Amazing new Carniceria in Downey!!! I was at the nearby McDonald's and decided to stop by and check this place out! Wow wow wow! It's absolutely beautiful inside and has every meat you could ask for! We ordered some carne asada and cooked it up when we got home. I must say it's the best carne asada I have ever tasted! So here's an update... I visited to get cooked food from the kitchen. I'm not sure how it works, but it seems to be different owners, or at minimum different accounting cause you can only buy certain items at the food counter. I ordered 4 tacos - each was $2.50, which is reasonable. 2 Al Pastor, 1 carnitas and 1 pollo. Presentation: excellent. They load you up with all the trimmings, a chile, two of those mexican grilling onions and lots of cilantro/radishes. Flavor: they were good. Not a major standout. I felt the Pastor was too finely chopped and it took away from the texture. Flavor was good. Carnitas were ok, probably the tastiest of the 3 types. The pollo was fine. It was just missing something. The salsas are delicious - I had the green salsa and it was nice and spicy. I'll go back for sure. It's possible it was an off day? I've had the menudo in the last few weeks and I gotta say THAT was outstanding. So hey, it's just starting out as a business, they need time to settle in and improve. I'll give them that. read more

We love coming here for their milanesa and the marinated chicken. Both are seasoned perfectly and cook up great! We used to buy their carne asada burritos from the to-go area.... however, we no longer do. This is since the last 2 visits - both times - our burritos were filled with hard gristle and my husband, nor I, could finish them. Once could be a fluke, but twice with food, we said no more. Ripped off! I ordered marinated chicken at the meat counter which was priced at $3.49 lb. When I got home, I noticed the label was for Oaxaca cheese at $5.49 lb. I bought 5 pounds, so I paid an extra $10. Looking at other reviews, this practice appears to be common. If you decide to patronize this store, check the scales (make sure they are set to zero prior to weighing) and check the sticker price of what you ordered. If you would rather go around the corner to a good meat market where you don't need to worry about getting ripped off. Go to El Cortez on Florence. I ordered a pound of chicharron, which isn't cheap, I paid close to 20$. I politely asked for 2 small containers of some salsa that usually come with a purchase of tacos, burrito, torta, etc. However I was lectured by a short blonde middle age lady that was ringing me up that if I ever want salsa they sell it in a tub. Which is something I already knew because I've previously have bought it and I'm a frequent buyer here. She proceeded to tell me that they don't usually give it away with the purchase of chicharron. I think it's a little excessive to have been told that when it's not a big deal. Customer satisfaction should always be considered. I did end up getting what I asked for but the way she approached me wasn't necessary. The cook with glasses is always so polite and makes conversation all the time. They did not tare the weight to 0.00 prior to weighing my steak. I am certain many customers have been overpaying all day as well. I am so excited about this place. I used to drive to the original store in Lynwood for their meat, and I'm so glad to have a new spot closer to home. The quality of the meat is simply unmatched. The seasoning on the carne asada preparada and pollo asado are amazing. I've never had asada from any other place that tastes this good. The ceviche is bomb. The tacos are bomb. The store is clean and modern, and it just looks super appealing. This is not your average bodega (nothing wrong with those...but it's cool to see something different).
