The service at the meat counter is solid. I purchased ranchera meat, marinated chicken, salsas, and chicharrónes. I purchased quite a bit and my total was about $169 for everything. The asada was not as flavorful as I had hoped especially for something that is about $15.99/lb. That's a premium price and the butcher I normally go to isn't as pricey anymore and he has prime beef and other great quality meats. Do I recommend this place? Maybe if they adjust their pricing but for now I can't. You normally get what you pay for but in this case I feel "jipped". Sad too because I can walk there but I'll just go to my usual spot. read more

Seasoned meat has a good flavor, BUT, their customer service is HORRIBLE! I walked in on Saturday afternoon and was not greeted. I walked to meat counter and the butcher answered with "what do you want!?" No hi how are you or how can I help you?! Then, I go pay at the register, the cashier very nice to customer if front of me but when it came to me no "hi how are you?" Just begin to ring me up... I waited for her to say something welcoming to a customer, like most places but no. She didn't even give me my total I had to ask her?! Really?! I would go to this meat market often but this is the last time I will step foot here or give them my hard earned $. I will go to La Carniceria and Mr Meats where I am always treated with courtesy and is always very welcoming! Even the Carniceria Compadres in Lynwood has way better customer service than this place. Amazing new Carniceria in Downey!!! I was at the nearby McDonald's and decided to stop by and check this place out! Wow wow wow! It's absolutely beautiful inside and has every meat you could ask for! We ordered some carne asada and cooked it up when we got home. I must say it's the best carne asada I have ever tasted! So here's an update... I visited to get cooked food from the kitchen. I'm not sure how it works, but it seems to be different owners, or at minimum different accounting cause you can only buy certain items at the food counter. I ordered 4 tacos - each was $2.50, which is reasonable. 2 Al Pastor, 1 carnitas and 1 pollo. Presentation: excellent. They load you up with all the trimmings, a chile, two of those mexican grilling onions and lots of cilantro/radishes. Flavor: they were good. Not a major standout. I felt the Pastor was too finely chopped and it took away from the texture. Flavor was good. Carnitas were ok, probably the tastiest of the 3 types. The pollo was fine. It was just missing something. The salsas are delicious - I had the green salsa and it was nice and spicy. I'll go back for sure. It's possible it was an off day? I've had the menudo in the last few weeks and I gotta say THAT was outstanding. So hey, it's just starting out as a business, they need time to settle in and improve. I'll give them that. read more

We used to buy their carne asada burritos from the to-go area.... however, we no longer do. I politely asked for 2 small containers of some salsa that usually come with a purchase of tacos, burrito, torta, etc. However I was lectured by a short blonde middle age lady that was ringing me up that if I ever want salsa they sell it in a tub. Which is something I already knew because I've previously have bought it and I'm a frequent buyer here. She proceeded to tell me that they don't usually give it away with the purchase of chicharron. I think it's a little excessive to have been told that when it's not a big deal. Customer satisfaction should always be considered. I did end up getting what I asked for but the way she approached me wasn't necessary. The cook with glasses is always so polite and makes conversation all the time.
