Went here because featured on taco chronicals chicago. Some highlights: Homemade tortillas Chicherones Salsas Service Beans We had the 1 lb mixed carnitas. Tasty but not quite temperature hot enough. We ordered an additional 1/2 lb of chopped and was hot. The tacos dorados we good, we had 2 ea. Potato, brain and chorizo potato, best to eat them first, but they were hard as they got cold. If you are not from Chicago the parking is difficult, because parking is on the street; so you have to know the city ordinances in order to know where you can park. Aside from that the restaurant is clean and inviting. The staff there were very helpful in assisting with parking and with explaining their menu. There is not a lot to choose from because, of course, it's mainly carnitas. The pricing is average. The food was great! This is the new branch of the forty year mainstay on 18th Street, now at 55th and California. First the food. You are very limited in your choices, but as with all experts in their craft, do one thing, and do it very well, and they will come. And this place does 'Carnitas'. And you won't get any better. These are the best carnitas you will find! The food is always freshly made. The salsa is made in-house and delicious. The house made tortillas are also a nice addition. The menudo is also very tasty. The staff is friendly and helpful. I've been going to the Pilsen location over 30 years. Sundays are always busy and crowded (but in a good way). The closeness of the Pilsen restaurant gives it a friendly ambiance. This new restaurant has more space but is also very busy on Sunday. The restaurant is bright and has beautiful decor. This new restaurant is quite a bit further for us since we drive from the north side but we do enjoy coming here for the extra space. Parking is also easier at this new location. I mean when you are greeted with Chicharrones as soon as you walk in from the owner, you know you're in line for a great meal here! Four of us stopped in for a late Easter lunch close to 2p. We thought it would've been packed but luckily it was not. We ordered 2 lbs of Carnitas, Nopales and an order of Guacamole. Everything was amazing including the Carnitas (some dark and some white meat) that were juicy and delicious! We ordered some of the "fat" that was tasty as well. The only reason this review gets one less star is because we collectively did not care for the guac. It did not taste fresh as it had a processed taste to it. The ambiance was very cool and hip including the decor in the men's bathroom! I do look forward to heading back in the near future. Parking is fine along 55th or along the side streets. I know this place has been open for a long time on 18th; however, this was a bit of a drive for me and always super packed! So I am super happy they opened a location closer to me! The restaurant itself is very good looking, clean, and traditional. The staff is also super nice and happy to assist you with any concerns/questions you may have. When I went, I ordered to go some carnitas, salsa, tortillas (a little bit of everything) and loved every bit of it. They also gave us (my girlfriend and I) some carnitas samples. Though I understand why its done, I wish the salsa was much spicier. All in all, I would like to revisit and actually sit there to eat. But I also very much look forward to making this my go to carnitas place for those lazy sunday mornings! read more

I have taken 2 trips to Chicago from Lafayette IN just to have these carnitas. My roots are from Michoacán and I feel soooo at home at this restaurant! Truly love this place! Parking is a bit of a problem since there's only street parking... and that's a first come first serve type of thing. But if that's the worst of it I'm good with that.
