I have only had the pleasure to dine here one time but I cannot wait to go back! Beautiful setting, wonderful history you'll have to go there and ask yourself, and the food was varied and very well prepared. Our table of 10 I believe had almost one of everything and everybody enjoyed their meal, I think my favorite was the coleslaw but I really love coleslaw and it went perfectly with my trout. They only accept cash or checks so make sure you're prepared. This is obviously a picture of a hydrangea, I could not find my picture of the inside or the food or the beautiful porch overlooking a wonderful stream but just imagine this flower next to the stream and then you go eat a delicious meal ha ha

This is what I would call a time-capsule restaurant and we really enjoyed our experience. The entire visit was like I imagine life in the 1950s might have been ... right down to no credit cards (cash or check only). The food is probably like it was prepared back then too. Old-fashioned and very tasty. Everyone in our group enjoyed their selections. The staff were delightful and attentive. Everything was handled like clockwork. The setting is beautiful and I loved the creek and covered bridge. Don't go here if you are looking for modern-day recipes and options. That's not what Caro-Mi is about. Rather, go here to experience life the way it once was. With the right mindset you will have a great time. With the wrong mindset, you will be unhappy. Bottom line -- I would not go here frequently but I would certainly return on a day when I want something distinctive and different.

We were headed to the Greenville Spartanburg airport afterwards, when we decided to stop somewhere and eat on the way. We had plenty of time, since we were going to be at the airport about 6 hours early due to a brunch being cancelled in Weaverville due to an accident involving another family member. The first sign we saw that interested us was for two places in Saluda, North Carolina. We decided to exit and take a chance. It was a good choice. After a short 1.5 mile drive in the beautiful countryside, we arrived in the tiny village of Saluda. It was really a quaint and scenic place. We drove past our restaurant choice, but saw no parking. We kept following signs to a parking lot, but suddenly the road we needed to turn on was closed for construction. I kept going to find a place to make a u-turn, when we suddenly saw Green River BBQ and pulled right into the parking lot. We opted to eat inside. At first we, being from San Antonio, were concerned that the dining room wasn't airconditioned. Believe me, it didn't need it! A very friendly server named Joey came to us right away, seated us, and took drink orders. When he brought our drinks we ordered our meals. My wife had a sliced brisket sandwich with fries and coleslaw. I ordered the BBQ Melt (Smoked pork on a king's Hawaiian bun with melted cheddar cheese & Duke's mayonnaise & smothered with caramelized onions.) Without knowing what it was, I substituted tomato pie for my fries. The food was all excellent. My sandwich was so big and loaded with pork that I couldn't eat the last fourth of it. I didn't want to be stuffed on a flying day. The pork was better than any pork I have been served in Texas. They really know how to cook it in the Carolinas. The coleslaw was rich and creamy. I really liked it. The tomato pie is a hard one to describe. The best I can do is to say that it is like the squash casserole we get in Texas, but replace the squash with fresh tomatoes. It was cheesy, gooey, and had a super great tomato taste. The service here was great. I watched as about 6 staffers were setting up for a big family group that came in after us. They worked like a finely orchestrated marching band. All I can say is this: Skip all those other chains that are along Interstate 26 and go to Green River BBQ!

As locals, we've eaten at a lot of restaurants around Haywood County, and this one stands out for both the food and the atmosphere. Everything we ordered was fresh, full of flavor, and cooked exactly right. The menu has something for everyone, whether you're stopping in for lunch, dinner, or just drinks with friends. The staff was welcoming, attentive, and made us feel right at home without being overbearing. The restaurant has a comfortable pub atmosphere that fits perfectly with downtown Waynesville. If you're searching for one of the best restaurants in Waynesville or a great local pub in Haywood County, The Scotsman Public House deserves a spot on your list. We'll definitely be back.
