    asada burrito
    Kevin L.

[ FOOD ] Grabbed an asada burrito and al pastor taco. I can't say it's the best but it was surprisingly pretty good. The burrito is not the biggest but it was pretty tasty. It would be better if they added some pineapple pieces to the al pastor taco. The meats are well seasoned and they crisp up the tortillas. [ SERVICE ] Good service, just order, sit down, and they will serve you your food. [ PLACE ] The restaurant has very home-y mom and pop vibes with random liquor store items for sale in addition to a few tables to dine in. It's kind of in a random spot because the entire block is just a bunch of houses so I can't imagine the restaurant would get very busy. [ VERDICT ] I would definitely come back. The food is good and it's a convenient spot for some mexican food after shopping at 88 Marketplace. They should really put prices up tho on their menu.

The food itself was good. No complaints with that. Everything was fresh. The meat in the tacos were tender. I wish I tried this place pre-Covid. Despite a clear sign to wear a mask, there was a gentleman that walks in with his shirt pulled up as his mask completely ignoring the sign at the front entrance. The gentleman was in the restaurant for at least 5 minutes and the workers didn't say anything until I pointed him out. What's the point of having your signs if you're not going to enforce your rules? Safety isn't a priority for the customers here, just their workers. Even as I'm literally writing this review, another gentleman walks in doing the same thing. The workers don't say anything to this time despite standing inches away from the counter. They only spoke up before because I said something. This place is a complete joke. I don't care how good your food is. It all means nothing if safety isn't a priority and taken seriously. What a complete mess!

Al pastor taco, carne asada burrito, & large horchata!
    Francis R.

Kinda disappointing to be honest... Y'all bamboozled me with the 4.5 star rating. By no means was the food terrible, but I've for sure had better. Anyways, we were in the area doing some shopping when we decide to hang around the area to grab Mexican food for lunch. A quick Yelp review and boom something cheap and nearby... Mary's Taqueria! Definitely a hole in the wall sort of spot. Kinda looks like someone's house converted into part mini convenience store and part taqueria. No problem finding free street parking nearby. Huge sign from the front and being located on the corner of the intersection makes this an easy spot to find. Once in, you make your way to the back to order to go if you like or you can take a seat and a waitress will bring you menus. I ended up ordering a carne asada burrito, an al pastor taco, and a large horchata. Initially, when the food came out it definitely looked legit. But taste-wise, I've definitely had better. First ate the al pastor taco, which I found to be overly greasy. Next moved onto the asada burrito. While it does look big in size, it's mostly filled with lettuce which gives it it's deceiving size. The carne asada itself was kind meh, and definitely over board on the cheese & sour cream. Horchata was solid and I also did enjoy their green and red salsa which were in these easy squeeze bottles. No issues dousing eat bite with more and more salsa. Bring cash if you want to avoid the $1 fee on credit and debit charges. This is on of those spots where I can't complain the food is horrible but definitely not a spot I'd bother to come back for. 'Til next time! 85/365

Fish taco: delicious and crispy Al pastor taco: Best al pastor I've had in a long time! Chicken taco: meh very average

Whoa! Talk about a hidden gem! Just get Al pastor ANYTHING and FISH TACOS. Enough said. They warm the corn tortillas for the tacos and the bread for the torta is fluffy and soft, yet crispy on the outside. SUPER NOM. Horchata is decent, not too sweet. Sad face that they charge for salsa and chips, but make sure to ask for the sauces when your food arrives! I asked for "hot sauce" and they brought me the red and green squirt bottles :). We also opted for cheese fries instead too :) Drooling thinking about them tacos again... will be back!!

We stood at the door for about 20 minutes before someone finally told us the wait would be 1-2 hours. Keep in mind, the place is pretty small and already crowded, so there's barely any room to stand while you wait. After getting on the waitlist, we decided to go to a nearby spot for food--but not even 5 minutes later, we got called back saying our table was ready. When we returned, we were seated along the wall in a very tight space--so tight that if I stretched my arm out, I would've hit the person next to me. We noticed a large table nearby had been sitting for a while without food. When their food finally came out, it made us realize our wait would probably be even longer. After another 20 minutes passed and we still hadn't been able to order, we decided to leave. I'm not sure the space is fully ready for the rush right now--it feels overcrowded and service is slow. I'll give it another try once the hype dies down. I'm happy for their success, though--just be prepared to be patient when you go.

Starting with margaritas (because obviously ‍), queso and chips that were dangerously good, and the chicken empanadas that came out perfectly crispy with so much flavor. We kept looking at each other after every bite like "okay wait... THIS is the best thing here" and then another plate would arrive and prove us wrong again The carnitas fried rice??? I genuinely cannot stop thinking about it. So savory, flavorful, comforting, and packed with crispy carnitas on top with the eggs and pickled onions... literally unreal. And then the skirt steak tacos absolutely stole the show. The steak was cooked perfectly, packed with flavor, and paired so perfectly with all the toppings and sauces. Every single bite tasted fresh and homemade in the best way possible. And can we talk about the ambience for a second because WOW. The music, the energy, the vibe inside, everyone celebrating, the drinks flowing -- it felt like the perfect Cinco de Mayo dinner spot. The service was also AMAZING from start to finish and made the entire experience even better. The atmosphere is easily for dates, friend outings, after work outings etc. The restaurant decor is nice. It puts you in the mind of a European garden. There is no parking but a garage across the street along with metered Street parking. Beware parking cost $46 for about 2.5 hrs. The food bill was $141, way too expensive for tacos and a few margaritas. I will pass on this place.

Appetizers were quac and chips, and shrimp ceviche. The guac was really good, but the ceviche was the star. Entrees were steak and shrimp for me, and Tampiquena for my friend. In both dishes, the steak was done to perfection. The sauce that came with my shrimp was spicy and deep--lots of flavor layers there. Both of us took home portions of our meals because there was a lot of food on the plates. Finally, the service--the servers are attentive without hovering. If we needed something, they were there, but never intrusive. It is hard to believe this is a little neighborhood spot, given the service and the quality of the food. It was not too busy tonight--we ate early--but I recommend reservations.
