter are great and talk humbly. Not many people may like the ambiance of the restaurant since it is not so clean, overflowing trash cans, food residues lying on floor etc. But if you truly want to taste the authentic food, this place is great. I will advice the staff to keep the place a bit cleaner. If they do, this is the best place I can suggest in this area for any authentic Mexican food lover. read more
