i am hesitant to give this place 5 stars because i do not want there to be longer wait times than there are at lunch and dinner. This place is tucked back behind a gas station across from a canal way north on Mchenry ave after Ninos and Gervasonis on the same side of the street. This little place has two entrances and an outside seating area. No inside seating. They offer carnitas, carne asada, pollo asada, etc, and frequently have chicharron both the skin and the meaty type. They also lots of times have roast chicken and tri tip and tacos dorados. They take call ahead phone orders and they take credit/debit/cash. Little shop next door nice place to pick up a beer or two and have a nice conversation with the cashier while waiting for food. I like the #1 which is a pound or so of carnitas served w tortillas rice and beans. This place looks like a hole in the wall but it is my go to lunch spot anytime im on that side of town. I have been a fan of the carnitas in this place specially this the original location. We stopped in and I got carnitas burrito which was great as usual and wife had the carne asada burrito. My wife asked if the super burrito had guacamole and again asked to make sure there was no avocado because she is allergic, the girl in the counter was annoyed and said not it does not have it, but that's normal for places for some reason.. Wife's Burrito was good but it had avocado, I came up since had it for lunch but this is so frustrating and disappointing. You can send someone like my wife to the hospital and it could be fatal when restaurants don't take food allergies seriously. Very disappointing because the food is really good here but this will really make us hesitate to come back and trust their service. I have been wanting to go to this place for years. I have driven by and smelled the smoker and all of the yummy food being cooked inside. As luck has it, we were returning from Ripon California, and I insisted that we stop here for lunch. While we were waiting in line, we spoke with a very friendly customer waiting for his food. He said that they are known for their Carnitas and that he regrets not ordering the nachos so we didn't make the same mistake. I ordered the smoked chicken nachos, and a Carnitas torta . The food was absolutely delicious. You know it is a real deal place because you probably will be the only white person there. Yes there are some flies but they just add to the flavor. Made a stop here on a Monday, the smell of GREAT meats being, cooked, smoked and served were in the air. My carnitas tacos at $2 per on Monday and Tuesday were the deal of the century. This place continues to provide tasty food at great prices. If you're in the neighborhood make sure you stop by. This particular location is my favorite. After looking at the reviews, I was convinced I had to give this place a try for their carnitas. Upon walking in, I was welcomed with the smell of barbecue and instantly knew I was in the right place. The person to take my order was very kind and efficient. I ordered the carnitas plate as well as the chicharrons to go. Although the rice was dry, the carnitas were as good as everyone was hyping it up to be and the salsa + guacamole that came with it hit the spot. The smell was weird, after several bits I realized the carnitas had a distinct smell.. and let me tell you, they smelled like if they were cooked with tripe, and didn't clean the tripe.. so they went to the trash.. just for that I can not stand the smell or eat carnita. First off this is bad review is only because of their customer service. The food is great. Probably the best carnitas in town. So I went in for their $1 Taco tuesday deal. I asked the young man if they still had cuerito, he semi checks and says yes. I then order 5 tacos de carnitas with cuerito. When I go to revive my order I see that none of my tacos had cuerito. I went back in and asked the young man that they forgot to add the cuerito, he then tells me that they are all out. Why tf would you tell me you do at first and then you give me this crap that you're all out? I really do hope this shady shit doesn't become a habit here, because this is one of my favorite spots. read more

We stumbled upon this place passing through Modesto. We got the 4 taco plate (carnitas) with rice and beans, buche taco, and Tri Tip sandwich. The carnitas tacos were delicious - juicy and flavorful, not dry at all! The buche taco was good also. I wish they toasted/warmed up the tortillas a bit, but I'd overlook it for the good flavor in meat. I would definitely pass on the rice and beans. The rice was a little undercooked and it just didn't taste good, along with the beans. But OMG the tri tip sandwich was so good !! The meat was again, juicy with good flavor, and they gave you a decent amount of meat. We would def make the 30 minute drive back here to eat here again!! read more
